(As good as the play!)
『First of all, the production of the film is as good as the play itself! Now, having the chance to see it in Blu-ray gives you the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful experience almost in a live-like stage.』

(If youve ever seen the Broadway performance...)
『then you will have to be disappointed by this film. Or if you are cynical, somewhat of a purist when it comes to movie adaptations, you will have great cause to laugh and poke fun. The movie is visually decedent in many aspects, but the singing? First of all, the phantom's modern rock star voice doesnt help the fact that he cant carry notes worth a damn. And emily whats her name who plays Christine cannot hit high soprano without wavering and pinching her voice in a cringe-worthy performance. But yes, her skimpy nightgown and sexual suggestiveness when the phantom takes her down to his lair is hilariously ridiculous. Plus the eyelid fluttering during "point of no return"- subtlety is not an issue here. The first star was for some of the costumes and visual effects: the second? Because this film is more fun to make fun of than any of the films ever featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000』

(Great)
『This film is great. I love the music from Phantom and this movie is a fun version of the play. Even with it's weaknesses (sound editing is pretty bad and the Phantom's voice isn't perfect) it is a good rendition of the classic musical.』

(the phatom of the opera)
『the dvd was amazing and the time they shipped it to me was great it was delivered very fast』

(Visually stunning but miscast)
『Gerard Butler's singing made me cringe. Actually, he didn't sing as much as shout in a role that demands an excellent tenor. It killed a movie for me that otherwise was very good. You can do Professor Harold Hill with a non-singer but not the Phantom. Patrick Wilson did a fine job as Raoul. Emma Rossum had youth and innocence applicable to the role, and her singing is passable but immature, not surprising given that she was 18 when she made it. That Webber picked her personally shocks me since there are better singers. Throughout the movie I longed to hear Sarah Brightman but not as much as I wanted to hear Michael Crawford.』
『Musical Drama based on Andrew Lloyd Webber's celebrated musical phenomenon. The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a disfigured musical genius (Gerard Butler) who haunts the catacombs beneath the Paris Opera, waging a reign of terror over its occupants. When he falls fatally in love with the lovely Christine (Emmy Rossum), the Phantom devotes himself to creating a new star for the Opera, exerting a strange sense of control over the young soprano as he nurtures her extraordinary talents.』
『Although it's not as bold as Oscar darlingChicago,The Phantom of the Operacontinues the resuscitation of the movie musical with a faithful adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's blockbuster stage musical. Emmy Rossum glows in a breakout role as opera ingénue Christine Daae, and if phantom Gerard Butler isn't Rossum's match vocally, he does convey menace and sensuality in such numbers as "The Music of the Night." The most experienced musical theater veteran in the cast, romantic lead Patrick Wilson, sings sweetly but seems wooden. The biggest namein the cast, Minnie Driver, hams it up as diva Carlotta, and she's the only principal whose voice was dubbed (though she does sing the closing-credit number, "Learn to Be Lonely," which is also the only new song).

Director Joel Schumacher, no stranger to visual spectacle, seems to have found a good match in Lloyd Webber's larger-than-life vision of Gaston LeRoux's Gothic horror-romance. His weakness is cuing too many audience-reaction shots and showing too much of the lurking Phantom, but when he calms down and lets Rossum sings "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" alone in a silent graveyard, it's exquisite.

『Tang Chia is considered one of the greatest kung-fu choreographers ever. He directed three movies on his own and his last, is not only his greatest, but one of the greatest ever. Ti Lung, in one of his finest performances, stars Tieh Chiao-san, head of the Ten Kwangtung Tigers, who falls victim to opium, the drug which crippled China. The tragedies and drama that ensue are as stunning as the kung-fu, created by a superlative team of six martial artists. It leads to a truly unforgettable climax, as a trembling Tieh, still weak from going cold turkey, must face the gangsters who have ruined his town while he was addicted. A legitimate masterpiece and one of the finest, most effecting martial arts movies Shaw Brothers ever produced. Also starring Chen Kuan-Tai (Heroes Two) and Phillip Ko Fei (Enter the Dragon).』

(disappointing...)
『I am not a huge fan of Red Skelton's but this set sounded interesting and the price was low.

Unfortunately, from what I have watched, it is no surprize this early 70s show at the nadir of Red's career was short lived.

The opening monologues are dated and listless, the comedy sketches seem trite , forced and lame - Skelton often tries to break up his guests and this makes much of it seem amateurish. This is unlike the breakups on CAROL BURNETT where the the professionals try to keep in character.

