The movie centers around a nurse named Laura Harriman who becomes traumatized after seeing her father kill himself over an embezzlement scandel, after he kills his own family, except for Laura. She then becomes bent on getting even with stroke victim Bob Martin (Played by Michael Fairman from Dead Silence) who is parylzed and at the same time mute. She gets a chance to do so when she gets a job as his private nurse. Laura gets her revenge by killing members of the Martin family one by one.
I don't really wanna give too much away, especially since the hurricane's approaching. I'll end this review by saying if you can find this movie, get it. The DVD quality's pretty good too.』
(not bad) 『if you like lifetime cheesy thrillers (like i do) you'll like this. its kinda predictable but good for a lazy weekend in bed.』
(Hand That Rocks The Cradle it's not ...) 『But it's not bad, either. Thoroughly entertaining flick about a misfit nurse who swears revenge against a man who caused her father to commit suicide after killing her mother and brother. I found some of the suspense scenes to be rather humorous at times, and the plot holes made the movie even funnier. Good pick for fans of cheap cinema.』
(The Nurse) 『Another of the producer Pierre David's classy thrillers which features Lisa Zane in a surprisingly effective and chilling role. Zane plays Laura Harriman, a nurse whose father was recently accused of embezzlement. When Laura walks in on her father committing suicide and murdering her mother and brother, she vows revenge on the man who accused her father. After Bob Martin, the man who made the accusation, has a stroke after hearing of Laura's family's tragedy, Laura decides to take on her revenge now and take a job as his live-in nurse. Now, Bob is helpless and paralyzed, at the mercy of his new caretaker: Nurse Harriman. Above-average direct-to-video thriller has some decent scares and moments of suspense, but the plot seems to go almost nowhere in some scenes. The performances are good and I found that the music suited the film beautifully adding an eerie feel to it. Unfortunately, the plot holes and the plot going nowhere lower the rating for this. **The reason why Nurse Laura Harriman decides to vow revenge is quite similar to that of Payton Flanders' reason to vow revenge in THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE.』

The results may sometimes veer toward soap opera, especially with the screen frequently filled with adoring close-ups of Omar Sharif and Julie Christie, but Lean's gift for cramming the screen with spectacle is not to be denied. The streets of Moscow, the snowy steppes of Russia, the house in the country taken over by ice; these are re-created with Lean's unerring sense of grandness. Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Like the 60s, if you remember it, you weren't there) 『This warts-and-all concert film captures the bittersweet, drunken conclusion to the Murder City Devil's brief and influential career.
On Halloween, 2001 the Devils played their last show, only weeks after the announcement of their break-up and mere months after the release of Thelema, their darkest, most powerful, and indecently shortest album. Like everything else the band did in their 4 years together, the show was an explosion of gigantic noise, gut-tearing longing, and alcohol fueled desperation. The knowledge that these songs would never again be played added to the intensity performance.
The band is clearly drunk. The crowd is clearly drunk. Andrea Zollo is clearly drunk. It may be that the people holding the camera are drunk as well. Notes are missed, stage banter transforms in to slurred rants, and everyone seems to be either disproportionately happy or disproportionately sad.
There is nothing that seems "staged" for this film. This is further away from "Stop Making Sense" than any other movie of its kind. This was never meant to capture the band at their very best. There is no theme or message to underscore the film. There is no obvious intent to editing choices. The film feels as organic and real as the concert did all those years ago and, as such, is an enjoyable and vital document of a time and place that is no more. 』
(Was there) 『I haven't had the chance to see the DVD, but I don't need to. I was at this show, on October 31st 2001. I can tell you right now it was an idcredible finale to one amazing band. Living right next store to Seattle gave me oppurtunity to see them some 30 times.
They were one of the greatest punk/rock bands of all time, and we still very underrated. I have the cd (RIP) of this show, the quality is great, but it was nothing like the real thing. This was the only Murder City Devils show that I decided just to stand and watch. All the other times I was in the pit at the front of stage, or on stage singing with Spencer. But this time I just stood there, and said goodbye.
After the end of the Devils and shortly after Botch, the Seattle scene seemed empty, and I haven't been to nearly as many shows since. RIP my friends, RIP』
(You Will Be Missed) 『Review by Ray Harkins:
For those uninformed, The Murder City Devils were one of the better, if not verging on best, rock/punk bands in the past 5 or so years. They encompassed everything that was great about music and really just wrote some simple, catchy songs that really drove their point across.
Unfortunately for us due to an incessant touring schedule and line-up changes, The Murder City Devils decided to close up shop after a wildly successful tour with At The Drive In shortly before the close of 2001. Most of the MCD fans picked up the last Sub Pop release of their final live set on record, but very few saw any footage of the band from that particular show.
