(Be Prepared!!!) 『I bought this DVD in April to watch with my parents when I came to visit on break from college. We're all Andrew Lloyd Webber fans but had never seen this concert before, so I knew we'd enjoy it.
I was prepared to love the DVD; I was not prepared to spend $300 in the 2.5 months following the purchase of the DVD buying up all the Michael Ball items I could get my hands on--including joining his fan club.
He steals the show, and you absolutely fall in love with him from his first song. Words cannot describe...so I will not even try.
As for the other performances, Elaine Paige was amazing, of course. Antonio's Evita performances were very enjoyable but found him lacking in Phantom. Tina Arena gives a powerful performance, and Donny and Glenn were better than I expected.
Outside of Memory and Ball's performances, my favorite has to be "No Matter What" by Boyzone. They give boy bands a good name.
This DVD will be watched and re-watched and become a household favorite but be prepared to become hopelessly devoted to Michael Ball.』

I think they make movies like those over the top, they start with simple ideas and then bombard the audience with alot of visual effects and no plot. I saw very little character development. It just seems to me that movie makers want to compete on who can make the most hyper movie. Visual effects are great but when it detracts from the message of the over all movie it is just plain silly. However, the scene where they give the teachers all there old favorite games and things it was really fun, those are what make movies a little more magical is to do unexspected things without the hyperness. There were some clever funny parts but the end with the battle and the wedding were too much. Over all it is a great movie to watch as a family. The best part about the movies is that it is clean and it good for everyone.』

(Has it been 20 years since The Wonder Years) 『The Wonder Years (1988 to 1993) was a look back to the late 60's/early 70's in America and all the social turbulence of a decade we all are still trying to get over (yes, even us offspring of the hippies, etc) ... and the commentary was piercing. The show was a great look back at just how much changed during those rocky years before 80's materialism and 90's realism, and then the 21st century's come uppance. It was about the loss of innocence for an entire collective generation and kind of explained why baby boomers still seem to want to stay young. Hello ... it's been 20 years since the then 40-somethings went into nostalgia for 20 years ago. But history is seductive the older it gets.』
(Very good show - led the way for Malcolm in the Middle and many others) 『Wonder Years was one of the most captivating and favorite shows I've followed in the 90's. Watching re-runs on TV can bring that sense of nostalgia because the show was that impactful. It doesn't necessarily have to appeal to hardcore fans. The show contains mild comedy and that 'coming-of-age' style story that makes it one of the best dramas in 90's TV.
The show chronicles the life of Kevin Arnold, a caucasian middle-class adolecent growing up on the well titled wonder years or the 60's. Basically, he gives us his anecdote about growing up in those years and how he as an adolecent overcame most of life's obstacles - something many teens face. The best thing about the show was that it contained some situations that many teens faced in life - here we see how to overcome it and the hilarity and familiarity of it. It's also about love, family and high school. The show's fame mirrored onto shows such as Dilbert, Hey Arnold and The Simpsons - where the narrator Daniel Stern voiced Bart's adventures as he assumed the role of Kevin Arnold.
The show has a strong premise. We all have experienced love, loss, fights, authroity, being grounded and ambition. The Wonder Years started out a bit shaky but eventually gained fame after showing with perfection how a normal adolecent hurdle life's obstacles while living through the 60's. The show is very recommenable. If the DVD set ever comes out, you should purchase it then.』

Might I remind her that the quality of any video featuring Fred Savage can never be poor and, while I can appreciate her sentiments that more episodes = more Fred Savage, two episodes of the Wonder Years featuring Fred Savages remarkable and moving portrayal of Kevin are still excellent and worthy of rather more than two stars! For shame!』

This set contains five films. Three, "Thunderball", "The Spy Who Loved Me", and "Licence to Kill" are some of the best in the series. "A View to a Kill" and "Die Another Day" are largely forgettable but at least they aren't horrible.
You can get these movies seperately in single-disc form, or you can do what I did and buy this collection! Not only do you get all the movies in pristine new transfers, along with 5.1 surround, but you also get a second disc for each movie loaded with more extras than you can imagine. Behind-the-scenes stuff, rare outtakes, radio ads, trailers, etc. It's pretty comprehensive for each movie.
As for the movies themselves, well, as I said, there's three excellent films here, and even the two that aren't great at least aren't bad. Four stars for the film selection and five for the extras! Let's give it five stars total. Not bad!』
