(A great movie made even better on Blu Ray)
『I have always been a big fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas and owned it for years on DVD. Having said that, the difference between the DVD and Blu Ray are tremendous. The blacks are blacker, colors more vibrant and the audio is amazing.

If you are a fan of this film and own a Blu Ray player (and HDTV!) and decent surround sound system, it will quickly become one of your audio showcase movies.』

(I have not received my order)
『Its been more than a month since I ordered this movie but have not received it yet. I have sent an e-mail to amazon.com but I have not heard from them. I would like to know how much longer is going to take for me to receive my order. What happened to it?????』

(one star, but for only one reason....)
『I give it one star for only ONE reason, it doesn't work on my blu ray player. I live in Australia and have had problems only with FOX blu rays... till now.

I'm guessing disney have now begun coding the blu rays too. Either way, it doesn't work on my player, unfortunately... I LOVE THIS FILM!!!』

(An awesome movie!)
『This dvd is still amazing. I really enjoy the quality of the movie. I liked how it is restored. The special features are great too. Just be careful about the digital copy. Disney forgot to include my code so I could access the digital copy. But besides that, I really enjoyed my purchase. I can't wait to watch it again. Love it!』

(The Nightmare Before Christmas)
『Tim Burton has created a masterpiece with The Nightmare Before Christmas.
In the Blu-Ray Format you see the amazing amount of detail that has been painstakingly built into this movie. The color and shadings are more impressive than it has ever been seen in Theaters. The depth looks very
much like the 3D film that was re-released last year. The over all look
including color depth exceeds the 3D version. This is a must own for collectors who want to show off there home theater.』

『Now digitally restored and remastered with state-of-the-art technology, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is deeper, darker and more brilliant than ever just as Tim Burton originally envisioned it. Can Christmas be saved? Bored with the same old scare-and-scream routine, Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, longs to spread the joy of Christmas. But his merry mission puts Santa in jeopardy and creates a nightmare for good little boys and girls everywhere!
Bonus Features
THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is the first full-length stop-motion animated film ever created.
The movie contains more than 227 animated characters.
Santa Claus' head has more than 50 different working parts, and Jack has more than 400 separate interchangeable heads, each handcrafted with a different facial expression.
The smallest working puppet in the movie is a doll from the "real world" Jack visits that is only one inch long.
Sally is wearing a real miniature dress laid on top of foam latex so that the fabric doesn't move too much on screen.
At the height of production, the animators produced only 70 seconds of finished film per week.
To create Halloweentown's twisted look, the design artists often made their sketches using their nondrawing hand.

『For those who never thought Disney would release a film in which Santa Claus is kidnapped and tortured, well, here it is! The full title isTim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, which should give you an idea of the tone of this stop-action animated musical/fantasy/horror/comedy. It is based on characters created by Burton, the former Disney animator best known as the director ofPee-wee's Big Adventure,Beetlejuice,Edward Scissorhands, and the first twoBatmanmovies. His benignly scary-funny sensibility dominates the story of Halloweentown resident Jack Skellington (voice by Danny Elfman, who also wrote the songs), who stumbles on a bizarre and fascinating alternative universe called ... Christmastown! Directed by Henry Selick (who later made the delightfulJames and the Giant Peach), this PG-rated picture has a reassuringly light touch. As Roger Ebert noted in his review, "some of the Halloween creatures might be a tad scary for smaller children, but this is the kind of movie older kids will eat up; it has the kind of offbeat, subversive energy that tells them wonderful things are likely to happen."--Jim Emerson

『Disney's 1959 animated effort was the studio's most ambitious to date, a widescreen spectacle boasting a gorgeous waltz-filled score adapting Tchaikovsky. In the 14th century, the malevolent Maleficent (not dissimilar to the wicked Queen in Disney'sSnow White and the Seven Dwarfstaunts a king that his infant Aurora will fatally prick her finger on a spinning wheel before sundown on her 16th birthday. This, of course, would deny her a happily-ever-after with her true love. Things almost but not quite turn out that way, thanks to the assistance of some bubbly, bumbling fairies named Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. It's not really all that much about the title character--how interesting can someone in the middle of a long nap be, anyway? Instead, those fairies carry the day, as well as, of course, good Prince Phillip, whose battle with the malevolent Maleficent in the guise of a dragon has been co-opted by any number of animated films since. See it in its original glory here. And Malificent's castle, filled with warthogs and demonic imps in a macabre dance celebrating their evil ways, manages a certain creepy grandeur. --David Kronke

