Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Good Adaptation) 『I really enjoyed the movie and Michelle Phiffer was just amazing (as always), however, I first experienced Hairspray in the stage version and fell in love with the story, the energy and the songs. The movie not only cut two of my favorite songs from the stage version (Momma I'm a Big Girl Now and Big Doll House) but changes some other scenes and really changed Edna's character. I was disappointed with Edna in general, really I don't think John Travolta was right for the roll. Enda is meant to be a man dresses as a woman, it should be obvious with a deep raspy voice. In the film however, aside of the fact that it's John Travolta, you wouldn't necessarily know it's a man and that part of the humor of the character and that was lost in film. All in all I love the movie as a movie, but if you like the stage version you may be disappointed with this film.』
(A moving movie (no pun intended)) 『Hairspray is one of my all-time favorite movies. Its a great storie about how a girl trys to fallow her dream. Its also holds a great message about breaking boundrys and defying the negitive forces in the world. Such as egotistic racists. I say this because this movie is set in 1962 Baltamore.』
(SHIMMY AND SHAKE) 『An entertaining and uplifting musical that will have you tapping your toes and inspiring the viewer to get up and dance with the music. From 'Goodmorning Baltimore" thru the end you will sing and dance as the music is too compelling to just sit there !!』
(Travolta: Get Out Of My Hair (spray...)) 『Okay, I'm prefacing this review with the fact that I watched very little of this 2007 version of this film. I am a John Waters fan, and enjoyed his amusing original film which starred some of my favorite performers, like Debbie Harry and Water's originals like Mink Stole. Very recently, I was dragged kicking and screaming to front row center seats purchased by a good friend for the national tour of "Hairspray" ( I am generally not a fan of musicals..though I like the classics (Gypsy, West Side Story..) and did enjoy "Wicked." ) Well..I quickly changed my tune, and was myself amazed at the constant grin I had on my face during the show from beginnng to end. The musical numbers were not only show stoppingly great, but the entire cast was absolutely amazing, with the stand out being the actor who played Mother Edna Turnblad. Though I had heard Harvey Fierstein did a magnificent job on the Broadway show, I did not see that. In this live version I have just seen, the only other person I was familiar with who I could have imagined doing as good a job would have been glorious Divine. He/she was very comical, charmingly slovenly, and overall brilliant, and really brought forth the spirit of Divine, without in any way trying to "copy" her, and the audience reaction upon curtain call showed they were apparently in avid agreement with me. My PROBLEM with this film version is the casting of JOHN TRAVOLTA! All too often, original good parts are ruined when the greedy powers that be decide that they will make more quick filthy lucre if they cast a *STAR* name, usually with disasterous artistic results. This film is a perfect example. I admit that the last Travolta vehicle that I liked was "Sat. Night Fever"..as I was a N.Y. disco duck at the time and it was a sensation . Since then, I would describe him as a real "jambon", as Truman Capote might have...and other than maybe "Pulp Fiction" which I have never seen, I defy anyone to name a Travolta film that could remotely be termed a classic, or, even a good film, for that matter. Like his contemporary and fellow self important Scientologist and nut job, Tom Cruise, I do not find them good actors, they are more "actory" than "actor", and I would rather watch 100 nameless, far more talented unknowns than watch either of them emote. Okay, I guess I have made my distaste for Travolta's screen presence clear. He ruined "Hairspray" for me. He's just a big, ugly, fat suited actor who looks completely fake compared to the other actors, even in their time relevant garb..and observing not only his hideous presence but his LOUSY, talentless, unintelligible performance for admittedly only a few laborious minutes made me realize that they might as well have had Big Bird or Barney The Dinosaur cast in this role. I can imagine during production that all present were aware that there was a BIG turkey on the set, and it's name was Travolta....but by then they probably felt it was too late. He even looks completely out of place on the darn dvd cover! (LOOK NOW!! ) Let's face it, most of the films made today are cr*p, and this one can be added to the pile. It is a shame, because people like Queen Latifah were probably very good in their roles in this film, but Tra-revolta's presence made it unwatchable for me. I would be curious to know what John Water's honestly felt about this portrayal, though I imagine that maybe his finally making some well deserved big bucks may compensate for having one of his most famous creations ruined. If Harvey Fierstein, or indeed even the wonderful actor presently playing Edna in the national tour were to have played the film role, it would have been as good and entertaining as the Broadway show. Instead, it is a minor musical and a major joke, at least to me, and that opinion is based on the PUTRID miscasting of Travolta, whose portrayal is completely devoid of any of the charm, camp, and comedy of that great lovable character, "Edna Turnblad." Let's rename Travolta's portrayal "Edna BAD-TURN." Yuck.』