This DVD captures every sweat-filled moment that The Showbox Theatre held on Halloween 2001. The sound quality is superb, the extras are plenty (with interviews and commentary) and above all the footage is accurately captured from multiple different camera angles.
It would be a shame if this DVD or band got overlooked, but with this piece of their catalog existing, I am sure that will be a hard thing to do.』
(---------) 『if you have to check the rating, you don't need to be watching this to begin with.』 『This DVD includes the Murder City Devils' complete last show, filmed at the Showbox in Seattle, Halloween 2001. (Hilarious movie) 『This was a great movie start to finish. I am so glad i bought it. Michael Caine with a Texas accent is enough all by itself but then you have Robert Duvall as well and a wonderful story. Great directing in this one too. A must see.』
(Wonderful film, if a bit dubious) 『This film made me laugh from the inside and left me happy. This is what a movie experience is meant to be. The humor is not crass, the characters quirky, and the main character holds the plot together nicely. Parts of the film seem a little far-fetched, but that only contributes to its likeability in my eyes. It's clearly the product of someone's imagination, uncluttered by mainstream garbage. An enjoyable family movie, just don't expect it to hold any lessons on honesty :-)』
(Thank you!) 『Not only was this movie entertaining but educational. Somewhere along the way, it seems people have forgotten the most important values in life. To the producers of the movie.....thank you for that reminder.』
(Even my husband loves it...) 『This movie is one of very few family-style movies that my husband (Army, police officer, lover of explosions and Die Hard and that) loves. It's funny, but even more than funny, it has a wonderful message. It's impossible to nitpick the good or the bad with Second Hand Lions; you can only watch it and enjoy it. A must see for anyone with kids, or without. Even cynics are invited.』 『This comedic and touching family film follows the adventures of a shy young boy (Haley Joel Osment) who is sent to spend the summer with his eccentric uncles (Michael Caine, Robert Duvall). At first shocked by his uncles' unconventional behavior that includes ordering African lions through the mail, the boy soon becomes enthralled with unraveling the mystery that has followed the uncles for years. Hearing tales of their exotic adventures involving kidnapped princesses, Arabian sheiks and lost treasure, not only brings him closer to his uncles but also teaches him what it means to believe in something... whether it's true or not.

』 『If you can get past its thick layer of syrup and molasses,Secondhand Lionsreveals itself as a thoroughly decent family film that anyone can enjoy. It gets a little sappy sometimes, but there's something to be said for a movie in which Michael Caine and Robert Duvall play eccentric old brothers who take the easy approach to fishing: instead of a peaceful rod and reel, they use 12-gauge shotguns. When 14-year-old Walter (Haley Joel Osment, teetering on puberty) spends an eventful summer with his great-uncles on their vast Texas farmland (he's been dumped there by his delinquent mom, played by Kyra Sedgwick), he soon discovers they've lived lives full of adventure, excitement, passion, and mystery. Either that or they're old-time bank robbers with a long criminal record, and writer-director Tim McCanlies (who invested similar warmth intoThe Iron Giant) does a nice job of concealing the truth until the very end. Full of enriching lessons and homespun humor,Secondhand Lionshas more substance than most family films. If you enjoyedHoles, you'll probably enjoy this movie, too.--Jeff Shannon』

Not yet released 『The Bourne Identity Freely adapted from Robert Ludlum's 1980 bestseller,The Bourne Identitystarts fast and never slows down. The twisting plot revs up in Zurich, where amnesiac CIA assassin Jason Bourne (Matt Damon), with no memory of his name, profession, or recent activities, recruits a penniless German traveler (Run Lola Run'sFranka Potente) to assist in solving the puzzle of his missing identity. While his CIA superior (Chris Cooper) dispatches assassins to kill Bourne and thus cover up his failed mission, Bourne exercises his lethal training to leave a trail of bodies from Switzerland to Paris. Director Doug Liman (Go) infuses Ludlum's intricate plotting with a maverick's eye for character detail, matching breathtaking action with the humorous, thrill-seeking chemistry of Damon and Potente. Previously made as a 1988 TV movie starring Richard Chamberlain,The Bourne Identitybenefits from the sharp talent of rising stars, offering intelligent, crowd-pleasing excitement from start to finish. --Jeff Shannon