And even with these being variety shows , the musical guest like Cass Elliott et al are not allowed to sing..

Unless you are a diehard fan , avoid this set』

(Well worth buying)
『This is the entire last season that Red was on TV after his "switch" from CBS to NBC. A few years ago selected skits were release on video. These are the complete half hour shows. If you are a Red Skelton fan, this is a must buy. The video quality is great considering this is from the early 70's. There are many great guest stars.』

(Did a five year old write this movie?)
『WANTED stars James McAvoy (I guess Shia Lebouf wasn't available?) as Wesley, a down on his luck guy who works at a dead end job, has a girlfriend that cheats on him, and has no money to his name. Just when he's reached the end of his rope, he's recruited by a mysterious woman named Fox (Angelina Jolie) to join an elite group of assassins called "The Fraternity". It's revealed that Wesley's estranged father was a member of The Fraternity and one of the top assassins who, ironically, was killed by a rogue Fraternity member who left the group. Under the guidance of Fox, Fraternity leader Sloan (Morgan Freeman), and a few other characters, Wesley undergoes intense and brutal training in order to harness the inherited assassin-like characteristics that were genetically passed on to him by his father. The ultimate goal: to find the man who killed his father and avenge his death.

The premise sounds really cool, but when I first saw the trailer for this movie it automatically had two BIG striked against it. One being Angelina Jolie who I absolutely can't stand and the other being the shots of bullets moving in slow motion and apparently curving around objects to hit a target that's hidden in the background. Personally, slow motion bullets annoy the hell out of me. I know, it's weird and I really can't explain it. Maybe because of the fact of how RIDICULOUS it looks! How about slow motion brains coming out of someone's skull AFTER the bullet hits it? Now that would be cool. So anyway, with the two striked against it back when it was in theaters, that meant only one thing... wait 'til the DVD comes out. Which I did. And after finally watching it, hoping to be proved wrong about my assumptions about how bad the movies is, I can say that it is as bad even WORSE than I thought.

Basically WANTED is a one and a half star movie (MAYBE even two) that's saved by two things: Morgan Freeman and great special effects. Other than that, the film is poorly written and it's amazing how a screenplay like this can even be considered by a major studio and given the budget that this film has. The action scenes and shootouts are ridiculous and seem like they were dreamed up by someone with the mentality (or imagination) of a five year old boy (for example, a shootout in which both of the gunmen are such expert shots that every time they open fire at each other, their respective bullets crash into one another). And trust me... I love dumb Action movies with over the top violence... but this one was just horrible. It seems like half the movie is in slow motion for absolutely no reason other than to look cool or something. The best way that I can explain it is by asking a question. Have you ever watched a movie that's so dumb, that you actually felt insulted or even offended by even watching it because of the level of stupidity? Well, WANTED is that movie for me.

As far as good things, the special effects were great. The effects showcased a lot of unbelievably stupid scenes but the actual effects were executed very well. Even amidst the stupidity, I actually did find a couple of moments that I liked in the film. My favorite scene is where Wesley shoots a guy in the head, sticks his gun through the hole in the guy's head and runs around with his corpse as a shield and basically shooting his firearm while it's shoved completely through the guys skull. Also the climax of the film is almost like a video game where Wesley appears to be going through different levels and taking on a miniboss of sorts until finally reaching the person (or people) that he REALLY wants to kill. There's also a twist toward the end that I didn't see coming. I won't say what it is, but let's just say that its a ripoff of EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend WANTED unless you like Angelina Jolie (you do after all get to see her naked wet buttocks, along with her terrible acting) or unless you like really stupid Action films with an emphasis on the Action and no brains to the story whatsoever. Also the one disc version of the DVD has absolutely no Extra Features. But with my personal feelings on the movie aside, I decided to give the movie a fair rating (a two and a half is generous). WANTED has moments of fun in it, great effects and visuals with an interesting twist in the plot. However, if you're anything like me and can't stand watching films with weak scripts, then you should avoid this movie like the plague because it's about as weak as it gets.

2.5 stars』

(Hmmmm.)
『This will be my first review. I wanted my first review to be a positive one. Ah, well, the best laid plans . . . I did feel I had to put how I felt after reading the rave reviews. I haven't read the comic, so I can't tell you what I think in that direction.

The story is creative, and yes the plot is thin. Outside the box the theories of this fantasy world are intriguing. I'm thankful there wasn't as much gore as fans may want, and in my life I don't care for it as I did in my younger days.

