(0 STARS: This joke of a movie tries to be clever but falls flat on its "face".)
『"Satanic" is about a girl who is involved in a horrible car accident which destroyed her face. As she recovers, a doctor (who must be a magician because no plastic surgeon could have done what he did for this girl) basically recreates this girl's face into a beauty queen's. There are a couple of problems though. First, this girl doesn't remember anything except for the fact that she may have done something horrible before the accident. The viewer is constantly subjected to her stupid flashbacks of her father right before and during the accident.

"Satanic" attempts to be cute with a twist toward the end of the movie which is actually very unsatifying for the pure horror movie fan. This movie leaves with that all too familiar "I wish I hadn't wasted my money on this garbage" feeling. The twist is both illogical and ridiculous! I'm just "SO SCARED" of the villain in this horror movie!! LOL!!

I will not give it away, but the best decision would be not to view this garbage at all as it is a total waste of your time and money. "Satanic" is very pedestrian in scares and has just about zero value as a horror movie. In short, there is nothing scary about "Satanic" except for how much it sucks. "Satanic" is a very forgettable movie-watching experience, at least as far as its merits as a horror movie are concerned.』

(Twisted...)
『This ones a pretty good one. The girl has a wreck and ends up in a hospital and has her face restructured from what was left and was made to look like her friend which vanished from the wreck and later comes to find her newly look a like friend overall its prettyt good.』

(Yet another horror film that fails to live up to its potential)
『Like many a horror fan, I have a special place in my little black heart for actor Jeffrey Combs of Re-Animator fame. You'll notice he gets top billing in Satanic, but don't let that marketing ploy fool you. The fact is that Jeffrey Combs turns up in only three scenes in this film; you can count his onscreen minutes on one hand. I knew that going in (it's sort of an open secret), yet the film seemed to hold potential promise for other reasons - sadly, that potential is, for the most part, wasted in this effort. I liked what the filmmakers tried to do here; the basic idea could have made for an entertaining, even suspenseful film capable of delivering a hammer blow of a final twist. The cast and crew behind Satanic, though, just weren't up to the task.

Annie Sorell (whom many will recognize from the shower scene with her twin sister Alicia in Cruel Intentions 2) plays Michelle, a mixed-up teen recovering from a horrendous automobile accident that took the life of her father. She has no memory of her past, yet she is haunted by increasingly disturbing nightmares. Her doctor, Dr. Barbary (Angus Scrimm) has to reconstruct her seriously injured face from photographs, and I think all will agree he does a super-bang-up job of it. Once the bandages come off, she is moved to Harmony House, a half-way house for problem kids. (The accident seems to have changed her whole personality because she was reportedly quite a rebel in the past.) The place is run by a weird, borderline pervert (Rick Dean) and his - well, I don't want to say she's ugly, so I'll just say she's ferociously unattractive - wife (Diane Goldner). Eliza Swenson seriously heats up the film as Michelle's hot redheaded roommate. In the grip of her worsening nightmares, Michelle comes to the reluctant conclusion that she not only killed someone, she sacrificed her victim as part of some satanic ritual. As you no doubt would expect, death soon comes calling at Harmony House, and the whole series of deadly events leads Michelle ever closer to the truth about her past - a truth which will come as no surprise to virtually anyone paying the least bit of attention to the film.

Some critics have pretty much raked this film over the coals - and not without reason. Making people think Jeffrey Combs plays a significant role in the film is rather dirty pool, some of the acting in the film is not very good, and the story never really comes together in an effective way. All of these things are true, yet I certainly didn't hate this film, nor did I ever finding myself tuning it out. Satanic just never achieves the cohesion it needs to really work. I cared very little for any of the characters (except the sultry redhead, of course) and thus felt almost nothing, least of all suspense, as the movie progressed. The film poses different questions for the viewer to consider, but these essential questions never seem all that important. The killings were quite unsatisfying, usually taking place off-screen and involving minimal amounts of blood, the film features one of the most boring catfight scenes ever filmed, and the ending is just far too predictable. All of the pieces for a good psychological horror film are there; director Dan Golden just couldn't put all of them together effectively in the time allotted.』

(Dumb as dumb can get)
『Annie Sorell (Man of the Year) stars as a young girl named Michelle who has woken up from a car accident in which she doesnt remember what she was doing at the time. She is brought into a home with a group of people where she'll stay for the duration. Soon Michelle finds a book in which she tries to remember what happened during the car accident. Then when things become clear all the pieces come together and Michelle has to stop what's going on since everyone around her starts to die. Can someone say boring? Sorell needs to take acting lessons bad. She gives one pretty empty performance as does everyone else. What a waste of Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator, The Frighteners)....AGAIN!! That goes for Angus Scrimm (Phantasm) too. The end fight scene and hopefully you'll make it to the end is one of the dumbest things you'll ever see. Also starring James Russo, Diane Ayala Goldner (Feast), Brett Erickson (Scarecrow: Resurrection), Alecia Loren (Coyote Ugly) and Eliza Swenson (Candy Stripers).』