(Fabulous movie!!!!) 『I bought this movie for my daughter, she absolutely loves it...has watched it about 20 times already...If you love upbeat singing and dancing this is a great movie』 『It's 1962, and change is in the air in Baltimore. Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion--to dance. She wins a spot on the local TV dance program, "The Corny Collins Show" and is transformed overnight from outsider to irrepressible teen celebrity. But can the trendsetting Tracy win the heart of teen-dream Link Larkin and stand up for what she believes in, despite the program's scheming stage manager? All she needs is her best friend Penny, a toe- tappin' beat - and a little HAIRSPRAY!』 『It's rare that a movie captures the intensity and excitement of a live Broadway musical production while appealing to a broader movie-going audience, but the 2007Hairsprayis an energetic, powerfully moving film that does just that. A remake of the 1988 musical filmHairspray, the newHairsprayis a film adaptation of the 2002 Broadway musical and features more likeable characters than the original film and an incredible energy that stems from a great cast, fabulous new music, and the influence of musical producer Craig Zadan. What remains constant throughout all three versions ofHairsprayis the story's thought-provoking exploration of prejudice and racism. Set in Baltimore in 1962, the film opens with chubby girl Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) singing her heart out in a rendition of "Good Morning Baltimore" that, while admittedly a bit too long, sets the farcical tone for the film. Viewers quickly become immersed in Tracy's teenage world of popular television dance shows, big hair, the stigma of being different, and the first hesitant steps toward racial integration within a segregated world. The Corny Collins (James Marsden) television dance show is a teenage obsession in Tracy's world and Link Larkin (Zac Efron) is every girl's dream partner, so when a call for auditions goes out, Tracy skips school to try out, but is rejected by station manager Velma von Tussle (Michelle Pfeiffer) because of her large size and the threat of competition for Velma's own daughter Amber (Brittany Snow). Perseverance and the support of her friend Penny (Amanda Bynes), father Wilbur (Christopher Walken), and negro dancer Seaweed (Elijah Kelley) lead Tracy to the spotlight and the chance of a lifetime, but more and more Tracy discovers that fairness and equality for those who are different does not come without a fight and that sacrifices must be made to effect change. While the message is serious,Hairsprayis first and foremost a comedy with stellar performances by John Travolta as Edna Turnblad (who ever imaginedSaturday Night Fever's iconic star would appear onscreen as a woman?), Christopher Walken, and Michelle Pfeiffer. Part of what makesHairsprayso powerful is the exceptional music composed by Marc Shaiman, including songs newly composed for the movie like "Ladies' Choice," "The New Girl in Town," and "Come So Far," and the awesome vocal talents of Queen Latifah (Motormouth Maybelle) and a cast of heretofore musically-unknown actors like Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, and Brittany Snow who really can sing. Notable trivia includes Jerry Stiller's appearance in both versions of the film (as Wilbur in the 1988 film and as Mr. Pinky in this 2007 rendition), and a cameo appearance by 1988 director and screenplay writer John Waters.Hairsprayis one of the best films of the year--it's powerfully moving entertainment that leaves you energized and motivated to fight for what you believe in.--Tami Horiuchi』

Usually ships in 9 to 11 days IPhone 3G used's review (Brosnan's Final Bow) 『I decided to rewatch Pierce Brosnan's Bond swan song once again to see if it was as bad as so many seem to think it is. I had much warmer memories of it myself. Unfortunately I must conclude that it really IS that bad--at least the second half. The compelling opening sequence features a vulnerable 007 being tortured by the North Korean army and even boasts a cane-seat chair, though it's not put to such sinister use as the one Daniel Craig sat on. I happen to like Madonna's driving-techno titular theme theme song as much as I like "You Know My Name", which is bunches. Halle Berry is lovely to look at, but as Jinx receives no assistance from a script that requires her to deliver lines like "Ornithologist, huh? Now there's a mouthful" while staring at 007's crotch. The thrust-and-parry of sexual inneudo between Bond and his ladies has always been one of the hallmarks of the series, but here they overdo it in extremis. What is supposed to be sparkling repartee falls flat as a bored and weary-looking Brosnan delivers the Bond bons mots with nary a twinkle. It almost looks as though he could be thinking, "My God, I'm old enough to be her dad." Their bedroom scene does have the requisite zest, proving that Brosnan's 007 was hardly ready for pasture, but rather an unfortunate victim of timing and increasingly lousy scripts. Brosnan was a capable physical actor, but was hampered by overbloated CGI; the fight sequences here are painfully faked up, unlike the Craig era where the