The Bourne Supremacy Good enough to suggest long-term franchise potential,The Bourne Supremacyis a thriller fans will appreciate for its well-crafted suspense, and for its triumph of competence over logic (or lack thereof). Picking up whereThe Bourne Identityleft off, the action begins when CIA assassin and partial amnesiac Jason Bourne (a role reprised with efficient intensity by Matt Damon) is framed for a murder in Berlin, setting off a chain reaction of pursuits involving CIA handlers (led by Joan Allen and the duplicitous Brian Cox, with Julia Stiles returning from the previous film) and a shadowy Russian oil magnate. The fast-paced action hurtles from India to Berlin, Moscow, and Italy, and as he did with the critically acclaimedBloody Sunday, director Paul Greengrass puts you right in the thick of it with split-second editing (too much of it, actually) and a knack for well-sustained tension. It doesn't all make sense, and bears little resemblance to Robert Ludlum's novel, but with Damon proving to be an appealingly unconventional action hero, there's plenty to look forward to.--Jeff Shannon
The Bourne Ultimatum The often breathtaking, final installment in theBournetrilogy finds the titular assassin with no memory closing in on his past, finally answering his own questions about his real identity and how he came to be a seemingly unstoppable killing machine. Matt Damon returns for another intensely physical performance as Jason Bourne, the rogue operative at war with the CIA, which made him who and what he is and managed to kill his girlfriend in the series' second film,The Bourne Supremacy. Now looking for payback, Bourne goes in search for the renegade chief of CIA operations in Europe and North Africa, partnering for a time with a mysterious woman from his past (Julia Stiles) and constantly--constantly--on the run from assassins, intelligence foot soldiers, and cops. Directed by Paul Greengrass(United 93)with the director’s thrilling, trademark textures and shaky, documentary style,The Bourne Ultimatumis largely a succession of action scenes that reveal a lot about the story’s characters while they’re under duress. Joan Allen, Albert Finney, David Strathairn, Scott Glenn, and Paddy Considine comprise the film’s terrific supporting cast, and the well-traveled movie leads viewers through Turin, Madrid, Tangiers, Paris, London, and New York. Overall, this is a satisfying conclusion toBourne’sexciting and protracted mystery. --Tom Keogh』

Not yet released IPhone 3G used's review (In your hands is your destiny) 『Director Guillermo del Toro out did himself and created a film beyond any previous presentation. Although he purposely applied many layers both technologically and psychologically, the actual finished product is deeper and has many more facets. This could be the results of leaving loose ends and just implications. What looks like two stories is really one story where one reality intertwines with another reality until they both merge.
It is 1944 Spain, five years after the Civil War, ten year old Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) is going to meet her new stepfather Captain Vidal (Sergi López.) Vidal is a fascist pro-Franco officer. She is about to meet more than that as she encounters possible friends from another world. We also see how touchier and fantasy are juxtaposed. One of the major questions to answer is, is the magical creatures real and can only be seen because you haveto have the right gaze or are they figments?
You will need to watch the movie several times to get the nuances and see the surrounding environments that you miss when concentrating on the dialog. See how the two world parallels in furniture. See out the two works hold similar tasks as both containing a key and a knife. And there are always more surprises waiting.
The acting is superb especially Ofelia's death scene. Ivana Baquero Won, Imagen Award Best Actress, Premio ACE Best New Actress, Newcomer Award Female (Categoría Femenina), Turia Award New Best Actress, and Nominated, Young Artist Award Best Performance in an International Feature Film - Leading Young Actor or Actress.
The Blu-ray version I watched had English subtitles as option but I found them to be a tad inaccurate and wanting of some of the background conversations. However the director's voice over option helped point out the obvious that was not obvious until he pointed it out. As pointed out by the director the violence was not for violence sake in the story and they did not have cowboy type breakable props.
Bridge to Terabithia [Blu-ray] Pan's Labyrinth 』
(Into the labyrinth) 『 If anyone wants to know where the dark, creepy fairy tales of old went, here's a hint: Guillermo del Toro is doing a pretty good job with the fairy tales for adults.
"Pan's Labyrinth" ("El Laberinto del Fauno") is a sequel of sorts to "The Devil's Backbone," a magical realism film about the Spanish Civil War. But this movie takes us deeper into a world that is half real, half ominous fairy tale, with a unique and imaginative story and some really excellent acting -- in short, a triumph.
Time and place: 1944, Spain. Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) and her very pregnant mother travel to meet her new stepfather, the brutal and murderous Captain Vidal (Sergi López). Ofelia loathes her new stepfather, but is transfixed by the eerie forests around them -- and one night she is visited by a fairy, and encounters a giant faun who tells her that she is Princess Moanna of the netherworld, and must return there.
