(By far the best war movie ever)
『I am going to start by saying that I am not a fan of war movies. This series is hands down the best war story I have ever seen. I think it is better than any other war movie or series that I have seen because it focuses on a variety of characters. It isn't just one or two main people. Everyone's flaws and fears and pain is so real. It's long, but you can't stop once you start. I have seen the series 3 times now, and I really want to get the Blu-Ray version and watch it again!』

(BoB Should Get 10 Stars)
『Band of Brothers is by far the best mini series television has ever offered. I love to watch all the mini series, but Band of Brothers is in a category all its own. I particularly like historical and WWII dramas and Band of Brothers is at the top of the list in both categories. I watch different episodes frequently and always find it dynamic, inspiring, revealing, and it draws me back again and again.』

(I just didn't like it)
『I feel it is necessary for me to express a negative view on this TV mini-series that is somewhat legit and reasonable, unlike those found here.

Band of Brothers has wonderful cinematography and very impressive production values, but the stories just doesn't hold my interest through the whole thing, and yes I know they're real stories. I enjoy Enemy At The Gates, The Deer Hunter, and the first-half of Full Metal Jacket, so it's not like I wanted more action. It's just that both the action scenes and the drama scenes do not reach out to me. People say that BoB is so realistic you feel like you're there in the battlefield. Well to me, I wanted to go to sleep. I didn't feel like I was there in combat with these men, otherwise I would be wide awake and on the edge of my seat. I just felt bored out of mind.

I thought I would be in for a wonderful cinematic experience. After all, when people claim that "every episode is a masterpiece" and "BoB is the best damn television I have ever seen," how could you possibly go wrong? People love it so much, they recommend it to everybody, even those who hate war movies. It's also recommended to people who enjoy Saving Private Ryan. I mean, all the signs were there... they were all pointing to this as something that I should thoroughly enjoy. But after the first episode, I just lost interest.

Despite my lack of interest, I was looking forward to "Bastogne" and "Why We Fight" anyways because everyone was talking about it. When I watched "Bastogne" I felt disappointed. It just didn't live up to the hype that people were claiming it to be. I was anticipating "Why We Fight" because many viewers mentioned the "hair-raising experience" of the episode and how just this one episode warranted "an Academy Award" on its own. So of course I was excited, and like "Bastogne" the concentration camp episode didn't move me at all. I felt no emotions when the gates open, and I'm a sentimental person okay... I cried when Mufasa died in The Lion King.

The series jump from character to character but there are a handful of main characters that they focus on. The problem with me is that I just don't care about them. The only real life soldier who I enjoyed viewing is Capt. Speirs. He was just too cool to ignore. If there was more of him, I would give this mini a higher rating.

Now, when people herald Band of Brothers as the greatest television EVER, and that every episode is a MASTERPIECE... that means a lot to me. I don't know whether it was the hype that made me give this series a terrible rating, or if it was the realism. Maybe I have a problem with realistic movies, I don't know but certainly the realistic aspect of Band of Brothers didn't make me appreciate it that much more.

Since this is a subjective review, I give Band of Brothers one star because I watched the entire series so that it can lend credibility to my opinion. If I have to give an objective review, then I wouldn't bother rating this. Plus, I watched many of the episodes a couple of times (Currahee thrice, Bastogne twice, Why We Fight twice, Crossing Point twice, and Points twice) just to make sure that I didn't really like it and that it wasn't just because I had a bad day when I viewed it the first time. But in truth, I didn't like any of the episodes.

I would also like to say that when people claim Band of Brothers as the best television they have ever seen, I hope they're joking because I would rather watch Futurama, Animaniacs, The Wire, Oz, The Sopranos or even Seinfeld than Band of Brothers. I build myself up to disappointment I guess.

Overall, I did not enjoy my viewing experience with Band of Brothers. I would recommend this, however, to everyone else because everyone else seems to love it... but this just isn't for me.』

『I was very pleased with the timeframe in which it arrived. I am giving it for a Christmas gift, so I don't know about the quality. However, it appears to be in good shape.』

(band of Brothers)
『I wanted this movie set for a long time. This is such a great World War II movie that I finished whole night as I received it.』
『Based on the bestseller by Stephen E. Ambrose, the epic 10-part miniseries Band of Brothers tells the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army. Drawn from interviews with survivors of Easy Company, as well as soldiers' journals and letters, Band of Brothers chronicles the experiences of these men who knew extraordinary bravery and extraordinary fear. They were an elete rifle company parachuting into France early on D-Day morning, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and capturing Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden. They were also a unit that suffered 150 percent casualties, and whose lives became legend.