punches seem all too bone-crunchingly real. Quizzically, two of the crafters behind the superb "Casino Royale" script, Neil Purvis and Robert Wade, are also responsible for this turkey. Upon moving to the centerpiece Icelandic sequence, which goes on for an eternity, DAD rivals "Moonraker" for Most Cheesy Sci-Fi Moments Ever. John Cleese provides all-too-brief comic relief; having fully succeeded the late Desmond Llewellyn in the role, he is no longer 'R' but has been fully promoted to 'Q', which stands for 'Quartermaster'--duh, of course! My favorite moment is a steamy makeout session between Bond and Moneypenney that is no less scorching for being all in her head, compliments of a virtual simulator. Or should I say 'stimulator'? Brosnan may have been supplanted by a worthy successor in Daniel Craig, but silly scripts and ridiculous CGI aside, he is still capable of leaving me both shaken and stirred.』
(James BOMBED...) 『Wow. This was cinematic vomit for sure. I saw Quantum of Solace earlier tonight and it was kickarse. Since this was on TV I decided to watch it since there was nothing else... and boy, this movie SUCKED!!!!!! Worst 007 movie ever. There's so many bad things about the movie I'm not even kidding. Such as:
- The Gunbarrel opening scene- stupid bullet and the calypso version of the theme...
- That god-awful Madonna song... Techno and Bond do NOT mix!
- Halle Barry. Wasted actress. She was AWFUL as a Bond girl. Sure she was hot, but she was AWFUL.
- CG CG everywhere... I'm not lying, this is the most godawful CG-laden film I've ever seen. The plane??? The scorpions??? That car???
- The stupid vanishing car.
- LAME WRITING. I don't think I've ever met someone named "Mr. Kil"
- The lair looked like a disco with lasers everywhere
- As if Madonna's theme wasn't bad enough, her totally pointless cameo. Not only did she suck, but did Tom Jones or Shirley Bassey get a cameo???
There's more I can name, but there's WAY too many...』
(007) 『Bond fan since DR No. I enjoyed this, mostly. Bond being tortured/rough handled made for a fuller story arc. The many references to earlier Bond films was fun. Exciting sword fight. I personally volunteer to thaw out the frigid Miranda Frost. Halle Berry was a full character, part of the story, not just a side dish. I enjoyed Bond entering the lobby of the fancy hotel, dripping wet wearing only pajama-bottoms, initially dismissed, ultimately.』

(For people curious about the BLURAY version) 『First off I had to do a firmware upgrade just to play the movie. Two stars given because the movie is so good. I would give it one for the bluray disc. There isnt one scene minus the opening titles that stands out clearity. I had high hopes for this bluray. MGM usually has a fantastic bluray disc. Just look at "FROM HELL". This IS NOT a crystal clear picture. This looks as good as any other dvd copy. There is black static throughout. You can notice it in the background. Its the actual copy of the film. This wasnt remastered for bluray. I am a huge supporter of blu but when a movie comes out and its a waste of your money I will review, I.E. The Italian Job remake. HORRIBLE. Like I said. No need to spend money on this double dip. It is not a crystal clear version. 』 『When his top-secret mission is sabotaged, James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) finds himself captured by theenemy, abandoned by MI6 and stripped of his 00-license. Bristling with excitement and bursting with explosivespecial effects, Die Another Day is anadrenaline-pumping thrill-ride with "stunts and non-stop action [that] will astonish you" (Jeffrey Lyons, WNBC-TV)! *2001: Actress, Monster'sBall』 『The 20th James Bond adventure,Die Another Daysucceeds on three important fronts: it avoids comparison toAustin Powersby keeping its cheesy humor in check, allows Halle Berry to be sexyandworthy of a spinoff franchise, and keeps pace with the technical wizardry that modern action films demand. Pierce Brosnan's got styleandstaying power as James Bond, now bearing little resemblance to Ian Fleming's original British super-spy, but able to hold his own at the box office. He's paired with American agent Jinx (Berry) in chasing a genetically altered North Korean villain (Rick Yune) armed with a satellite capable of destroying just about anything. John Cleese and Judi Dench reprise their recurring roles (as "Q" and "M," respectively); they're accompanied by weapons-laden sports cars, a hokey cameo by Madonna (who sings the techno-pulsed theme song), and enough double-entendres to keep Bond-philes adequately shaken and stirred. Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review ("I will milk them until the are dry."--George Lucas) 『There's really not much to say about this DVD box set. It includes the three movies that make up the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy: THE PHANTOM MENANCE, ATTACK OF THE CLONES, and THE REVENGE OF THE SITH. There are some extras on these discs, but don't be fulled by the way they are worded: everything on here has been released before. There is nothing new on the discs (unless there's some Easter egg I haven't found, yet). This is once again an example of George Lucas milking the cash cow for all it's worth. However, I think even die hard Star Wars fans have begun to see that George is really the President of the Trade Federation and have stopped buying re-treads like this.
