(G'day!)
『Stunning pictue quality on Blu-Ray. It was simply amazing using my Panasonic High Definition projector, blown up to 106" diagonal. However, like many otherwise fine documentaries (ie Plant Earth), it sometimes lingers far too long on one subject. Personally, I can only handle so much sheep shearing or aboriginal dancing. "Keep the action moving" should be the rule in these types of documentaries.』

(Discovery Atlas: Australia revealed)
『This is a true work of cinematic art. I saw my own country in a new light. Fabulous. Made me home sick for the simple life. If your planning a trip to Australia any time soon........this is a must see. As we aussie's say....G'DAY MATE. and welcome home.』

(Horrible Narrator)
『Guys, dont waste your time with this video. I have China, Brasil and Italy Discovery Channel and BY FAR...this is the worst one (I highly recommend the others!)

Basically you can't hear the narrator. Crowe's voice is TOO low and its impossible to listen too. My girlfriend asked to turn on the "subtitle" function because it was sooo bad.....we both fell asleep within 10 mins. (Its doesnt support subtitle features)

Again, don't purchase this series (Australia). HORRIBLE AUDIO!

(Amazing. Simply Amazing.)
『It is a shame that there are people who don't bother to READ what these documentaries are about BEFORE they buy them and are disappointed.

The oft-stated aim of Discovery Atlas is not a history lesson ... it is a unique look at countries through the eyes and personal stories of a select group of individuals.

What better ways to learn the true feelings and emotions than by this manner.

Exquisitely shot, wonderfully narrated, these videos provide a unique look into each of these nations that one would not otherwise EVER be party to.』

(Good images boring story)
『I bought the Italy, China and Ausatralia ATLAS from discovery. This one is kind of boring. I think the stories told are very weak. Anyway it shows good images in HD. The other two are much better.』
『Discover the world, one person at a time…Discovery Atlas! Take an epic adventure with intimate insight into the big, bold and tenacious country of Australia. Step into one of the world's oldest cultures, drive the world's biggest trucks and join a cattle roundup on the world's largest ranch on one of the earth's youngest nations. Spanning over 4 million miles with over 22,000 miles of coastline, Australia is a captivating mix of desolation and riches, from the harsh life of the outback to the welcoming, fertile lands of its coastline. Deeply rooted to the land that offers them so much, Australians are survivors as they've faced some of the driest conditions worldwide. Hear the stories of its spirited people, including Aboriginal performers who trace their ancestry back to the land, a lifesaver who can't imagine an existence without the ocean and a jillaroo who could never be fenced in.』

(A humble tribute to the bonds forged through music)
『In our cynical age, it somehow seems especially creative, even courageous, to make a film that is not about corruption, ennui, ulterior motives, dysfunctional social structures, or tragic flaws. Once is a film that is refreshing in its earnestness and in its respect for the things that add meaning and beauty to our lives.

I'm not a musician, but I once aspired to be one. And if I have one pet peeve about film generally, it's how film often disrespects music. It's often treated as a subordinate art, mixed in to add a little punch to the main event, the dramatic narrative. So many films use music carelessly.

Not this film. This is a film whose central focus is the way that music forges bonds between people; how music enables us to express our feelings, and not only to better understand but to care about others; and how music is sometimes the most beautiful thing available to grab hold of.

This film reminded me of a conversation I once had with a friend, in which we concluded that for almost every person's romantic moments, music is somehow involved. Maybe it's a song you've danced to together, or heard together during a special sharing moment. Maybe it's simply music that you listened to privately to work through intense feelings. All in all, I'd wager that few of us have ever fallen in love without music being a big part of the picture.

This film is essentially a musical - but it's not like any other musical I've seen. It's not a film that asks you to shift back and forth between plausible dramatic action and wholly implausible musical production numbers. Instead, in this film, the music is central to the action; the characters are making music together, and every piece of music performed in the film is in a context where you fully believe those characters might make music together in that way. I can't think of another film where the music seemed to matter so much to the characters.

We are so conditioned in our culture to indulge our societal ADD at the expense of respecting music and its uplifting power. Thus, when I first watched this film, I was initially feeling like, "OK, enough of this song, time to cut to something else," - as if sitting through an entire piece of music was more than a film could ask of me. But unless a film does this, it can never fully convey the sense of the joy of making music, and how it brings you closer to other people. The film shows people experiencing this in all its fullness, a special, deeply human experience worth celebrating.

