(Guitar Debauchery at its finest.)
『To say Greg is wacky is an understatement, I'm pretty sure he's completely insane and is indeed "a beast of the night, if you will..."

Always entertaining and helpful, Greg packs a lot of information in this 1hr 12 minutes of skullduggery.

Greg works though 6 of his tunes (Zoinks, Spank It, Torn Asunder, Death Of A Bassman, Tonus Diabolicus and Chief's Blues) and within the context of these tunes covers topics as varied as; Fun with a B Bender, Chicken&Hybrid Picking, Behind the Nut shenanigans, The blues (how to play them and avoid giving them) and so on.

Each group of techniques he discusses is demonstrated in a band setting then it's close up intimate time with Greg as he walks you slowly through the licks, sometimes even showing you extensions or other options for licks he played in the band setting.

While this is definitely not a beginners video, for intermediate to advanced players there so much to work with here, learn the tune or just pick up some cool licks here and there, it's up to you. All in all, the greasy guitar gristle Greg dishes out is well worth the look and listen.

Guitar Debauchery at its finest!

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Hang on, why not 5? Has nothing whatsoever to do with Greg. The DVD seems poorly authored, at the end of two of the sections the menu system fails to return you to the songs menu which I find odd since it works for other selections. More annoyingly however is that sometimes it is hard to make out what Greg says if he's not talking directly into the lav mic. The difference in levels is so astounding that you have to ask yourself if the mix engineer has ever heard of compression. Nit picking for an instructional DVD I know, but still.』

(Very entertaining instructor)
『I'm a big fan of Greg Koch. He's very amusing (if a little over the top) and a terrific guitar player. I got this DVD to learn more about chicken pickin' and hybrid picking. He's goes through some very cool riffs at normal speed and slower, and also plays the longer song with his band. My only complaint is that there is no notation or tab included. Sometimes it takes (at least me) a really long time to figure out the notes he's playing because you have to watch the fingers, remember what he did, and then try it yourself. Definitely for intermediate players.』

(Very cool instructer)
『I really liked this dvd. I have followed Greg's column in GuitarOne for some time that basically motivated me to purchase this dvd. Greg plays some tunes from his cd and then breaks it all down and shows you how to do his licks. He covers most styles of playing you will learn some cool tricks from his lessons.』

(advanced level instruction)
『This entertaining DVD by Greg Koch shows a man with great chops instructing how to play some of his (mostly) intricate, varied in style, original songs. he plays each song with his band and then shows how he gets some of his licks and sounds. You'd want to be a damn good player to watch this and then be able to do what he does. For me, a pretty average amateur player, there's not much that is going to help improve my playing, but there are some techniques worth a try. But the man is funny and he sure can play.
colin Freeman -Australia』

(Taking guitar lessons to a new level)
『This is a great DVD. The guitar style spectrum is covered here with country, blues, and rock, with tips and tricks to enhance your own style. Greg uses Fender Strats and Telecasters (my favorite guitars) throughout the video and explains and demonstrates his unique style in a way that you can pick up on with a little practice and not be totally discouraged. This DVD is filled with humor, great teaching and superb pointers for expanding your technique. If you are a fan of Greg Koch or would want to make your playing really stand out, you need this video.』

The Hong Kong auteur's second film after the more conventionally narrated As Tears Go By, Days of Being Wild gave world cinema its first glimpse of what would become Wong Kar Wai's signature: elliptical storytelling, existential brooding, breathtaking cinematography and art direction, haunting score, all-star cast, and that heartbreaking air of lingering and longing. But my son (2-1`/2) absolutely loves him, so that is what really matters. I try to limit television/video time and a one or two 1/2 hour breaks during the day and this is a good DVD for those times - you usually cannot go wrong with CTW.』

(A walk through the woods...)
『This is the harrowing tale of three people walking through the woods. I'm not kidding, thats it. I suppose if I was to get more detailed in my description its actually the harrowing tale of a fat guy with a bag over his head that abducts two tattooed barflys and then they all walk through the woods. At one point they stop and the fat guy takes a dump. Then they all drink some whiskey and they are back on their way. Walking through the woods...』
『The Devil of Blue Mountain takes you on a harrowing journey, following a disturbing abductor as he drags two attractive young women through a twisted wilderness. Ultimately, the abductor's salacious purpose is dark and nefarious. From its opening scenes, literally shot in the downpour of Hurricane Ivan, to its shocking conclusion in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, its gritty realism is always unsettling, yet strangely enchanting. Produced and directed by Hollywood.com's Top Underground Filmmaker of 1998, Joshua P. Warren (Inbred Rednecks, Alone in a Haunted House).』

(Vivacious drum rhythms workout-drill-dance)
『Come to think of it, there are many instructional videos in this sub genre. There's The Heartbeat of Belly Dance from the same producers, World Dance New York, there's Sonia and Issam's Art of the Drum Solo, the rhythms video by Saida with Mario Kirlis, and probably a few more I haven't bought. Each one brings its own format and combinations, style, and instruction type.