The only reason to buy this DVD box set is if you haven't already purchased thee movies before. Even if you haven't you might be able to buy all three separately and still get them for a total of about $5 less than this set.』
(Lucas - WE WANT BLU-RAY!) 『Fantastic set if you do not own already on DVD. However, like most who have now purchased multiple versions of the DVD we are demanding that George Lucas WAKE UP and provide a blu-ray edition.』
(I hear people complaining already: "Where's the Blu-Ray DVD's of "Star Wars?") 『Lucas will probably release these on to Blu-Ray DVD's when something better than Blu-Ray comes out. And then you can buy the new format again and again and again and again and again and so on and so on.
Do you think video quality improvement is going to end with Blu-Ray? I'll bet they are working on something better than Blu-Ray as we speak so that maybe 5 years from now when everyone's replaced their favorite DVD's with Blu-Ray discs, they'll expect us to start replacing our favorite Blu-Ray movies with, yet again, another improved format.
See where I'm going with this? You are probably going to buy Star Wars over and over again til the day you die! I'll stick with the DVD's that I have. They all look fine, and there is no reason to buy them again. That goes for "Star Wars" as well as my other 600 or so movies that I can barely find time to watch as it is.
Getting the best picture of your favorite movies over and over again, year after year, is compulsively expensive and is hardly, realistically, not very necessary.
Get a life people! Get off the couch!
And what's more, I personally think the first two films of the prequel are dull to have to watch anyway. Jar Jar Binks is too annoying and queer and of all three of the films, the CGI is done at an overkill level. Too much distracting art. I'm still trying to decide if I'll buy the whole "prequel" box, or just pick up "Revenge of the Sith" just because it sets the stage for "A New Hope" which is where all the special effects were more natural looking and believable visually. I hate how Hollywood depends on CGI so much anymore. It's like trying to combine cartoons within the movies. It just gives me headaches after while, as well as reduces the focus and comprehension of the story itself.』
(Finally!) 『Finally they released a box set for the Prequel Trilogy! I had not purchased the Episodes I, II and III because I felt that if they released a box set for IV, V and VI, they had to do it with the first ones as well.
Well, the wait was worth it, finally they released a box set for the new movies. Good quality of the video and the boxes are awesome.
Buy these if you are a SW fan!!!』
(Packaged Prequel: Exactly what I've been waiting for) 『This is exactly what I've been waiting for: a low-priced collection of the "first" three Star Wars movies for my modest DVD collection. I actually caught a deal yesterday that allowed me to buy both collections (the Trilogy and the Prequel Trilogy) for $34.99 combined, so this set will work great. The Trilogy will replace my old VHS set, and now I'll finally have the Prequel Trilogy. Yes, I hated Jar-Jar, and these movies aren't my favorite ever made; however, it'll give some closure to my OCD-driven need to complete a movie series. In that respect, this release is perfect for me.
Why all the hate from the Star Wars geeks? As you've relentlessly pointed out, these are the same movies that Lucas has been releasing for the last few centuries; why does one more offend you so? It's targeted to me, not you. This particular packaging works great for folks like me who just want the basic collection at an affordable cost.