On the Blu-ray

Sleeping Beautywas the last and most lavish of Walt Disney's animated fairy tales. He told the artists not to hurry and to give him "a moving illustration": The film required almost four and one-half years and one million finished drawings. Instead of the 19th century storybook illustrations that had influenced the look ofSnow WhiteandPinocchio, the artists adapted the flattened perspective and jewel-like colors of 15th century French illuminated manuscripts. The results remain unmatched for sheer visual opulence. However,Sleeping Beautysuffers from a weak story: the vision of an ageless princess slumbering in a vine-shrouded tower was replaced with elements ofSnow Whiteand a boy-meets-girl musical. The evil Maleficent and the three Good Fairies (Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather) dominate the film, rather than Princess Aurora and Prince Philip.Sleeping Beautywas originally released in 70mm, and the Blu-ray edition restores the film to its original splendor. (Many earlier releases trimmed the wide-screen images and/or muted the glowing palatte.) The Bonus DVD looks good on a flat screen monitor, but it pales in comparison to the richness of the Blu-ray. In addition to the commentaries and a making-of documentary, the set includes myriad extras that vary widely in quality. Nostalgia buffs will enjoy the recreation of the old Sleeping Beauty's Castle attraction in Disneyland, and the TV program "Four Artists Paint One Tree" provides a welcome showcase for key talents from the film. But the CG animation of the dragon and the voice imitations of the Good Fairies fail to capture the magic of the originals in the "Dragon Encounter"; the "Maleficent's Challenge Game"--a hi-tech Twenty Questions--sounds only vaguely like the redoubtable sorceress. The BD-Live features require an awful lot of bother: after wading through (or ignoring) 130 screens of legalese, participants must enter their Social Security number or other personal information in the drawn-out sign-on process. Once that's finally done, viewers can send special messages to pop up during the film, chat online with others who are watching, and view it in synch with others. The question is whether or not you want to. (Rated G: violence)--Charles Solomon

(Episodes, not movies!!!)
『With the exception of the first movie Bender's Big Score, the Futurama movie formula has shown (sadly) that it just doesn't work. Both Bender's Game and the even worse Beast with a Billion Backs feel like exercises in padding out an episode to make it reach that magic 90 minute running time. When do we get to the plot??!! - I kept asking myself as I watched these last two installments, as pointless diversion built upon pointless diversion. The simple and sad fact is that these movies feel like a Futurama episode with all the deleted scenes left in. And there are other writing problems too - where is the character development, or humor that comes from the characters? Bender's Game has an interesting message about fuel shortages, but that just gets buried in all the padding - the entire dungeons and dragons fantasy bit is a complete detour from the plot. And unlike the first film, which delved into Leela and Fry's relationship, Bender's Game gives us zilch, while the previous movie just undermines the first one by having Fry forget all about his love for Leela. In Bender's Game, even Bender goes off on some pointless detour in search of his imagination - somewhat ironic considering the quality of writing here. Futurama fans, Fox simply isn't going to commission more of this, or a feature-film - not after seeing the last two films. The only way to save Futurama is to campaign for a fresh season of episodes - that is where Futurama belongs and that is where it shines. If they wanted to stick to this formula, they could release DVD sets of four episodes at a time. These movies are making me turn against a show I have loved for so long, and that is sad. Episodes, not movies!!!!』

(Not the best of the three, but a must have)
『I am a huge Futurama fan so this was a must have. I only watched this one once so far and it wasn't my favorite of the three. There was no hint at a possible end to Fry's love for Leela. The whole plot was very far fetched. There were some good parts and it made funny references to another hit movie, but I would say that this is by far not the funniest of three movies. I also didn't notice many scientific or mathmatical references for us nerds.』

(Not what I was hoping for)
『I've been a Futurama fan since Day 1, and I eagerly anticipate the release of any new material. This one, though, doesn't live up to the franchise. The plot is disjointed and makes no sense. There's a noble tradition of that in Futurama, though, so that's not really a strong criticism of the movie. The real problem is that it's just not funny. It's not even particularly interesting. If you condensed the best parts of this movie into a single 22 minute episode, it would still be one of the worst Futurama episodes made. Any real fan is going to buy it anyway, no doubt, but I really don't think they'll be watching it as often as they watch the others.』