In this video, Neon, Raquy and Liron Peled bring vivacity and verve to drum solo technique. The format, specially if you go by the menu, looks very simple. But that doesn't mean it isn't thoroughly conceptualized. Neon, who looks like a piece of bottled sunlight, explains the entire concept of this instructional program (choreographed by her) in her five-minute welcome. She views it as a fitness program as well as a belly dance one. As she introduces the video, she stands in what I call her Andy Troy (fitness expert) pose. You can see the intro in the preview clip, so I won't get over-descriptive here. It's not an aerobic program, but it is very active (especially in the second segment of sharply percussive moves) and involves much muscle work. It is not about floating around leisurely - so you may well sweat and get washed out. Or head for a Mars bar, like I tend to do.

It seems that there are many "multi-level" videos being turned out of late, and this is another in that category. Half of it is for beginners, and another half for intermediate dancers. I'm beginning to like this format a lot because as intermediate dancers can easily use the beginner's segment to drill, sharpen moves, work on finer points like transitions, turning, changing angles, balance etc. And as a beginner, you have something to gradually work up to.
So... first, drummers Raquy Danziger (dumbek) and Liron Peled (base drum) take you through the rhythms featured here - just the most popular ones - chiftitelli, beledi, saiidi, maksoum and masmoudi. The famous Raquy has a very nice way of explaining them here - she breaks them up into "low" and "high". That also corresponds to the movements you can make, so it works very well. Neon later uses the high and low cues when working with each rhythm. There are no backgrounders on the rhythms and their cultural significance, etc. Just brief, practical, effective primers.
And then come the 40 drum solo combinations in two dance flows.

As has become almost standard with World Dance videos, there's a separate tutorial section which you can choose to do or not do. I choose to do because although I "know" the moves, they need both smoothness and sharpness. And speed. For those familiar with Neon's work, each combination is explained in total Neon style. For those who don't know Neon... she explains fully and demonstrates clearly. Explaining basic moves is her thing.

The combinations are short and easy for the beginner flow, Flow 1. You hear the rhythm and vocal cues through many repetitions (12) and that helps get the rhythm, both main beat and riffs, into your head. If none of this is news to you, use the music-only option to go through the 20 combinations as a workout or drill. It makes a great drill, in fact! If you're an advancing dancer, use the music-only part to start making variations as the drum pattern is repeated. I find this part very useful, in fact!

The intermediate combinations move faster and are obviously more complex. They're still not long though. This iothncreases their drill-worthiness. If you've been dancing already, try both flows consecutively for a longer drill.

The obligatory performance on this video is missing. But for this price, it's a giveaway. Everyone on the DVD looks as if they're having fun. I think learners will too!

『The Bellydance Rhythms Workout is a blend of dance fitness and dance instruction. It offers two non-stop 40-minute movement flows - the workouts - and two tutorial sections, beginner and intermediate. In the movement flows Neon provides a full body workout that s great for toning and weight loss, and for enhancing your natural grace and flexibility.

Each workout flow features a wide variety of classic bellydance moves assembled into 20 beginner and 20 intermediate bellydance drum solo combinations. Each combination is repeated as a drill: Beginner - slowly 12 times and at a real dance tempo 8 times; Intermediate - slowly 8 times and at a real dance tempo 12 times. You will review each rhythm section and the entire 20-combination sequence in a way that creates an experience very close to actually performing them in a dance show. Each beginner combination is built gradually, during the slow repetitions set.

The beginner tutorial section presents a detailed breakdown of basic bellydance techniques. Neon introduces each move step-by-step and places each one in the context of a dance combination, so that from the very beginning you learn how to combine dance steps and how combinations express rhythms.

The intermediate tutorial section explains the structure of each combination and offers tips on performance and styling.

