『I got this train for my son's 2nd birthday and he loves it! The stickers that came with the train to personalize the truck were easy to apply and have been very durable. The train and truck are very well made and very festive. The doors on the truck slide back to reveal presents. This is one of the best Thomas purchases we have made.』

『This was a gift for my 1 year old son. He loves playing with his older brother's trains and I suggested to his aunt that he would probably like his very own Thomas for his birthday. When this arrived, I put his name and age beneath the cars. He LOVES to carry this train around everywhere. It is definitely durable and the weight is good. It's not too heavy or too light. The only drawback are the stickers for the personalization. They didn't stick very well and I had to keep reapplying them. Eventually, I just gave up. His name is still there, but he's just happy to have his own train. I think it is a very nice gift!』

『I bought this kit for the library I work at in Utah, so that the children could come in and watch the ladybugs grow as a part of our Catch the Reading Bug summer reading program. It was a big hit! We had to order them again, because the kids were sad we released the ladybugs. The first time we did it, however, out of the 12 ladybugs, only three made it to adult. The second time we had better luck. We currently have six of 10 that turned into adults. I wouldn't be surprised if we have some eggs in the habitat pretty soon.

The butterfly kits were a big success as well. We had one handicap butterfly, but he/she learned to fly just fine. We ended up having 8 of 10 turn into butterflies (despite the fact that three of the chrysalis fell down).

As for some having dead ladybugs arrive, it's possible that the environments they were shipped through were too hot for them. You may want to consider contacting the company first if you're worried about the larvae arriving alive. All of our ladybugs arrived alive, so I can't be sure why this problem occurred. As for Oregon residents who bought this kit, unfortunately most companies won't ship ladybugs to Oregon, but try googling live ladybug kits. There may be a company out there who will ship to Oregon.』

『My sister ordered this for my 11 year old daughter. We promptly ordered the larvae with the understanding that they would not mail them until the weather conditions were agreeable. We ordered them in Texas in August so when we didn't get them for a couple of months, we thought it was still too hot. Finally about 4 months after we ordered the larvae (and had received nothing), I called the company. Firstly, they acted like I was crazy for not having called them sooner and/or was lying about it. They asked for proof of purchase. I said I had our half of the postcard that we used to order the larvae. They asked that I fax a copy of this to them. (Still felt like they thought I was trying to pull some scam!!) We then received a mailing tube of what appeared to be dead larvae. We went ahead and followed all directions to the letter. Nothing ever moved, lived or developed at all. I faxed a copy of the original card again telling them that everything was dead when received and/or died in transit. That was at least 6 months ago and they never even responded. Don't waste your money on this. Sadly, the company is not at all interested in the children that are disappointed. Every time I look at that empty habitat (kinda cute actually), I'm furious at a company that doesn't care that my 11 year old (now 12) got a useless gift that should have been a good gift! Shame on Insect Lore!!!』

(A little boring--kids review)
『I couldn't wait for when the lady bugs arrived in the mail. When they finally did, I was grossed out at the fact that they were tiny larvae. There wasn't much to watch besides the fact that you had to feed them everyday or else they'd die, but reaching my hand in there was probably one of the most dreaded things of the day...especially because nobody else would do it for me!

A lot of people complain that the ladybugs didnt live but I think all of mine made it to the ladybug stage. It may have been a disgusting process, but it felt great to finally let them go.

I recommend not getting these if you are not going to be willing to feed them and see white larvae.』

『I bought this item for my kindergarten class. We watched the larvae crawl around for a few days, but they ate all the food they came with on the first day. I started to worry they would starve, so I fed them aphids until they went into the pupae phase. I got about 10 ladybugs, and only 4 of them survived to become adult ladybugs, but the kids were really excited when they finally came out. They look a little different than regular red ladybugs, but you can still tell that's what they are. The kids enjoyed watching them, and it made for a great science experiment in the classroom. I would highly recommend this product to anyone teaching small children. You do have to be careful not to knock the lid off. I had several escapees because my children kept bumping the lid, and they were able to crawl out from under it.』

『I bought this for my son's 5th birthday, and he and his 2-year-old sister played with it for 30 minutes nonstop. We then used it as a birthday party activity, and it was one of the most popular activities we had. It's great fun -- kids can toss, roll, or shoot the balls, and they can make up their own games or play the ones that are intended by the toy. There's no better indoor activity on a rainy day!

