This work never gets old, it's a wonderful presentation on the Black experience from a woman's perspective. Reading is great, seeing it is better. If you're a Black actress, it should unquestionably be on your shelf.』

『The performances in this are spectacular. Shange's poetry comes alive.

However, there are two problems I have with this. First, is that one of the poems is left out entirely (latent rapist). Second, they have men in the film that speak some of the words. I think the power of "for colored girls" comes from the words only coming from women, since this play is for girls from women's mouths.

Still an amazing piece of artistry, and better than not seeing it live at all.』

『Great work! I have heard parts of this play through out the years- but I was not expecting to see or hear-what I heard and what I saw on this dvd. It is off the chain! If you want to see real black talent- check it out! Also big props to Lynn Whitfield (damn- she is too sexy in this short skirt and midriff blouse- walking down the street- and giving it up real- This women can act and has great command of the stage (also see her work in "Zora is my name!"-another tour deforce- for above the board talent- regardless of the color of the production!&a big shout out to Mrs.Ruby Dee). Ms. Woodard is one of the main reasons why I purchased this dvd - I wanted to view her earlier work and she is up in here-giving it up! In one scene- this dark beauty is sitting in a chair with a night gown on-trying to make sure those legs stay crossed. lol
In my book-Alfre is one the greatest actors in the world- and she still hasn't gotten her props. This woman has a great body of work and she can ACT! All of the actors in this project come through with flying colors, and I really enjoyed watching this dvd. Also the writing is very, very tight. Playwriting at its best. Now I see what all the fuss was about! Talent up the Ying yang.』

I remember seeing the teleplay on PBS so many years ago and the memories of the performances of all of the ladies but especially the young&talented future stars - Alfre Woodard&Lynn Whitfield.

Having read the novel first, I was impressed by the way the stories were brought to life in front of my eyes and I loved how the first "poem" was translated to song and sung by the equally magnificent, Patti LaBelle.

I'd highly recommend this to fans of not only the aforementioned actresses but also of the works of Ntozake Shange.』

(A great promise, but it's kinda short!)
『I have been a LOST fan since season 1 was aired in Malaysia.

Knowing that we are actually backdated here., the LOST DVD set is the only things i could rely on to watch the show's season in advance.

I couldn't wait for the pre-order online, so i just got myself the retail DVD set last month from a local store, which happens to be the AUS version of this DVD set.

Like any of the LOST fan., i was couldn't wait to know what will be happening in season 4.., i was hoping for some excitement, and it indeed didn't disappoint me at all..

The plot and stories totally blow my mind and it was all great and unexpected..!!!

Loves the bonus features and Easters eggs too.., it's worthy to support the show all that long after all!

One thing though, like some other reviewers here, i think it's kinda short for a season, there should be atleast 18 episodes for this season and the price should be cheaper than other LOST season DVD.

Other than that, it's still an awesome season for any LOST fan, and a must have for any LOST fan!

『Man...after watching season 3 I could not get enough of Lost. I saw the entire season 4 on abc.com. This has got to be the most interesting season of all. C'mon, there is time travel, flashbacks and flashforwards. There are so many twists and turns it's unbelievable how these writers orchestrate everything.
It seems that after watching each episode, there are more and more questions that need answering. I can't wait for the new season to start.

(Is the Island part of Atlantis? Recovery from a slow Season Three.)
『Although I liked Season Three, it was a bit slow. Lost overcame the writers strike with a short fast hitting season with lots of action, plot twists, flash backs and forwards. You were wondering what was coming next. And really, who was the guy in the box.....? Well, you find out the last scene of the last episode. You learn how Jack degraded in his time back home and you see the progress from a few years back to the present, or just about the present.

Setting us up for this season? What happened to those on the boat, are they alive? How about the island, where did it go? So where is the island originally from or part of, my thought recently, Atlantis. Well you have old statues in places that we saw in previous seasons and the Dharma Initiatives logo looks a little like out of a Jules Verne novel.

Anyway, we had three new additions to the show in season four and we got a little closer to what the 'Thing' is. Still, there are some questions to be answered. Hopefully season 5 will lead to a season 6. Lost is still a great show with an incredible cast.』

『The first thing I am curious about is the '9 December' release date for Lost 4... I walked into our local CD/DVD store the weekend before last and found it in the new release section. And no, it is not a bootleg of some sort. My wife and I had not watched Season 4, as it airs on pricey satelite tv here, and we waited patiently for the DVD box. We ended up ploughing through all of it (special features included) by Monday evening.

If I have one criticism it is that the season seemed quite short.