In a lesser film, the film's studio scene would involve some kind of subplot during the performance - furtive glances, repressed conflicts, other dramatic elements - it's all too easy to imagine. Here the only focus of the scene is the shared satisfaction of making the music itself. Similarly, a dinner party depicted in the film is significant chiefly for the music that people share during it.

The film is shot in a very natural, unobtrusive style; you often feel as though you are just a fly on the wall, whether it's in a repair shop or an apartment.

OK, a small confession: the music in this film isn't really my cup of tea. It's more repetitive than I would like, especially so in the lyrics. And I have an issue with music that is too persistently emotive. I can deal with a song building to a pitch of emotionalism, but the songs in this film tried to sustain that high pitch more than is my personal taste. But I say this not to criticize the film; it's simply to say that you can enjoy and respect this film even if this isn't your favorite musical genre. And, I must say, there is no denying that the protagonists do produce some harmonies that are genuinely, hauntingly lovely. Favorite genre or no, there is some truly beautiful music here.

Another thing I appreciated about this film is that it felt no need to create contrived situations, black hats, or exaggerated conflicts. The characters are real people, dealing with plausible issues - heartbreak, loneliness, parental responsibility, regret, money problems, frustrated hopes - which the film doesn't overplay. It just shows men and women using music to work out the feelings that arise in their lives. And, it should be said, the music enables the viewer to feel some of the emotion, too. I saw some moist eyes at film's end.

I'm uncertain how much to recommend this film to my friends; it's certainly not Citizen Kane. I am afraid that one of them would put it in the DVD player, decide the music was too plaintive, and start rolling their eyes. For me, though, it all pulsed with sincerity, and I appreciated that feeling.

Music is one of the most precious enrichments of the human experience. This film respects that, and honors it.

(Absolutely fantastic film.)
『I won't waste time or space going into why and I don't want to give anything away by explaining anything. It is a great, great film. Five stars. That is all.』

(One of the best indie movies ever)
『If you love music, like indie films and/or maybe just like accents of people from European countries, this movie will surely blow you away. Story line is great, the music is even better and for people who never did acting before, they did quite well in this movie. Buy it and I promise you that you won't regret it or at least check it out first somehow but it's worth owning.』

(A realistic romance)
『This is an extraordinary movie, full of small moments and a sweet sense of promise. It manages to convey the growing attraction between the two main characters without delving into the bag of Hollywood cliches. The relationship that develops is realistically complicated, and doesn't take the shopworn path to a happy ending.

The music is also fantastic, and all the more appealing because it was written and performed by the principal players, not in bombastic musical-theater style, but organically within the course of the story.

It's a beautiful film that will stick with you and hold up to repeat viewing.』

(Excellent Movie)
『My husband and I happened to stumble on to this movie. We first heard about it from some award show (maybe the Emmy's) last year. This movie won best song and when they accepted their award we noticed first because of their heavy irish accent, but also becasue they were so genuinely excited about it! So once we saw it come on one of the movie channels we had to watch it. We were both so moved how amazing this movie was for it's simplicity, love and heartache the main character portrays, and wonderful music. It even brought me to tears at one point. I think if you have ever loved someone and had a bad breakup or just even missed that person you will relate to this movie. It's really great, I'm telling you. We had to buy the movie and the soundtrack and add it to our collection. Totally recommend it :)』

『Winner of the World Audience Award at Sundance, Once starts out as a small-scale romance, like Before Sunrise, before arriving somewhere unexpected. An Irish busker (Glen Hansard, theFramesandThe Commitments) meets a Czech flower seller (Markéta Irglová) while singing on the streets of Dublin. (In the credits, they're listed as Guy and Girl.) She likes what she hears and lets him know. Turns out she's a musician, too. They work on a few songs together and a friendship is forged. She lives with her widowed mother, who doesn't speak English. He lives with his widowed father, who owns a repair shop. Since he broke up with his girlfriend, the guy has been drifting, unable and unwilling to get his life in order. The girl encourages him to pursue a record deal, and the guy emerges from his funk. Then he makes a move on the girl, who rejects his advances. He's confused, but as he comes to find, there's a reason she’s keeping her distance. ThoughOnceis filled with appealing folk-pop by Hansard and Irglová (released on CD asThe Swell Season), the movie isn't a traditional musical, but rather a more optimisticBrief Encounter. Filmmaker John Carney, Hansard's former bandmate, captures the real city--in all its affluence and poverty--rather than the picture postcard version. His beautifully shot film serves as a heartfelt ballad about all the underclass Guys and Girls swept aside amidst Ireland's economic miracle. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Her television series is so funny and I am proud to say I own them , but I became sad when I learned it was going off the air. There wasnt a character that could not have been on the show, without them all it was not the same. I feel that Reba did a great job raising her children as a single parent, or atleast she did the best she could. I think us moms always feel that way or atleast I do. I did the best I could with what I had. I loved Joanna Garcia and looking for other stuff she has done. Reba gives such great performances on stage whether she is singing or acting. (Lavish, Entertaining Period Drama)
『"The Duchess" is a wonderful costume drama based on the life of Princess Diana's ancestor Georgiana, the Duchess of Devonshire, who was celebrated and scandalous in her time, which was late 18th century England.