Scene Access

『An impressively rigorous, unsentimental, and harrowing look at combat during World War II,Band of Brothersfollows a company of airborne infantry--Easy Company--from boot camp through the end of the war. The brutality of training takes the audience by increments to the even greater brutality of the war; Easy Company took part in some of the most difficult battles, including the D-Day invasion of Normandy, the failed invasion of Holland, and the Battle of the Bulge, as well as the liberation of a concentration camp and the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest. But what makes these episodes work is not their historical sweep but their emphasis on riveting details (such as the rattle of a plane as the paratroopers wait to leap, or a flower in the buttonhole of a German soldier) and procedures (from military tactics to the workings of bureaucratic hierarchies). The scope of this miniseries (10 episodes, plus an actual documentary filled with interviews with surviving veterans) allows not only a thoroughness impossible in a two-hour movie, but also captures the wide range of responses to the stress and trauma of war--fear, cynicism, cruelty, compassion, and all-encompassing confusion. The result is a realism that makes both simplistic judgments and jingoistic enthusiasm impossible; the things these soldiers had to do are both terrible and understandable, and the psychological price they paid is made clear. The writing, directing, and acting are superb throughout. The cast is largely unknown, emphasizing the team of actors as a whole unit, much like the regiment; Damian Lewis and Ron Livingston play the central roles of two officers with grit and intelligence.Band of Brothersturns a vast historical event into a series of potent personal experiences; it's a deeply engrossing and affecting accomplishment.--Bret Fetzer

(Great!)
『My granddaughter loves this movie and I finally watched it. Enjoyed it so much I think I have watched it at least 4-5 times since then. Amazing how they worked the Beatles songs into this movie. Across the Universe (Two-Disc Special Edition)』

(Good promise.)
『I actually went to see this movie, hoping to hate it, because I thought it was disrespectful to the Beatles, but it turned out to be interesting.

Some of the song references were a little corny (i.e. the clerk saying "well I imagine that when I'm sixty-four....") but it made up by having a good storyline.』

(Welcome to the retro world we live in.)
『The range and change in Beatles music is mirrored in the lives of this highly charged adult fantasy that could have been real for someone. The singing is not always equal to the source, but fits the plot. Like many recent musical defined stories, this one can strain the intent of the composer/performer. That given, the characters are honest in their performances and their growth through time is adequately portrayed. This along with so many other "Baby Boomer Retros" tries hard to define that era for it's own as well as those born long after the 60's and 70's became history. I welcome the effort and admire the compositions. This is an older teen movie, or for adults...not for those who still believe in Santa Clause. It takes a bit of effort to follow and understand, so not for casual observers looking for the quick nude scenes or risque dialogue.』

(Not for Die-Hard Beatles Fans)
『I am a die-hard beatles fan and I absolutely hate this movie. The songs chosen are the generic Beatles, none of the true good ones (come on, no A Day in the Life? or Sgt Peppers? or Norwegian Wood? or Back in the USSR? the list goes on and on). They throw in random Beatles songs that don't fit into the plot what-so-ever (Blackbird, Come Together, While My Guitar Gently Weeps just to name a few). Oh, but there are plenty generic Beatles songs: Hey Jude, I Want to Hold Your Hand, Something, All You Need is Love, and the list keeps on going. Don't get me wrong, those are some great songs, but the Beatles defiantly have better songs. If you are not a beatles fan or a somewhat beatles fan, I'm pretty sure you will enjoy this movie. If you are a die-hard, like myself, you will not. All of my other die-hard beatles fans haven't liked it either, but those who aren't will like it. If you truly love the Beatles, don't waste your time or money.』

(PLEASE, DON'T CALL THIS BEATLES)
『First off let me relate a story that will demonstrate my clear bias to this film going in - My wife had bought the CD based on some review that she had read or on some one's recommendation, it doesn't matter which. She played it for me in the car one night. Before it got to the third song I pulled it out of the deck and tossed it. The music was so bad it was insulting. I couldn't believe that anyone could possibly consider these basterdized renditions of some of the Beatles' greatest songs as music fitting to listen to other tan corporate CEOs who only cared about how much money they might bring in with sales.