(SATAN NEVER SLEEPS)
『SATANIC is ulimately silly and amateurish but it is perversely interesting enough to subdue horror fans who yearn for the days of really good horror movies.
A young girl is in an auto accident and horribly mutilated. Kindly Dr. Angus Scrimm reconstructs her face and she emerges beautiful but with no memory of who she is. She is placed in the youth shelter from hell where she encounters three other troubled teens and is haunted by ghastly visions. James Russo turns up as some kind of hobo and Jeffrey Combs flits in and out as a weary homicide detective. Climaxing in one of the worst fight scenes on screen, the twist is pretty obvious. Not a classic but not a true turkey!』

『Journey into the heart of black magic in this riveting horror-thriller full of edge-of-your seat suspense, startling twists…and dead bodies. Following a car accident, Michelle wakes up with amnesia and bandages over her face. Her nightmares hint that she's done something very bad. Now, as people around her are murdered, she must piece together her past...before it kills her.』

(Klaatu barada nicto!!)
『This classic film is one of my all-time favorites. The image of Gort was the star of many of my childhood nightmares. I fondly remember Sam Jaffe's character, the awestruck Professor wanting to ask Klaatu 'a couple of thousand questions.' Let's hope the remake (12/08) does this version justice.』

(A chance given.)
『.So I was watching the last lines of the movie "The universe grows smaller every day, and the threat of aggression by any group, anywhere, can no longer be tolerated. There must be security for all, or no one is secure. Now, this does not mean giving up any freedom, except the freedom to act irresponsibly"...and I'm thinking OBAMA has landed!』

(Sci-fi at it's best)
『Not a sci-fi movie for todays generation which is a shame. Gore, violence and explosions traded in for acting, atmosphere and great story telling. One of my favorite movies. And as for the "editorial review", Gort didn't destroy Washington. Get it right and get this movie.』

(The Day the Earth Stood Still)
『This is a classic film from the 1950's. The first time I saw it was on the late late show in the mid 50's. I am wondering how the new version will stack up to this giant!』

(A Classic!)
『I remember in the good old days, Saturday Night At The Movies aired this film on TV for the very first time. My family sat riveted to our RCA B&W 21-in. set. I look forward to getting this DVD. A great story line far outweighs any special effects in this movie. Why oh why do the boors in Hollywood persist in trying to redo classic films (War Of The Worlds was totally horrendous compared to the original). I shudder to think what they do to this. I encourage people with minds to get this film.』
『A hallmark of the science fiction genre as well as a wry commentary on the political climate of the 1950s,The Day the Earth Stood Stillis a sci-fi movie less concerned with special effects than with a social parable. A spacecraft lands in Washington, D.C., carrying a humanoid messenger from another world (Michael Rennie) imparting a warning to the people of Earth to cease their violent behavior. But panic ensues as the messenger lands and is shot by a nervous soldier. His large robot companion destroys the Capitol as the messenger escapes the confines of the hospital. He moves in with a family as a boarder and blends into society to observe the full range of the human experience. Director Robert Wise (West Side Story) not only provides one of the most recognizable icons of the science fiction world in his depiction of the massive robot loyal to his master, but he avoids the obvious camp elements of the story to create a quiet and observant story highlighting both the good and the bad in human nature.--Robert Lane

(The Web-Slinger arrives in style!)
『SPIDER-MAN.
Sam Raimi.
Tobey Maguire.

In 2001, when the buzz started building on the new Spidey film due to open in the summer of 2002, the things that piqued my own interest were the two major factors of Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire. Being a big fan of Raimi ever since his EVIL DEAD trilogy, and his having already made a nifty Superhero film in DARKMAN, I thought "ya got the absolute right guy for this one!" And having seen the quality of the work of young Maguire in THE ICE STORM, THE CIDER HOUSE RULES and PLEASANTVILLE, the prospect of a well-made and acted SPIDER-MAN looked good.

And then came the finished product.

WOW!

Almost everything is right with this movie: the overall tone (very true to the Stan Lee/Johnny Romita/Steve Ditko eras of the comic), the dazzling visuals (supervised by the brilliant John Dykstra), the casting (Willem Dafoe made a great Goblin, although I wished they'd gone with a mask instead of the helmet, for more facial expression), the music (exciting and effective as always, by Danny Elfman).

WOW.

