IPhone 3G used's review (IT'SNT AS PICTURED!) 『There was barely any description of this product, but it was so cheap I took a chance.
I was aspecting a muted, blue-ish grey jersey sheet set.... the name is "Manhatten mist" and the picture clearly suggests a solid perriwinkle/slate blue-grey color.
I was surprised, when a splotchy patterned Heather grey sheet set arrived. Its the typical grey Jersey sheet sold year-round at Target. I mean, "Manhattan mist"?? Are you serious? How about "Grey"? There's nothing unusual or unique about the color-- its basically that of an early 90s grey tshirt.
If you want this sheet set, just go to Target and pick it up-- that way you can actually see the color and save some money and shipping costs!』

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (A good collection) 『Unlike the huge names, collections by Allen are not many - plenty of his opera performances are recorded, but there are only a few collections. My voice teacher recommended I listen to him to understand better how to deliver power without weight, something we've been working on. Yes, it's all in English, but that's fine, and the quality of Allen's instrument comes through very well.』
(A Musician of Great Dignity and Style) 『Sir Thomas Allen is one of the enduring baritones who has been able to move throughout the operatic repertoire and the recital stage with intelligence, informed characterization, and immaculate musicianship. To have a recording of some of the roles he has inhabited at this point in his career is a gift (this CD was recorded in 2003). To have the added challenge of retaining the stature of the roles while sung in English translations at the request of Chandos is a credit to his abilities and communicative powers.
English is a difficult language to make musical, though saying that abruptly is countered by the fact that some of the most beautiful operas in history are by Benjamin Britten, a composer who truly understood his native tongue and kept it as fluid as the soaring melodies he wrote, as Thomas Allen proves here in 'Billy in the Darbies' from Britten's 'Billy Budd'. It is the other major arias from Korngold to Wagner to Tchaikovsky to Rossini, Bizet, Mozart, Gounod, Verdi, Thomas, Strauss, and Lehar that Allen proves that English translations do not detract at all from the performances!
For those purists who prefer opera sung in the original language (and for those who don't even need supertitles in the opera house!), then this recording may provide a temporary barrier to respecting Allen's singing. But once caught up in the ease with which he moves from style to style and comedy to drama, it is hard not to relinquish old preferences and not be wholly impressed with the beauty of the voice and the warmth and dignity of this fine musician. Highly recommended. Grady Harp, July 05 』
(Passed the "Opera in English" test with flying colors.) 『For me, the test here was Figaro's Cavatina, from Rossini's Barber of Seville - sung in English, as is this entire compilation of 14 operatic favorites, sung by baritone Sir Thomas Allen. Could he pull it off? Could Chandos pull it off? The answer is an unequivocal, unqualified yes! The secret in singing classics in English, that were written and scored in another language, is in three things: pacing, vocal agility and appreciation for "fit", and what greater test for tongue and timing than Figaro? When you listen to this one song, you will understand why Chandos and its benefactor, Sir Peter Moores have such a passion for their Opera in English series. Sir Allen's voice is a matured unmistakably settled baritone voice that contains a lifetime's worth of understanding of the music and words he imparts through his magnificent delivery. For example, when he sings, Tchaikovsky's "You have my love and devotion" from The Queen of Spades, he delivers a smooth and deeply emotional rendition that lacks nothing in translation. Wagner's "Turning my gaze upon this proud assembly", from Tannhäuser is another example of how fine, full orchestration behind a seasoned voice that waxes eloquent with every phrase, can create a mood of relaxed familiarity with word and music, that may be lacking when sung in another tongue. Great Operatic Arias, serves up a smorgasbord of tunes that are familiar, made more so by the care and attention given to creating a place for the Opera in English series in every home library. The mood here is romantic, relaxed and with few exceptions consistent throughout. If you haven't heard Opera in English, this might be a good way to start, given the fact that the listener gets to sample how different composers might sound in other than German, Italian or French. You might be surprised to discover that when done with care, as is obviously the case here, the sound is about as good as it gets. As an added bonus, the booklet that comes with the CD is fullof pictures, libretto in English, and biography that gives us a good insight into history of the singer and his identifying rolls.』

I love Queen's music, and I loved the movie, even if it was a little hokey in places. So I really, really wanted to love this CD. Well, the music is still great, but it was as if they simply ripped the music while it was playing in key sequences of the movie, and kept the spoken lines from whatever character was speaking at the time. If they could have removed the spoken lines, it would have been much better. However, if you did like the music and the movie, it is worth a purchase. Shame they don't redo it though, this time sans the spoken lines.』
(Flashing Synthesizers Throughout the Mix) 『With two numbers geared to FM radio play - Flash's Theme and its reprise, The Hero - the remaining 16 numbers on this February 1981 release were synthesizer-laden instrumentals with snippets of movie dialogue in the mix.