Now, if you had to rank this film against others of its nature, say, Hair or Jesus Christ Superstar, from that era, then, you'd have to rank it 5 stars. The movie accomplishes what it attempted to do with each song matched to entertaining visuals, though more often than not the songs' content don't match to the lyrics or to what the Beatles were saying or living at the time they wrote and performed them.

But this film wasn't made in that era, it isn't that era, it is today, here and now.

Fast forward to the future, some time into the present. I was preparing to do my wash as a good documentary (Shut Up and Sing - the story of the Dixie Chicks controversy - no I am not a fan, but the film was good documentary coverage of what they went thru) had just ended. I took a quick scan of what was next offered on the movie channels that I subscribe to and saw this film's write up, thinking, a movie revolving around Beatles' songs, how bad can it be, besides, I'd be in and out of the room doing the laundry, so if I missed any of it, at least the songs would help me pass the time. How wrong I could have been never crossed my mind. Unfortunately I didn't put the CD and movie in the same context until I was well into the film.

Just to set the record straight - I stopped paying attention to this film before it was halfway through - I only wish I had a fast forward function on my set as I would have liberally used it during the time I was watching the film. I also want to state that I did not turn the film off, I did not walk out, I just tuned out.

Given there are well over 400 reviews in this Amazon posting I didn't read them all, though I did my best to read as many of the negative ones as possible, once again, showing my bias. I started by reading the positives and found that they were basically all along the same lines, praising the greatness of the artists, the director, the visuals, and the accomplishments of all of their visions. I guess they were the same people that Mama Mia was created for.

About all I could add to the line of positive thoughts about Across the Universe is that the film did its best to follow thru with an exploration of that era's look, feel, and philosophies, while attempting to include all sorts of events and music innovations (was that woman supposed to Janis and her boyfriend Hendrix), although, those were basterdized as well, ala Woody Allen's Zelig style, and later Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump.

Maybe I'm thinking of Across the Universe was a mutation birthed by a copulation of the films Hair and Godspell.

If you want to see a movie with Beatles' songs in it see Hard Day's Night, see HELP, even go see Yellow Submarine (not one of my favorites though great music) but whatever you do, don't see Across the Universe and then walk around telling people you just saw a great Beatles film because all you saw was this bad piece of crappy celluloid. If you want to hear great Beatles' songs, listen to the Beatles. Listen to any one of their songs, song by them, and then compare it to the songs in this film. If you think these were as good, came even close, or were actually better, then . . . you, my friend, are just a fool without a hill.

[Note: I'm not a fan of the films Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and Tommy (OK, not a Beatles' film but all of these films are of the same mindset, look and feel), but this ain't no Tommy, it ain't no SPLHCB (though I guess that was what they were thinking), and it ain't a decent attempt at properly portraying the Beatles' songs.]

PS: I find it extremely unfortunate that the writer, director, and producers felt they needed to coop the aspects of British music history (the way they used the Beatles' final roof concert as a plot dressing in the closing of this film turned my stomach) that they did in this film and morph them into some sort of American basterdization of life seen thru American eyes during that era. But I guess that was what this movie was all about, morphing life into their desire to make money. Am I wrong or did this movie only last 3 weeks in theaters?』

