("Damn it's cold!!!")
『Inspired by a true story, TO BRAVE ALASKA stars Alyssa Milano as one half of a young couple forced to fight for their lives in the Alaskan wilderness in the 1970s. Tired of their careers as a policeman and a waitress, Roger and Denise pack up their bags for Alaska, where they plan to live a less structured life. But this idyllic fantasy is quickly shattered by the devastating reality of getting lost in the Alaskan rough. With no one to save them, the couple must depend on each other if they plan to survive.

For the Milanoer ....good addition to the collection.

(Skip this sequal and buy the 1st movie.)
『ok, this isn't really a sequal, just more of the same jokes from the 1st movie, "Another gay movie." This sequal is not funny, suffers from really bad editing and plot lines and is a near-total waste of time. The scary part is that there is going to be another sequal called, "Gays is Space."』

(We Asked For It)
『"Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild"

We Asked For It

Amos Lassen

"Another Gay Movie" was quite the hit when it came out last year---so much so that TLA gives us a sequel. "Another Gay Movie" was about four young gay men who wanted desperately to get laid for the first time. Now the guys want to see who can get laid the most. Our boys--Andy, Nico, Jarod and Griff are ready for action so they go to Fort Lauderdale for Spring Break to see how much sex they can have. With great enthusiasm they enter the "Gays Gone Wild" contest which is hosted by Tyrell Tyrell (RuPaul) and Sandi Cove (Lady Bunny). The goal of the contest is to get the most sex and the guys are eager. There are several challenges to participate in including a wet package contest, slip and slide shuffleboard, competing with an evil three man clique and body lice the size of small puppies. But the biggest obstacle for three of the guys is love as one of the guys falls for a hunky Hispanic and two others are involved in a monogamous relationship.
There are lots of laughs here and plenty slapstick and base humor, some of it is gross and juvenile. The members of the original cast does not participate in the sequel and I understand that this is because they did not want to be typecast as gay so we have new guys playing the leads except for Joseph Blechman as Nico and he is nellier than ever. The boys learn that getting laid is not so easy and the attempts are hysterically funny.
There is lots of male nudity, penis humor and good looking men and an outlandish, ribald golden shower sequence. There is little about gay life that the movie does not touch and the film is both crude and rude. There is belching, farting, vomiting, butt plugs and almost anything else you can think of.
It's a fun movie if you do not get wrapped up in it's crudity--take it for what it is. It is not supposed to be a classic or something you have to think about.

『The boys are back and they re as horny as ever! Packed with celebrity cameos and total gross-out humor, this outrageous follow-up to Another Gay Movie centers around the Spring Break adventures of Andy, Nico, Jarod and Griff when they enter the Fort Lauderdale Gays Gone Wild contest (a contest to see who gets laid the most). The frisky foursome become entwined in all sorts of sexual misadventures in this scandalously funny un-PC comedy.』

(Outstanding)
『Elf is simply one of the best holiday movies EVER. I put this one right up there with A Christmas Story, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the very programme to which Elf plays homage.

Will Ferrell is brillant as Buddy, the human orphan who found a home and love at the North Pole with Papa Elf, one of Santa's employees. When Buddy decides to return to New York City to find his birth father, hilarity ensues.

Elf has wonderfully funny goofy moments, poignant moments, disgustingly funny moments -- like when he eats the already-been-chewed gum from a subway railing -- and a few serious moments.

Zooey Deschanel is great as Buddy's love interest, and James Caan and Mary Steenburgen are solid as Buddy's father and stepmother.

Elf is an intelligent, endearing comedy suitable for the entire family. Just make sure your little ones know that cotton balls aren't food, and that no matter what Buddy says, syrup is not a food group.』

(Great Christmas Film-Will Be A Classic!)
『Someday this movie will be looked back on as a holiday classic. Fun and smart. Will Ferrell at his best. It's colorful, hopeful, and actually shows just how great it can be to believe in something.