The filming is superb (It must be simply stunning to watch on a Blu Ray system) and as always, had us on the cliched edge of our seat..... Now we have to wait (im)patiently for Season 5...』

(Funniest movies ever)
『If you like Will Ferrell and John C Reilly, you already will like this movie! its one of Will Ferrells best ever and one of the movies of the year』

『My first measure of a movie is whether it exceeds the expectations set by the trailer. I thought the premise of Step Brothers was a good fit for the inspired lunacy of "the boys," but I was hesitant. Both have wavered in recent efforts... Semi-Pro was a horrible failure and Walk Hard (while exhibiting momentary flashes of hilarity) was equally disappointing.

However, Step Brothers went well beyond the promise of the trailer and delivered in spades. Is it broad? YUP! Is it ridiculous? YUP. Does that matter? Not a bit. The movie is a laugh riot. Apatow's movie success has been predicated on his penchant for sophomoric hijinks perpetrated by underdevelop menchildren. That's what you go for. When he's on, he's golden; he's glittering here.

Bottom line, you don't go to a Hyundai dealership when you're shopping for a Benz. If you buy Step Brothers, you get what you pay for. Isn't that the point?』

(Step Brothers tops Anchorman)
『I liked Anchorman - I really did...but I never put it on the top of my "favorite comedy" list. Talladega Nights was HORRENDOUS. Step Brothers, however, is on top of that list.

A friend and I went to see this movie on opening night - we got there just as the previews were on the screen. Unfortunately, it was a packed house and we had to sit in the very first row. Of course, I was concerned (I hate hate hate sitting in the front row)...

But I have to tell you...there is no ending to the FUNNY in this movie. Had Ferrell or Reilly dropped or even wavered character at all in this movie, it would have been a huge FAIL. I laughed throughout.

As for the negative reviews - you can't sit down and watch an Apatow movie and NOT expect crude humor. Apatow has tapped into a formula of humor that Hollywood was needed for many years. We grew into and out of stupid-funny Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey movies...we are now into the next-generation of comedy.

This movie is full of WIN. Definately a must-see.』

『Us Gen-Xers were big fans of Prince "back in the day" and I still love this movie. The entire soundtrack is one hit after another. The movie is kind of corny but still works. Appolonia(sp?) never looked better! 8) The transfer is great considering the film source wasn't that amazing to begin with. I bought this mainly for the Dolby True HD soundtrack and I have to say it was a little heavy in the surrounds but still sounds good. It is much, much better than the SDDVD. I have a combo Blu/HDDVD player so buying the HDDVD is no big deal for me, but a deal breaker if you don't have the right player. I'm glad I bought this, but wouldn't reccommend it for more than $12 considering HDDVD is gone.』

The narrator uses a dramatic, rather hushed tone of voice which I assume is supposed to sound witchy or something. It's so full of stupid hype, I almost expected Dracula to make an appearance in a cape and fake vampire fangs! Yes, it's that corney. This video is also an embarassment to real astrologers and Tarot readers and an utter waste of money.』

『Christopher Lee narrates just over 11/2 hour doco on astrology and Tarot - covers the basics on how a natal chart is cast and how astrological advice has been used in recent history by the likes of Ronald Reagan, Hitler and John F Kennedy.

Tarot section covers the 22 card Major Arcana but doesn't mention much of swords, cups, wands or pentacles or their relationship to present day playing cards. Interesting interviews with parctitioners of these arts as well as balanced comments from critics such as parapsychologists, astronomers and professors of logic and philosophy. Stuart Caplan, credited with the commercial introduction of Tarot cards into the US, is also interviewed and mention is made of the links between Tarot, Kabbalah and Astrology , the fundamentals of which were explored by the Golden Dawn and the notorious Mr Aleister Crowley.

Overall a well presented feature obviously shot for TV with a reasonable video and basic stereo soundtrack. Extras are absent which is a pity - some examples from Mr Caplan's fabulous collection of Tarot decks would have been of great interest.』

(First Feel-Good Musical to Hit the Theatres in a Long Time)
『I love musicals. But I am very picky about which ones I watch, and which ones I buy for repeat performances. MAMA MIA was the first musical that multiple generations can appreciate. For the first time, I wasn't the young pup represented in most musicals, but the mother experiencing love lost, found again, and letting go of your children. I found myself amazed with Meryl Streep's voice, cheering on Pierce Brosnan's (and yes, sometimes he hit a sour note, but when your boyfriend is singing to you something really sweet...who cares?)and laughing at how the screenplay writers incorporated particular tunes (Chickadita! Loved it!). I love Christine Baranski and have became a new fan of Julie ___ (can't remember her last name). I would love to have a set of friends like Julie, Meryl, and Christine.