Across the Universe, from director Julie Taymor, is a revolutionary rock musical that re-imagines America in the turbulent late-1960s, a time when battle lines were being drawn at home and abroad. When young dockworker Jude (Jim Sturgess) leaves Liverpool to find his estranged father in America, he is swept up by the waves of change that are re-shaping the nation. Jude falls in love with Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), a rich but sheltered American girl who joins the growing anti-war movement in New York's Greenwich Village. As the body count in Vietnam rises, political tensions at home spiral out of control and the star-crossed lovers find themselves in a psychedelic world gone mad. With a cameo by Bono,Across the Universeis "the kind of movie you watch again, like listening to a favorite album." (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times)』
『Set in America during the Vietnam War,Across the Universeis a powerful love story set against a backdrop of political and social unrest: it's a story of soul-searching, self-doubt, and individual powerlessness cleverly conveyed through a multitude ofBeatlessongs. Like young adults all across America during the 1960's, Jude (Jim Sturgess), Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), Max (Joe Anderson), Sadie (Dana Fuchs), Prudence (T.V. Carpio), and JoJo (Martin Luther) are in turmoil over the war; questioning their individual roles in the war effort and struggling to find a way to hold true to their beliefs while making a difference in the world. While love proves a powerful uniting force, its limitations become clear as relationships are strained and broken over individual perceptions of responsibility to cause and country. A fairly bizarre juxtaposition of extremely stylized, almost hallucinogenic scenes of swirling colors and reflections, highly choreographed dance segments, seemingly commonplace character interaction, and emotionally packed close-up footage of characters lost in contemplative song, this film imparts a good sense of the confusion and passion of the time and is at once powerful, invigorating, and disturbing. The film runs a bit long at 2-hours 11-minutes and several segments drag noticeably thanks to some incredibly slow song tempos. Warning: this production may change how you think about a favoriteBeatlessong forever.--Tami Horiuchi

(Rambo Blu-Ray Boxset Review)
『I love every Rambo movie, I own First Blood on VHS, and the following two on DVD, so, naturally, when I got a Blu-Ray player, I made this my first Blu-Ray experience. These are great, highly recommended if you already like the movies. I only wish they included more special features with the extra disc space they got. Rambo 1-3 Boxset [Blu-ray]』

(Rambo!)
『They have captured Rambo in his glory. The picture has been refined and looks better than it ever did. The sound isn't the best but the action more than makes up for it. Great for a trip down memory lane.』

(Movies for men who like movies)
『"A masterpiece...feel good movie of the year...can't take your eyes of the breathtaking imagery"

You better look elsewhere if you're looking for those sort of movies; however, all the vital ingredients of a movie that not only permits, but encourages you to set your mind on "auto-pilot" are here:

Required ingredients:
*Cheesy dialogue (CHECK)
*Mustache-twirling villain (CHECK)
*Wave after wave of faceless bad guys (CHECK)
*One man army against ridiculous odds (CHECK)
*Unbridled killing (CHECK)

Optional, but highly recommended:
*Vengeance (CHECK)
*Grenade-tipped arrows; the only TRUE method for finishing off an opponent ^o^ (CHECK)
*One juicy, rare steak (You'll need to provide that yourself!)

Rambo movies are about one thing and one thing only... mindless violence... and boy do they deliver! Do a search for "Rambo Kill Count" on the internet and you'll get the idea. There is a deeper "plot" mixed in between Rambo dishing out his own personal brand of justice (especially in the 1st one), but it's hardly worth focusing on.

Regarding the picture/sound quality on Blu-ray.. considering the source materials, these versions are noticeable upgrades compared to the grainy DVD versions...Colors really "pop" in the jungle scenes, in particular. Audio is a bit above average, as well. These movies aren't going to look or sound much better than do on Blu-ray. You won't be disappointed.

Don't forget the steak, though ;-)

(Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D)
『After watching this movie in 3D, I doubt I would purchase another 3D DVD as I found the 3D effect would sometimes disappear if I moved my head slightly. The 3D effect didn't work as well as I had expected. The movie itself was fun to watch. My suggestion would be to watch the 2D version.』

(Fraser's continued downward spiral.)
『First The Mummy 3 and now this atrocity.
Is Fraser even bothering to read the script before he accepts a role?
My guess would be no.

I'll make this short and sweet.
I never saw the film in the theater which if I believe the majority of people on Amazon....the theater version was pretty awesome.
Now, I remember the stupid 3d glasses from when I was a kid and I was really expecting the home version to be a step up from what I had as a kid.
Right?
WRONG!!!
The same old blue/red.
Magneta/green.........WHAT EVER!!!
It still doesn't work and considering I had already had "a few", the glasses came off after ten minutes.
I thought I was going to barf.
So then I flipped the disc and watched the regular version.
Yawn,boring, etc....

The story is boring and mediocre at best.
The kid is annoying.
Fraser is annoying.
The stupid blond is annoying.

The fx are pathetic. The T-Rex doesn't even look as good as the one from Jurassic Park, and HOW long ago was that movie made?
With a budget this big there's no excuse for sloppy fx but sadly that's all we got with this movie.

Let's get back to the story, LOL sorry.....what story.
Fraser and Co. fall through ground, get chased by big dino thingys, shed a few well placed tears here and there and go home.
Yippee!!!

