『Arrived quickly and appears in good shape. It is a Christmas gift and I haven't played it.』

(Good, stupid action)
『I love this movie for what it tries to do, which is be a good action movie. It doesn't try to be anything it's not (at least I don't think so). It's so over-the-top with everything, explosions, stupid laughs, and its characters. Pretty much what I want from my dumb action movies.』

(The Fifth Element DVD)
『This was a movied I had wanted for a very long time and got it at a great price with very reasonable shipping costs. Thanks guys!!』

(Luc Besson has made so many great films - choose one of those instead)
『300 years into the future, aliens bring the Fifth Element, Leeloo (Milla Jovovich), to Earth, a supreme being capable of saving humanity from destruction. However, when the aliens are killed, it is up to soldier-turned-cab driver Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) to help Leeloo and to protect her from those intent on killing her and bringing about the apocalypse.

It is hard for me to believe that Luc Besson, the man who wrote and directed "Leon - the Professional", one of the best movies that I have ever seen, is also responsible for this uneven, clichéd action movie that never quite decides whether it wants to be a comedy or not. It's not that "The Fifth Element" is a terrible film (I would describe it as mediocre, rather than terrible), it's just that with so much talent involved in the making of this film, it should have been much better. Sure, the special effects are incredible (even more than a decade after the film was made), the action sequences are pretty good (but not fantastic), and some of the jokes are funny, but the film is let down by just about everything else.

Leeloo has no personality at all and I question the message that Besson is trying to send through her character. Early in the film it is set-up that Korben Dallas is looking for the "perfect woman", whom he finds in Leeloo. Except "perfect" as defined by this film is a woman who looks pretty but who can't speak English (or can't speak it well), so is more or less incapable of conversation, who speaks like a child and acts like one too, and who needs to be protected (even though she is capable of punching her way out of an "unbreakable" glass case). Furthermore, the overall message of the film, that "war is bad", although something that I agree with, has been used far too many times and feels tacked on at the end. The villain, played by Gary Oldman, dies far too easily, so viewers are cheated of a decent showdown; and no film has ever been improved by the inclusion of Chris Tucker. In this film, Tucker, with his irritating helium voice, seems completely superfluous, so I wonder why his character was included at all.

Luc Besson has written/written and directed so many great films, including "Leon - the Professional", "Nikita", and "Taxi" (the French version, not the American remake). Watch one of those instead, you'll prefer it.

(My First Blu-ray - Thoughts from a former HD DVD person)
『This is my first Blu-Ray, and while my expectations were somewhat high, especially since I'm a former HD DVD exclusive consumer, they were completely met by this presentation. Granted, I'm already a big fan of this movie, which I consider to potentially be one of my favorites. Despite that, I had heard of the issues with the first round of this movie and I'm pleasantly reporting that the "Remastered" version is as pristine as you could hope for in a late 1990s movie transfered to Blu-ray. Playback was via a brand new Playstation 3 using HDMI 1.3 with deep color and displayed on a Samsung 52" 65F series LCD HDTV.

The sound was high quality and cinema-like on a simple Denon system using the disc's 48khz/16bit 5.1 PCM sound via a Toslink optical audio cable. The early ledge scene was particularly pleasant. It was at that point that I knew this would be one awesome ride.

Like many of you, I was lured by the incredible price cuts that Toshiba made during the pre-2007 Christmas season on HD DVD hardware. No regrets, since the movies I purchased are all of excellent quality with the hardware to match. It's just a shame that some sort of unified standard or dual-format standard could not have been agreed upon. I think the HDM market was really hurt by this.

The death of HD DVD early this year left me with a huge selection of clearance HD DVDs, but that only lasted a couple of months. If you're like me, you were spoiled with HD and could not look back. The void had to be filled and I was too bitter to jump onto Blu-ray. One day while browsing my reactivated Live account, I stumbled upon high def downloads via Live. This is what kept me going throughout summer and satisfied my HD desires. They're mostly 720p, but are very high quality and playback begins within moments on my cable internet connection. The HD TV show selection is fantastic, and you get to keep them forever! I highly recommend the Live service! You don't even need to pay for "Gold" access, the "Silver" membership is free and provides you with the ability to purchase and download all the HD content. I'm also accessing HD content via Timer Warner Cable's HD service, which is lacking but is slowly getting better.