To do so, he tells her that she must do three things, and gives her a strange book. Ofelia menages first task, but is frightened out of her wits by the second task, which involves a hideous monster with eyes in its hands. Even worse, her mother's pregnancy is getting more dangerous. As the guerillas and the fascists clash, Ofelia faces being trapped outside the netherworld forever... and being offered a terrible choice if she wants to get in.
Fairy tales have become cleaned-up and cutesy over time, so that children can read them without nightmares. But del Toro knows that the best fairy tales are the eerie, bizarre ones for adults, that are connected somehow to the real world. That is what makes "Pan's Labyrinth" so brilliantly dark and heartfelt.
Del Toro obviously crafted this with care, directing it in a dreamlike style and brilliant visuals. The eerie atmosphere of Ofelia's wanderings -- the delicate yet menacing faun, the chalk doors, the monuments, and the pasty nightmare with eyes in its palms -- is both a contrast and a parallel with the everyday world, which Ofelia hopes to escape.
At first, it seems like the post-Civil War and fairy tale stories don't mesh, until you see that the "real world" story is Ofelia's motivation to escape from all the fear, pain and sorrow that her "real life" is full of. But Del Toro's biggest triumph is an ending that is beautifully bittersweet, and which turns out to hinge on Ofelia's newborn brother.
But del Toro's biggest triumph is in the instant connection we feel to Ofelia, with her love of the fantastical and her desire to go somewhere "safe." Baquero is absolutely wonderful in this, as a girl who isn't entirely of this world -- in her heart, she belongs somewhere beyond. And López is the ideal villain -- you spend the whole movie wanting to see him gruesomely killed.

The movie not only cut two of my favorite songs from the stage version (Momma I'm a Big Girl Now and Big Doll House) but changes some other scenes and really changed Edna's character. I was disappointed with Edna in general, really I don't think John Travolta was right for the roll. Enda is meant to be a man dresses as a woman, it should be obvious with a deep raspy voice. In the film however, aside of the fact that it's John Travolta, you wouldn't necessarily know it's a man and that part of the humor of the character and that was lost in film. All in all I love the movie as a movie, but if you like the stage version you may be disappointed with this film.』
(A moving movie (no pun intended)) 『Hairspray is one of my all-time favorite movies. Its a great storie about how a girl trys to fallow her dream. Its also holds a great message about breaking boundrys and defying the negitive forces in the world. Such as egotistic racists. I say this because this movie is set in 1962 Baltamore.』
(SHIMMY AND SHAKE) 『An entertaining and uplifting musical that will have you tapping your toes and inspiring the viewer to get up and dance with the music. From 'Goodmorning Baltimore" thru the end you will sing and dance as the music is too compelling to just sit there !!』
(Travolta: Get Out Of My Hair (spray...)) 『Okay, I'm prefacing this review with the fact that I watched very little of this 2007 version of this film. I am a John Waters fan, and enjoyed his amusing original film which starred some of my favorite performers, like Debbie Harry and Water's originals like Mink Stole. Very recently, I was dragged kicking and screaming to front row center seats purchased by a good friend for the national tour of "Hairspray" ( I am generally not a fan of musicals..though I like the classics (Gypsy, West Side Story..) and did enjoy "Wicked." ) Well..I quickly changed my tune, and was myself amazed at the constant grin I had on my face during the show from beginnng to end. The musical numbers were not only show stoppingly great, but the entire cast was absolutely amazing, with the stand out being the actor who played Mother Edna Turnblad. Though I had heard Harvey Fierstein did a magnificent job on the Broadway show, I did not see that. In this live version I have just seen, the only other person I was familiar with who I could have imagined doing as good a job would have been glorious Divine. He/she was very comical, charmingly slovenly, and overall brilliant, and really brought forth the spirit of Divine, without in any way trying to "copy" her, and the audience reaction upon curtain call showed they were apparently in avid agreement with me. My PROBLEM with this film version is the casting of JOHN TRAVOLTA! All too often, original good parts are ruined when the greedy powers that be decide that they will make more quick filthy lucre if they cast a *STAR* name, usually with disasterous artistic results. This film is a perfect example. I admit that the last Travolta vehicle that I liked was "Sat. Night Fever"..as I was a N.Y. disco duck at the time and it was a sensation . Since then, I would describe him as a real "jambon", as Truman Capote might have...and other than maybe "Pulp Fiction" which I have never seen, I defy anyone to name a Travolta film that could remotely be termed a classic, or, even a good film, for that matter. Like his contemporary and fellow self important Scientologist and nut job, Tom Cruise, I do not find them good actors, they are more "actory" than "actor", and I would rather watch 100 nameless, far more talented unknowns