The acting was....ok.
Fraser continues to scream his lines for reasons that defy logic.
Like I said the kid was an obnoxious, mouthy brat.
The blond tour guide was of course only there because every good adventure needs a third wheel, brain, sexy blond for the main character to go ga ga over and rescue five thousand times.

So what was good?
Um......it's watchable.
It's just really and I mean REALLY DULL!!!
Other reviewers have stated that the whole movie was done to show off what they can do with 3d in the theaters.
I have to agree.
Too bad they can't do the same with home use.

Do I recommend this movie?
For jaded, action vets?
Probably not.
For kids who won't know any better?
Probably not, aren't our kids being dummied down enough by our public school system?
Why add even more nonsense to their heads.
Two stars for a boring but watchable Fraser scream fest.』

Journey to the Center of the Earth 3Dis full of whizz-bang demonstrations of how far 3D technology has come--trilobite antennae quivering towards the audience, a T-rex lunging out of the frame, even affable star Brendan Fraser spitting on us--as well as a half-dozen action sequences clearly destined to become videogames or theme park rides. The plot is incidental: When a seismic geologist (Fraser) discovers his lost brother's notes in a copy of the titular Jules Verne novel, he and his nephew (Josh Hutcherson,Bridge to Terabithia,Zathura) head to Iceland. There, joined by a fetching mountain guide (played by Icelandic actress Anita Briem), they get trapped in a cavern and go down, down, down, finally arriving in a primeval underworld full of prehistoric beasts and carnivorous plants. It would be pointless to complain about the empty-headedness of it all;Journey to the Center of the Earth 3Daspires to be a kinesthetic experience. It wants to engage your adrenal glands, not your brain or your heart (the dialogue and characters are so generic, the script may have been cut-and-pasted from previous versions of Verne's book). Fraser, with his goofy handsomeness and accessible presence, provides a reasonably human axis around which all the frantic flying and swooping CGI effects revolve. The movie is as hollow as the world it depicts, but as mindless action movies go, you could do a lot worse.--Bret Fetzer

(WHAT HAPPENED????!!!!!!!)
『I felt the show was lacking compared to the other seaons.
It just felt different.
And WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT SEASON FINALE ALL ABOUT???!!!
It was completely out of order. They never showed how Dr Cox's baby was after the surgery. WHY was Dr Kelso still there when he retired 2 episode before? How can the almost kiss btwn JD and Elliot mean nothing when just the episode before Elliot was bonding with JD and his baby? Did the patient die or not??

I mean the last episode was hilarious as usual but I so hope season 8 ties the loose ends if there is one or at least make a movie to tie up the loose ends.

Just not satisfied.』

(Excellent as always, but...)
『Excellent as always!!! But very disappointing that the season was cut so short. The episodes are still hilarious, except for the last one (which was not in the correct order). That one was just bizarre. But still very much worth buying.』

(Got to throw in my "angry" review)
『NBC really, really screwed up on season 7. Seemed like the episodes were on at random times, and never 2 weeks in a row.

Also, the season 7 episodes were all over the place, a couple of them were even BAD.

Then there's the "finale". What a piece of garbage that was.

And this is coming from a loooooooong time Scrubs fan who owns Season 1-6 on DVD.

I refuse to buy the heavily-messed-up season 7 on DVD unless ABC brings Scrubs back and gets it back on track. If season 8 is actually released and they fix what NBC broke so badly, I'll re-consider the $20 for 7.

(Loyal - short or long)
『Season seven is just fine. Sure, it is short, but the quality of the cast is still there. Under the circumstances (the strike), the show is still just as funny as ever. The cast is till doing 'their thing'. It is like any good relationship...you stick it out...good and bad. I'll keep watching. Thank goodness for DVD's.』