Just wait a few more months for the "Super Jedi Apprentice Textbook Remastered Restored Empire Standard Version" (which will undoubtedly be on Blu-Ray). Then you can have the movies you so love to hate in all their mediocre glory.』 『Disc 1: Star Wars Episode 1 WS Disc 1 **Commentary by George Lucas and company

There are many teenagers out there with far more talent than Miley Cyrus, and it is ludicrous that this teenybopper is making more money in one month than many hardworking families make in their lifetime. Miley's even telling us the meaning of one of her songs, dedicated to her late grandfather.
The overall impression is of a well-balanced, loved by her daddy good girl who is not likely to turn bad or weird, the way some other teen idols did as they aged.
As for the 3-D experience, it's the old red-blue technology. You don't need any special hardware other than the cardboard 3-D glasses but you lose a most of the colors, sacrificing colors for depth. On a hi-res TV it's a pretty good experience.

The movie opens with Miley Cyrus backstage in make-up and hair, warming up with vocal exercises, then cuts to Hannah Montana (her alter ego)'s performance of "Rock Star," and then back in time to four weeks before her performance when concert rehearsals were just beginning. It runs like a backstage special feature for a while, following Hannah Montana through coaching, choreography scenes with Kenny Ortega, and rehearsal sessions. Then it's back to concert footage from opening night in St. Louis and all along the tour, seasoned here and there with some fun looks at the concerts' special effects, quick costume changes, other logistical challenges (Hannah gets dropped during a routine early in the tour), and lots of shots of the enthusiastic, mostly female 'tween audiences. The 3D format gives the audience a nice sense of being there and includes some effective, if somewhat overused shots of the crowd waving, Hannah/Miley reaching out to the audience, and fun stunts like the drummer's twirling stick thrown high in the air and the guitar player's pick being tossed out into the audience. The sound is adequate, but fails to replicate the live concert experience (the plus side is that the audience's ears won't be ringing for hours after the performance). Hannah Montana's performance includes "Rock Star," "Life's What You Make It," "Just Like You," "Nobody's Perfect," and "We Got the Party." The Jonas Brothers perform "When You Look Me In the Eyes" and "Year 3000," and then Miley hits the stage with "Start All Over," "I Got Nerve," "I Miss You" (which Miley wrote in honor of her Granddad's passing), "Going Away," "GNO: Girl's Night Out," and "The Best of Both Worlds." This 3D concert presentation truly is the "best of both worlds," a 3D concert experience with easy availability and minimal expense. Now I am 29 and have two kids of my own and they loved this new and improved version of the chipmunks as well. It's nice to see some values never change. This movie is hilarious and it's a must have for any family with little ones. Watch this movie and you will laugh the whole way through.』
(Love those little chipmunks!) 『The movie was funnier than I thought it would be. I loved hearing those little chipmunks sing and they looked so real that I began to think I could go out and get our own chipmunk that hangs out at front door to come in and sing too. It was hilarious watching Jason Lee make their little costumes for them and try to teach them right from wrong. The tree the chipmunks lived in was cut down and hauled into a big city and the little guys had to hid out in Jason's basket to get out of building. When they saw how he was struggling to produce something new in the song industry, they had to help out. He had to teach them about keeping the home clean. The messy little things wrecked his home in no time and he told them they would get, uh...rodents if they didn't keep it cleaner. Hey, they turned out to be great housekeepers! Both kids and adults will love it!』
(Way better than expected) 『I just knew this movie was going to be bad. Everytime they take a cartoon from back in the day and try to turn it into a movie its usually horrible (Dudley Do-Right, The Flintstones, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Garfield) so needless to say my expectations for this movie were quite low.....BOY WAS I SURPRISED! Watched it with my daughter and I loved probably more than she did. Simply put....the movie is good. Its a film you can watch with your kids that you'll actually enjoy.』
(Very cute movie) 『This a a very warm loving movie. It is great for the family and kids.』