(Stink-O-Rama)
『This is a poor excuse for a Futurama movie, it does not do justice to the series and is just poor writing. Its a huge waste of time. If you recieve this as a gift because you have all the others, or you are obsessive about collecting all the stuff FOX puts out (even with lame packaging that scratches the disc) then buy it. Its a non sensical hodge podge of ideas that dont make much sense.』

(Big time Futurama fan)
『I love the Futurama series, and this is the first of the new movies that really felt like the Futurama that I know and love. This is by far the best of the three, and I recommend it highly to any fans that have been disappointed by the first two movies.』
『With fuel prices skyrocketing, the Planet Express crew sets off on a dangerous mission: to infiltrate the world's only dark-matter mine, source of all spaceship fuel. But deep beneath the surface lies a far stranger place... a medieval land of dragons and sorcery and intoxicated knights who look suspiciously like Bender. So park your hover-car and saddle up your unicorn for Futurama's grandest adventure yet: BENDER'S GAME!』
『At once a merciless skewering of all things fanboy and an extremely satisfying addition to theFuturamafranchise,Bender's Gameis among the best of the animated series' feature length adventures. The game in question is Dungeons and Dragons, and Bender wants in--only robots aren't programmed with the necessary imagination. Naturally, Bender's plans to develop one go completely awry and land him in an android asylum. The role-playing plotline later re-emerges--in typically convolutedFuturamafashion--via a subplot involving Professor Farnsworth's conversion of dark matter into spaceship fuel, which created a key to a very D&D-influenced universe where our hapless heroes eventually find themselves. The alternate world storyline allows for much lampooning of fantasy tropes, withLord of the Ringsreceiving the lion's share of the tweaks. Seeing as how the writers have already devoted much of the movie's running time to parodyingStar WarsandStar Trek(and their Lego offshoots), one might think thatBender's Gamemight suffer from pop-culture overload, but surprisingly, it all feels fresh and frequently funny, and the writers are wise to ground the story in their eccentric characters rather than pinballing them through an endless string of gags. The result is probably the strongest of the direct-to-DVDFuturamareleases to date, and one that newcomers to the show's cracked universe can appreciate as much as longtime fans.As with previousFuturamaDVD releases, the extras come fast and furious onBender's Game: commentary by members of the cast and production team (including Matt Groening) is both informative and funny, while interviews with the writers and producers discuss, among other topics, the influence of Dungeons and Dragons on the series and the 3D models used in the feature. Aspiring animators might appreciate "How To DrawFuturamain 83 Easy Steps and the storyboard animatic for the first part of the story, while the "Genetics Lab" feature allows for some amusing Dr. Moreau-style cross-breeding of the characters. Recording session bloopers and a deleted scene offer their own laughs, but the most enjoyable extra must be the preview for the nextFuturamafeature,Into the Wild Green Yonder, which suggests a shocking development for one of the show's regulars.-- Paul Gaita

(Laugh Out Loud Hilarious! (A- Grade))
『Tropic Thunder is one of the best movies of 2008 that I had a ball watching. There are some of Hollywood's best actors in Tropic Thunder to include Robert Downey Jr., who is nearly unrecognizable as Australian actor, Kirk Lazarus, playing African American, Sgt. Osiris, where he has dyed his skin dark and doesn't break away from the character throughout the whole movie. Everyone has talked about Heath Ledger's incredible and mind blowing role as The Joker in The Dark Knight, but Robert Downey Jr. also deserves a lot of praise, and a possible Oscar award nomination for best acting in this role. Surprisingly, Tom Cruise steps out of his comfort zone playing a fat, balding, cursing, movie studio executive, Les Grossman, who steals every scene he is in. Also along for this crazy ride is Jack Black, a drug addicted comedy actor, and Matthew McConaughey, who plays Ben Stiller's agent, and is extremely funny as he is gorgeous. I usually find Ben Stiller a bit annoying in his roles, but here he perfectly embodies the role he is playing, Tugg Speedman, a washed up action star.