(The show that wouldn't end.)
『Scrubs: The Complete Seventh Season is extremely short due to the writer's strike last year and the fact that NBC treated this show unfairly, this was supposed to be the final season of this muchly-ignored show and the network wouldn't let this darkhorse have a proper send-off. Luckily, ABC has picked up the show for mid-season and the loyal viewers will get a chance to say farewell to these goofy characters that has kept us entertained for seven years. Season 7 didn't get the royal treatment, barely any episodes but this season was just as good, I highly recommend it!』
『With its deft combination of humor and heart, this single-camera sitcom is a both a critical and cult favorite. Scrubs stars Zach Braff as J.D., an eager doctor at Sacred Heart Hospital. With J.D. as its narrator, the show frequently dips into surrealism as it shows his strange thoughts and daydreams. The rest of the characters on Scrubs are equally eccentric: best friend Turk (Donald Faison), bossy nurse Carla (Judy Reyes), J.D.'s reluctant mentor Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley), the anxiety-ridden ex-girlfriend Elliot (Sarah Chalke), and J.D.'s arch nemesis, known simply as 'Janitor' (Neil Flynn). This set contains all episodes from season seven of this popular series.』

(WHAT HAPPENED?)
『BONES was a good show. good chartures and story lines. the first two seasons were rather good.

this third season is, however, a great disapointment and Ive decided to stop watching the show as a result.

for one thing I disliked what happened with Zack. I rather liked the charture and they up and change him and screw up his charture.

I was VERY disatisfied with what happened to Zack.

I was displeased with what happened to Angela and Hogins. they go through a whole lot and after all that they end up breaking up just because of one fight.

so all in all im very upset with this series because of what happened in this season.

im upset that Zack, a charture I liked is turned into a bad guy
im annoyed that the charture is changed and in a way that makes no sense whatso ever.
im disapoined that the hogens and angela relationship ended the way it did.

these disapointments have left me disastisfyed with the series as a whole
and I just dont feel interested in the series any more and have deceided to stop watching it.

(Make no bones about it, the third season is a keeper and includes 4 bonus episodes from season 4)
『The third season of "Bones" was even more compelling than the first. Although it was a shorter season due to the Writer's Strike (15 episodes), Fox has elected to include four seasons from the fourth season (which may have been why the set was deleted)as compensation. During the fourth we had a number of marvelous episodes but the story arc involving the cannibal serial killer Gormogon dominated most of the season.

Two excellent episodes are expanded on this set with an unaired version of "Player Under Pressure" and the Holiday episode "The Santa in the Slush" has an "extended kiss" scene. While the latter isn't any big deal the former for "Player Under Pressure" improves an already exceptional episode.

We also get the gag reel which is fun, a featurette "Director's Take" (which I haven't gotten around to watching yet--I tend to watch all the extras AFTER I've watched the episodes to prevent spoilers). While the extras aren't quite as generous as previous seasons, at least Fox isn't recycling the same idea (i.e., commentary tracks--although I like them--a lot of folks never listen to them and they are dependent on how engaging the people involved with them are). The episodes from season four while we'll get them again, are a nice way to fill out the set and keep fans in anticipation for the next set which will come out about the same time next year.

All in all an excellent season that was unfortunately cut short by the Writer's Strike. While the retail price is a bit high (look for bargains folks and snag them while you can!), the extras included here makes up for some of that.

(ALL BONES ABOUT IT)
『Once more DVD comes to the rescue of a TV series that has turned from so so ratings to solid hit. The series is BONES and there is no better way to watch this than on DVD. Why? Because once you get into the series you'll want to continue on rather than wait for the next episode.

Just released is BONES SEASON THREE: TOTALLY DECOMPOSED EDITION. How can it be that this show has been on that long already? For those unfamiliar with the show its time to catch up.

Based on the real life of forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs, the story revolves around Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel), a forensic specialist who works at the Jeffersonian in Washington, D.C. When the FBI comes calling for assistance in the form of Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz), Temperance takes to field work like a pro with an intense interest in each case presented.

Along with Temperance, known as Bones to Booth, are a team of equally dedicated professionals at the Institute. Among them are Angela (Michaela Conlin) who specializes in facial and body reconstruction via sketches and computer software, Dr. Jack Hodgins (TJ Thynes) who specializes in organic materials and Dr. Zack Addy (Eric Milligan) who knows more about bones than, well, Bones. Each member of the team adds to a complete whole not only in their expertise but in their character functions as well.

For the first two seasons we were allowed to explore the world of the "squints", Booth's nickname for the intelligent research team at the Institute. But as the show continued, we watched as Booth came to appreciate each individual in their own way. We also watched the sexual tension between Booth and Bones grow in the most subtle of ways as they worked case after case together.