My 4 year old daughter has watched this film about 15 times since last Christmas. I'm upgrading to blu-ray for this can't miss Christmas classic.

(Yea, it was cute...)
『I thought that this movie was cute. I didn't expect it to be anything like Anchorman or Old School since those are movies that I would never watch with my little nephew. It was light-hearted and Will Ferrell committed to the character well. I never thought this to be anything but a kid's movie which I think it did pretty well. I probably would rate it negatively too if I thought I was going to get an "Anchorman" performance, laden with sexual references and curse words. The film is just as it's supposed to be; light-hearted, fun and entertaining and I liked it (and there is nothing wrong with my state-of-mind;-)
Yea, it was cute.』

(An annual watch)
『I don't watch too many movies more than once, and hardly ever buy any, but this clever film is a favorite of mine. My kids and I watch it every year around Christmas and regale each other with lines from the movie. I noticed my brother doing the same with his kids. (Are you an angry elf?) I am sure we are not the only ones.
I love how John Favreau tied it into the Christmas movies we watched when we were younger.
Highly recommend!』

(Light, Sweet, Hilarious!)
『In a world filled with elf and Santa Claus movies, this one definitely stands out from the crowd. The movie is about a human baby who accidentally crawls into Santa's sack on one fateful Christmas day, and consequently is transported to the north pole to live among cheerful, happy, Christmas-adoring elves. And like all good adopted kids in the movies, Buddy wants to meet his biological father and sets out to find him in the most un-north pole like city, New York.

Will Ferrell is perfect for this role. He is endearing as the innocent and vulnerable Buddy. You can't help but adore him. As a critical movie watcher, I sometimes imagine certain characters with different actors, but I really can't imagine anyone else playing Buddy but Will Ferrell.
The supporting actors were all very well casted as well. They all perfectly complemented Buddy's over-the-top persona.

Jon Favreau has done it marvellously. This film is light, sweet, and hilarious! A great holiday fun!

『This hilarious Christmas film tells the tale of a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts on Christmas Eve and is transported back to the North Pole and raised as an elf. Years later Buddy learns he is not really an elf and goes on a journey to New York City to find his true identity.

Elfis genuinely good. Not justSaturday Night Live-movie good, when the movie has some funny bits but is basically an insult to humanity;Elfis a smartly written, skillfully directed, and deftly acted story of a human being adopted by Christmas elves who returns to the human world to find his father. And because the writing, directing, and acting are all genuinely good,Elfis also genuinely funny. Will Ferrell, as Buddy the adopted elf, is hysterically sincere. James Caan, as his rediscovered father, executes his surly dumbfoundedness with perfect aplomb. Zooey Deschanel, as a department store worker with whom Buddy falls in love, is adorably sardonic. Director Jon Favreau (Swingers) shepherds the movie through all the obligatory Christmas cliches and focuses on material that's sometimes subtle and consistently surprising. Frankly,Elffeels miraculous. Also featuring Mary Steenburgen, Bob Newhart, Peter Dinklage, and Ed Asner as Santa Claus.--Bret Fetzer

(Yes, it truly is even better than the first. . .)
『Okay. SPIDER-MAN was a smash in the Summer of 2002, so naturally Columbia Pictures and Marvel wanted a sequel. How could they possibly top themselves?

Doc Ock.

Awright! Yes, I was excited. When I saw the promo art for Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius I was very, very impressed. If they did this right. . .

SPIDER-MAN 2 is the very best Superhero film ever made, in my humble opinion. It is a beautiful balance of character, action, emotion, excitement and art. It is not merely a Summer Blockbuster: it is a well-rounded film that has become a classic.