SPIDER-MAN deserved to be the huge hit it was, and still deserves to be seen and experienced. Kirsten Dunst (ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, MARIE ANTOINETTE) is just perfect as Mary Jane Watson, and the upside-down kiss is now the stuff of legend; James Franco (FLYBOYS, PINEAPPLE EXPRESS) looks and acts as if he could truly be the son of Willem Dafoe; Cliff Robertson (CHARLY, BRAINSTORM) and Rosemary Harris (BEING JULIA, BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD) are absolutely dead-on emotionally right as Ben and May Parker; and J. K. Simmons (TV's THE CLOSER and LAW AND ORDER, among hundreds of TV and film appearances) is a fabulous J. Jonah Jameson. Also look for Bill Nunn as Robbie Robertson, Elizabeth Banks as Betty Brant, Sam's bruddah Ted Raimi as Hoffman, and a nice guest appearance by the one and only Bruce Campbell (and check out Bruce's books "Make Love The Bruce Campbell Way" and "If Chins Could Kill" for a tremendously funny read).

Yes, Stan the Man has a quick cameo, too.

The David Koepp (CARLITO'S WAY, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE) screenplay keeps everything that comics fans love about the Marvel stories, so you know that beyond the action and adventure there are going to be characters with full personalities and real problems with which you can identify. The cinematography by Don Burgess is golden and Sam Raimi's staging of iconic Spidey poses within the frame is seemingly effortless.

Okay, if you haven't seen SPIDER-MAN, do so. And once you've decided that it most definitely is a keeper in the ol' DVD library, make sure you get the Two-Disc Widescreen Special Edition. The set comes with goodies galore, including onscreen factoids that pop up while watching the movie, commentary from Sam Raimi, Kirsten Dunst and producers Laura Ziskin and Grant Curtis, SFX commentary from John Dykstra (SILENT RUNNING, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, BATMAN FOREVER) and his team, Webisodes, Trailers, Documentaries, Screen Tests, a Gag Reel, comic archives, DVD-ROM content and a whole lot more! The transfer to digital is every bit as crackerjack as you think it would be, with sharp blacks, beautiful color and a sound mix to die for (check it out on headphones!). And don't mess with the Pan and Scan edition: Raimi really knows how to use the 2:35 Widescreen format to its fullest extent.

So grab some popcorn, sit back and prepare to be blown away by Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. THWIP!

(Awesome Movie)
『I love this movie. The actors were perfect for their roles and the action was great. It brings you into Peter Parker's world and allows you to discover with him, his new power. Probably the best in the trilogy, it introduces you to one of our favorite super heroes with great style.』

(How It Should Look&Sound!)
『Short and sweet a great purchase. Forget HD&Blu-Ray if u want to save money and get good DVD's buy Superbit or DTS DVD's. These days sound is progressing more than picture and DTS is still the standard. Recent movies look great and sound great espescially with DTS or Dolby EX. This is a great example. Oh by the way "Spiderman" 1&2 are in Superbit (excellent) and three is lame.』

(The first great superhero film since "Superman"!)
『Tobey Maguire is excellent as Peter Parker, and Willem Dafoe equally good as Norman Osbourne. But it's J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson who steals the show. See it.』
『A shy intelligent outcast teenager is accidentally bitten by a genetically engineered spider. Suddenly he is empowered with the speed strength and agility of a spider transforming him into an extaordinary hero. Studio: Sony Pictures Home Ent Release Date: 09/27/2005 Starring: Tobey Maguire Kirsten Dunst Run time: 121 minutes Rating: Pg13 Director: Sam Raimi』
『For devoted fans and nonfans alike,Spider-Manoffers nothing less--and nothing more--than what you'd expect from a superhero blockbuster. Having proven his comic-book savvy with the originalDarkman, director Sam Raimi brings ample energy and enthusiasm to Spidey's origin story, nicely establishing high-school nebbish Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) as a brainy outcast who reacts with appropriate euphoria--and well-tempered maturity--when a "super-spider" bite transforms him into the amazingly agile, web-shooting Spider-Man. That's all well and good, and so is Kirsten Dunst as Parker's girl-next-door sweetheart. WhereSpider-Manfalls short is in its hyperactive CGI action sequences, which play like a video game instead of the gravity-defying exploits of a flesh-and-blood superhero. Willem Dafoe is perfectly cast as Spidey's schizoid nemesis, the Green Goblin, and the movie's a lot of fun overall. It's no match forSupermanandBatmanin bringing a beloved character to the screen, but it places a respectable third.--Jeff Shannon

(Seymour's Scrumptious Serenade)
『With a story immortalized by the follow-up Rick Moranis remake, the original 1960 Little Shop of Horrors is a timeless classic of American cinema and storytelling. After all, what is more quintessentially American than a wisecracking, blood-thirsty plant? And although Jack Nicholson's much-promoted role in the film is rather minor, Little Shop does provide the curious student of film with the opportunity to observe some of his early work.