There you have it, the main crux of the series. But it's more than that. It involves cases being solved using clues found only by this team of forensic anthropologists. Each week they discover clues no mere mortal would find with the naked eye. And each week Booth and Bones have the chance to put the guilty behind bars. At the same time we get to watch the interplay between the characters as well.

What you have here is a combination of age old detective show combined with the technological side shown in the various CSI series. But rather than focus mainly on the science of evidence we get that as well as interaction between characters in more familiar TV territory. Romance and buddy systems are seen in each episode as opposed to straight police work.

This brings us to season three. This time around we begin with Bones acting unlike herself. Could it be because Booth sent her father to prison at the end of last season? Could it be the attraction between Bones and Booth became too much? Or could it be because Zack had decided to take a leave and head out to work in Iraq? Just as the stories offer clues to the murders, the series offers clues and at times answers to these questions.

As the season starts we find Hodgins and Angela still very much in love, still planning on marrying and still searching for the man who was a one night stand Angela married in a drunken stupor. This was an arc left open from season two that finds an answer this year.

Zack returns from Iraq a bit different. Fortunately for fans of the series (and Zack) he shows up in the first episode, just in time to save the day and help find the criminal.

Bones and Booth start off not nearly as close as before. Whichever of the reasons discussed that seem to have had an effect on Bones is clearly visible from the first minutes of episode one. And as the pair start to work things out, they begin therapy to help with their work.

The first show offers a new challenge for viewers and the team as they encounter a secret cannibalistic society that has left their calling card. While the Gormogon killer may not be a familiar name to most, it will be by the end of this season. Not only are the guilty not found by shows end but they continue to show up during the season.

A more in depth view of Bones sex life is offered as well (no, not seen) as we begin to meet the men she dates. This seems to upset Booth who does his best to hide it. The affection between these two characters may be more blatant than Scully and Mulder of X FILES but it is still held in check for the present.

Humor, mystery, relationships and friendship are all regular topics in each episode of the series. And Season Three brings forth more of the human characteristics of each member of the forensic family found here. It is these human qualities and interaction between characters that makes this show the success that it is. While Bones comes off as cold and out of touch with the world around her, Seely comes off as having lived more than his years would seem. Put these two together and you come up with one of the most successful teams since Nick and Nora Charles.

Extended episodes, alternate episodes and more make this box set worth adding to your collection. And if you don't have them already, buy the first two as well.

This is a fresh series with great acting that makes the entire production believable. And that is what makes for good TV. And good TV now means good DVDs. Take a 3 day weekend or the holidays to get acquainted with the Bones family. It's a great mystery filled time for all.

(Pissed Off Writers)
『Given the attrocious writing that ruined Bones' Season 3 for me, the only thing that makes sense is that we had a bunched of pissed off writers before the strike and the same group of pissed off writers who obviously didn't get what they wanted as a result of the strike. I just wish that they hadn't taken their anger and frustration out in destroying all of the good work they did in Season 1 and 2.』

(We love not having to be patient through commercials....)
『Just as good as previous seasons - we will watch it over and over again, just like we do CSI, and SVU, etc. etc. etc.』

(Nancy is not a good person)
『It's amazing, I guess the writers figured by episode 8 that the Peter Scottson character was too like-able and elicited too much sympathy that the writers intentionally wrote him in to be a racist and vindictive on the fly. It wasn't cool and didn't flow well. I supposed they miscast him with Martin Donovan from the start, an inherently like-able actor. It was about episode 8 that I wanted something very bad to happen to Nancy and her entire sanctimonious and whiny family. None of them are good people and they seem less interesting because of it.』

(Terrific second season)
『The conceit of "Weeds" (suburban mom turns to selling pot) seems like it would be difficult to sustain over time. Fortunately, the second season of "Weeds" pulls it off successfully by being funny but also keeping to the original theme. As the season opens, Nancy decides to end her relationship with Peter when she discovers that he is a DEA agent; he seems oblivious to the fact that she's a drug dealer, but this relationship will continue to haunt her throughout the season. Another character, Celia, undergoes a transformation after she has a minor car accident and decides to run for city council to unseat the pot-smoking Doug. The other major plot involves Nancy and Conrad going into business together.