Tropic Thunder is about making a movie based on the Vietnam War. The director, Steve Coogan is fed up with his whiny, egotistical actors, and with the help of Nick Nolte, who plays the Vietnam vet the movie is based on, drop the actors in the middle of the jungle to fend for themselves. That is where the fun really begins. Jack Black runs out of heroin, or jelly beans as he calls them, and starts going through detox. Plus, the actors find themselves in the territory of a heroin-producing Vietcong gang, but don't think any of that is real because they still think they are filming the movie.

There are not many comedies like Tropic Thunder that can make me laugh so hard that my stomach hurts. There are also some shockingly funny scenes such as Ben Stiller killing a panda bear and wearing the panda head on his own head because he has gone crazy ala Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now.

Or the conversation Kirk and Tugg have about why Forest Gump and Rain Man did so well for those actors playing mentally handicapped roles, but because Ben played a role where he went full out "retard", it was meant to bomb:

Kirk Lazarus: Everybody knows you never go full retard.
Tugg Speedman: What do you mean?
Kirk Lazarus: Check it out. Dustin Hoffman, 'Rain Man,' look retarded, act retarded, not retarded. Counted toothpicks, cheated cards. Autistic, sho'. Not retarded. You know Tom Hanks, 'Forrest Gump.' Slow, yes. Retarded, maybe. Braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon and won a ping-pong competition. That ain't retarded. Peter Sellers, "Being There." Infantile, yes. Retarded, no. You went full retard, man. Never go full retard. You don't buy that? Ask Sean Penn, 2001, "I Am Sam." Remember? Went full retard, went home empty handed...

And of course the way Robert played his role of the Sergeant so perfectly to the point he began to think he truly is a black man lost in the jungle:

Kirk Lazarus: I know what dude I am. I'm the dude playin' the dude, disguised as another dude!
Kirk Lazarus: Man, I don't drop character 'till I done the DVD commentary.

*This is true because I listened to the dvd commentary, and Robert made sure to stay in his role as Osiris*

Tropic Thunder may not be a masterpiece of filmmaking but it is one movie you can have such a great time watching.

Katiebabs』

(It would have been OK (just OK) if it were not for the foul language)
『I didn't see this in a theater and I am glad I didn't waste the money. Lots of potty humor and way way too much foul language just for the sake of foul language. It could have been made with much less bad language and been funnier. I gave the movie away to a friend (hope we are still friends after he watches it). Please say there won't be a sequel.

(Get Some)
『Obscene, offensive and totally hilarious. "Tropic Thunder" takes an affectionate brickbat to Hollywood's affair with action heroes and war movies, referencing movies as diverse as Platoon and Eddie Murphy's...Nutty Professor!?! Yes, it really does jump all over the cinematic map. It is not as inept a parody as some of the Scary Movie series or knock-offs, which has a lot to do with the script and Ben Stiller's direction.

"Tropic Thunder" stays on a tight leash, filling moments with satirical jabs at both the films in the genre but at the actors themselves. Robert Downey's "blacker-than-you" transformation from a Russell Crowe bad-boy to Richard Roundtree/Fred Williamson blaxploitation star takes stabs at method acting ("I don't break character until after the DVD commentary!") and are the funniest in the movie. But there's nothing more outrageous than Tom Cruise, head shaved and body latexed, as an obnoxious studio head. He steals every scene he pops up in and reminds us all just how effective an actor he is when he isn't jumping up and down on TV couches.

It's the cast that really makes the script work. Everyone in every role plays like an ace, from Stiller, Downey, Jack Black, Jay Baruchel (Kevin Sandusky) and Brandon T. Jackson as rapper Alpa Chino to the support roles filled by the likes of Nick Nolte, Steve Coogan and Tobey McGuire. There's hardly a thing in "Tropic Thunder" that doesn't work, although the easily offended might have their gag reflexes tested by "Satan's Alley," "Simple Jack" or "Half-Squat." As far as taking the wizz out of itself, the only movie of the last few years to match "tropic Thunder" has been The Simpsons Movie. As far as I'm concerned, that's pretty good company.』

(Good movie, extras aren't a value)
『Tropic Thunder is a hiliarious satire of Hollywood. Unfortunately, the extras that are provided with this DVD aren't worth the extra disk enclosed. After viewing the missing and extended scenes, I'm happy that the director chose to remove those parts from the film; they didn't add to the storyline. All-in-all, happy I purchased the DVD.』

(Blu-ray was fantastic, movie not at all what I expected.)
『Rarely do I watch movies on the big screen when they first come out. My 55" HDTV, Sony Home Theatre system, and Blu-ray DVD player, provide a much more enjoyable experience than going to the theatre and paying an arm and a leg to sit in stained sticky seats. Although I currently get most of my movies from a popular online rental service, I will buy the ones I enjoy and/or think I'll watch more than once.