The only character that had depth was the young adult played by McAvoy.
You know what? I truly believe any film needs characters that you would relate to or get to know and love/like/hate. Even action films. I know some of you disagree there, but I think some of the best action films out there have characters that mean something, or learn something or that you can feel for.

An assassination group with scruples? How does killing people fit into any type of "norm" for anyone? Okay, maybe to some people who imagine out there that it would be cool to be a killer. Society tells people they can't discipline their kids, then when that kid becomes bad it's the parents fault. Hmmmmm, why do we get into these type of movies, and how do we teach our youth that this is not what you want to do, or be or desire to play out? How can we let them know that we want them to have long, productive lives and have loved ones support them in their endeavors?

I wouldn't let my children (18 or below) watch this type of film (the higher age bracket, 16-18, I would make sure they know the difference between real and imaginary - but that's for you all out there. I would never knowingly attend this type of movie with the entire age group - I think it's inappropriate.)

I myself will never watch the film again. I have watched few movies that I can say that of, and I won't list them here. It did teach me to monitor my own film viewings. I'll have to screen better to make sure it's something I would want to see myself.』

(Non-stop action)
『I am a woman who likes her action movies, and this one does not disappoint. Amazing effects, incredible stuntwork, and the casting is perfect! Three of my favorites(McAvoy, Morgan, and Jolie)in one movie, pure enjoyment. Highly recommended for those who are looking for a butt-kicking escape.』

(Not great)
『I really enjoyed the action scenes - shootouts, car chases, etc. But the overall story of the movie is absolutely absurd. The scenes with Wesley and Janice reminded me of Office Space. :)』

(Action, Action, and More Action)
『"Wanted" is a mile-a-second action picture that never lets up. Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) suddenly finds that his life as an ordinary office worker is over. A beautiful woman, Fox (Angelina Jolie), crashes into his life and introduces him to the Fraternity, a secret society of assassins led by the mysterious Sloan (Morgan Freeman). Wesley is informed that his long-lost father was murdered while working for the Fraternity and Wes has been chosen to target the rogue member who did it. Before he can complete his assignment, he must first uncover the dark secrets behind the Fraternity to understand why he was selected and how he figures in its plans.
The main attraction of "Wanted" is the amazing use of CGI special effects, from glass panes shattering as bodies fly through them to bullets redirecting their trajectory in mid-propulsion. Jolie manages to look as comfortable in action flicks as in serious dramas like the recent "Changeling." She is quite the action babe and easy on the eye. McAvoy, who showed his acting chops in "The Last King of Scotland" and "Atonement" seems an odd fit for "Wanted." He looks as if he's doing this one to pay for the new swimming pool. He's fine in the early scenes as a drone-like worker lost in a huge company, but his transformation into this almost-indestructible super assassin is harder to accept. Bonus extras on this two-disc DVD include an extended scene; behind-the-scenes featurettes on the film's stunts, visual effects, and origins in the graphic novel; and a making-of documentary.』

『As the impresario behind gravity-defying Russian blockbusterNight Watch, it's inevitable that Hollywood would come calling for Timur Bekmambetov. With a studio budget and an international cast, including two Oscar winners, Timur cooks up a Hong Kong-styled actioner bursting with fast cars and big guns. Our unlikely hero is mild-mannered Chicago accountant Wesley Gibson (Atonement'sJames McAvoy), whose father died when he was a tot. Wesley never learned to stand up for himself, and his girlfriend, boss, and best buddy all take advantage until the seductive Fox (Angelina Jolie) rescues him from a sharpshooter named Cross (The Pianist’sThomas Kretschmann). After which, she whisks him away to a mansion on the edge of town to meet the other members of the Fraternity, where leader Sloan (Morgan Freeman) informs Wesley that Cross, a rogue agent, executed his father. Sloan believes Wesley has the goods to take him out, so he undergoes the Fraternity's brutal training regimen (Marc Warren and Common dish up some of the abuse). When he's ready, Sloan sends him out to fulfill his duty, but matters become complicated when Wesley finds out someone isn't telling the truth, leading our former milquetoast to exact an elaborate revenge. For those who've been following McAvoy's career to date, Wanted will surely come as a surprise. In adapting Mark Millar's comic series, Timur offers buckets of blood and a smidgen of depth, but fans ofThe MatrixandMr. and Mrs. Smithwill want to give this one a look. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

(An Absolute Delight!!)
『I have seen this movie more than I can count, and I laugh hysterically everytime! Each animal character has their own issues (personal baggage). The hypochondriac giraffe; the conceited lion, a charming hippo and a zebra with a low self-esteem. I can't listen to "Staying Alive" anymore without picturing Marty, the Zebra, sashaying down the city streets, to the beat..We still find ourselves quoting the penguins, "smile and wave boys, smile and wave"...The animation is perfect for kids, but the inside jokes and innuendos are classic adult! I highly recommend purchasing this movie! I can't get enough! Madagascar 2 is hilarious as well! Can't wait to get that on DVD also!』

(Issues with LG BH200)
『I've seen the movie before and it's great.