The team from the first film returned for 2, and their camaraderie is evident in every frame of the movie. Actors Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Rosemary Harris and J. K. Simmons inhabit their characters more completely this time around, and the screenplay by Oscar winner Alvin Sargent (JULIA, ORDINARY PEOPLE, PAPER MOON) from a multi-writer story is nothing short of brilliant. What makes this movie really, really work even better than the first are the small moments, the time in between the big set-pieces. The exchanges between Peter and his Aunt May, between Peter and Mary Jane, between Peter and Octavius, between Peter and Harry, these are the gold in SPIDEY 2. They display a depth seldom seen in an action film, let alone a Summer Tentpole, and you will find yourself quoting the beautifully written lines again and again.

The gorgeous, colorful cinematography this time around is by Bill Pope, and on the DVD (on a big-screen TV, of course) the transfer to digital is clear, sharp, properly saturated and bright. The sound is full and rich, dialogue mixed high enough within the commotion so that you can easily understand even without headphones.

Now, to the action: Alfred Molina (MAVERICK, CHOCOLAT, and, yes, that was Alfred as Snidely Whiplash in the Brendan Fraser DUDLEY DO-RIGHT) is a dynamite Doc Ock. They even gave him several shots with the mussed-up Moe Howard hair and glasses for the classic look. And his Otto Octavius has a well-thought-out character arc, from dedicated scientist to villain to a remorseful, heartbroken man who makes one last sacrifice to save his soul. A truly great adversary for Spidey. And if you haven't seen the movie yet, wait 'til you see their fight on top of, through, and around a speeding elevated train. Spectacular.

And then, once the fight is ended, another of those wonderful, superbly written moments, this time between Spidey and the passengers on the train.

Yes, there is action galore, with a bank robbery, the truly frightening awakening of Ock's independent-thought arms in an operating room (shades of EVIL DEAD!), a fight to save Aunt May up and down the side of Noo Yawk buildings, and more. The effects team, having had two years to work on the art of the technology, really outdo themselves on SPIDEY 2. Just the work needed to make the Ock arms believable is amazing. Once again, the John Dykstra team does incredible stuff.

Now, of course, when (not if, WHEN) you decide to add SPIDER-MAN 2 to your DVD library, make sure you go for the Two-Disc Widescreen Special Edition. Not as many goodies as on the Special Edition of the first movie, but this time around we still have quite a few: commentary track number one is from Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire, producers Avi Arad and Grant Curtis and commentary track number two is from the technical team on the creation of all the nifty effects; "Spidey Sense 2", a trivia track akin to the one on the first movie that pops up as you watch; Webisodes, a music video, a blooper reel, trailers for both Spideys and a bunch of other Columbia movies, a feature-length documentary on the making of SPIDEY 2, several short documentaries, an art gallery of the Alex Ross paintings used in the opening of the movie, and more.

Addendum:

Since this review will also appear under the SPIDER-MAN 2.1 listing, I will note that on that particular release (of course, I own it!) there are eight more minutes of footage, including much more of the Ock/Spidey side-of-the-building fight, a longer scene at the birthday party, a longer and different scene in the elevator with Hal Sparks (I love the concept of a Spidey Scent called "Thwip"!), J. K. Simmons cavorting in his newly-acquired Spidey Suit, and more. Also included is a new commentary track with producer Laura Ziskin and screenwriter Alvin Sargent which is fairly dull. I stopped listening after about a half hour of drone. Hey, Sargent is a brilliant screenwriter, but keep him away from microphones! Stick to what you do exceedingly well. There is a pop-up trivia track, too, referred to as "Spidey Sense 2.1", which is pretty much the same as on the SPIDER-MAN 2 disc, but this time, they've added a bit of behind the scenes footage. There is also a little new documentary stuff, but the main reason for picking this up is the extra footage. And, besides, you can get it at a great price right here on Amazon.