than watch either of them emote. Okay, I guess I have made my distaste for Travolta's screen presence clear. He ruined "Hairspray" for me. He's just a big, ugly, fat suited actor who looks completely fake compared to the other actors, even in their time relevant garb..and observing not only his hideous presence but his LOUSY, talentless, unintelligible performance for admittedly only a few laborious minutes made me realize that they might as well have had Big Bird or Barney The Dinosaur cast in this role. I can imagine during production that all present were aware that there was a BIG turkey on the set, and it's name was Travolta....but by then they probably felt it was too late. He even looks completely out of place on the darn dvd cover! (LOOK NOW!! ) Let's face it, most of the films made today are cr*p, and this one can be added to the pile. It is a shame, because people like Queen Latifah were probably very good in their roles in this film, but Tra-revolta's presence made it unwatchable for me. I would be curious to know what John Water's honestly felt about this portrayal, though I imagine that maybe his finally making some well deserved big bucks may compensate for having one of his most famous creations ruined. If Harvey Fierstein, or indeed even the wonderful actor presently playing Edna in the national tour were to have played the film role, it would have been as good and entertaining as the Broadway show. Instead, it is a minor musical and a major joke, at least to me, and that opinion is based on the PUTRID miscasting of Travolta, whose portrayal is completely devoid of any of the charm, camp, and comedy of that great lovable character, "Edna Turnblad." Let's rename Travolta's portrayal "Edna BAD-TURN." Yuck.』
(Fabulous movie!!!!) 『I bought this movie for my daughter, she absolutely loves it...has watched it about 20 times already...If you love upbeat singing and dancing this is a great movie』 『It's 1962, and change is in the air in Baltimore. Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion--to dance. She wins a spot on the local TV dance program, "The Corny Collins Show" and is transformed overnight from outsider to irrepressible teen celebrity. But can the trendsetting Tracy win the heart of teen-dream Link Larkin and stand up for what she believes in, despite the program's scheming stage manager? All she needs is her best friend Penny, a toe- tappin' beat - and a little HAIRSPRAY!』 『It's rare that a movie captures the intensity and excitement of a live Broadway musical production while appealing to a broader movie-going audience, but the 2007Hairsprayis an energetic, powerfully moving film that does just that. A remake of the 1988 musical filmHairspray, the newHairsprayis a film adaptation of the 2002 Broadway musical and features more likeable characters than the original film and an incredible energy that stems from a great cast, fabulous new music, and the influence of musical producer Craig Zadan. What remains constant throughout all three versions ofHairsprayis the story's thought-provoking exploration of prejudice and racism. Set in Baltimore in 1962, the film opens with chubby girl Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) singing her heart out in a rendition of "Good Morning Baltimore" that, while admittedly a bit too long, sets the farcical tone for the film. Viewers quickly become immersed in Tracy's teenage world of popular television dance shows, big hair, the stigma of being different, and the first hesitant steps toward racial integration within a segregated world. The Corny Collins (James Marsden) television dance show is a teenage obsession in Tracy's world and Link Larkin (Zac Efron) is every girl's dream partner, so when a call for auditions goes out, Tracy skips school to try out, but is rejected by station manager Velma von Tussle (Michelle Pfeiffer) because of her large size and the threat of competition for Velma's own daughter Amber (Brittany Snow). Perseverance and the support of her friend Penny (Amanda Bynes), father Wilbur (Christopher Walken), and negro dancer Seaweed (Elijah Kelley) lead Tracy to the spotlight and the chance of a lifetime, but more and more Tracy discovers that fairness and equality for those who are different does not come without a fight and that sacrifices must be made to effect change. While the message is serious,Hairsprayis first and foremost a comedy with stellar performances by John Travolta as Edna Turnblad (who ever imaginedSaturday Night Fever's iconic star would appear onscreen as a woman?), Christopher Walken, and Michelle Pfeiffer. Part of what makesHairsprayso powerful is the exceptional music composed by Marc Shaiman, including songs newly composed for the movie like "Ladies' Choice," "The New Girl in Town," and "Come So Far," and the awesome vocal talents of Queen Latifah (Motormouth Maybelle) and a cast of heretofore musically-unknown actors like Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, and Brittany Snow who really can sing. Notable trivia includes Jerry Stiller's appearance in both versions of the film (as Wilbur in the 1988 film and as Mr. Pinky in this 2007 rendition), and a cameo appearance by 1988 director and screenplay writer John Waters.Hairsprayis one of the best films of the year--it's powerfully moving entertainment that leaves you energized and motivated to fight for what you believe in.--Tami Horiuchi』