One of the greatest features is the ability to fold this flat for storage. It simply slides behind the sofa in the family room and is out-of-sight until we want to play with it again. And although I haven't been able to figure out how to fold it to its smallest size to fit in the bag it came in, I'm not worried about it -- it's very easy to fold flat. It's also very easy to set up -- it simply pops up, and there is a small button-type latch to fasten that prevents it from collapsing.

『don't bother with any mats less than 3/4" - these are so much thicker, my 6 month old could sit and fall on her head as much as she liked without hurting herself - whereas at friends houses who had the ABC or less thick mats she hurt herself when she fell. also with the ABC mats, babies spend the whole time taking out the letters, undoing the borders and chewing them. these ones are quick and easy to put together and are easily hidden under our sofa. only wish i'd bought 2 packs straight away to save on my shipping costs!』

『The mat's have a strong odor and leave behind an oily/slippery substance on my hardwood floors and my feet. I scrubbed them down with a sponge and Dawn dish soap, but it did not help.

The overall quality is great, but I do not feel comfortable allowing my daughter to roll around on something that emits such a strong odor and oil. Per Step2, they are not 100% EVA foam, they also contain a rubber compound.

Last year my son received this puzzle and the Construction Puzzle for a gift. I love the wooden pieces. He not only does he love completing the puzzle, the pieces themselves are toys. It really is a special toy I plan to keep for my grandkids.
I ordered a new set to decorate his dresser for his room. I am disappointed in the changes made to the product. The paint does not go all the way around the pieces and the paint on the front of the pieces is not the same quality. I feel this is no longer a stand out product for children, definitely not something I would keep for other children when my son is finished with it. I will settle for these on his dresser, although it will not look as nice as I hoped.
I think of Melissa and Doug as a brand that is making wonderful, lasting toys for children. The quality for this product has definitely gone down.』

The pieces are thick enough to stand alone, small enough to fit in pockets. He's spent hours playing make-believe boats in the water, airplane in the sky, train chugging around the coffee table, etc. And the puzzle board is a nice, neat place to store the pieces when he's done. This is a winner.』

『I bought a wedding day barbie for my 2 nieces as a thank you gift for being flower girls in my wedding. They absolutely loved them ! They carried them around for the entire reception. It is a well made toy that comes with a great light up ring for the girl that owns it.』

(Damaged boxes)
『I purchased 4 Wedding day Barbies for my Flower Girls and Jr. Bridesmaids. They were a gift from my wedding. The product boxes were all damaged but the box they were shipped in was was in good condition. One of the rings inside were broken which made for a very unhappy little girl, she was the only one without a ring. I was very disappointed with the quality of the individual boxes. Some of girls wanted them for keepsakes, but with damaged boxes they weren't able to display them in their original boxes.』

'Wedding Day Barbie' is dressed for her umpteenth(!) wedding to Ken in a strapless white gown, secured at the waist by a pink ribbon. The full-skirted gown has a sheer net overlay covered in a glittery pink rosebud motif. Atop her head, she wears a white net veil attached to a pink plastic tiara. Barbie's makeup is very soft and romantic with only a small hint of glitter above her eyes. Her blonde hair is nicely styled into loose curls. In her right hand she carries a plastic "bouquet".

Children will also enjoy the bonus pink diamond "engagement ring" which, when pressed, lights up in different colours (it comes with replaceable button cell batteries). The companion groom Ken doll is available separately.』