Georgiana was given in an arranged marriage to the Duke of Devonshire (a wonderful performance by Ralph Fiennes), who had only met her twice previously. The Duke is desperate for a male heir, and soon, Georgiana soon finds herself in a loveless marriage and the mother of three girls - two born of Georgiana and one born of a maid who had an affair with Devonshire. Even after bearing the indignities of her husband constant affairs, Georgiana becomes a darling of English society, known for her fashion sense, political activism, and love of gambling.

But Georgiana draws the line, or tries to draw the line, when Devonshire takes a live-in lover and her three children. She eventually begins an affair with a young politician that threatens her way of life.

The film paints an appropriately bleak picture of what it was like for a woman in those days. Georgiana is a beautiful, intelligent, and charming young woman whose only hope in life is that she happens to marry someone who loves her and will treat her like a human being. As it turns out, Devonshire becomes increasingly unlikeable as he expects Georgiana to abide by his affairs, then sit in silence as he keeps another woman and her children under their roof, and not just any woman, but one that had become a good friend of Georgiana.

The movie is beautifully filmed and the performances are very good. The story tells a compelling story of a woman trapped by her times and circumstances and forced to make terrible choices.』

(The Greater Expectations)
『Unfortunately for this movie, far too many reviews were put out about it from people who went into the movie with certain expectations..And they felt let down. If you watch this movie, not expecting aliens, conspiracies etc, and just watch it and let the story unfold--it makes for a GREAT X-files story. I walked out of the theatre just wanting another new episode next week. It had a good story, it was nice and dark--Back to the original first few seasons Vancouver style of dark and gloomy, not the LA version..The acting was great, and within minutes you fall back into what the real relationship behind Mulder and Scully were. I won't go into another big long review of the movie..I'm just suggesting that you go in there, and watch it..Don't go in expecting to see something in particular. And then watch it again. Trust me, if no one else :P』

(It is a throwback)
『It is very much like the early episodes of the show but that is the problem. This is the big screen and deserves a bigger and better story. I didnt hate it but it was far from what I expected, especially after the excellent Fight the Future.
My guess is the production costs were cut down a lot and they had to make due. Only a guess.
A solid rental but not one I will be buying.』

(A throwback to the earlier seasons of the show.)
『Here's where I stand on THE X-FILES: I was a fan of the show for the first couple of seasons when every episode was different (remember the Jersey Devil episode and the one about the deformed redneck family?) and before it got really heavy into the same continuous storyline, and I saw the first X-FILES movie a couple of times when it first came out but it's been so long that I barely remember it. So I did enjoy the show, however I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore fan and I wouldn't go so far as to say that this was a highly anticipated movie for me. So, with that out of the way...

In THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE, Mulder (David Duchovny) is living in seclusion and Scully (Gillian Anderson) is now a doctor. They are reunited when the FBI seeks them out for help to find a fellow agent who has gone missing. Mulder and Scully, along with the help of the FBI (with the two primary agents being portrayed by Amanda Peet and rapper Xzibit) and a goofy psychic named Father Joe (portrayed by Billy Connolly), eventually find clues that lead them to something gruesome and disturbing.

Throughout the movie there is a subplot where Scully is going through an ordeal at the hospital she works at involving a sick child who she is trying to save, the child's family, and the "powers that be" of the hospital who refuse to offer any further treatment for the child due to the fact that he suffers from an incurable disease. For most of the FBI investigation, Scully is absent and is faced with the dilemma of going through a radical medical procedure (stem cell) which may or may not help the child but will surely cause him a lot of pain. And then there's the Father Joe character who, while somewhat annoying at first, ultimately won me over due to actor Billy Connolly's charm. Father Joe is interesting in that he has a haunting past and is judged because of it, claims that God talks to him and gives him these psychic visions, and no one believes him except for Mulder.