Well, after all the hype about Tropic Thunder I came close to purchasing this movie sight unseen. It looked hysterical in the previews and friends who saw it said it was hilarious. Boy am I glad that I got it as a rental first because it was not at all what I expected and to tell you the truth I was kind of disappointed in it. From the reviews, and from what people had said about the movie, I expected it to be much funnier and less serious than it turned out to be. I think I was expecting "Stripes" 2008 and I was shocked when I didn't even chuckle during the first half hour. In fact the first seen was so disgusting that I almost turned the movie off. The reproduction of gore for accuracy, as in Private Ryan, is bearable but the reproduction of war-related gore in an attempt at humor is completely unnecessary and in this case disgusting.

So, I thought "it's a slow starter" but it never did get what I consider truly funny. In addition, I must've missed the "slap-stick" that other reviewers have mentioned. Finally, to compare it to Blazing Saddles is so much of a stretch it's unbelievable. Tropic Thunder is not in any way similar to the afforementioned gut-busting Mel Brooks film. To me, I would classify it more as an action film with a dab of humor thrown into the mix. I expected a lot more from what I'd heard and from Ben Stiller.

On the other hand, the Blu-Ray version of this film is unbelievable. The Blu-ray format really lends itself to the many hues of jungle scenery.』

『Studio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 11/18/2008 Run time: 120 minutes Rating: Ur』
『It's not really a knock to say that nothing inTropic Thunderis funnier than its first five minutes, so sly that--especially for people watching in theaters--you don't realize right away theyarethe opening minutes of the movie. This outrageous comedy begins with a series of fake previews, each introducing one of the main characters in the film-proper (not that there's anything proper about this film) and each bearing the familiar logo of a different motion picture studio: Universal, DreamWorks SKG, et al. Such playing fast and loose with corporate talismans verges on sacrilege, but it's an index of how much le tout Tinseltown endorses the movie as a demented valentine to itself. The premise is that the cast of a would-be "Son of Rambo" movie shooting in some Southeast Asian jungle get into a real shooting war with drug-smuggling montagnards. Don't ask--though the movie does have an answer--why such highly paid, usually ultra-pampered personnel as superhero Tugg Speedman (Ben Stiller), Mozart of fart comedy Jeff Portnoy (Jack Black), hip-hop artist Alpa Chino (Brandon T. Jackson), and five-time Oscar-winner Kirk Lazarus from Aus-try-leeah (Robert Downey Jr.) should be running through the jungle unattended and very vulnerable. It matters only that the real-life cast has a high time kidding their own profession and flexing their comedic muscles. Bonus points go to Stiller for co-writing the script (with Justin Theroux) and directing, and to Downey, brilliant as a white actor surgically turned black actor for his role and utterly committed to staying in character no matter what ("I don't drop character till I done the DVD commentary").

Be warned: The movie, too, is committed--to being an equal-opportunity offender. Its political incorrectness extends not only to Lazarus's black-like-me posturing but also Speedman's recent, Sean Penn–style Oscar bid playing a cognitively challenged farmboy--or, in Lazarus's deathless phrase, "going the full retard." Others in the cast include Steve Coogan as a director out of his depth, Nick Nolte as the Viet-vet novelist whose book inspired the film-within-the-film, Matthew McConaughey as Speedman's sun-blissed agent back home, and Tom Cruise--bald, fat-suited, and profane--as an epically repulsive studio head. Two hours running time is a mite excessive, but otherwise, what's not to like?--Richard T. Jameson

『Simply put, this is one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's a movie to make one think, make one review life, and; yes, make one cry. My husband and I had been hesitant to view this film because it had received such negative reviews. Finally today I decided to watch 'Bucket List' because I knew, deep down, Morgan Freeman would not make 'junk'. I was right.