(A Marvel)
『This movie is a masterpiece. It has a broad reach, genuine complexity in the emotional lives of the characters and a compelling storyline. I used to read Marvel comics all the time when I was a kid and this film captures those more fully than anything else in this genre. Peter Parker's anguish, star-crossed lovers, megalomaniacs running amok..it is like Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet and Julius Caesar rolled into an action movie. Speaking of action, some of the sequences in this film are jaw dropping. The elevated subway ride is the best use of a subway in a movie since The Matrix and is just breathtaking. At the same time the movie is very well paced, razzle dazzle action sequences are mixed up with quiet moments of tenderness. The original Spiderman movie was fine but not in this league. ( Hey, wish the matrix sequels had followed same trajectory!). I also really enjoyed the humor scattered through the movie. For everyone who loves this comic genre, I'd say this is the movie where they got it right. For people who don't, you will enjoy it anyway.』

(One of the best films of all time!)
『Maguire and Molina are excellent in this 2004 masterpiece, that, yes, has more J.K. Simmons. See it.』

(Good)
『The dread franchise film has killed off many a potentially interesting character (Superman, Batman, Ripley, Rocky)&given leases of life to characters that are paper-thin (Indy Jones, Jason Voorhees, Catwoman). The latest franchise film is Spider-Man 2, directed by Sam Raimi. The 1st Spider-Man was probably the best comic book film ever made- mostly because its leads- Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man,&Kirsten Dunst as his love- Mary Jane Watson a) can both act (unlike, say Christopher Reeve as Superman), b) are well cast (unlike Michael Keaton in the 1st 2 Batman films).&c) have chemistry (unlike Reeve&Margot Kidder in the Superman films). Maguire, especially, is so good an actor that he is 1 of those rarities that can run a panoply of emotions through just his eyes. He is almost irresistible to watch onscreen.... All in all, a very good film,&along with the 1st film, simply the best superhero films ever made. I hope the writers from this film stick with the whole series because, next to Batman, Spidey probably has the best pantheon of villains in comic book lore. Future baddies could include Dr. Doom, Venom, Carnage, the Sandman, Rhino, the Lizard,&Electro, among others. But, what makes good writing in such a film valuable are the little moments- like Peter's confession to Aunt May about how&why Uncle Ben really died, a surreal moment on an elevator between Spidey&a shocked citizen, references to other characters in the Marvel Comics universe, allusions¶llels to Oscar Wilde's The Important Of Being Earnest,&a street musician singing the old Spider-Man tv cartoon series theme song from the 1960s. Such touches are what invigorate this franchise above the others&what killed off the increasingly dark&directionless Batman franchise. Sam Raimi proves he is a director who knows how to milk a proven commodity without imposing his own distorted `vision' on it- unlike Batman director Tim Burton.』

(Good for Geeks, Though a Bit Short on Features)
『If you liked Spider-man 2, you should love Spider-man 2.1. The extra scenes are all great scenes that add nuance to the already-excellent film. They're mostly extra character bits, things that weren't needed, but certainly help paint the picture. The extra bits are so well-blended into the old footage that I didn't even recognize one new shot as such until, when watching the original version again, I noticed that it wasn't there.
Most memorable to me were J. Jonah Jameson wearing his newly-found Spider-man suit and pretending that he's the superhero, a much more rational and less venal confrontation between Peter and Harry at his birthday party (I'd always thought that scene in the original version was a bit choppy and emotionally sporadic) and a wonderful conversation between Mary Jane and her Maid-of-Honor about why she's marrying John Jameson.
The DVD set was lacking in features. There is a new commentary track featuring Producer Laura Ziskin and Writer Steve Ditko, but it's not very interesting. In addition, the other two commentary tracks were removed. For commentary buffs like myself, this should not be.
Most of the rest of the special features are all new, including a featurette about the new material. Unfortunately, these few extras have replaced the old bonus disc. You could do what I did, find a cheap copy of the original Spider-man 2, keep that bonus disc and give the movie itself to a friend so you have a 3-disc set, but that seems a lot to do just to have the complete set of bonus features.
In all, I would highly recommend this version. If you're a Spider-man fan or just a DVD geek, get this movie, just be prepared to have less bonus features than before.』