I have trouble getting it to play on my LG BH200, which I understand is a problem with the player, not necessarily the disc; however, none of my other Blu-Ray discs seem to have any problems being played on the BH200.

The issues with this movie and the BH200 are known and hopefully LG can fix this with a firmware upgrade.』

(Love it!)
『Love this video, and it was great to watch it before going to see Madagascar 2 in the theater.』

(Animals Leave Babylon (NYC) for Madagascar: Another Speilberg Holocaust Movie?)
『Hitler's original "Final Solution to the Jewish Problem" was to send the Jews to Madagascar, which I think would have been a better place than Palestine.

This movie takes animals from the heart of Babylon (a city of commerce&confusion) on a journey similar to the transports of Jews to the concentration camps.

I liked the party animals in Magagascar the best (love to party with 'em, liked the music). Unfortunately, the party is crashed by meat eating cat-like creatures.

The only animal that I really liked was the psychedelic zebra. The hippo has a lovely voice, without a body to match. The psychedelic trips the lion took was cool too.

Yet, the animals, like Jews escaping slavery with Moses long for the fleshpots of NYC.

Loved the animation, laughed a few times but found the movie scary!』

『The penguins steal the show. In the sprightlyMadagascar, a mid-life crisis inspires Marty the Zebra (voiced by Chris Rock) to escape from his lifelong home, a New York zoo. His equally pampered friends--Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller), Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith), and Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer)--then escape to bring him back. Unfortunately, their attempt at damage control persuades zoo officials that the animals are unhappy, so all four get shipped to an animal preserve in Kenya...only a squad of maniacal penguins change the destination to Antarctica. The quartet end up on an island where, in addition to meeting some hedonistic lemurs, they learn about the food chain--and that Alex is a different link on the chain from the other three.Madagascardoesn't achieve the snappy perfection of a Pixar movie, but it tops most other computer-animated efforts; the collision of friendship and predator instincts makes for an unusually gripping conflict. The vocal performances of the central characters is serviceable, but Sacha Baron Cohen (Da Ali G Show) provides topnotch lunacy as the lemur king, and the penguins--voiced mostly by the animators themselves--are the best thing in the movie.--Bret Fetzer

(Very entertaining)
『I bought this for my grandson, who is not yet two. He watches it 2 - 3 times a day when he is over here. Actually, I am not tired of it yet. It has adult humor and the animation entrances kids.』

(Loved the anti-slavery message.)
『Oftentimes, progressive messages are contained within movies and books for children. The Bee Movie is no exception. There are several messages regarding the rights of labor, fairness, animal rights and so forth. While the corporate media often filters out progressive messages Manufacturing Consent - Noam Chomsky and the Media, there are people within the system that are creating space for messages that our children will benefit from hearing. The Bee Movie provides many moments that encourage critical thought about our economic system, the conditions of our work The Overworked American: The Unexpected Decline Of Leisure, and our relations with non-human species I Am an Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA. Sadly, so much of the media is crafted to manipulate children in the interests of Big Business Consuming Kids: Protecting Our Children from the Onslaught of Marketing&Advertising (see also the DVD of the same title from the Media Education Foundation).
As adults, it's our responsibility to encourage children to think critically, and this movie is one resource to do that. It also is just a beautifully crafted film.

(Great Movie)
『This is a great movie. My girls (2 1/2&1 yrs old) love it. They watch it at home and in the car.』

(It's like you know...)
『This is one wise-cracking bee. If you like Seinfeld, you'll like this movie. My 4 year old also enjoyed it as well. The ending seemed a bit rushed and thus only 4 stars.』

(bee minus score)
『why everyone loves this movie i will never know. the human bee interaction in the movie is just strange. the bee jokes got stale after awhile and the plot had potential then just got worse.
I did not hate this movie it just was not great. Like a lot of modern day kid movies there are a lot of jokes made for the adults so I will not lie and say i did not laugh but maybe my expectations were a little too high.
the funniest thing about this movie was the trailer on Shrek 2 dvd. If you own that movie look at the trailer. I give that a higher score than the actual movie』