The movement flows are accompanied by live drumming and are set to the most popular bellydance rhythms with 4 variations for each rhythm: ciftetelli, baladi, saidi, maksoum, and masmoudi. The live drumming includes a bass doumbek to make it easier for beginners to hear the structure of each dance rhythm. Drum rhythms underlie most types of bellydance music, so hearing them is key to developing your musicality as a dancer. In a special section Raquy teaches the structure of each bellydance rhythm and how to recognize it in bellydance music.

Each movement flow can be played with Neon s voice cues, or with music only.』

(A boring film in October)
『I admit I was swayed to purchase this DVD by the good reviews it received on Amazon. I like films about WWII; I like DB Sweeny; and the plight of Danish Jews sounded compelling. But the film is a 'dud' and sad to say in particular because DB Sweeny just isn't very good here.

The story of the Danish Jews escaping to Sweden just before they were to be sent to concentration camps by the Nazi's, should hold anyone's interest, but the effort by the filmaker to make an engaging movie just falls flat. Scenes go on too long with no forward movment of the story and I just couldn't find anything that likeable about the characters. So don't be fooled by the reviews; this movie isn't terrible--just 'dull' in its presentation and really not worth your time.』

(....gripping)
『It's been awhile since I have seen this film but I remember that it was well done.』

(Another great Holocaust story.)
『I always hesitate to say too much about these movies as it takes away all the elements of surprise.

I very much enjoyed this movie. It shows how people help people and what we are able to do when we have to.

I hope by remembering where we were we will never go there again.

A must see for Holocaust survival lovers.』

(The Scandinavian Miracle at Midnight)
『One of the most remarkable feats of World War II happened in Denmark. After about three years of believing they could live in peace with the Germans, the Jews were finally scheduled to be shipped to the death camps. Fortunately, a trusted Dane working in the German's Command learned of the plan a day or two before it was to happen, so he secretly warned the Jews. Within a matter of hours, the Danish Resistance help get some 7,200 Jews on boats and taken to Sweden. Being neutral, Sweden willingly took in these Jewish refugees. Fewer than four hundred did not escape, but were shipped out of Denmark to the camps. This is the compelling, true story of one family in that 'miracle at midnight.' The Disney movie of that name is a similar story, which chronicles another family experience during that same incident.

There is so much to discuss in this movie that parents will just want to watch it with their kids to decide what would be important to their family. There is very little bad language, or anything objectionable to traditional values families in this movie. It is one you will not soon forget. Oh, one more thing: When the Jews were finally able to return to Denmark after the war, they found their businesses had been kept going, their homes maintained, and even their gardens attended by the Danes!』

(Great Movie)
『This is an excellent movie, and I also think it was one of the best World War 2 movies I have ever seen. Seeing people being courageous in the face of fear in real life is one of the most powerful things I think any movie could be about. The relationships formed were very touching as well. I will recommend this to any and all I see, and as proof of how good I think it is, I have never desired to write a review of any movie before this one.』
『This compelling suspense drama follows the underground war-time evacuation of the Jews from Nazi-occupied Denmark to neutral Sweden. The Jewish Kublitz family lives quietly and comfortably in Copenhagen until a wounded Gentile resistance fighter, Niels (D.B. Sweeney), is saved from death by young Sarah Kublitz (Kelly Wood) who gives him shelter in the Kublitz home. Sarah and Niels fall in love as the Resistance learns of the Nazis plan to arrest Jews. Sarah's father, who works as a bookkeeper in a Nazi arms factory, must face some tough moral choices - including whether to sabotage the factory in which he works. A DAY IN OCTOBER, by the Academy Award winning producers of BABETTE'S FEAST, presents with distinction the true story of a nation that had the courage to stand up against the enemy.』

(I enjoyed it!)
『I'm actually a humongous fan of Marvel Comics Fantastic Four. From owning a large collection of the comic books to toy hunting for the hard-to-get Invisible Woman action figures.

But I kept myself away from any coverage, hype regarding the film, so I can enjoy it to the nth degree.

I have to admit that I felt a bit cautious because although the Fantastic Four have been a staple of Marvel Comics history, it's not the in your face action such as X-Men and even Spider-Man.
It's one of those series that has to grow on you and you learn to enjoy the characters.

So, I imagined that like the first X-Men movie where they had to go through an introduction, the same would have to be done with the first Fantastic Four movie.

Sure, there will be a lot of action but at the same time, you need to know how the characters are.

Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) is not your typical lead man. He's highly intelligent, detached from society somewhat and can be a cold fish.