『Peter parkers having a rough time. Things are so bad he declares that hes quitting&never putting on the suit again. However his sense of duty forces him to become a hero again when dr octavius is deformed in an accident&becomes dr octopus. Studio: Sony Pictures Home Ent Release Date: 04/25/2006 Starring: Tobey Maguire James Franco Run time: 127 minutes Rating: Pg13』
『More than a few critics hailedSpider-Man 2as "the best superhero movie ever," and there's no compelling reason to argue--thanks to a bigger budget, better special effects, and a dynamic, character-driven plot, it's a notch aboveSpider-Manin terms of emotional depth and rich comic-book sensibility.Ordinary PeopleOscar®-winner Alvin Sargent received screenplay credit, and celebrated author and comic-book expert Michael Chabon worked on the story, but it's director Sam Raimi's affinity for the material that bringsSpidey 2to vivid life. When a fusion experiment goes terribly wrong, a brilliant physicist (Alfred Molina) is turned into Spidey's newest nemesis, the deranged, mechanically tentacled "Doctor Octopus," obsessed with completing his experiment and killing Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) in the process. Even more compelling is Peter Parker's urgent dilemma: continue his burdensome, lonely life of crime-fighting as Spider-Man, or pursue love and happiness with Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst)? Molina's outstanding as a tragic villain controlled by his own invention, and the action sequences are nothing less than breathtaking, but the real success ofSpider-Man 2is its sense of priorities. With all of Hollywood's biggest and best toys at his disposal, Raimi and his writers stay true to the Marvel mythology, honoringSpider-Mancreators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, and setting the bar impressively high for the challenge ofSpider-Man 3.--Jeff Shannon

(Please, no sequels. This is just enough and lackluster at best!)
『As Will Smith has become the "King" of the summer blockbuster, you would think the film company and director would produce a proper showing for such high expectations of a superstar. Unfortunately, what you get here is a stellar first hour filled with lots of character development, complex plot lines, so-so acting (we're not lookin for Oscars here) and some tricked out special effects that are mind blowing to say the least.

Then comes the last 40 minutes or so... Right about the time Will Smith gets thrown for a loop in the plot line and everything unravels from then on. I can see why they did this since you can only keep teenage boys' attention for so long before it falls into oblivion. Take a great story and round up all your plot points for one plot point and get to the ending as soon as possible. Quite a shame because there was a lot going for this movie in the beginning. If they had kept that momentum going and used the antagonists like they should have, this would've been a really great film. Unfortunately, it's all fodder by the time the film ends.

I give this movie three stars because of the great first hour and it being truly visionary in it's concept. Unfortunately, it just doesn't earn the other 2 stars to make it a first rate movie, falling short of a cohesive whole. Rent this film and see for yourself but don't buy this one unless you really gotta have every Will Smith movie.』

(HANCOCK is Pure Popcorn Fun!!)
『Superman was raised by a kindly couple and taught the decent way to live and respect life. Thor is the God of thunder who was exiled from his home of eternal Asgard to live on Earth as a mortal so that he may learn humility. Spider-man required personal tragedy so he could realize the responsibility of having powers--Batman deals with his tragedy in a very different way, for him he does what he does for vengeance.

All comic book "super-heroes" have their stories of the "why's", the "how's" and the "what's". Director Peter Berg's "HANCOCK" is a spin on the super-hero genre, together with the screenplay by Vincent Ngo and Vince Gilligan they present a hero not adapted from any line of comic book myth. The film has all the elements of a comic and exudes "popcorn entertainment".

John Hancock (Will Smith) is a man with tremendous powers, he has chosen to use these powers to help people but he has been labeled as a menace in the eyes of the public. He befriends a public relations specialist named Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman) who encourages him to be "nice" and stop acting like a jerk. Despite the protestations of his wife Mary (Charlize Theron) not to get too close, Ray and Hancock forges an uneasy relationship. Hancock is a guy who has no idea exactly how he came to be--he's an immortal with no memory of his past. He is, however, about to find out....