This isn't a movie for kids, this isn't a movie for teens, nor most people in their 20's. This is a movie for the more mature of us, the people who know life WILL have an end, the people who know the disappointment of unfulfilled dreams. This is a movie to cry over, and to laugh over. If you're a person 'of an age' I can say no more than, please do yourself a favor, SEE THIS MOVIE.』

(Great Movie)
『I saw this movie at the movie theater with a friend and rented it for my husband. He loved it so much he bought it and I sent one to my dad for a present and he and my mom loved it.』

(Good actors in a too "feel good" move)
『Disappointing, I'd say. Very good actors in a somewhat predicatble all too "feel good" film. We rented it - I wouldn't buy it. I'd give it 2 and a half stars if I could.』

(A slow starter that redeems itself with a nice twist at the ending.)
『As a long-time fan of Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, I expected to see some strong performances from these two great actors. Although they didn't live up to some of their earlier great roles, neither were they disappointing. Both did yeoman's work in their roles as aging men from very different life backgrounds, one phenomenally rich and the other a humble laborer, who found common ground in their battle with terminal cancer. Both are forced, without regard to wealth or social status, to come to grips with both their own mortality and their past failings.

The first half hour or so of the movie was less than gripping, and at times maybe even a little tedious, but once it moves into the meat of the storyline it takes on a new life (although even at this it seems a bit too contrived and just missed a fourth star). In their quest to live full lives in their last remaining months, and thus to try to undo a lifetime of squandered opportunities, they stumble upon something far more valuable -- true self-understanding, true friendship, and, most importantly, redemption.

I hate spoilers, so I won't give any clues except to say that the end of this frequently humorous, frequently poignant tale is delightfully unexpected and equally poetic. This is not a great movie, but I would characterize it as a good one that will, or at least should, prompt each viewer to stop and think about his or her own approach to life, and to pursue the most important things while there's still time.』

(A Truely Moving Comedy)
『This movie was so good. it made me cry at the end of the film. Jack Nicholson&Morgan Freeman go good together like Walter Mathawe&Jack Lemon. This was a very good touching movie.』
『You only live once, so why not go out in style? That’s what two cancer- ward roommates, an irascible billionaire (Jack Nicholson) and a scholarly mechanic (Morgan Freeman), decide when they get the bad news. They compose a bucket list – things to do before you kick the bucket – and head off for the around-the-world adventure of their lives. Skydive? Check. Power a Shelby Mustang around a racetrack? Check. Gaze at the Great Pyramid of Khufu? Check. Discover the joy in their lives before it’s too late? Check! Under the nimble direction of Rob Reiner, the two great stars provide the heart and soul, wit and wiles of this inspired salute tolife that proves that the best time of all is right now.』
『"You measure yourself by the people who measure themselves by you," says the quietly wise Carter Chambers, played with gravitas and grace by a Morgan Freeman. In Rob Reiner's moving, often hilarious filmThe Bucket List, all sorts of people measure themselves against the two heroes, Chambers and his hospital suitemate, Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson). But as Cole finds, having spent his entire life building a Fortune 500 company, none of that much matters when cancer, the great equalizer, pays a visit. The film traces the adventures of the two unlikely friends, who meet in a hospital cancer ward, each given six months to live. The "bucket list" of the title refers to a lifelong list of goals that a teacher of Chambers once advised him to compile--and achieve--"before you kick the bucket." Soon the two are off on what may be the last grand adventure of their life, vowing to tick off as many goals (skydiving, race-car driving, seeing the wonders of the world) as they can in the time they have left. What starts as a medical melodrama becomes a road trip, yet the men's mortality realities are never far from thought. The two leads give impressive performances, and remind the viewer of just how few American films focus on the lives and loves of senior citizens. Nicholson even manages to lose his persona in his character, much as he did inAbout Schmidt. There's a lovely John Mayer tune, "Say (What You Need to Say)," that's perfectly matched to the film's clear-eyed view of life: What does one person leave behind as his true legacy? --A.T. Hurley

(As Fun as the first 2 Shrek Movies)
『Sadly for a short animated special, Shrek the Halls is better than Shrek the 3rd. I mean where were these writers when that movie was being made ?