(KIDS WILL LOVE IT AND ADULTS CAN ENJOY IT!) 『I was very skeptical about this film watching the trailers for it, but I must admit it's cute with a good message for kids. The Chipmunks steal the show and Jason Lee has the classic "AAAAALVIN" scream down pat! Hey let's faces it, Chipmunks talk funny and these animated critters are just so darn cute! It's a pretty basic story, but the cast and FX make this harmless movie fun. The kids should really like this one and I would bump the rating up a notch for them.』 『A L V I N ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Dave Seville (Jason Lee) is no exception, so when this flailing musician finds three young talking chipmunks gorging themselves in his kitchen cupboards, Dave is quick to question his sanity and then toss the offending chipmunks outside into the rain and restore order. When Dave hears the chipmunks singing outside his window, he realizes that that unusual trio might just be the world's next vocal sensation and he strikes a bargain with them--the chipmunks can stay with him if they sing his songs. While chipmunks Alvin (Justin Long), Theodore (Jesse McCartney), and Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler) quickly begin to see Dave as a father figure, it's strictly a business arrangement for Dave and he maintains an appropriate emotional distance. Dave's frustration with the chipmunks mounts as they unwittingly wreak havoc on his personal life, but when Dave's old friend and record label mogul Ian (David Cross) begins to exploit the chipmunks for personal gain, Dave suddenly realizes what an important part of his life, and indeed his family, the three chipmunks have become. Hilarity reins in this live action/CGI comedy with many memorable scenes--think chipmunks showering in the dishwasher, riding in remote control planes, and bouncing off the walls under the influence of a serious caffeine buzz. Catchy Chipmunks' songs both new and old promise to lodge themselves in the minds of viewers long after the credits roll and even those none-too-enchanted with the premise of singing chipmunks can't help but be entertained by this comical film. Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Awesome Film) 『This film is freaking great!
I have the Limited Collector's Edition, with the digital copy... the only thing is I can't get the digital copy without the 25 digit authorization code! I can't seem to find it... anybody else experiencing the same thing?』
(wish I'd known what to expect) 『I didn't know much of what to expect--just that it was a historical war movie.
I tell you this so you'll understand why I was underwhelmed for the first quarter of the movie. The monochromatic filming, mostly in sepia tones, but then occasionally in blues, got pretty irritating. And then there was the Heroic Music and the Ominous Music trying to get me all excited or worried about characters I didn't even know yet. And that was really irritating.
It starts off with voice-over narration and a little boy going off to be trained as a Spartan warrior. Complete with a weird-looking CGI wolf. I couldn't figure out why they couldn't use a real wolf. Lots of scrawny kid skulking around being shadowed by a goofy looking wolf with the dramatic music. In sepia.
Truthfully, I was tempted it to the males and go off to the computer or a book.
But it's a good thing I kept watching. Once the boy grew up, he became King Leonidas (Gerard Butler). Xerxes of Persia invades, and Leonidas goes to the Oracle to get... well, basically to get permission to repel the invasion. But the priests are paid off and they advise against it. So Leonidas takes 300 men for a walk.
There's intrigue back home as the Queen tries to send reinforcements, but mostly, it's battle scenes. The fighting did really remind me of the Alerans in Captain's Fury (Codex Alera, Book 4)--the shieldwall type of fighting and the disciplined soldiers were very familiar.
The cinematography continues, with the colored filters and a somewhat dizzying switching between slow motion and fast forward. Here's where knowing what I was getting into might have helped. I've since discovered that 300 is based on a graphic novel that's based on a movie that's based on history. And then it made sense--the cinematography gave it that stylish, surrealistic feel that fits with the graphic novel.
It also made the violence much easier to take for this squeamish viewer.
So, 4 stars, but if I'd known what to expect, I'd probably have enjoyed it a half-star more.』
(I loved this movie) 『I originally had to view this movie for a history class on history on film. This movie blew me away. You have to keep in mind that it is based on a comic book so the coloring and graphics are going to look exactly like a graphic novel, which is actually one of the best parts because it is so unique. The movie is a little gory but that's because it is depicting one of the most famous battles of Ancient Greece. The acting is amazing. Also, while you are watching it, you can see a lot of intentional parallels with America and its involvement in the war in Iraq. When the Spartan Queen goes before her "congress" she speaks about how the war is being fought for all the reasons America goes to war. So this movie is actually oddly relevant.