The first act of the film fleshes out the frustrations and anger that Hancock suffers. He is brash, careless, irresponsible, rude, hot-headed and well, a lot arrogant. He carelessly uses his powers to help but for some reason, the people he helps ends up disliking him. Power without responsibility and the ability to use wisely is indeed a menace. He wreaks destruction to property and his exploits prove too expensive for the city so a warrant for his arrest is issued. This aspect has been explored in Marvel's "Civil War" comic mini-series, which delves into a plotline about a required government registration act for super-beings. For in the real world, property damage is a major obstacle for super-heroes. (no wonder they wear masks) The film is sort of a "coming of age" movie, as the character of Ray Embrey becomes his sort of a mentor--ironic that a mere mortal could teach him the ropes of "super-heroing". The film is sort of a social affair and fleshes out the feeling of alienation to those who are different. There is one major plot hole or a perhaps more of a question in the film, a being as powerful as Hancock can be affected by alcohol or does he just act as if he is so impaired? Where does he get his money--does he do anything for a living?

The film is more than your "run of the mill" comic film, it does attempt to find a soul. The origins of Hancock is quite interesting and while it is a tad underdeveloped (no doubt a set up for a sequel) the script does offer quite a few surprises. The film does have a sort of a "love triangle", no doubt to please the female audience. The mystery of Hancock is actually the film's most effective selling point and opens up to a lot of potential, it manages to achieve this for a first installment. There is a touch of tragedy in the film's final act as Hancock has to choose and sacrifice. It is a bit predictable but nonetheless it manages to maintain its forward momentum since the groundwork had been carefully laid out. All heroes have a weakness--this one is sort of a fail-safe for god-like beings. That weakness may be a little undefined and underdeveloped but it was interesting enough to get some emotions going.

The special effects are quite impressive. The flights and exploits of Hancock is pure eye-candy as he crushes and destroys property. I especially loved the scene when he stopped a locomotive as it is a clear example of his single-minded purpose with no regard for anything else. The superhuman fight is quite fun to see but it was just too much special effects that it lacked definition of the combatants. I rather expected a more dragged-out fight than a minor display of special effects. The film has some nice touches of humor--that prison scene that involved two inmates is very amusing although a lot far-fetched and unbelievable. One thing I have to say, Hancock has to watch himself carefully when he has sex.

Will Smith has definitely matured as an actor since his "Fresh Prince" days. The man can indeed act and while it is the same acting style as in his previous movies, he did fit the character. His performance may not be on par as in "The Pursuit of Happyness" but he made best with whatever he had to work with. Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman proves a competent supporting cast; Theron is still as sexy as ever and Bateman is the usual "nice guy" with integrity.

Overall, "HANCOCK" is a lot of fun. The film is very enjoyable and entertaining; while it does have its flaws, the script managed to keep me interested for its entirety. The effective twist is sort of a tragedy and played a key element on its success. The direction by Peter Berg manages to keep an amount of restraint that I commend him for doing so, since some scenes had the dangerous potential to become heavy-handed. The effective chemistry between its performers and the nicely paced action sequences makes it a fun popcorn film. I am pretty sure there will be a sequel since Hancock's character had just started cooking and if there will be a "Hancock 2", consider me all in.

Video/Audio: 2.35 ratio anamorphic widescreen. The image is very good but it looked a little soft on some scenes. I think studios aren't mastering Dvds in High-def for full Picture potential anymore to push the Blu-Ray product. It's a good image but it could have looked a lot better. Maybe it was meant to look this way? The 5.1 Dolby Digital audio is very powerful and fits this kind of movie.
Extras: making of/production notes/seeing the future feature about its storyboard and concepts/Effects concept/backgrounds
The unrated version has an added scene to display Hancock's prowess in bed and contains some more profanity. The added scenes may not add anything significant but it does add a more humorous and gritty feel.