It has the same humor that made the first and 2nd movies good. Plus, thank god there's no sign of the unfunny Artie (Justin Timberlake). Hopefully they get Shrek 4 right, like they got this right. Hopefully they leave out Artie as well! The only bad thing about Shrek the Halls is that it isn't longer. It's only a half hour.』

(CHRISTMAS COLLECTION MUST)
『If you loved the movies you will love this tiny epic for Christmas. Really a fun packed 30 minutes.Story does have a moral meaning. And Donkey is still Donkey!』

(Too Short for the $ but HYSTERICAL Classic Shrek)
『It is Shrek after all...so of course well made, hysterical and a must have...but for $9 on iTunes why pay this price + shipping? It is only 22 minutes long but a must have in SOME format for any Shrek fan...』

(Fast and condensed comedy...)
『$11 at Wal-Mart I thought was reasonable considering it is the Christmas season. Who didn't see this DVD hitting the shelves this season after last season's TV kick off of this newest Shrek installment? This DVD will be in the $5 rack after Christmas not because it's bad but it is seasonal.

With that being said, when I watched STH's last year initially I thought it was hilarious, and witty with the same style of comedy Shrek is known for. A lot of funny stuff was put into the 30 minute program and I like that because it speeds up the good times and gives you a lot of bang for the buck. If you like the other 3 Shrek movies this one will be no disappointment. I DVR'd it last year and my 2 1/2 year old daughter also loves it about literally 50X's worth. Very enjoyable and worth the price of admission................』

(Suck the halls)
『Oaky the movie itself was not that bad it is shrek after all so it has to be good. I was looking forwarded to adding this to the other movies for a complete shrek collection. But I felt the story was rushed and should have been extended to make it worthy of the other movies&worth paying for. I got it on sale for $13.99 and even that was TOO much to pay for only a 22min show! It should have been cheaper or the movie should have been longer.』

(George Lucas sells out in a galaxy far, far away (but, this time, in a less aggravating way)...)
『Three and a half stars for this one.

- 1st battle droid (during a heavy skirmish): "Concentrate fire on sector 11374265!"
- 2nd battle droid: "One, one, three... seven... What was that again?"

For a bit now, I've nursed a mad-on at George Lucas and his bungling of the Star Wars universe. But, in retrospect and after some years removed, the Star Wars prequel trilogy doesn't quite seem as awful as I thought (although Jar Jar Binks - grrrr!). Star Wars - Episode III, Revenge of the Sith (Widescreen Edition) went a long way to atoning for some of the sabotage done. Anyway, given that Lucas had already jumped the shark in a galaxy far, far away, I still wanted to approach STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS with a less prejudiced perspective, and this mindset pays off. Thanks to my super power of compartmentalizing, I actually had a good time watching this animated feature.

Chronologically, STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS takes place between Star Wars - Episode II, Attack of the Clones (Widescreen Edition) and EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH. It also sets the stage for the new STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS animated television series on the Cartoon Network. As the movie opens, the Republic is at war with the Separatists. Even as Obi-Wan Kenobi is charged with negotiating a safe passage treaty with the galactic crime lord, Jabba the Hutt, who controls the Outer Rim shipping routes, Anakin Skywalker and his new, enthusiastic Padawan learner, Ahsoka Tano, go on a mission to rescue Jabba's abducted baby. Of course, this is exactly what the traitorous Count Dooku is counting on.

The vast leaps in moviemaking f/x seem to have an adverse effect in Lucas's storytelling ability. As one improves, the other degenerates. There's no escaping that THE CLONE WARS is strictly vanilla. It takes on the sensibilities of those old matinee serial movies, meaning that it's mostly a series of non-stop action sequences stretching out a bare bones plot. Basically, it's platoon after platoon of battle droids getting smashed, with the film occasionally breaking away to feature lightsaber throwdowns. Obviously pandering more towards younglings, it's no surprise that the movie feels shallow and that character development is quickly defenestrated. And, although the film serves to fill in some gaps during the Clone Wars, nothing really significant crops up to contribute to the Star Wars mythos. Not to mention, John Williams' classic theme score is woefully neglected. But, okay, for what it is, the film is nicely done and it succeeds on its objective, which is to draw in an audience for the then upcoming television cartoon series. For older Star Wars geeks, THE CLONE WARS is something to watch with the brain on park. I cringed a bit, though, during the opening moments, when that newsy voice-over goes into its monologue, ala STARSHIP TROOPERS.