Overall I enjoyed this film a lot! I really had no desire to see it, and actually decided to watch it just to see Xzibit in a "serious role". This film surprised me and kept my interest throughout. The entire film was definitely a throwback to the first seasons of the show in which they had the whole "Monster of the Week" thing going on which I mentioned earlier. It's basically a standalone Sci-Fi/Thriller with elements of Horror. The chemistry between Duchovny and Anderson is awesome and it's always great to see them back together on screen. Amanda Peet and Xzibit were both pretty good in their roles. It's sort of hinted in the movie that Peet's character has a thing for Mulder, but it never really goes anywhere for reasons I can't really talk about without ruining the movie. Xzibit was more of a background guy who didn't say a whole lot, who's character had a thick exterior to contrast Peet's more easy-going demeanor. And of course Connolly was great as always.

Another thing that I loved about the movie was the Cinematography. It was filmed in Canada during the winter and the snowy scenery and photography in the film was gorgeous. There aren't really any bad things about the movie that I can really think of. The lack of a major villain was a bit disappointing, but the twist at the end more than makes up for it. Obviously I won't say what the twist is, but it most definitely treads the waters of the Horror genre. Also the film isn't really as epic as a TV show-turned-feature length film should be and seemed like it could have been a longer version of a TV episode. Other than that, it was great. Entertaining, great cast, great acting, beautiful Cinematography, great music, nostalgia, and a twist that will satisfy Horror fans. There's also a little something special during the closing credits (with two songs provided by U.N.K.L.E. including a remix of the X-FILES theme) which is kind of cheesy but is still pretty cool to watch.

I've only seen the 1-Disc Version of the DVD so far and the Extra Features are OK. It has a great Commentary track by writer/director Chris Carter and writer Frank Spotnitz. There is also a ten minute Gag Reel, which by the looks of it the cast had a blast making the film. Overall, it's a great film and I would definitely recommend it.

4 stars』

(THE CASE OF THE MISSING AGENT)
『I got a glimpse ahead of time when a retailer accidently had this
movie out on it's shelves. The single disc pkg. pictured above contains
both the theater and directors' cuts of the movie! This is a great bonus
for all X-Files fans.

The movie is decent, but I was left wanting more. Since it has been
so many years since a show/movie was seen. Mulder is a recluse living
off by himself, reminding you of a discarded old school agent who
stepped on too many toes at the F.B.I. A current agent reaches out to
him for help. One of her own is missing with very little clues to go on.
A limb has been found but there is no body, a psychic may know of her
where abouts. Is the psychic for real? Agent Mulder is brought in to
see if he is for real. Fox then reaches out for Agent Scully, "Scully I
need you on this one!"

M.D. Scully has been working at a Catholic hospital where she appears
to be working on neuro patients. She agrees to meet w/Mulder and the
chase is on. This turns out to be a serial killer case with a few
twists. The ending is interesting in development, a comment on science
and research. Mulder places himself in danger - seeking the truth.
Scully saves the day, while a former priest/psychic seeks salvation.』

(A worthwhile endeavor for fans of the show)
『It's been a long time since The X-Files came to an end, and even longer since the release of the first feature film (1998's X-Files: Fight the Future). Maybe that's why I had a good degree of surprise when I heard about creator Chris Carter getting things together for another X-Files film, and even more so when I learned that it would be more akin to the classic, stand-alone episodes that helped define what made the series so great to begin with. Despite many of the negative reviews that it received, The X-Files: I Want to Believe is a worthwhile endeavor for fans of the show, and while not perfect by any means, still manages to satisfy. The film picks up with Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) apart and out of the FBI, until both are drawn back in with a case involving a former priest (Billy Connolly) who claims to have visions when an Agent goes missing under mysterious circumstances. There's no conspiracy abound, just a plot involving some horrific science gone wrong and belief, and the film is all the better for it. The usual cast of X-Files alums aren't present sadly, but Mitch Pileggi does return briefly as FBI director Skinner, and Amanda Peet and rapper Xzibit are on board as the FBI Agents that being Mulder and Scully into the fold. All in all, The X-Files: I Want to Believe is an enjoyable film that is a worthwhile trip for lovers of the show, and just seeing Mulder and Scully together again makes it essential viewing alone.』
『The feature filmThe X-Files: I Want to Believeis a satisfying if unspectacular installment in theX-Filesseries, taking place an unspecified time after the show's nine-year television run. Former agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) is now a doctor, while Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) is being hunted by his former agency and living in seclusion. He and Scully are summoned back by a case involving a missing agent and a former priest (Billy Connolly) who claims to be able to see clues to the agent's whereabouts psychically, though his initial search turns up only a severed limb. Don't expect the usual cast of characters; the FBI has completely turned over (except for the George W. Bush portrait), and the only reason Scully and Mulder are back is because agent Dakota Whitney (Amanda Peet) remembers his success on similar cases involving the unexplainable. Don't expect the same rogues' gallery either; unlike the previousX-Filesfeature film, which was inextricably linked to the series' convoluted mythology arc (and served as a bridge between the fifth and sixth seasons),I Want to Believeis a stand-alone piece that makes use of the series' roots in horror/sci-fi and moody Vancouver, B.C., locales. Also unlike the previous film, which was almost self-consciously shot for the big screen, this film is on a smaller scale, like a double-length episode of the series. But it's still a good reminder of the creepy vibe that hooked fans for years. And the relationship between Mulder and Scully? It seems to have resumed pretty much where it left off, at least when you take into account the long period of separation. But stick around for the end-credit sequence to take in all the possibilities for the future.--David Horiuchi