『"Bee Movie" is a comedy that will change everything you think you know about bees. Having just graduated from college, a bee by the name of Barry B. Benson (Jerry Seinfeld) finds himself disillusioned with the prospect of having only one career choice—honey. As he ventures outside of the hive for the first time, he breaks one of the cardinal rules of the bee world and talks to a human, a New York City florist named Vanessa (Renee Zellweger). He is shocked to discover that the humans have been stealing and eating the bee’s honey for centuries. He ultimately realizes that his true calling in life is to set the world right by suing the human race. That is until the ensuing chaos upsets the very balance of nature. It is up to Barry to prove that even a little bee can spell big changes in the world.』
『There aren't a lot of choices in a bee's life: a bee attends a few days of school, graduates from college, and chooses a job in the hive that he'll labor at for the rest of his life. Barry (Jerry Seinfeld) is different from his best friend Adam (Matthew Broderick) and all the other bees: he wants to see the world outside the hive and can't begin to contemplate doing the same job for his entire life. Naturally, the life of the "pollen jock" bees appeals to Barry because it's the only job that takes a bee outside the hive and into the larger human world. Once outside the hive, Barry breaks the most sacred bee law and speaks to a human named Vanessa (Renée Zellweger) in order to thank her for saving his life. A relationship quickly blossoms and leads Barry to the discovery that humans are stealing honey from the bees and selling it for their own profit. Vowing to hurt the humans the one place they’ll feel it, Barry brings a legal suit againstthe honey industry and the courtroom drama begins. There are some hysterical moments in the film, as one would expect from a Seinfeld production, and an abundance of one-liners, double-meanings, slapstick humor, and innuendo-laden dialogue that will keep adults guffawing throughout the show. Still, the whole concept of seeing the life of a common pest through non-human eyes is getting repetitive thanks to films likeRatatouille,Flushed Away,Open Season, andOver the Hedge. It should be noted, though, that this first foray into animation by Jerry Seinfeld was four years in production due to its collaborative nature, so its theme may actually have well predated all of the aforementioned films. Children ages 5 and older will love the bees' silly antics, though many of the jokes will go right over their heads and parents should be cautioned about some mildly suggestive humor. More than just a comical film about the life of one very different honeybee,Bee Movieis a social commentary that pokes fun at human behavior while stressing the importance of doing even the most menial job well and championing the power of working together toward a common goal. There's even a lesson to be learned from the bees about controlling one's temper.--Tami Horiuchi

Those who consider the stage musical shallow and overblown probably won't have their minds changed by the movie, and devotees will forever rue that the movie took the better part of two decades to develop, which prevented the casting of original principals Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. Still,The Phantom of the Operais a welcome exception to the long line of ill-conceived Broadway-to-movie travesties.

DVD Features
The special edition ofThe Phantom of the Operahas two major extras. "Behind the Mask: The Story ofThe Phantom of the Opera" is an hourlong documentary tracing the genesis of the stage show, with interviews of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, director Harold Prince, producer Cameron Macintosh, lyricists Richard Stilgoe and Charles Hart, choreographer Gillian Lynne, and others. Conspicuously absent are stars Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford. Both do appear in video clips, including Brightman performing with Colm Wilkinson at an early workshop, and Crawford is the subject of a casting segment. Other brief scenes from the show are represented by a 2001 production. The other major feature is the 45-minute making-of focusing on the movie, including casting and the selection of director Joel Schumacher Both are well-done productions by Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group.

The deleted scene is a new song written by Lloyd Webber and Charles Hart, "No One Would Listen," sung by the Phantom toward the end of the movie. It's a beautiful song that, along with Madame Giry's story, makes him a more sympathetic character. But because that bit of backstory already slowed down the ending, it was probably a good move to cut the song. --David Horiuchi

(Absolute anti-democratic fascist propaganda)
『Please do not buy this movie, it is anti-american and perpetuates a state where only the elite are well off and lower classes are discriminated agains.

1. The hyenas far outnumber the lions. Even though they wanted Scar as the 'president,' the only rightful rulers were from an elitist bloodline. Once Simba comes back, he throws Scar to his death, reminicent of the struggles of the persian Sultans of the 1600's. I do not want my children to learn such things.

2. There were two characters that could be identified as 'black' one of the hyenas, portrayed as low class, filthy and illeterate being. We are forced to hate this character and to chear at their misfortune. Also, you have the baboon, an outcast of society, just left alone to his own non-mainstream (white-society) world view. This shows unabridged bigotry.