I'm still a bit leery of even Blu-ray, as rumors have it, it may be the last physical format. As highspeed internet access is gaining more mainstream subscribers, understandably some believe high-def downloads are the wave of the future; and certainly Live points to this. Thus, I'm being very discriminate with my high-def purchases, focusing on purchasing only movies that I consider top-notch in visual presentation. No, I'm not going to be buying "The Bucket List" on BR, but "Iron Man" and other such top-notch visual rides would suit very well in a top-notch high def format.』

『New York cab driver Korben Dallas didn't mean to be a hero, but he just picked up the kind of fare that only comes along every five thousand years: A perfect beauty, a perfect being, a perfect weapon. Now, together, they must save the world. Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, and Gary Oldman star in acclaimed director Luc Besson's outrageous sci-fi adventure, an extravagantly styled tale of good against evil set in an unbelievable twenty-third century world.』
『Ancient curses, all-powerful monsters, shape-changing assassins, scantily-clad stewardesses, laser battles, huge explosions, a perfect woman, a malcontent hero--what more can you ask of a big-budget science fiction movie? Luc Besson's high-octane film incorporates presidents, rock stars, and cab drivers into its peculiar plot, traversing worlds and encountering some pretty wild aliens. Bruce Willis stars as a down-and-out cabbie who must win the love of Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) to save Earth from destruction by Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg (Gary Oldman) and a dark, unearthly force that makes Darth Vader look like an Ewok.--Geoff Riley

(Be still my inner critic! This DVD is fantastic!)
『I was excited when I read so many positive reviews about this DVD, and am happy to say that they are all right! I have never loved a Yoga program like this one. I even find myself doing some of the moves in my office for a quick pick-me-up. I also bought the Yoga Bliss Hips and like that one very much too!

(Best workouts I have ever done! Works Mind Body and Soul)
『I initially bought Fat Free Yoga for my mom who is in her mid 50's. My sister's and I have been encouraging her for years to walk, exercise, to do SOMETHING, but to no avail she just wasn't motivated to keep up with any of it. From day ONE, she loved the low impact workouts. And I did too!

I am not a novice to working out having done the whole gym scene, classes, running, etc and nothing has ever made such an effective and dramatic difference in my mind and body. I can see it in my mom too; she is actually EXCITED to work out!!! We are calmer, more focused, and overall happier! It goes without saying that we went ahead and got 2 more of Ana and Ravi's DVD's - Dance the Chakras, and Warrior Workout.

In only about 2 months time, we have lost weight and inches. Even if you don't see an immediate difference in your body, there will be an immediate difference in your mind and soul - you WILL FEEL FANTASTIC. I highly recommend this DVD to ANYONE, at any age!! Best $20 I have ever spent. : )』

(GREAT FOR ANY WEIGHT)
『I live with a yoga teacher and have a collection of about 50 different videos. This is one of the most played videos I have. I really like all of Ravi and Ana's videos. The videos are easy to follow because Ravi instructs while Ana demonstrates. Like many of Ravi's videos, this video is divided up into 4 seventeen minute sessions(note I have the older video tape version). The video is designed so that people can do any where from 1 to 4 sessions. I like the convenience of being able to do 1 or 2 sessions on mornings when I am in a rush. I find that this tape will energize me for the rest of the day. Each session provides an opportunity to enjoy a total body workout including meditation and breathing.』

(Fantastic!)
『I have been doing yoga off and on for more than 30 years. I did hatha, bikram, ashanti and yogalattes. This is by far the best DVD ever! The workouts are really hard, but work better than anything I have ever tried. I can literally feel the toxins in my body breaking down, and my muscles feel really toned. This also makes me feel great mentally. I love how this is broken up into segments and the meditations at the end are terrific. I highly recommend this DVD.』

(Love it!)
『It's amazing to me that this can and does work. I thought it would be much more difficult. There are brief moments when it is all I can do to keep up, but this feels more like a break in my daily Kundalini DVD rotation.