Highly Recommended! [4- Stars]

(Nobody loves me, everybody hates me I guess I'll go to the bar and drink-"Hancock": the superhero everyone hates)
『"Hancock" is two films in one and one of them is much better than the other. Hancock (Will Smith)has super powers but no memory of who he is. He slips into a life of drinking to drown his sorrows--the people he saves don't like him because he seems to screw up every time he saves someone. Luckily Ray Embrey(Jason Bateman) a PR man that Hancock saves decides to save Hancock by making him into a super hero that the people will appreciate. Even Ray's son has taken a shine to Hancock while Ray's
wife Mary (Charlize Theron)appears not to like him.

Director Peter Berg does a nice job with the action sequences and Will Smith continues to prove that he has a lot more to offer dramatically as an actor even in a summer blockbuster like "Hancock". The major flaw in "Hancock" is the uneven tone of the film. It shifts from an almost satirical film about a misanthropic superhero into a darker, morally complex film by the last third. That wouldn't be a problem but the transition is so sudden its almost jarring.

Interestingly, the unrated theatrical version hints at the complexity to come much earlier in the film with one key scene that was trimmed probably for ratings reasons. The unrated version plays better than the rated version but it is also less succinct with a handful of scenes that could easily have been cut because of the repetition in them. Director Peter Berg does a pretty good job of juggling all the themes and shifts in tone throughout the film and if he drops the ball on occasion I think it's understandable because "Hancock" tries to be two very different films often at the same time. The other issue is that there really isn't a bad guy introduced that provides much of a challenge for Hancock.

The Blu-ray looks exceptional with crisp images and colors that pop. Sony has done a exceptional job of transitioning this from the theater to home video. Audio sounds terrific as well with an active 7.1 mix.

The extras are very good. Although we don't get a commentary track, we do a lot of featurettes that take us behind-the-scenes. Aside from getting both the original theatrical version of the film (which has less bad language and a sexual situation removed that IS pretty amusing and also sad at the same time) and the "Unrated" version, we also get a nice mix of featurettes on the production of the film. One observation about the bad language issue--the same result could have been achieved with Hancock being called an "idiot" as an "a-hole" so the use of the latter seems like an excuse to put teens in the seat and get a PG-13 rating (which the film would have gotten anyway for other reasons). When will Hollywood learn that we don't need to hear people spewing foul language out of characters mouths every 5 minutes (particularly in a superhero film that stars kid friendly Will Smith?). I should note that there is also a single disc edition but, beyond the fact that it doesn't have the "unrated" version, I have no idea what special features might be on the disc or missing.

We also get a digital copy of the film (some people will like this extra but I find it useless for the most part) in the second disc. We also get "Superhumans: The Making of Hancock" a promo piece on the making of the film. We also get "Seeing the Future" a 16 minute featurette that can be viewed either as one featurette or in its individual segments.

Visual effects maestro John Dykstra ("Spider-Man" and the original visual effects for "Star Wars: A New Hope" before Lucas messed with it) takes center stage with "Building a Better Hero". "Bumps and Bruises" focuses on the action sequences of the film. We also get "Home Life" and "Suiting Up" which are pretty self explanatory looks at the Embreys and Hancock. Finally actor/director Berg sits in the driver's seat for "Mere Mortals: Behind the Scenes with "Dirty Pete'" focusing on the director's off-beat sense of humor and practical jokes. Rounding out the extras are a series of previews for "The House Bunny" and "Lakeview Terrace" among others.

(Sony Pulled a Bait and Switch)
『If you are a Mac user, do not buy the 2 disc edition as it contains a "digital copy" that cannot be played on Apple computers. I call this a bait and switch since the packaging mentions that it contains a digital copy but does not warn that it cannot be played on Macs. This should be made clear since "iTunes compatible" copies are usually included.
Once again Sony shows why it is still playing catch up in the digital age (computers, mp3 players, video game consoles).』

(Great and good fun)
『Just watched it - for an old sci-fi guy (1963 series of Outer Limits, yup I watched the orginal in B&W) nice plot, moved well - I thought I'd seen it all, but I let the story take me - I thought it was a fun ride with heart.