Huge chunks of screen time are given to Anakin and his spirited 14-year-old apprentice. They make a hotheaded duo, and their constant, infantile bickerings serve to undermine the film, but, again, the kids will probably beg to differ. I shudder each time Ahsoka refers to Anakin as "Sky Guy" (he calls her "Snips"), although that's just another element of their older brother/younger sister dynamics.

Although many relevant characters from the live action films appear, it's disconcerting that so few of the original actors lend their voices to this film. In Hayden Christensen's case, this is probably a good thing, as less of him equates to fewer apoplexies suffered by the viewers. Samuel J. Jackson, Christopher Lee and Anthony Daniels do show up, and their voices are invaluable. The CG animation here is angular and stylized. In its look, it veers away from the animation style of the 2003 CLONE WARS television micro-series (see Star Wars - Clone Wars, Vol. 1). In a way, it more resembles the marionette style of those 1960s Thunderbirds shows, although, thankfully, the animation here is much, much more fluid. It's no Pixar material, but I kinda dug it.

Boil it down? STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS offers a subpar story but sort of makes up for it with pretty cool battle sequences and decent animation. I even grew fond of Ahsoka Tano, who, in her eagerness and recklessness, is much like Anakin when he was younger. Probably why they end up getting along. As usual, there's that blend of panoramic space opera and Jedi mysticism. Death rays and magic swords. And the battle robots get the funniest lines.

But what happens to Ahsoka Tano that we don't see her in REVENGE OF THE SITH? Or did I miss something?』

(Dear George Lucas)
『STOP SCREWING WITH THIS FRANCHISE, I BEG YOU. Episodes 4 - 6 practically re-invented the sci-fi genre, but then Episodes 1 - 3 took a serious downturn, due in no small part to the mis-casting of Hayden Christensen and also the violation of what you had set up in 4 - 6. George, what was the point of this film? Where in the timeline of the series does this movie fall? Why didn't we see Anakin's padawan in any of the live-action films? Why have plot and character been sacrificed at the altar of the aciton sequence? Granted, this is an animated movie, which usually means a kid's movie, and with their short attention spans, things have to be kept moving, but understand their parents are the same people who saw Episdoes 4 - 6 when they were kids themselves and are ruining it for them. You are ruining this once-great franchise, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STOP SCREWING WITH IT!!! Thank you.

PS: May the Force be with you again, because you've certainly lost it.』

(Star Wars: The Clone Wars)
『Most fans of the Star Wars movies will enjoy this animated filler that gives us some background information about what happened between Star Wars Episode II and III. The graphics won't impress you to the point you say, wow that's good, but they are decent enough that you shouldn't mind watching them. The storyline is also good enough to hold the interest of most people that liked the movies. Worth at least a rental. Good quality DVD with some replayability. If you enjoyed this catch "The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury".

(Cartoon Network show is excellent)
『Let me first start out by saying I am a 100% Star Wars fanboy. I own zero movies on DVD/Blu-Ray except for anything Star Wars.

That being said, I thought that it was a good idea for Lucasfilm animation to release a movie to promote/kick-off the Cartoon Network series. This movie, however, was not their best effort. I usually think everything that comes out of the Lucas camp is gold, but this one was way below average. A big miss people
Like other reviewers have stated, the story was very poor. I mean all the great writers from the expanded universe books and this is the best they can do? I love the prequel era books. I have read too may to count. Almost all of them are just fantastic. They have great characters unlike Asoka. I want her gone now. The "Skyguy" nickname made me cringe. It was the worst.

Enough about the bad, let's talk about the good. I have watched every episode of the Cartoon Network show on TV and it is just great. Why didn't they make the storyline for the movie like the series? They have the feel of Star Wars and I can't wait till they are released on Blu-Ray. Great job Lucasfilm animation on the network series. They are phenomenal. Now just collect all the remaining copies of the Clone Wars animated movie and bury them in the desert ala "E.T." the game.
May we never speak of this again.』

(Back to the Future)
『The August 2008 release is set between Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. It is a stand-alone story and - crucially - was designed as an introduction to a weekly animated TV series of the same name.

The animation-style has the look of Ja