(Smallville 7th season)
『Smallville - The Complete Seventh Season

Great season! Highly recommended.』

(<3)
『I LOVE Smallville. This season brings Clark closer to his heritage and comes closer than ever to the Superman legend. (Except for season 8, of course) And his cousin Kara, otherwise known as Supergirl, enters the picture. This season is a must have - completely necessary for the collection - as two actors playing main characters in the show act their last scene in the season finale.』

(The low point of the series?)
『I've been a longtime follower of Smallville, and every year there's always fans (myself included) who finger the current year as "Jumping the shark". If you browse my profile you'll find my reviews of the older seasons start enthusiastic and become more critical as the years pass. While I won't comment on the currently airing season 8, the trend seems to hold true when you compare season 7 to the six that came before it - they're pure genius compared to this mess.

There's way too much going on this year. Smallville always has great comic book-esque storylines, but lacks development and internal logic within its own world. The writers jump from plot to plot with no pacing, so you get seemingly dramatic life-changing events that are completely forgotten by the next episode. There's a shocking twist involving the new Daily Planet Editor that's cut short right when it gets interesting; the return of Clark's biological mom Lara barely lasts an episode; Bizzaro appears and is promptly defeated - twice; Clark travels through time and space to save his infant self on Krypton in all of five minutes. Sam Jones finally returns as Pete Ross and is wasted in horrible product placement. Supergirl is introduced and barely developed before she's saddled with the amnesia cliche and disappears for most of the season. Why not settle on 2 or 3 storylines and develop them properly? And don't blame the writer's strike, which cuts this season by 2 episodes - the problems were obvious before the strike happened.

Speaking of outside influences, quite a few characters leave the show this year. Kristen Kreuk's sudden departure to film Street Fighter leaves her already weak character a rather anemic farewell - luckily she'll be back briefly in season 8 to tie up loose ends. Another character that I won't spoil dies a noble death, and will be missed. It's Rosenbaum's departure that's the real kicker, though. Not only is Smallville's best actor not coming back, but he's left with an ambiguous and unsatisfying ending. Hardly a great capper to 7 years of amazing work.

There are some things Smallville does right this year - the return of Brainiac and the 'Veritas' storyline bring a sense of continuity that the show has been sorely lacking. But overall, there's a lack of coherency that seasons 5 and 6 tried to have, and the show has no heart now that the Kent parents are gone. Whether or not you need this season depends on if you bought the first six and absolutely want the complete collection.』

(Superman fan for life!)
『Smallville - The Complete Seventh Season continues the journey of Clark Kent growing up in Smallville while meeting new enemies and allies, Smallville puts up a wonderful story with spectacular graphics, a must buy for those that are into the superhero's series!』

(And this could have been so close to a flop)
『I think, of all the Smallville seasons so far, this comes closest to being the cheesiest, most melodramatic, and fan-pleasing. And that is not a bad thing. With the introduction of Super Girl and more crazy theories, Smallville walked a fine line that easily could have fallen the wrong way.

I have to say that I loved it. This is a thoroughly enjoyable season, for all its wildness. The characters and associating actors are wonderful and comfortable in their roles (as well they should be by now) and there seems to be no end to the possible storylines. Even the recycling of characters and plot twists are appreciated, just because they are done with so much heart. Indeed, there is a good blend of fun/silly and absolute drama here. It's a fine blend.

Frankly, if madcap superhero drama/melodrama/angst/goofiness bothers you, you probably would not be this far into the series. If it doesn't bother you, then this is a season that gives what it is famous for and I for one loved it.』

(I am kicking myself for wasting money)
『We bought the 3D version in total excitment and whimsical anticipation for a must have classic in our holiday library.

We watch this movie every year since it came out, on Christmas Eve. So with 3D coming to us we were extatic. Well, we received it Nov.17 and had to peek at it to see the great 3D awesomeness....

Do not fall for this - it is a horrible, double vision, color headache, poorly put together, misrepresentation of the original. It is a waste of 20+ bucks!!!

The 3D has got to be the worst I have ever seen. the double vision gives you a crossed eyed headache, and there is absolutely no adjusting it to help. I wish I could return it for my money back!!!!!!!』

(What a COMPLETE RIP-OFF!)
『The anaglyph 3D used here is absolutely JUNK - worse than anything I have seen, and certainly not of the usually high standards of WB Home Video. This is a MAJOR faux-pas for Warner Home Video, and a complete rip off for consumers. Double images, not depth. I urge Warner Bros. to go back and re-issue this in proper 3D form, similar to the "Journey to the Centre of the Earth", and let consumers get a replacement disc. What a way to kill the value of this great catalog title!