The single - Flash, which is titled Flash's Theme on the album - stalled at #42 on the Billboard single's chart, with the soundtrack achieving a tepid gold sales status while peaking at #23 on the album chart.
A platform for a superstar band that could afford to step outside the realm of heavy rotation on the radio and the familiar terrain of its classic sound, the soundtrack is interesting, but hardly an essential piece of Queen's amazing discography.
』
(Find it all pretty satisfactory...) 『This is probably a mistake reviewing this record, but I am something of a completist so here it goes. `Flash Gordon' is a movie soundtrack, nothing more and nothing less and not particularly memorable. "Flash's Theme" is great for this record and "The Hero" is the best song and surprisingly heavy as compared with the rest of the album which is heavily syth laden. The movie can be enjoyable is watched in the right frame of mind, which is to enjoy it as a live action comic book with all the cheesiness that this implies. Only for fans of the film or for Queen fans who have to have it all (like me) but others stay away.』
(Flash Gordon Soundtrack Review) 『Flash Gordon was a great album. It was a great instrumental that just screamed Queen and where they were singing, it was Queen all the way. I would reccomend this album to any Queen fan looking for instrumental pieces and genuine Queen eccentricity.』
(Flash + Queen = Unforgettable) 『This is a masterpiece. Flash Gordon is one of my favorite movies. I bought the LP record, the CD, the VHS movie, the LD movie, the DVD. (Value for the cost) 『If you haven't heard Puscifer, go grab a copy of V is for Vagina. The first listen may throw you off, as it comes off as more of a remixed, experimental form of Maynard's creativity. Think Tool mixed with Lovage.
As for this DVD, this is a single with only the video of Queen B and two commentary tracks - one by Maynard himself. If you've seen the Tool commentaries then you know what to expect.
The video itself is excellent. It's fun and doesn't take itself seriously. The song, if you don't love it already, will grow on you as the melodies spin round your head like a spiral. You'll find yourself humming or singing the underlying chorus throughout the day. And it's not one of those annoying songs that sticks in your mind, it's actually a good tune to be humming.
The packaging is great. It's a gatefold digipak that's not as tall as a DVD case but not as small as a CD. It opens into a panoramic from the video itself.
Over all it's a good value for the price. Pick it up and spread the word - Puscifer is on the scene.』

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (For The Cunard Fan Only) 『The "Voyage" part is about the 12 January 2004 voyage from Southampton to Fort Lauderdale, and not to be confused with the maiden crossing on 16 April 2004. This DVD views more like a 36 minute travel promotion piece with a couple of interviews from the director's friends. It doesn't view like a documentary, and that is the only disappointment. I was hoping for more chronological details of the journey as in interviews from fellow passengers, ship events, malfunctions, any storms or rough seas, workers who wanted to quit, etc. That would have been more interesting. This is very vanilla and why I gave it four stars.
However, the introduction includes the history of Cunard showing wonderful footage of the previous Queens Mary of '36, Elizabeth of '38, and Elizabeth 2 of '67. No exaggeration, I was tearful. I wanted to see a little more of this. The Commodore Warwick interview and retirement segments of this DVD are insightful both lasting longer each than the "Maiden Voyage" part. But again are for the liner fan only as the mildly interested person could find it dull.
The quality of the footage is excellent as it was filmed in HD. The sound, however, is another issue. Turn your volume adjuster down because it has a tendency to distort at normal volume. Overall, it makes a great addition to my ocean liner "porn" collection.』
IPhone 3G used's review (Boudicca - Warrior Queen) 『I found this programme more convincing than many of its kind, for the very reason that the previous reviewer seems to dislike it. It is not a fault not to take sides even if one is led by a woman who is also Celtic. No matter how romantic the images that that combination may evoke all it amounts to is material for a romance.