Season 2 of "Weeds" is as good as season 1, with the addition of more scares for Nancy. It turns out that selling drugs in the suburbs isn't as safe or clean as she envisioned. These changes help make the series more believable; however, the show starts to go slightly off the rails toward the end of the season, as more and more forces press on Nancy. The season ends in an exciting cliffhanger, which is funny although out of character for the series.

On the down side, the most annoying character, Nancy's brother-in-law Andy, continues to get too much screen time, including an annoying draft-dodging subplot. I'm sure his pot-fueled irresponsibility appeals to some viewers, but I find him irritating and unfunny. Fortunately, some of the more enjoyable characters (e.g., Conrad and Heylia) get some nice new twists, which helps balance out the season. Overall, "Weeds" continues to be a funny, addictive series; looking forward to catching up with season 3 on DVD.

(Best Season So Far!)
『This season is the best so far and near perfect! It has all the elements of a good dramedy - crazy situations, romance, out and out comedy and a really interesting story. The most intriguing is the budding romance between Nancy and Conrad while the one with her DEA agent boyfriend steadily falls apart. It becomes pretty apparent he isn't a nice guy but Conrad is. Cecila becomes a city councilwoman and Doug hates her and has sex with her. Isabelle becomes a clothes model for Huskaroo and Nancy's boys become more involved in the drug business. The story line is rich in other ways too. So far this season is the best but the 4th season isn't too shabby either. Near perfect show.』

(Even Better Than Season One)
『I could resort to an "addicted" pun or throw in some sly jokes about dealing out as much laughs as Nancy does weed, etcetera, etcetera. But when it comes down to this, the best way to talk about the second season of Weeds isn't marijuana puns, it's the simple truth. This is a strong season of what was already a damn good show. The writers pretty much took everything that worked about the first season and made it better. They took risks, which in itself is a special thing in television, and each of those risks paid off in the end.

The status quo of the show changes, because Nancy graduates from small time dealer to a big wig grower/supplier, which leads to tension between her and... well, pretty much everyone. The show manages to keep a healthy balance of drama and comedy while juggling the many on-going arcs of the series. Each short episode in this collection is so textured and so crammed full of little moments of greatness that the season could probably be watched in one season.

I said it about the first season, and I'll say it again here. From the acting, to the music (different artist performing the theme song each time now), to the direction, to the writing, this is a seamless show that is among the best series currently airing.

9/10』

(A great show)
『This is a great show. It's primarily a comedy, but has great drama and some occassional action threaded in. I Have the first 2 seasons now and have watched both twice. Laughed my head off. As I will when i watch it again!

Has great writing and acting. Buy it! It's cheap for a series and excellent replay value!』

『Funnier, darker and more daring, the second season of this acclaimed Showtime series reaches a higher ground. Golden Globe winner Mary-Louise Parker stars as Nancy Botwin, the soccer mom who had to learn how to deal - pot, that is - after the death of her husband. Now, her business is a hit. But keeping up with the neighbors in this suburban utopia isn't easy. She's joined up with a few of her closest friends, and together they're facing life's highs and lows - because even in paradise, nobody's perfect. Don't miss WEEDS, an addictive comedy, the highest grade TV has to offer.』
『The first season ofWeedsended with a shocker: Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker) found a dreamy new boyfriend, but he turned out to be a DEA agent (Martin Donovan). Luckily, she manages to find some pretty creative ways to "deal" with it. Despite that new obstacle, she decides it’s also time to "grow" the business to higher levels, and all these risky moves lead up to another fabulous season finale cliff-hanger. Elsewhere in suburban utopia, comic relieving brother-in-law Andy (Justin Kirk) tries to dodge his army commitments by joining Rabbi school, while the hilarious Doug (Kevin Nealon) battles it out with Celia (Elizabeth Perkins) to maintain power over the Agrestic City Council. Plot aside, Season 2 ofWeedstook this potentially great show to the next level. No matter how hard they tried in the first season, the show’s makers had a heck of a time trying to shake the impression that they were mimicking the edginess of HBO’s original programming. (Some might have gone as far as to say they were trying a little too hard.) This time around, the characters and the story have grown into their own skins, and theyoffer something much more authentic and convincing. The second season also starts a great new tradition: Malvina Reynolds ‘s "Little Boxes" is still the opening theme song, but it is performed by a different artist for each episode (from Elvis Costello to The Shins). Just one more thing to keep us"addicted." --Jordan Thompson