『a decent drama from hallmark. Chad lowe plays a very self centered man thrown a curve in life that makes him have a choice to make. I can recommend this movie for the whole family. He is put in charge of his nephew who in turns teaches him that there is more to life than a career and himself.』

all that autistic. An average Lifetime type movie. A happy tear-jerking ending of course. I wouldn't object if it was done in a believ-

『It is not often you get to see in real life how we really have a choice in how we grow. Fielder's Choice shows a man begin to learn what it means to share life. When his young nephew is thrown into life after losing his mom in a car accident Fielder is left with choice whether or not to take in this boy as his own.
As the kid grows on him it is nice to see how he opens up to the world around him. Speaking as a native Californian I know how difficult it is to open up to the world around me because out here people are so isolated; perhaps they live here because of the isolation and they prefer their lives that way.
Despite this Fielder in the end comes around and makes the right choice but not because the rest of the world thought it was right and not because his nephew needed him but because he himself needed to grow.』

(Another Childhood Favorite!!!)
『I've loved this ever since I was a kid. I love the plot, and the direction. It's a classic! Aladdin is a poor kid who lives in the streets of Agrabah who has to steal to eat His friend is a monkey named Abu. Princess Jasmine is being forced to marry, so she runs away. She meets Aladdin and they begin to fall in love. Jafar needs Aladdin to go to the Cave of Wonders to retrieve a lamp. When Aladdin becomes stuck in the cave, he meets the hilarious Genie that dwells within the lamp. Aladdin gets three wishes. When he goes back to Agrabah, everyone thinks he's a prince, with the help of Genie. Jafar gets the lamp, and brings destruction to Agrabah. Aladdin must stop him before it's too late. I highly recommend ALADDIN!!!』

(Great family film)
『Aladdin is among the Disney greats. A good, clean, yet exciting story for the younger audience and still plenty of hilarious references for the adults. The Platinum Edition has great picture and sound quality to match the magical soundtrack. I highly recommend it for people of all ages!』

(Happy with product)
『First time buyer using Amazon. Happy with product packaging and quick delivery of product.』
『Soar away on a magic carpet ride of nonstop thrills and fun in the most spectacular adventure of all time! Now meticulously restored and enhanced -- experience the wonders of ALADDIN like never before, from the Academy Award(R)-winning music (Best Original Song, Best Original Score, 1992) to the unforgettable moments of sidesplitting comedy and soaring adventure. In the heart of an enchanted city, a commoner named Aladdin and his mischievous monkey, Abu, battle to save the free-spirited Princess Jasmine. Aladdin's whole life changes with one rub of a magic lamp as a fun-loving, shape-shifting Genie appears and grants him three wishes, setting him on an incredible journey of discovery. Through his adventures, Aladdin proves that he is a prince where it truly matters most -- on the inside!』
『Disney's 1992 animated feature is a triumph of wit and skill. The high-tech artwork and graphics look great, the characters are strong, the familiar story is nicely augmented with an interesting villain (Jafar, voiced by Jonathan Freeman), and there's an incredible hook atop the whole thing: Robin Williams's frantically hilarious vocal performance as Aladdin's genie. Even if one isn't particularly moved by the love story between the title character (Scott Weinger) and his girlfriend Jasmine (Linda Larkin), you can easily get lost in Williams's improvisational energy and the equally entertaining performances of Freeman and Gilbert Gottfried (as Jafar's parrot).--Tom Keogh