4. The evil that is Disney. To try to create an artificial demand for their products Disney only does limited time releases of their movies before they go into the "vault". This way Disney forces your hand into buying their DVD's for fear of never having another chance to buy them again. If you think that is symbolic of a fair market then great, but I know that this ploy is not in place to help out consumers, it is there to squeeze out money from the little guys. Those who want it after it's in they 'vault' are forced into an unriliable and unsafe secondary market.

3. False advertising. Disney advertise a great new song for the DVD release. What they provided us with absolute garbage plain and simple.』

『Disney's THE LION KING SPECIAL EDITION features an all-new song, "Morning Report," and never-before-seen animation, giving you even more of this award-winning masterpiece -- the greatest animated adventure of all time. An unforgettable story, breathtaking animation, beloved characters, and Academy Award(R)-winning music (Best Original Score, 1994; Best Song, "Can You Feel The Love Tonight") set the stage for the adventures of Simba, the feisty lion cub who "just can't wait to be king." But his envious Uncle Scar has plans for his own ascent to the throne, and he forces Simba's exile from the kingdom. Alone and adrift, Simba soon joins the escapades of a hilarious meerkat named Timon and his warmhearted warthog pal, Pumbaa. Adopting their carefree lifestyle of "Hakuna Matata," Simba ignores his real responsibilities until he realizes his destiny and returns to the Pride Lands to claim his place in the "Circle of Life." Now extensively restored and remastered -- experience THE LION KING like never before, from its magnificent musical opening over breathtaking African vistas to its emotional climax. The all-star vocal talents -- including Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Ernie Sabella -- rip-roaring comedy, and uplifting messages of courage, loyalty, and hope make this timeless tale entertainment for all ages.』
『Not an ideal choice for younger kids, this hip and violent animated feature from Disney was nevertheless a huge smash in theaters and on video, and it continues to enjoy life in an acclaimed Broadway production. The story finds a lion cub, son of a king, sent into exile after his father is sabotaged by a rivalrous uncle. The little hero finds his way into the "circle of life" with some new friends and eventually comes back to reclaim his proper place. Characters are very strong, vocal performances by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg are terrific, the jokes are aimed as much (if not more) at adults than kids, the animation is sometimes breathtaking, and the music is more palatable than in many Disney features. But be cautious: this is too intense for theRugratcrowd.--Tom Keogh

How good-looking is the DVD restoration of Disney's popular animated film? Take a look at the serviceable but dull film clips incorporated in the plethora of extras and compare them to the vivid gorgeousness of the film presentation. This "special edition" also adds a 90-second song ("Morning Report") that originated in the lavish stage musical. To Disney's credit, the original theatrical version is also included, both restored and featuring two 5.1 soundtracks: Dolby Digital and a new Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix, which does sound brighter. As with the Disney Platinum line, everything is thrown into the discs, except an outsider's voice (the rah-rahs of Disney grow tiresome at times). The excellent commentary from the directors and producer, originally on the laser disc, is hidden under the audio set-up menu.

The second disc is organized by 20-minute-ish "journeys" tackling the elements of story, music, et cetera, including good background on the awkward Shakespearean origins at Disney where it was referred as "Bamlet." The most interesting journey follows the landmark stage production, and the kids should be transfixed by shots of the real African wildlife in the animal journey. Three deleted segments are real curios, including an opening lyric for "Hakuna Matata." Most set-top DVD games are usually pretty thin (DVD-ROM is where it's at), but the Safari game is an exception--the kids should love the roaring animals (in 5.1 Surround, no less). One serious demerit goes to the needless and complicated second navigation system that is listed by continent, but just shows the same features reordered.--Doug Thomas
『Anybody who struts around with Simba's hard-won authority deserves this royal DVD read-along from Disney. Kids can recoil at Uncle Scar's dastardly deedsen españoland discover that "hakuna matata" sounds pretty much the same in Spanish, French, Italian, or German. And should the dynamic storytelling fail to thrill your 4- to 12-year-old fan, a flurry of other interactive options await. Toggle to "Songs" for sing-along renditions of movie hits, including "I Just Can't Wait to Be King," and on to "Music Videos," where Elton John roars soundtrack favorites "Circle of Life" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and Jimmy Cliff and Lebo M groove to "Hakuna Matata." The "Vocabulary" feature allows for see-and-say mastery of a list of wildlife, while the "Game" section allows players to match paw and hoof prints to the proper beast and reassemble the scattered skeletal remains of an elephant. Original cast voices are featured, and grownups will be pleased by the package's reading component.--Tammy La Gorce