I grew up in the ABBA-hit era, but did not "love" them. They were another group that had some great songs. But I did really "love" the way that these songs were not stripped of their melody, and still the words represented something current.

There were silly gestures, and some cheesy dances...but I liked it. It made me smile. Like watching your folks dance....

Long and the short...Mama Mia is worth buying. Buy the soundtrack, buy the DVD. Make yourself feel good, without a therapist.』

『This is supposed to be a musical comedy and it was, so the goal was reached. I'm not a fan of ABBA, but I don't hate their music... besides, it represents a generation, let's say it's part of history. The situations together with lyrics were appropiated, on time... a pretty smart combination. The performers had fun doing this movie and this is exported towards the audience you can notice that, you can feel it, just that fact makes you laugh and somehow be part of that experience. Watch the movie without prejudice and you will enjoy it... I'm definetely buying the DVD.』

『What can I say other than the music created by the Swedish musical group nearly 40 years ago is simply to be treasured by all ages. I love ABBA music and waited years for the popular musical Mamma Mia to make it to the big screen and now Mamma Mia on DVD. I have never been a huge fan of Meryl Streep but she gives a wonderful virtuoso performance in this movie. Same for newcomer Amanda Seyfried. Neither actress is known for their singing ability, but are simply messmerizing in Mamma Mia. ABBA's music is timeless and pure joy in this romantic lost and found musical love story. If you look hard one of the original members of ABBA has a cameo in the movie; one of the two "BB" (Bjorn ans Benny) in the sensational signing group's name. The on location photography is beautiful in this movie as the story unfolds. The only fairly deserved criticism is the signing of the leading man (aka 007). Pierce Bronsan is way below par compared to the rest of the cast, but still nails his character's (dramatic) performance in this who's who of a Father-Daughter-Mother love story. If you've seen the play, the story is still the same, if not a bit over the top. Still, the signing and even the dancing in the movie version is just as entertaining and enjoyable to the audience. One thing for sure this movie cries out to be HEARD, so turn up the volume and delight in all the stirring melodies and lyrical music of ABBA. This DVD will make you feel good to be alive, and best enjoyed by singing along. Why not? Celebrate the music of Mamma Mia!』

『As a male, I probably shouldnt say this in public, but I'm a big fan of ABBA's music and you shouldn't feel embarrassed about seeing this film. It is such feel good fun, you will love it.

In this brilliant, joyful film adaption of the hit stage show, 20-year-old Sophie Sheridan (Amanda Seyfried) lives with her mother Donna (Meryl Streep) on the small Greek island of Kalokairi where Donna runs a hotel called Villa Donna.
Sophie is about to be married and discovers that any one of 3 men could be her father. But is it Sam (Pierce Brosnan), Harry (Colin Firth) or Bill (Stellan Skarsgard)?
Sophie invites all 3 men to her wedding without telling Donna, who was the singer in a group called Donna and the Dynamos.

Glorious music and songs, imaginatively staged numbers and a fine sense of fun are present in this film. I loved it!

While Pierce Brosnan sounds awful, and sings like a lawnmower - and Colin Firth sounds rather nasal when singing "Last Summer" on guitar - in a funny way, the casting of actors who sing like us plebs works and adds to the fun and charm of the film. The wedding setting also works because you can imagine everyone at a wedding getting up and dancing or singing.
Meryl Streep has an excellent singing voice which will astonish sceptics, and I also thought the actress playing the daughter sang well!
The passionate renditions of The Winner Takes It All and Thank You For The Music are my highlights, and yet some uptempo songs are great too (Waterloo, Lay All Your Love On Me etc). I also think there are 1 or 2 touching moments in the film.
Yes the screenplay is very cheesy, and it may be camp as Christmas, but you will surely leave the theatre smiling.

『Yes, the critics are right. It's cheesy. The plot's an embarrassment. And Brosnan can't sing. But it was GREAT!

This movie is meant for audience participation. That's why there are sub-titles/lyrics when the singing starts - Sing along! After the movie was released, ABBA's music had a revival.

And this is not really a movie - just an excuse to sing along to ABBA songs. And a reminder of when you used to know these songs so well.

And Pierce Brosnan's role in the movie is simply so you'd know that at least you're not the worst singer of the day!』

It's a romantic comedy aimed at the people who were around when all these songs were new, and that's an age group Hollywood largely ignores.
