He was having a construction-themed birthday party AND he really liked playing with some tools he got for Christmas, so we thought this would be the perfect gift. I did lots of searching online before settling on this workbench (after reading reviews and deciding on what we wanted exactly). I like toys that are well built and leave a lot up to the imagination (no batteries, lights, sounds, etc...). So, I considered this workbench and a few others.
The drill does require batteries, but nothing else makes sounds. It includes a plastic working drill (with forward and reverse modes and 4 different bits), a plastic hammer, and a plastic saw. There are no other tools, which is disappointing, BUT pretty much any plastic screwdriver will work with the screws on this workbench, which would be better for fine motor skills. There are 6 plastic screws that can be screwed into the top of the bench or used with the plastic nuts. There is a drawer to store everything in, but it is a bit hard to pull out and push in (maybe it will loosen over time, though). The bottom shelf is great to store all the "wood" pieces. There is a vice that has a spring in it, so it will actually hold the wood pieces. That's a neat feature.
The coolest part about this workbench is all the "wood" pieces it comes with. They are actually foam, but they look like wood. My son loves putting them together to make things -- an airplane, a birdhouse, a backhoe, etc... He does need help at his age to make many of the things, but he can put them together any way he likes! Even my [...] old twin girls love playing with them! It is great to see them using their imagination and trying to figure out how to make the projects on the "blueprint". There are more specific instructions included that show which pieces to use for the project, but I'm not sure we'll be able to keep up with them for long. The pictures are on the workbench itself, but it is hard to tell what pieces to use just by looking at those pictures.
All in all, this is a great toy that will keep children entertained for a very long time because it is versatile. They won't get bored. My son has enjoyed screwing the screws in with the drill and pretending to saw and hammer. The assembly was not hard at all (took me about 5 minutes), but the holes on the side of the workbench were not pre-drilled. You just screw the screws right into the plastic. It isn't hard, but I did not expect that.
We haven't had this workbench long, but it seems pretty durable, considering it is plastic. I worry about some of the small tabs on the foam pieces breaking off, but that's pretty minor.
I highly recommend this workbench, especially at this price! I'd only pay more for a wooden one.』

I am no expert, and my son keeps asking what their names are. We've been able to figure some out by looking through books, but it is work I don't think I should have to do. If it had this information (or if you don't care about this info), I would give it 5 stars. The Crocodile Creek dinosaur puzzle has a cartoonish look, but at least it includes the names and eliminates this hassle.』

Upon opening the actual manufacturer box that held the tricycle,theres a definite smell of rubber/paint which may be offensive to some buyers.I did'nt mind it so much but be aware of this.It sure smells 'new'.The instructions that I recieved are adequate,but the instructions will assemble a 16" or a 10".Just be sure that all parts are there.Mine was missing all washers,which are very important to keep the nuts from coming loose.I had to furnish my own. Assembly is asy with an adjustable wrench and a flathead screwdriver or a philips head.You'll need a hammer to pound the locknuts down on the rear axle.No big deal. We put it all together,added handlebar streamers,a horn, and a bell.Needless to say,our grandson loves it.Its a shame that Roadmaster is made in China now,but designed in the USA.

(Pleasantly Surprised!) 『This is the first set I purchased from the new Lego City Coast Guard series. I have constructed the smaller Lego helicopters before, and I was struck by the size of this set - it was larger than I expected. As noted in a previous review, it is wide enough for two mini-figures to sit side by side.
The helicopter has two doors on either side of the cargo bay, in which you will find a working winch. It works by pulling out the string/thread tied to it, then simply pressing a button on the passenger side of the exterior cockpit to reel the winch back in. My 3-year-old was especially impressed by this feature - he repeated the process some twenty times before I told him that it was time to stop.
The set includes a life raft and four mini-figures - the flippers included fit nicely on a mini-figure and are a nice touch. The helicopter is also solidly built - it has not fallen apart as of yet. Overall, my expectations were not very high for this set but it happened to surprise me.』

My son still wants to play, but I refuse to continue throwing my money away on something that doesn't last long.』

So I went out and bought a $10 adapter which it doesn't come with, but should since it eats batteries. I bought the adapter and it still didn't work. I returned the V-Smile and got another one. This one did the same thing, not to mention the hassle at Walmart. Then a couple months later, I exchanged it again and got a 3rd V-Smile. This one FINALLY works. We have the game that comes with it but the Elmo game that was bought for it doesn't work and I just refuse to return something else that goes with this game system.
My daughter Sophie is now 3 1/2 yrs old and was actually playing this game today and loved every minute of it. I am still howevery skeptical of buying another game for it. Apparently i'm not the only one that has had problems considering the other reviews and the comments I heard from other moms on CafeMom's site.
My Recommendation is to get a Leapster instead but if you MUST get this system be prepared that you may get a dud or two.』

Sine we were about 5 games in on v-smile and did not want to just throw the games away I purchased the new improved version with the adapter plug. This one did not even make it through the day. A huge disappointment! My sons and I were sitting there trying to figure out the new game I bought (yes sucker is written on my forehead) and after two 20 minute plays it stopped working.
If you still want to chance the unit - you should know the graphics are amateur and fuzzy looking but the kids do not seem to mind. Truthfully both my sons enjoyed the games and I like the educational aspect of them - its just too bad the unit doesn't work well.』

It may hit you after months, or days, or in the case of my daughter on the morning of her birthday, hours--suddenly the unit will simply stop responding, won't turn on, or gets fuzzy video. The end result is crying children attempting to be consoled by parents that know they've been ripped off. It's amazing that they can continually put out a product that is this defective without being hit with some sort of class action suit.』

It states clearly on the package that arrived that there is no A/V adapter included and it actually takes 4 AA batteries, not 3 C batteries. Fortunately, I had some AA batteries available here at home. But, I'm still stuck with the package of 12 C batteries I ordered at the same time.