Johnny Storm (Human Torch) is the hothead. Playboy and always seems to get himself into something dangerous.

Ben Grimm, the man who deals with being the rocky behemoth known as the Thing.
And Sue Storm, the woman who loves Reed but somehow tries to find ways to get close to him (despite him being a cold and dull fish at times).

So, needless to say...our heroes have their problems and for some who are looking for the charismatic action hero, they are superheroes but they aren't perfect.

I happened to enjoy the film. The pacing was a bit off at times but nevertheless, I enjoyed it and optomistic that the second movie can now be fast-paced and hard hitting.

The DVD for Fantastic Four was very enjoyable with really cool. The DVD is offered in two versions (widescreen and fullscreen) and audio quality is offered in 5.1 DTS (which sounds really awesome on my home theater).

The special features for this DVD doesn't disappoint either as it feature full length audio commentary by the stars of the film, a video diary featuring the stars on their media tour for the film - which was very exciting by the way. Deleted scenes, making of featurette, casting session, making a scene, music videos, theatrical teaser and trailer and also an inside look for the third X-Men film (which unusually got the top listing for the special features).

Not everyone is going to enjoy the Fantastic Four film. Even the comic book is not for everyone but those who stick with it learn to enjoy the characters for what they are.

If I had any problem, many of us who are faithful to FF, knows that Dr. Doom doesn't go down that easily. Otherwise Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis and Julian McMahon do a great job portraying the characters.

Again, this is just the introductory film. Hopefully with the second film, things get even better. As for the DVD, it's fantastic.』

(Pretty Good.)
『Good Movie. Chickless is great as the Thing. AND Jessica is always easy on the Eyes.』

(Soulless and generic superhero romp)
『Of all the superhero movie adaptations released in the last several years, there is one in particular that stands out to me simply because it is so unremarkable. That film is 2005's adaptation of "The Fantastic 4." The characters are one dimensional, and the plot is paper thin. I can sum it up as this: 5 scientists go into space and come back with super powers. Four of them decide to become superheroes, and one decides to become a super villain. And then, they fight. That's it. It doesn't even attempt to understand why four people, upon receiving these powers decide they should be super heroes. They do it because that's what people with super powers do, and of course they have a closet full of pre-made superhero costumes that were conveniently written into the plot as being "next generation astronaut suits." Yeah, ruddy brilliant guys.

There is a sub plot in there about Ben Grim being unhappy with his monstrous new appearance as "The Thing," but the way the writers chose to resolve it ultimately feels ridiculous. Also, Dr. Doom, who is one of the most prolific recurring villains in the entire Marvel universe, is completely neutered in this movie. Comparing this Dr. Doom to his comic book counterpart is like comparing Chad Vader to his big brother Darth. The movie was obviously made in a boardroom of Fox executives trying to figure out how to get as many teenage boys into the theater as possible, because it is also chock full of frivilous extreme sports footage, special effects shots, and meticulously airbrushed women.

The only good thing I can say about this movie was that it looked good on Blu-Ray, at a time when I barely had anything to watch in HD. If you're looking for a movie to demo your new home theater with though, there are dozens of movies that look just as good if not better in HD, that aren't textbook examples of what happens when movies get made in by business men.』

(SOLID ONE STAR!)
『Interesting special effects. Tolerable to watch but certainly NOT a good movie. The sequel in one of the worst movies I have seen this year. Please end this franchise.』

(It's Clobbering Time !)
『"Fantastic Four" hit the big screens in 2005, and is based on the Marvel comic book.

Reed Richards is, quite possibly, the most gifted scientist to ever have graduated from MIT. Currently researching the human genome, he believes the evolutionary process on Earth may have been triggered a cosmic storm. Luckily, precisely the type of cloud Richards has factored into his work will soon pass close to Earth's orbit. However, to continue his work, he needs help - specifically financial aid and a trip into space. Together with his sidekick, astronaut Ben Grimm, Richards pays a visit to Dr. Victor von Doom - not only an ex-classmate, but also a well-heeled native of Latveria. Where Richards is struggling financially, things are going a little better for von Doom - he is now the head of his own business and has his own very well-shielded space station.

Von Doom agrees to fund the experiment and grants the pair access to the space station - however, the deal is not without its conditions. Victor will take the lion's share of any future profits and his Director of Genetic Research, Susan Storm will also be brought on-board. (Ms. Storm also happens to be Reed's ex-girlfriend, though exactly what she ever saw in him is never made clear). Ben had hoped to pilot the shuttle to the space station. Unfortunately, Sue's brother, Johnny, is the company's resident pilot and will be commanding the flight. (Johnny is something of a loose cannon who was thrown out of NASA).

