『Ugh. My art-loving 6 year old received this as a gift. She played with it once, got annoyed, and never asked about it again.

She got frustrated right away because the "ink" took so long to activate on the special paper. She couldn't tell where she'd already sprayed, and too much ink in one spot leaves a wet splotch on the special paper that won't color up at all. The spray arm has a little hood that covers the spray nozzle and prevents spraying the whole room. But the spray collects inside the hood and drips onto the paper, so we were constantly wiping the hood, the ink cartridges, the cartridge holder...we used as many paper towels as pieces of Color Wonder paper.

The spray pattern is huge for what you're being asked to color--tiny stencil holes and coloring book pages with tiny details. The spray is 1/2 an inch or more wide with a lot of misting beyond. Because of the misting you're making overspray rainbows all over the page, not coloring in the lines. What kid has the patience to be picking a stencil up and putting it down again, masking off sections at a time? Sometimes the color ran underneath between two stencil holes. My daughter's kit came with princess stickers made to go with the stencils. She complained there was only one face sticker for each princess, because to her that meant each stencil could be used only one time. She can't draw tiny faces where they're supposed to go with the big, fat Color Wonder marker that came in the kit. Because of the spray and overspray, there is absolutely no way to use the sprayer in the provided coloring book, unless you're going for an "outside the lines" look.

The only project in the kit we enjoyed was drawing on the special paper with a white crayon, which resists the ink, so you can do a kind of batik+tie-dye effect. The kit only comes with small pieces of blank paper, so we'd have had even less success with the batiking had we not already had some regular-size Color Wonder paper laying around from a finger-painting kit...another gift my kids have rejected as unsatisfying because of the delay in seeing what they've actually made and the disappointing results. But even the batiking got old fast.

Color Wonder probably sounds like a dream to parents who fear messes, but my kids don't enjoy this line at all. Other reviews mention how expensive the refills are. We'll continue to buy regular crayons, washable markers and paints, and plain paper. Those cost much less, keep the kids busy and creative for hours...and they can see their masterpieces take shape right away.』

『Colorix are very fun! They can be a crayon, an oil pastel and with a little water and a paintbrush -- water colors. They last for quite a while -- three little boys, daily, 3 months.

Downside -- they are not washable and stain carpet.』

『I heard about this product from a teacher friend of mine, and I got them for my then 4 year old. Two years later they are still the hottest thing in the art box. This was the gift I gave last year to one and all. Everyone always wants to know where they can get them, as well. My child's preschool teacher loves them, we bought them for the class. They apply thick and creamy to paper, smudge well, clean up well, and if you use water with them you can get all kinds of effects. And I have heard the Amos brand are the best of this genre.』