I did not find the argument pro-roman. In fact it expressly endorses a judgement at the end that the whole episode was a disgrace to all concerned, in human terms. The presentation of the maps is merely a matter of taste, I can't say it bothered me either way because the narrative was convincing. History is rarely pretty - what is of the greatest importance in studying history is to avoid the mistake of seeing things in terms of easy answers, of goodies and baddies. This programme steers clear of this trap, whilst suggesting an interesting insight into which power group may have been pulling the strings behind this challenge to the great Roman Empire.』
(Poor on two important fronts.) 『There have a been few Boudica specials and one film in the past few years. This one, Boudicca - Warrior Queen has the distinction of being the only pro-Roman one of the lot. While most are subtle in their pro-Celt, pro-woman stance, this one is open and clear about the positive effect of the Roman eradication of the Druids on Ynis Mon and the Romanization of the native British. At one point it calls Catus Decianus "far from a coward", when every other account (even Tactius, the Roman historian agrees that his fleeing to Gaul was out of fear) call him just that, and dismisses Catus' role in the beating of Boudica and the rape of her daughters. A final point of its pro-Roman appeal is that it suggests that the beatings and rape of Boudica and her family was a story used by a Druid conspirsicy to stage a revolt against the Romans. The narrater then states simply that whatever the reason, the British were better off after the decimation of the druids because the Roman brutality couldn't compare with the bloody nature of their own native religons and traditions.
The other great failure is in presentations. Unlike the vast majority of historical specials, this one stayed clear of living re-creations and maps, and instead used historical-like art (not original artwork but art done for the show that looked "old".) The few costumed recreations were of the major Roman figures (see the above point).
The History Channel recently did a "Warrior Queen Boudica" special. The two could easily be confused by title but the History Channel one was far more entertaining and less biased.』 『In the year 62 A.D. the Roman Empire ruled all of Briton with a brutal fist. The Celtic tribes loathed the oppressive regime of Emperor Nero but no one dared face down the unstoppable Roman war machine. After the Roman army murdered her tribesman annexed her land and raped her daughters Boudicca the warrior queen of the small Iceni tribe decided to fight back. With the other clans of Briton swarming to her aid Boudicca raised a "British" army that would be unsurpassed in size until the trenches of World War I. In a series of tactical strikes Boudicca's army razed the Roman territories of St Albans and Colchester to the ground and nearly annihilated the Ninth Legion. Finally Boudicca engaged in a massive confrontation with the Roman Governor General Seutonius Paulinus and his troops; despite inflicting huge causalities upon the Roman force Boudicca's army was destroyed and rather than face capture she took her own life by poison. (Armed and Dangerous) 『If this had been fiction, I would have said it's unbelievable. I couldn't put the book down! That Mark Stevens could grow marijuana fields in the inaccessable San Bernardino Mountains was in itself mind boggling. The ending was absolutely breathtaking! What a tremendous experience it was to meet a man of William Queen's stature and abilities. I breathed a sigh of relieve that he was on our side. Great photos! He touches, too, on a brutal Nazi group. Chilling! In our free democratic society, it is very important that we understand the inner workings of our agencies. (Good follow-up to Under and Alone) 『William Queen has made a good follow-up to his best seller Under and Alone. Although his first was one of my favorites, this one is very well written and reads easily. Two thumbs up and very recommended.』
(Inflated&Overblown) 『Your first clue that there is not much here is the big type size. Someone tried to stretch this tale into a book, but the material is inadequate. Queen spends page after page building up to the big moment when he defies death and captures some pyscho in the San Bernardino mountains more than 25 years ago. The problem is the arrest was fairly routine. There is a lot of extraneous detail about unrelated investigations leading up to the main case, obviously an effort to stretch the book. I hope Queen has some more substantial stories left in him, or else his best book, about his undercover stint as a Mongol motorcycle gangbanger, may be his only claim to fame as a writer.』
(Not as good as his 1st book) 『I really liked his first book and thought this might be about the same. I was wrong, not even close! The read was quick and the ending was pretty lame. The forces of good and evil collide and a fierce warrior, Cat O'Hanlon is dispatched from her home on Faire Isle to uncover plots and save a young girl, whose future hangs in limbo.
This book is about Cassandra's daughter Meg and the prophecy of the Silver Rose, which I don't know much about because, silly me, I didn't know this was not a stand-alone story, but rather the last (I think) book in a series. I would not recommend reading this one before cracking open The Dark Queen, The Courtesan, and The Silver Rose. I'm giving this book a 4 1/2 because while the story is a good one, the author's dialog seemed at times a bit too modern (although there were sprinklings of tis's and nay's). And maybe this only bothers me because when I think of the 16 century, I think of Shakespeare and 'The lady doth protest too much, methinks' sort of writing.』
(The Huntress) 『I love book series and Susan Carroll does a great job of bringing you back to the charecters you know, yet, if you are new to her writing still makes it a wonderful read. Having said that with this being the fourth book in the series was the toughest for me to get into. But if you like tales of the Silver Rose, combined with some history and romance , enjoy. I did. Can't wait for the next one.』
(Just Okay) 『If you read the other books in the Dark Queen series you will want to read The Huntress. Alone, the book would not have a leg to stand on. The book follows the same plot lines as the previous novels in the series. The plot drags in a lot of areas and is very predictable. Cat, while interesting at times, could have been better developed as a character as well as Maegera. I also did not like when the book switched character point of views in some chapters.