The five travel to the space station together - only to be caught out by the cosmic storm, which arrives ahead of schedule. Ben takes the biggest hit the storm can offer, having been on a spacewalk at the time. Reed, Susan and Johnny were inside, though they had been trying to rescue Ben and weren't protected by the station's strongest shielding. Victor, like a true villain, made sure that he was in the safest part of the station. All five survive - though Reed seems to have been right about the storm's effect on the evolutionary process. Everyone on-board develops new abilities - Reed becomes able to bend and stretch like rubber, Susan can become invisible while Johnny can become a human of living fire, rather than flesh and blood. However, all three can switch their powers on and off and there's no change to their outward appearance. Ben, on the other hand, can't : he has evolved into a creature made of rock. Despite the superhuman strength, it's not something he's terribly pleased about. (Neither is his fiancée - who doesn't take long in returning the ring). However, there are bigger problems ahead - specifically Doom and his newly acquired powers.

I found the movie pretty ordinary overall - there wasn't much of a storyline beyond 'this is how we got our powers'. (The point of the film, I'm guessing, was solely to set things up for the planned sequels). I can't say I was too fond of either Reed (limp, dreary and let's face it : he has the world's worst super-power) or Johnny (irritating brat). If it had been the Fantastic Two, I'd have been cheering for Doctor Doom - Julian McMahon does a pretty good job with that role. However, Ben Grimm proves to be a likeable character and - since there's a shot of Jessica Alba in her underwear - I'll give the film my unreserved recommendation.』

『Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis head a sexy, star-powered cast in this explosive adventure about a quartet of flawed, ordinary human beings who suddenly find themselves with extraordinary abilities.

After exposure to cosmic radiation, four astronauts become the most remarkable, if dysfunctional, superheroes of all time. Unfortunately, the mission's sponsor has also been transformed ? into the world's most lethal supervillain ? setting the stage for a confrontation of epic proportions. Packed with nonstop action, big laughs and awesome special effects, Fantastic 4 is "powerful fun" (The Baltimore Sun) from start to finish!』
『Marvel Comics' first family of superherodom, the Fantastic Four, hits the big screen in a light-hearted and funny adventure. It begins when down-on-his-luck genius Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd,Horatio Hornblower) has to enlist the financial and intellectual help from former schoolmate and rival Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahon,Nip/Tuck) in order to pursue outer-space research into human DNA. Also on the trip are Reed's best friend, Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis,The Shield); his former lover, Sue Storm (Jessica Alba,Dark Angel,Sin City), who's now Doom's employee and love interest; and her hotshot-pilot brother, Johnny Storm (Chris Evans,Cellular). Things don't go as planned, of course, and the quartet becomes blessed--or is it cursed?--with superhuman powers: flexibility, brute strength, invisibility and projecting force fields, and bursting into flame. Meanwhile, Doom himself is undergoing a transformation.

Among the many entries in the comic-book-movie frenzy,Fantastic Fouris refreshing because it doesn't take itself too seriously. Characterization isn't too deep, and the action is a bit sparse until the final reel (like most "first" superhero movies, it has to go through the "how did we get these powers and what we will do with them" churn). But it's a good-looking cast, and original comic-book cocreator Stan Lee makes his most significant Marvel-movie cameo yet, in a speaking role as the FF's steadfast postal carrier, Willie Lumpkin. Newcomers to superhero movies might find the idea of a family with flexibility, strength, invisibility, and force fields a retread ofThe Incredibles, but Pixar's animated film was very much a tribute to the FF and other heroes of the last 40 years. The irony is that whileFantastic Fouris an enjoyable B-grade movie, it's the tribute,The Incredibles, that turned out to be a film for the ages.--David Horiuchi

On the DVD
The principal extra on the DVD is a spirited commentary track by Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, and Ioan Gruffud. Self-avowed FF fan Chiklis explains why the Thing doesn't have a craggy brow, Alba recalls which things were "cool," and they talk about looking forward to the sequel. There are three short deleted scenes (including a goofy Wolverine reference), 20 minutes of barely watchable hand-held video footage from the press tour, music videos, and some short featurettes including an appearance by FF creator Stan Lee.--David Horiuchi
