The vast majority of this book is just very descriptive accounts of Michael's extreme promiscuity and sexual addiction. It made me sick. He adds some emotion to it for effect, but I don't buy it. Most of the book is spent bragging about himself. I can't tell you how disappointed I was and I really wish I had quit reading the book when I realized it was all about his escapades with women-- many of whom were in his shows. Yes, he'd wake up some mornings with several of them in his bed!
There is a little worth reading though. I got his side of what happened to Riverdance. But mostly, I felt sick to my stomach at his pervertedness and felt extreme sorrow for how he treated his first beautiful wife.
This may be an updated version to what I've read, but he is married to a different girl than the one he was with and was engaged to in the book I read, and he now has a son. Poor kid.

There is not a tightly constructed plot as such ,more a series of incidents heavy on the humour which -be aware ,is often slightly risque (there is a shot of bare bottoms for example which may bother the more prudish ).
Ford and Fonda are wonderful as you might expect from two actors who always looked at home in the saddle and they bring authority and unforced pathos to the roles .Sue Ann Langdon and Hope Holliday as the two women who waylay them along the road ,are equally fine and Burt Kennedy directs with assurance and a relaxed authority .The photography is warm and mellow -just like the rest of this always funny ,often tender and frequently hilarious gem of a movie』

This is a wonderful comedy about two old cowboys (Fonda and Ford) who whoop off their money in town, and then are forced by necessity to go back to work for the winter working for a niggardly rancher (Chill Wills), 'topping off' (breaking) wild cayuses and rounding up wild cattle. Then, in the Spring, the cycle is repeated with the same result.
On the ranch there is as a roan horse that is strongly reminiscent of the strawberry roan of Marty Robbins' song, which the boys view with a love/hate relationship. They end up owning him, in lieu of payment for some of their work.
The two meet two airheaded girls, with predictable results, and the story develops from there.
I found the movie entertaining, hilarious, and I hope you do too.

IPhone 3G used's review (Combo of Chorus Line, Golden Girls,&42nd Street) 『Liza Minelli is such a brilliantly expressive actor and dancer, that she can overcome any tired cliche that's thrown at her (starting with the title of this film), and this one has cliches that weren't even cliches in 1991. She's so great in every scene that the viewer forgets that the talents of Andrea Martin, for example, are wasted. Wasted. Shelley Winters gets a slightly better chance to show her skills, as the wizened, retired theatre exponent who nonetheless plays piano part-time for the troupe, almost *defiantly* lousy. (But at the big show, there she is in the orchestra pit!). Yes, men are beasts throughout this early-era militant feminist flick. The only non-beast is the solitary xy-entity in the class, a sissified straight guy, badly acted and terrifically danced by Bill Irwin. Liza plays a very talented but luckless dancer, good enough to be a successful understudy for a Broadway musical, but with a seven year period of rejection. She moves on to teaching dance during the day and singing in boyfriends' sorta jazz-rock group at night. Talkin' 'bout "beasts", this dude is a real sullen one; he's splittin' for the coast despite his lady's committment to a charity and the discovery that he's gonna be a daddy. As much as Irwin overacts, this guy is like some Kris Kristofferson wannabe, without the cigarettes and major chords. Amazing how the progressive, independent, intellectual Mavis (LM) has hooked up with this downbeat, self-absorbed bar band legend. She looks him straight in the eye and says, most demonstratively, she may or may not let the child be born, anyway. She'll telephone him when she works that part out. Her charity seems to extend to raising money for groups of people but not extending the gift of life to one. That's her Constitutional right...but it's a depressing turn in the character development for this plotline. Another bad guy is the violent husband of another dancer, a meek, peaceful soul who works her heart out for the homeless, but somewhere along the way married a class-A humiliator, and over-rated Corporate climber. He shows up at the benefit to rip his wife away from the proceedings - but her meek male counterpart, Irwin, throws a punch at this guy...and he ducks away. Earlier, she established that the answer to a horrible marriage is to filander with the dancing partner. Interesting. The movie spends alot of time with the back-stories of the dancers - a la "A Chorus Line" - and not enough with the actual footwork. How in the heck could they get that great with Shelley playing "chopsticks" in three tempos all day. And why wasn't she relegated to part-time receptionist [no sexism intended] when Irwin demonstrates a boogie woogie piano style that would turn Jerry Lee Lewis' head? No, no - we'll stick with Shelley and the play-by-numbers. Okay, if we're gonna keep our shaky keyboardist, how can we polish our act? She's not exactly resourceful on the 88s. The film should have spent some kind of time on how these amateurs delt with *that* challenge. In the end, we have the kind of Hollywood Musical that Liza Minelli's Mother and friend/co-worker Mickey Rooney excelled at. And the finale does have that "feel good" feeling - but coming from the dancing, from teamwork, not from assertions of independence. And we have an added element to the big finale - Mavis gave birth! She didn't abort the child because she was too busy being a humanitarian!!

On one hand, the cast was wonderful - especially Henry Fonda and Paul Newman, as father and son. The movie went a long way in capturing the feel of the fictional town of Wakonda, including the river and many of the secondary characters found within the book.
However, it would be practically impossible for any group of filmmakers and actors to translate the magic found within the pages of this novel onto the silver screen. While I salute and commend the people behind this film, there was no reasonable way to include all the richness of the novel in a Hollywood film. Certain key elements of the book were left out of the movie (Lee and Viv's romance being an important section left on the cutting-room floor). All in all, a noble effort but flawed and lacking compared to the book.』

(Never Give an Inch) 『Another movie hard to find was once billed with two different names.The title here and also "Never Give an Inch" With Paul Newman's first directorial debut it hits on all cylinders. With Henry Fonda as the patriarch, this film purveys strength in carrying on with true work ethic beliefs. The wayward son returning home and digging in to share the family values shows faith and belief that a lot of famlies today should adhere. It's always a great notion to never give an inch.

Henry Fonda is interesting as Newman's father, but the film never finds its footing. (great show, disappointing packaging) 『I purchased this after selling my boxed sets. I wish I had just kept them. The packaging consists of a cardboard box with a cardboard "book" that has cheap cardboard sleeve inserts for the dvds so I had to buy a new case to put the dvds in to prevent scratching (if you own the Sex and the City dvd collection its almost the same concept), the ribbon that lifts the "book" out of the box became detached right away and I notice creasing that developed in the cardboard pages which makes me think they will eventually wear out and tear the pages apart. Bonus features were very disappointing, I have the Sex and the City dvd collection and they had better bonus features. There could have been montages, farewell colllections, video clips, award show scenes or something. No interviews with James Gandolfini at all! I just think HBO went cheap considering the status and impact that this show had. Whaddya gonna do about it though right?』