Catherine's short appearances were another weaker point in the book. It did not add much in terms of plot development and the way she was written made her seem as threatening to the characters as a parakeet.
The Cheney Sisters were barely mentioned and Ariane only made a cameo appearance. Miri and Gabrielle, were absent for all of the book with a few short sentences making a few statements about Miri's life. Maybe the author is setting up for Book 5 by not discussing them in this book. Since the series is really about the Cheney Sisters I would have liked for them to be interwoven into the plot.
I have to be honest that I am a little surprised with all the 5 star reviews. The book carries a great deal of flaws. All in all a decent afternoon read but not a book I would recommend or give it a glowing review.』
(Quality writing you expect from Susan Carroll) 『Susan Carroll is the author of the Daughters of the Earth series: The Dark Queen, The Courtesan, and The Silver Rose.
This series is set in France in the 1580s. This book is the story of Cat O'Hanlon, the assistant to Ariane Cheney Deauville. Cat, the Huntress, is skilled in warfare of all sorts, including swords, and longbow. Ariane, the oldest of three sisters, is a healer and leader on Faire Isle, off the coast of France, a haven for the Daughters of the Earth, sort of white witches.
There are evil witches, including Queen Catherine de Medici, and a group sworn to serve the Silver Rose, a witch whose destiny is to destroy Catherine and lead the Daughters to great power through her ability to decipher the ancient Book of Shadows. The Silver Rose is actually Meg, the young daughter of Martin le Loup. Martin and Meg are in hiding somewhere in England, and Cat must find them and protect them, and bring them to the Faire Isle for safekeeping. Martin is in London working in the theatre, and for Walsingham, the advisor to Queen Elizabeth I, as a spy.
It is an exciting time when men can make their fortunes through strategic alliances. Martin is devoted to his young daughter, wants to raise her as a young gentlewoman, and hopes to make her forget all memories of her witch mother, Cassandra and her knowledge of the Book of Shadows. Cat cannot make Martin flee to the Faire Isle, so she remains in their house to keep them safe. Cat also tries to help a very confused Meg, and to ignore her feelings for Martin.
Evil and dark events threaten both Meg and Martin, as minions of the Dark Queen, Catherine de Medici and followers of the Silver Rose both try to get to Meg and the Book. Queen Elizabeth faces threats from plotters and must decide how to deal with the menace of her older Catholic sister, Queen Mary. There are dashing fights, fires, arrows, devious plots, arrests by the queen's soldiers, tattoos of allegiance, magic and romance galore in this thrilling sequel to The Silver Rose.
Armchair Interviews says: Susan Carroll does it again.』
(Fantastic addition to the series) 『I was so glad to find this continuation of the Dark Queen series. This novel is full of the same suspense and intrique as the other novels, but this one brings a new levity and sense of humor with it that the others lacked in. I hope that Susan Carroll will continue with the story lines of the characters introduced in this book, because while more of the Cheney loose ends were addressed, now there are a whole new set to contend with. Happy reading.』 『In a time of intrigue and betrayal, the huntress is on a quest that could jeopardize two empires and two great queens: Catherine de Medici and Elizabeth I.
The year is 1585–and prophecy has foretold the coming of a daughter of the Earth whose powers are so extraordinary they could usurp the very rule of the Dark Queen herself, Catherine de Medici. Dispatched from Brittany to London, Catriona O’Hanlon, known as the Huntress, must find this mysterious young girl and shield her from those who will exploit her mystic abilities, which have the potential to change the course of history.
Catriona’s skill with weaponry is all she has to protect herself and her young charge from spies who snake through the courts of Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen–including the girl’s own father, whose loyalties are stretched to the breaking point. But Catriona will soon face menacing forces and sinister plots unlike any she has ever encountered.
From Susan Carroll, the celebrated storyteller of historical fiction,The Huntressis an unforgettable portrait of power and passion–and one woman’s courage to risk everything for those she loves.