(It is a throwback)
『It is very much like the early episodes of the show but that is the problem. This is the big screen and deserves a bigger and better story. I didnt hate it but it was far from what I expected, especially after the excellent Fight the Future.
My guess is the production costs were cut down a lot and they had to make due. Only a guess.
A solid rental but not one I will be buying.』

(A throwback to the earlier seasons of the show.)
『Here's where I stand on THE X-FILES: I was a fan of the show for the first couple of seasons when every episode was different (remember the Jersey Devil episode and the one about the deformed redneck family?) and before it got really heavy into the same continuous storyline, and I saw the first X-FILES movie a couple of times when it first came out but it's been so long that I barely remember it. So I did enjoy the show, however I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore fan and I wouldn't go so far as to say that this was a highly anticipated movie for me. So, with that out of the way...

In THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE, Mulder (David Duchovny) is living in seclusion and Scully (Gillian Anderson) is now a doctor. They are reunited when the FBI seeks them out for help to find a fellow agent who has gone missing. Mulder and Scully, along with the help of the FBI (with the two primary agents being portrayed by Amanda Peet and rapper Xzibit) and a goofy psychic named Father Joe (portrayed by Billy Connolly), eventually find clues that lead them to something gruesome and disturbing.

Throughout the movie there is a subplot where Scully is going through an ordeal at the hospital she works at involving a sick child who she is trying to save, the child's family, and the "powers that be" of the hospital who refuse to offer any further treatment for the child due to the fact that he suffers from an incurable disease. For most of the FBI investigation, Scully is absent and is faced with the dilemma of going through a radical medical procedure (stem cell) which may or may not help the child but will surely cause him a lot of pain. And then there's the Father Joe character who, while somewhat annoying at first, ultimately won me over due to actor Billy Connolly's charm. Father Joe is interesting in that he has a haunting past and is judged because of it, claims that God talks to him and gives him these psychic visions, and no one believes him except for Mulder.

Overall I enjoyed this film a lot! I really had no desire to see it, and actually decided to watch it just to see Xzibit in a "serious role". This film surprised me and kept my interest throughout. The entire film was definitely a throwback to the first seasons of the show in which they had the whole "Monster of the Week" thing going on which I mentioned earlier. It's basically a standalone Sci-Fi/Thriller with elements of Horror. The chemistry between Duchovny and Anderson is awesome and it's always great to see them back together on screen. Amanda Peet and Xzibit were both pretty good in their roles. It's sort of hinted in the movie that Peet's character has a thing for Mulder, but it never really goes anywhere for reasons I can't really talk about without ruining the movie. Xzibit was more of a background guy who didn't say a whole lot, who's character had a thick exterior to contrast Peet's more easy-going demeanor. And of course Connolly was great as always.

Another thing that I loved about the movie was the Cinematography. It was filmed in Canada during the winter and the snowy scenery and photography in the film was gorgeous. There aren't really any bad things about the movie that I can really think of. The lack of a major villain was a bit disappointing, but the twist at the end more than makes up for it. Obviously I won't say what the twist is, but it most definitely treads the waters of the Horror genre. Also the film isn't really as epic as a TV show-turned-feature length film should be and seemed like it could have been a longer version of a TV episode. Other than that, it was great. Entertaining, great cast, great acting, beautiful Cinematography, great music, nostalgia, and a twist that will satisfy Horror fans. There's also a little something special during the closing credits (with two songs provided by U.N.K.L.E. including a remix of the X-FILES theme) which is kind of cheesy but is still pretty cool to watch.

I've only seen the 1-Disc Version of the DVD so far and the Extra Features are OK. It has a great Commentary track by writer/director Chris Carter and writer Frank Spotnitz. There is also a ten minute Gag Reel, which by the looks of it the cast had a blast making the film. Overall, it's a great film and I would definitely recommend it.

(THE CASE OF THE MISSING AGENT)
『I got a glimpse ahead of time when a retailer accidently had this
movie out on it's shelves. The single disc pkg. pictured above contains
both the theater and directors' cuts of the movie! This is a great bonus
for all X-Files fans.

The movie is decent, but I was left wanting more. Since it has been
so many years since a show/movie was seen. Mulder is a recluse living
off by himself, reminding you of a discarded old school agent who
stepped on too many toes at the F.B.I. A current agent reaches out to
him for help. One of her own is missing with very little clues to go on.
A limb has been found but there is no body, a psychic may know of her
where abouts. Is the psychic for real? Agent Mulder is brought in to
see if he is for real. Fox then reaches out for Agent Scully, "Scully I
need you on this one!"