This DVD by newcomer Legend Films is a particularly good value to both collectors and fans alike because it contains not just the newly colorized version of the movie, but also a cleaned-up black and white version. Why is this so important? For starters, the original film is now in the public domain. While this is great for ensuring wide availability of the material and its consequent long-term survival, it often creates a situation where a good number of shoddy copies flood the market, making it difficult to find a truly "watch-able" version of the film, or certainly one worth spending good money on. The fully-restored black and white version provided on this DVD represents the best-available quality of the film, particularly because it has been significantly cleaned up by Legend, who appears to be the only studio paying due attention to classic films.

In our day and age of media overload and colors galore, a strong case can be made for the necessity of colorizing old films. When you watch Little Shop of Horrors, I believe that unless you know the film has been colorized after the fact, you would not be able to tell otherwise. This is not the shoddy Ted Turner-esque colorization of the 1980s, and the advance of technology in the interim decades certainly shows in a positive way.

I would be remiss if I did not also make special mention of a unique Special Feature attendant to this particular DVD. Included with both versions of the film is a Mystery Science Theater 3000 style commentary by the show's former writer and star, Mike Nelson. For the uninitiated, MST3K was a decade long cult television show wherein Mike and two fellow comedians would spurt forth hilarious commentary during a low budget sci-fi movie. The whole process itself essentially constitutes an entire third version of the film, because it so dramatically changes the movie watching experience with its pertinent humor.』

『A classic tale of boy-meets-girl, plant-eats-people with Jack Nicholson in one of his first film roles. Seymour's exotic plant has an insatiable appetite only for blood and flesh. As the ruthless plant grows larger with each feeding, so does Seymour's affections for shop girl, Audrey. The madness culminates with Seymour and his bloodthirsty plant in a feeding frenzy of epic proportions. This timeless cult favorite is in color for the first time on DVD and pristinely restored in high definition from rare 35mm film elements. Roger Corman'sLittle Shop of Horrorshas never looked better.』

(Great Christmas Movie)
『I just watched the movie with my brother and wife. It was a great movie and very proud of Jared, he did a wonderful job.』

(Heartwarming.)
『Heartwarming...After reading one of the reviews here on Amazon, I was reluctant to buy this movie due to the mention of the profanity. I'm glad that I listened to my instincts and purchased it. I truly enjoyed the movie and thought it was very touching and inspiring. The profanity that was used was so minimal that you hardly recall it being used. The only problem that I found with the movie was the volume. I had to turn my volume all the way up and listen closely in order to hear. Other than that, I would recommend that you add this movie to your Christmas collection.』

(Yes it's a family movie for Pete's Sakes!)
『Some weirdos are getting on here saying this is not a family movie due to vulgarity and sensuality. I don't think they saw the same movie I saw. There is more vulgarity and sensuality spending five minutes anywhere outside this movie...walking down a street, at school, tv shows or commercials. Please do yourself a favor and ignore those reviews. You'll be glad and thankful for it. The whole movie has to do with redemption, and God's love, and it has the guts to say so, in a way that I don't think would turn off most non-religious or religious people. This movie is a gem, the acting is excellent, and I am ordering a copy or two for gifts. If you are an aspiring artist, or know someone who is, this movie is a God-send.』

(Good for once a year holiday viewing)
『I thought the movie was 'ok' for once a year holiday viewing. It has a number of fine actors (with Peter O'Toole standing out as always) as the elder painter suffering from Parkinson's Disease like symtoms. I think the film needed a script which matched the calibre of the actors they got. The 'bad' language that some viewers commented on, sorry, did not bother me... kids hear far worse in their homes, schools (and in churches at times). The picture struck a pretty good balance with being heartwarming, Christmas-y and showing realistic small town life (which can be far from 'family-friendly' believe me). Still the plot (except for that part involving Mr. O'Toole) seemed predictable. I'd watch it once a year, as part of my family's lineup (and plan to purchase it). The interview with Kinkade is interesting as he speaks about what it was like to grow up in a family w/o a father and a working mother who supported his family.』

(Awful!)
『This movie was not good at all and I was very disappointed in Thomas Kinkade! I've bought all of his Christmas story books so was very excited to buy this DVD. The sound was terrible and the story was a huge disappointment! My son is with Warner Brothers Pictures and he thought I might enjoy it. NO! I am giving it away!』
『Returning home from college one Christmas, young artist Thomas Kinkade (Jared Padalecki) is dismayed to learn that attempts to promote local tourism have failed and his mother (Marcia Gay Harden) is dangerously close to losing the family cottage to foreclosure. Inspired by his mentor, Glen (Peter O'Toole), a famous artist who lives next door, Thom accepts a job painting a mural of his small, idyllic hometown. With Glen's help, Thom not only discovers his calling as the Painter of Light(tm) but also helps the town rediscover the true spirit of Christmas in this nostalgic, humorous and heartwarming true story destined to become a holiday classic.