『Academy Award® nominee Will Smith (Best Actor,The Pursuit of Happyness, 2006) stars in this action-packed comedy as Hancock, a sarcastic, hard-living and misunderstood superhero who has fallen out of favor with the public. When Hancock grudgingly agrees to an extreme makeover from idealistic publicist Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman,Juno), his life and reputation rise from the ashes and all seems right again--until he meets a woman (2003 Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron, Best Actress,Monster) with similar powers to his and the key to his secret past.』
Hancockturns the standard superhero movie inside-out: The title character (Will Smith) can fly, has superstrength, and is invulnerable, but he's also a sloppy, alcoholic jerk who causes millions of dollars in property damage whenever he bothers to fight crime. When he saves the life of a public-relations agent named Ray (Jason Bateman,Arrested Development), Ray decides to improve Hancock's image--starting by having Hancock surrender himself to the authorities and go to prison for his lawless behavior. The idea is that once he's in prison, the crime rate will go up, and people will start to realize Hancock might be of value after all. This is only the first act ofHancock--from there, the movie takes several clever turns that shouldn't be revealed.Hancockisn't a great movie (among other things, director Peter Berg overuses close-ups with a hand-held camera to a degree that may cause motion sickness), but it is an extremely entertaining one. The script, which holds together far better than most superhero movies, has a propulsive plot, good dialogue, some compassion for its characters, and even an actual idea or two. The spectacular action at least gestures towards obeying the laws of physics, which actually makes the special effects more vivid. The three leads (Smith, Bateman, and Charlize Theron as Ray's wife, Mary) deftly balance the movie's mixture of comedy, action, and drama. All in all, a smart subversive twist on a genre that all too often takes itself all too seriously. --Bret Fetzer

『I bought this movie along with the soundtrack for my 11 year old daughter who is a big Jonas Brothers fan. Some of the songs are ok but the story, acting, characters, etc are soooo bad. My daughter considers it one of her favorite movies but, hee hee, I bought it so I get to review it. If you have a tween who likes the Jonas Brothers, buy it for her but LEAVE THE ROOM when she starts to watch it.』

Camp Rockis a Disney Channel original movie about a rockin' teen summer camp that's highly appealing to tweens and young teens despite the movie's failure to favorably compare with truly great Disney Channel movies likeHigh School Musical. Joe Jonas (of theJonas Brothersstars as Shane Gray, a member of the rock band Connect 3, who is compelled to serve as an instructor at Camp Rock in order to counteract his increasingly negative public image. Tess Tyler (Meaghan Jette Martin) is the camp diva whose self-absorption defies description, Caitlyn (Alyson Stoner) is a past Tess groupie who's now ostracized from the popular kids at camp, and Mitchie (Demi Lovato) is a camp newcomer whose mother is the camp cook. Caitlyn initially befriends Mitchie, but the friendship wanes when Mitchie makes up an elaborate story about her family to get accepted into Tess's exclusive clique. As Mitchie struggles to maintain her façade around camp, Shane begins to reform his bad-boy ways and find his own personal voice and he and Mitchie become friends--unfortunately, their new relationship is based partially on Mitchie's lies. In the end, Mitchie's deception is exposed as is Tess' true villainy and the perfect summer camp experience threatens to turn into the worst summer ever for everyone involved.Camp Rockis infused with lots of energy, fun choreography, and a ton of good, if not particularly memorable, music. Add in the cast of generally unlikable characters with extreme characteristics whose changes of heart at the end of the film are not particularly believable, and Disney's got an entertaining film for tweens and teens that adults might just as well skip.--Tami Horiuchi