M.D. Scully has been working at a Catholic hospital where she appears
to be working on neuro patients. She agrees to meet w/Mulder and the
chase is on. This turns out to be a serial killer case with a few
twists. The ending is interesting in development, a comment on science
and research. Mulder places himself in danger - seeking the truth.
Scully saves the day, while a former priest/psychic seeks salvation.』

(A worthwhile endeavor for fans of the show)
『It's been a long time since The X-Files came to an end, and even longer since the release of the first feature film (1998's X-Files: Fight the Future). Maybe that's why I had a good degree of surprise when I heard about creator Chris Carter getting things together for another X-Files film, and even more so when I learned that it would be more akin to the classic, stand-alone episodes that helped define what made the series so great to begin with. Despite many of the negative reviews that it received, The X-Files: I Want to Believe is a worthwhile endeavor for fans of the show, and while not perfect by any means, still manages to satisfy. The film picks up with Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) apart and out of the FBI, until both are drawn back in with a case involving a former priest (Billy Connolly) who claims to have visions when an Agent goes missing under mysterious circumstances. There's no conspiracy abound, just a plot involving some horrific science gone wrong and belief, and the film is all the better for it. The usual cast of X-Files alums aren't present sadly, but Mitch Pileggi does return briefly as FBI director Skinner, and Amanda Peet and rapper Xzibit are on board as the FBI Agents that being Mulder and Scully into the fold. All in all, The X-Files: I Want to Believe is an enjoyable film that is a worthwhile trip for lovers of the show, and just seeing Mulder and Scully together again makes it essential viewing alone.』

(AA I want to believe)
『Don't allow these negative reviews to hold you back from buying or renting this movie.

The simple fact is most people see this movie as the conclusion to a great tv show. It's not. This movie is simply one more x-files episode. Enjoy it.

Keep in mind that whenever a great tv show ends NOBODY likes the final episode. NOBODY liked the last CHEERS. NOBODY liked the last SEINFELD. Our expectations keep us from enjoying it for what it actually is. We have been so spoiled by the PURE GENIUS of Chris Carter.

My first X-Files episode was in 1993 when the show was aired on Friday nights (never should have moved it to Sunday) and the episode was CONDIUT (season 1, episode 3). I was hooked like never before. Every episode was like a mini movie. Fantastic interesting story lines. Awesome music. But most of all the dynamic between Mulder and Scully was spine chilling. These two were meant for each other. (Note: Fox Exec's did not want to use Gillian Anderson...they wanted someone blonder and bigger upstairs if you're picking up what I am throwing down). Carter stuck with Anderson and history was made. The X-Files is without question the greatest TV show ever made.

I say buy or rent "I Want To Believe". Enjoy is for what it is and always know no matter what people like Chris Carter create there will always be some negative people who look for the "browns" in life's rainbow.

Great movie, the best TV show ever, fantastic characters and the best music on tv or screen. The first X-Files movie "Fight The Future" is fantastic too.』

『The feature filmThe X-Files: I Want to Believeis a satisfying if unspectacular installment in theX-Filesseries, taking place an unspecified time after the show's nine-year television run. Former agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) is now a doctor, while Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) is being hunted by his former agency and living in seclusion. He and Scully are summoned back by a case involving a missing agent and a former priest (Billy Connolly) who claims to be able to see clues to the agent's whereabouts psychically, though his initial search turns up only a severed limb. Don't expect the usual cast of characters; the FBI has completely turned over (except for the George W. Bush portrait), and the only reason Scully and Mulder are back is because agent Dakota Whitney (Amanda Peet) remembers his success on similar cases involving the unexplainable. Don't expect the same rogues' gallery either; unlike the previousX-Filesfeature film, which was inextricably linked to the series' convoluted mythology arc (and served as a bridge between the fifth and sixth seasons),I Want to Believeis a stand-alone piece that makes use of the series' roots in horror/sci-fi and moody Vancouver, B.C., locales. Also unlike the previous film, which was almost self-consciously shot for the big screen, this film is on a smaller scale, like a double-length episode of the series. But it's still a good reminder of the creepy vibe that hooked fans for years. And the relationship between Mulder and Scully? It seems to have resumed pretty much where it left off, at least when you take into account the long period of separation. But stick around for the end-credit sequence to take in all the possibilities for the future.--David Horiuchi
