(Some Spoilers)) 『After sitting through some rather lackluster Marvel adaptations, such as the overrated "Spider-man" and "X-Men" films, I sat to watch "Iron Man" with cautious optimism. And it proved to be worthwhile. This is, without a doubt, the best adaptation of a Marvel comic book character to date. Dispensing with over-serious storylines, such as in "Spider-man 2" and "The Hulk," the story never takes itself too seriously, bringing the fun and excitement back to the superhero movie. The storytelling, visual effects and action sequence all deliver. And the performances? What can I say? Robert Downey, Jr. is perfectly cast as Tony Stark, the playboy/weapons seller turned superhero. His performance is truly believable and clever, and gives this superhero movie its heart. The supporting cast, including Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges, plus a cameo appearance by Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, add to the film's richness. After what seemed like an eternity, a Marvel superhero film truly delivers! If you enjoy superhero films, then "Iron Man" will blow you away! Director Jon Favreau geeks out in fun ways with the hardware, but never lets it overpower the movie, and there's always a goofy one-liner or a slapstick pratfall around to break the tension. As for Downey, he doesn't get to jitterbug around too much in his improv way, but he brings enough of his unpredictable personality to keep the thing fresh. And listen up, hardcore Marvel mavens: even if you know the Stan Lee cameo is coming, you won't be able to guess it until it's on the screen. Although the Blu-ray does not contain 'Secrets of the Furious Five'; if you have seen this short story you are not missing anything engrossing.』 (Incredibly average) 『Just sat through this with my kids. Great picture and sound - lame movie, for kids and adults. Same predictable story line, seems like a half effort. Jack Black bores the crap out me. You never get the feeling this is anything more than celebrities voicing another underwhelming animation. Save your time and see Toy Story, Cars, The Incredibles or Finding Nemo again.』 (Skadoosh!) 『Animated films rely heavily on the appeal of the actors voicing the various characters. Get a group of them who could care less about the material and you'll get a quick-to-DVD release (see Shark Tale). But get a bunch that really gets into it, and you can capture lightning in a bottle. It's happened before. I consider Finding Nemo and Hoodwinked! to be the prime examples of this type of success. And KUNG FU PANDA now resides in close company with them. Whomever cast Kung Fu Panda deserves some serious recognition. All of the voice characters, without exception, were perfect for their animal type. From Dustin Hoffman's wise Shifu and Angelina Jolies rough Tigress to Jackie Chan (as Monkey), Seth Rogan (as Mantis), Lucy Liu (as Viper) and the unforgettable Jack Black as Po the Kung Fu Panda, every one of them were awesome shining lights of pure ...um ...awesomeness. The story is standard fodder: a nobody Panda (Jack Black) seems destined to follow in his father's footsteps as a shlepper of noodle dishes. But Po (the Panda) has always been infatuated with the Kung Fu masters. And when a call comes down from on-high that a new master is being chosen, Po rushes to the tower to find out who it might be (will it be Tigress? Or Viper? Or one of the others?). Surprisingly it turns out to be the rotund and out-of-shape Po. Training begins and Po is neither liked nor respected by any of the Kung Fu fighters (yes, the song is in there, too, of course). But once Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) learns how to motivate Po, the training begins in earnest. Problems arise, however, when word spreads that an enemy of the Kung Fu lands has escaped his prison and whomever the new Kung Fu Master might be will have to deal with him. The antics and battles are funny and epic. Using his blubbery size, Po often bounces his way to success, or eats his way into the audience's heart (particularly funny is when he finds a stash of cookies in a high cabinet and does a perfect split in order to reach them and gobble `em down). It is a telling story that shows us you don't have to be some foxy 007 type in order to succeed. Using your natural abilities often times allows you all the power you'll need. And Jack Black's sloth-like nature was a perfect fit for Po and those who enjoyed Kung Fu Panda. Skadoosh!』 (Dreamworks at its best) 『Disney who? Dreamworks offers up another great family movie (there is almost no such thing as "kids movies" anymore unless they are educational!). Kung fu Panda, also known as Po, gives us a chance to see that an unlikely hero can save the day and understand a message that the best of the best can't always see. There are tons (pun intended) of laughs, adventure and the thrill of rooting for the underdog. This is a movie for the kid in all of us (much as Shrek has become) and yet another gold star for Jack Black's comedy stylings.』 (DreamWorks delivers on family friendly animated feature) 『DreamWorks seems to have struck gold with this nice family friendly film. Top-notch animation, a humorous performance that isn't too silly and a great story about finding the Dragon Master from within shine through on the disc-based version of this film (at least it shines very nicely on the Blu-ray disc). As some have noted the Blu-ray package unfortunately doesn't include all of the material of the DVD package, but it doesn't mean those with Blu-ray players shouldn't grab this excellent disc. The animation comes through extremely well and the level of detail in this Blu-ray rivals that of a disc I would previously have called reference quality (the Disney movie about a rat named Remy ;-)). However, I did find Walle to be cute and I liked the interraction with him and Eve. But then, it struck me as too preachy. Humans are now so lazy they have lost the ability to walk, drink food from cups, and have no interraction with eachother, living on a ship in space because they have ruined Earth with too much trash. Save me the lefty liberal BS and ENTERTAIN ME, please!!!!』 (Great film worth buying) 『I don't buy DVDs that often but I HAD to buy WALL*E since it was such a wonderful, moving film. I cried 2 times in the theater release of this film and did the same when watching at home. Call me an old softie, but I loved this film. Definitely a good buy at this price!』 (Not a movie to begin a child's movie-going experience.) 『After a co-worker recommended this movie, we took our three year old son to see his first movie in a theater. He loves Toy Story, Spongebob and Madagascar to name a few. I'm not saying the movie isn't good for older children. I'm just saying we don't recommend this for a child who's attention span isn't long enough to withstand the periods of time where there isn't much going on in the movie. We were expecting more of a fast pace and colorful movie. The movie had a lot dull, dark moments that didn't keep your attention as well as we had expected. 』 (Good Movie, Flawed Product) 『Don't get me wrong, I love the Wall-E movie. In fact, it is one of the best movies I have ever seen. However, it is with this 'Wall-E (Three-Disc Special Edition + Digital Copy)' that I have issues. Now please note that although I am in Australia, I have bought dozens of DVDs from Amazon, 100% of which I have been able to view without problems on my computer, using either Power DVD or Windows Media Player. This Wall-E 3 Disc Edition, however, will not run at all on my computer, not on Power DVD or Windows Media Player. All it does is cycle through all the chapters in a few seconds, and then returns to the menu. To add injury to insult, Disc 3, the digital copy of the movie, when I type in the redemption code, mocks me by saying that I don't live in the USA, so my registration is invalid. I am not aware of any such warning mentioned in the sales blurb. Conclusion: good movie, completely flawed product. The only part that worked was the Disc 2, the extras. Hmm, helpful...』 (wonderful, special edition worth it) 『Great DVD to pick up, high replay value. The cardboard packaging is iffy but consistent with the movie (one would have difficulty imagining landfill/carbon-unfriendly products). The story is probably one of the best of Pixar's excellent line, both friendly to adults and kids (who woulda thought a robot would be this cuddly). The added bonus stuff is highly watchable - an extra short BURN-E in addition to the theatrical short, commentary, BnL commercials, robot specs, making of documentaries, and a history of Pixar.
