Learning Carpets
Usually ships in 5 to 7 days IPhone 3G used's review (Christmas shoppers beware) 『I ordered this item for my grandson for Christmas. I haven't opened it yet, but it appears to be of GREAT quality. My only concern is that if you too order it for Christmas, BEWARE. It didn't come with any wrapping, just clear packaging that shows what the product is and a shipping label. Luckily, Andrew lives 1200 miles away and the surprise was not be spoiled.』
(Better than I expected and a big hit with our 5 year old.) 『Our 5 year old just received this for his birthday and he wants nothing more than to play with it nonstop. He has used both his Pixar Cars diecast cars as well as his Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars on it. Although the Pixar character cars don't fit exactly within the lanes this doesn't bother him at all.
As picky parents, his dad and I thought the graphics could have been a bit better--there are a couple of places where one lane of the two land road narrows noticeably and it too narrow even for a Hot Wheel to not go over the center line. We also thought the actual road layout was a bit dodgey and could have been thought out better. Details like this don't detract from the play value, but they don't enhance the educational value.
On a positive note, I will say that this rug exceeded my expectations in two areas. First, the carpet is soft and supple. I was very pleased that it rolled out and stayed flat instead of suffering from carpet curl at the ends as I feared it would and like so many cheap and stiff runner carpets will. It is a runner size, long and narrow and our five year old can unroll it and lay it out by himself (a real plus!). Second, I expected that the carpet would smell, I have had unpleasant experiences in the past with chemical odors eminating from the backing material of carpets. There was none of that here. The carpet was absolutely benign in this regard straight out of the wrap. What a relief.
It is hard to say how durable the carpet will be, but it certainly seems sturdy. If we can keep the cat off of it and dirty shoes it should stay nice for a long time.
Overall, I am very happy with this carpet and with how much our son seems to be enjoying it.』
(Great Imagination Builder) 『I bought this for my 3 year old grandson who likes small cars. Before he only lined them up and pushed them on the floor. This "rug" now gives him a purpose and he really enjoys it: parking the cars, obeying traffic lights, stopping for pizza, visiting friend's house, etc. When he's finished playing after a while, his parents just roll it up and put it away. The colors seem bright and the product appears well made. The variety of places to go that are printed on the rug is very good for his age.』

(Music Makin'!) 『I got this for my daughter for her 2nd birthday. She loves it. Within a couple of weeks she had figured out how to turn it on and start a c.d. She loves the 2 sing-a-long mics, and she likes how the stars on the side light up as she makes sounds in the mic.
The 2 things I don't like: 1, it is pretty heavy, and 2, I wish the c.d. player opened at the touch of a button, rather than having to manually open it. My daughter is so used to everything being electric on appliances, she doesn't know what to think to actually have to open the door to put the c.d. in her player. :)

This is a great album for a little one, as it allows the kids to put it in their mouth and neither the child or the album gets hurt! The album is good for using imagination and telling stories. If you have relatives who live far away, it can help the child get connected to the family member. My kids also liked having pictures of the house pets in the album. 』

My son used to have one of these when he was 3 and got bored after a while, today he is 9 and asked for this set again. He has it for about a month now and has been shaving everyday. Our 3y/o could care less about the game play, and is quite satisfied to randomly pound the moles with the mallet. Single player mode is pretty tough and I doubt many kids can beat it. Lots of fun to be had for 2 to 4 kids in the multi player modes. It is a shame they didn't use a little more care in assembling it.』

With regard to educaitonal value, the HARD mode is entirely about listening attentively. Lights don't blink, just make a sound triggering a player to whack. This is an important skill to teach children, and there are few games where this kind of training is well camaflouged as fun.』

I had to look up alternate codes online (that people just happened to find). Then, for some reason (even though we did the initial set-up correctly) every time we start it up, it plays in Spanish and we have to go through the menus to select English. Lastly, most frustrating, is how slow it is. My 20month old gets excited to see his game put on... and is then bored 3-4 minutes into the game (and he can pay good attention to other videos or games). There is just too long a delay between "push a button" and the DVD then churning to the result. Overall, the games aren't impressive and don't provide anymore learning than we give him when reading him his books. Maybe if we had gotten it when he was 9 months it would have been more appropriate.