Despite the novelty, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!』

(A charming tale)
『I loved Chris Van Allsburg's book and illustrations so was thrilled when the animated movie turned out to be as good as my imagination!
Lovely music and enchanting visions tell the adventure of a doubting young lad on Christmas Eve as he "dreams" of boarding THE POLAR EXPRESS on which there are other children and the only adult around, the wily and shape-shifting ticket conductor.
They're all off to see what the Spirit of the Season is all about and if there really is a Santa Claus.
I love it so much I gave copies to all my far-flung grown children to start a Holiday tradition with their children.』

(3-D Imagery leaves much to be desired)
『The red/blue 3-D system used here leaves much to be desired. There's a lot of ghosting (double imaging), particularly through the red filter, and few of the 3D images really "pop." All red/blue systems have their problems, but they seems worse on this DVD. Those snow flakes that ought to be so real you can almost catch them on your tongue are a blur. The magenta/blue system used recently on the home 3-D edition of "Journey to the Center of the Earth" is much better and has much less ghosting. In all, "Polar Express 3-D" is a disappointment, especially if you saw "Polar Express" in IMAX 3-D a few years back or in several annual reissues.』

(Nicer Glasses Don't Work Any Better)
『I just wanted to let everyone know that nicer glasses don't work any better. I purchased a set of nice high quality plastic glasses hoping that this would correct the horrible double image with the cardboard glasses but it did not. The image looks exactly the same so don't waste any more of your money on that idea. It's too bad, this was such a wonderful movie in 3D.』
『Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 10/28/2008 Rating: G』
『Destined to become a holiday perennial,The Polar Expressalso heralded a brave new world of all-digital filmmaking. Critics and audiences were divided between those who hailed it as an instant classic that captures the visual splendor and evocative innocence of Chris Van Allsburg's popular children's book, and those who felt that the innovative use of "performance capture"--to accurately translate live performances into all-digital characters--was an eerie and not-quite-lifelike distraction from the story's epic-scale North Pole adventure. In any case it's a benign, kind-hearted celebration of the yuletide spirit, especially for kids who have almost grown out of their need to believe in Santa Claus. Tom Hanks is the nominal "star" who performs five different computer-generated characters, but it's the visuals that steal this show, as director Robert Zemeckis indulges his tireless pursuit of technological innovation. No matter how you respond to the many wonders on display, it's clear that The Polar Express represents a significant milestone in the digital revolution of cinema. If it also fills you with the joy of Christmas (in spite of its Nuremberg-like rally of frantic elves), so much the better.--Jeff Shannon

DVD features
The most intriguing feature on the two-disc DVD is probably the six-minute sequence featuring a new song performed by the two engine-room characters, Smokey and Steamer. The animation is crude and the song is nothing special, but it does preserve the dual performances of Michael Jeter (he played both characters), who passed away during filming. One of the striking aspects ofThe Polar Expressis its use of motion-capture technology to turn real actors into animated characters, and that is examined in a significant portion of the five-part 11-minute featurette, in the "look at" Tom Hanks's multiple performances, and in an Easter egg that offers a side-by-side comparison of the actors in their motion-capture suits with the finished film in the "Hot Chocolate" number. There's also a live performance of Josh Groban singing "Believe" followed by an interview segment with him and composer Alan Silvestri, author Chris Van Allsburg providing a five-minute capsulization of his career, a PC game demo, and a kids' set-top game. The version of the film on DVD is the standard theatrical version, not the 3-D version seen in IMAX theaters.--David Horiuchi

(An interesting peek at Who history)
『First up, salute to some of the other reviewers here at Amazon, a few of the featured (as I write this) reviews do a pretty good job of covering this artifact of rock concert history that has finally made it's way to Blu-ray disc. As noted, the concert performace is coarse in spots since the band hadn't peformed together in a years time. There are glitches during the performance that quite obviously irritate the band members and remind viewers that what they are seeing was filmed live and includes all of the warts.

What's also included is all of the energy of a Who concert. Pete Townshend's windmill guitar strumming, Keith Moon's frenetic drum playing (including flinging the drum sticks around and losing them time and again...) -- side note: if someone wanted to put together a drinking game for play while watching this film they'd probably want to include Townshend's windmill strumming and Moon's losing the drumsticks as the requirements to take another swig. It wouldn't take long at all to find the participants in such a drinking game pretty well inebriated ;-) -- and of course Roger Daltrey's strong lead vocals. All of which make bassist John Entwistle's performance seem a bit, well, stiff. No one could blame the guy really, as the rest of his band mate's certainly seemed to have the stage pretty well covered, especially with Townshend's jumping/hopping around the stage repeatedly.