This movie will have you rooting for the 300 spartans and will have you on the edge of your seat. It is non-stop action and fairly historically accurate. It also follows the graphic novel to a "T". I highly recommend this for any history fans, graphic novel fans, and fans of war&actions movies. Word of warning, it is a little graphic and there is a scene where the King and Queen of Sparta are "intimate" so it is not for young viewers.』
(Great Visuals, Over-the-Top Performances) 『"300 - The Limited Collector's Edition" is a deluxe repackaging of the feature film with mountains of bonus extras. The plot focuses on the Battle of Thermopylae, when armies of the Persian Empire were hot to conquer Sparta. The macho Spartans have been indoctrinated since birth to never surrender, never retreat. King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) leads 300 of his bravest men to lure the Persians into a narrow gorge where the enemy's huge numbers will be of no advantage. However, traitors are working to undermine Sparta's attempt to maintain its independence. Based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller ("Sin City"), "300" is a bloody movie filled with over-the-top, intense images and a stylized manner of acting in which performers are given to shout and bluster, delivering every line as if it were vitally significant. This tends to get tired pretty quickly. But the movie is fun, if only for the wild visuals combining live action and CGI animation and the film's muted color palette. In its clear demarcation between good and evil, "300" is hardly subtle and in many ways is a throwback to films of the 1950's when the audience knew from the get-go that the star was the one to root for. This is simple story-telling embellished with breathtaking visuals, the true attraction of the movie. The Limited Collector's Edition contains the previously released two-disc Special Edition along with the new documentary, "To the Hot Gates: A Legend Retold," a look at the process the filmmakers followed to take a graphic novel's treatment of an ancient legend and realize it as a feature film. There are also a digital copy of the movie, a 52-page hardcover art book, a lucite display with motion film image, and six photo cards.』
(Lame lame lame) 『I went to this movie with few expectations. From the previews, I expected no more than a random, brutal, and stylized action flick, but it still didn't impress. The movie replaced half of the would-be action and violence with a steriotypical story about a soldier giving his life for his family. The movie shoulv'e at least mellowed out the overly-dramatic and soap-opera like emotional dialogue, because it didn't work out very well with the overall presentation of the film. As far as the stylized action goes, the computer-generated blood looks cool as swords impact flesh, but every drop of blood dissapears before it reaches the edge of the screen .Noone wasnts to see an awesome blood spurt fly through the air, and then quickly fade into nothing. This was just downright lame. All of the soldiers would come out of battle clean and blood-spatter free. This is in no way nearly as good as Sin City. Lastly, the movie doesn't feel either visceral nor intense, just clean and full of disapearing blood effects. The movie comes off as lame and cheesy. Rent it first.』 『The epic graphic novel by Frank Miller (Sin City) assaults the screen with the blood, thunder and awe of its ferocious visual style faithfully recreated in an intense blend of live-action and CGI animation. Retelling the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, it depicts the titanic clash in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his massive Persian army. Experience history at swordpoint. And moviemaking with a cutting edge.』 『LikeSin Citybefore it,300brings Frank Miller and Lynn Varley's graphic novel vividly to life. Gerard Butler (Beowulf and Grendel, The Phantom of the Opera) radiates pure power and charisma as Leonidas, the Grecian king who leads300of his fellow Spartans (including David Wenham ofThe Lord of the Rings, Michael Fassbender, and Andrew Pleavin) into a battle against the overwhelming force of Persian invaders. Their only hope is to neutralize the numerical advantage by confronting the Persians, led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), at the narrow strait of Thermopylae. More engaging thanTroy, the tepid and somewhat similar epic of ancient Greece, 300 is also comparable toSin Cityin that the actors were shot on green screen, then added to digitally created backgrounds. The effort pays off in a strikingly stylized look and huge, sweeping battle scenes. However, it's not as to-the-letter faithful to Miller's source material as Sin City was. The plot is the same, and many of the book's images are represented just about perfectly. But some extra material has been added, including new villains (who would be considered "bosses" if this were a video game, and it often feels like one) and a political subplot involving new characters and a significantly expanded role for the Queen of Sparta (Lena Headey). While this subplot by director Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead) and his fellow co-writers does break up the violence, most fans would probably dismiss it as filler if it didn't involve the sexy Headey. Other viewers, of course, will be turned off by the waves of spurting blood, flying body parts, and surging testosterone. (The six-pack abs are also relentless, and the movie has more and less nudity--more female, less male--than the graphic novel.) Still, as a representation of Miller's work and as an ancient-themed action flick with a modern edge,300delivers.--David Horiuchi』

If Harvey Fierstein, or indeed even the wonde