The Who At Kilburn is a fascinating film largely because it even exists on film. It was filmed on 35mm film which is rather unusual for concert footage. Thankfully though that medium works well for providing a master for encoding to high def media, and thanks to that the product that viewers get on Blu-ray is, at least at this point technologically, as good as can be achieved on optical disc media.

Note that the Blu-ray disc is NOT RATED. If it were rated, it would probably have been given an R rating for the utterances of the f-bomb at several points throughout the course of the show.

Most definitely worth viewing, and an item that serious Who fans should add to their collection.』

(blu-ray judders)
『just got the blu-ray on opening day. expect quite a bit a guess but the video has a lot of judder like it running at 12fps not 24. anyone else experiencing this?』

(The Best I've Ever Seen? It's def up there.........)
『I just saw this show at a Marcus Theatre in Addison, IL, just near my home. I had seen it on PBS a few mos ago, but not in HD and not Blu-Ray and NOT in Surround-Sound Stereo. But even when I saw it on regular TV, I was BLOWN away! So seeing it like this was even more amazing. Don't deprive yourself....... if you are a Who fan, you MUST buy this DVD. No questions asked. All 4 members of the band are in excellent form here, and perform very well together. Songs like My Wife, Summertime Blues, My Generation (including a sweet "Join Together" interlude), Fooled, etc, sound more raw and fierce than their album counterparts do (Summertime is just as good here as Leeds). My Wife is one of my personal favorite performances from this show. This is something I can see myself wanting to watch again and again for years to come.』

(What A Show !!!)
『Wow.

Just watched the Kilburn show at a Marcus Theater in Columbus, OH. The sound is just incredible. I doubt there is another better sounding Who concert in their entire catalog.

The show was originally filmed to be part of The Who documentary, The Kids Are Alright. Shot in December of 1977, this was the first show The Who were to perform in over a year, and turned out to be Keith Moon's 2nd to last performace before his death the following year. Apparently the director of TKAA, Jeff Stein, thought the footage was not up to par, and had the boys play another show in May 1978, that would see two songs (Baba O'Reilly&Won't Get Fooled Again) later appear in the film. Prior to the release of this Kilburn show, only a five second clip of Townshend throwing out a challenge to the crowd, and the audio performance of My Wife, on the TKAA soundtrack were released.

While some of the visuals are not as crisp as I would have liked, probably due to the lighting, most of them are incredible. The camera's were right up in their faces like I have never seen. It's really a "one of a kind" style of filming. There are a lot of great Keith Moon close up shots - and he pounded the drums on this night. Keith doesn't look tired, he looks excited to be playing again. Many in close shots of Townshend's guitar playing, and a few good one's of John Entwistle. Little things too, like Townshend's cut up fingers, the set list written on one of Keith's toms, great interaction with the audience.

The set list is standard for them at the time, but has some of the best performances of the staples that I have seen them ever do - Dreaming From the Waist, I Can't Explain, Won't Get Fooled Again, Shakin' All Over, My Generation, Join Together jam, etc.. I only wish they played a few more.

** Worth noting is that this must be the first and last(?) time Keith Moon performed Who Are You live with the band. Nice raw, inspired, early version of the song with Pete working out the chorus and guitar. **

Can't comment on the rest of the DVD release yet, but this performance is worth the money by itself. Can't wait to get blown away over and over again with my surround sound system and screen setup.

The DVD release also includes the London Coliseum show from 1969 - reputed to be one of the band's personal favorites.』

(Hey kids, it's the original Who)
『There is nothing greater than being a life long Who fan. Why? It's because you know in your heart that you're right, they really were the best band to ever walk the planet.

So now we finally get legitimate DVD releases of the original band...some of which actually goes back to the 1969 glory days. What do people do then? Complain of course. Why? It's just what the collectors do best.

I would suggest WAITING until the thing is released before complaining about what they didn't get right? After all, anything involving The Who will NEVER ever be 100% good enough......for the collectors.

Fans though will be overjoyed. I know I will be.』
