Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Bi-Lingual Fan) 『The reason I've decided to review this movie is because I wanted to offer a little advice to those of you who are searching on-line. I gave Barbie Fairytopia 5 stars for 3 reasons.
First it comes in both English&Spanish audio versions. This is a rare feature with children's titles, but a must have for our family. If any of you are thinking about teaching your child a second language, watching cartoons is the easiest way for them to pick it up. My daughter understands more Spanish then I've ever spoken at home because of these "Bonus" language tracks included.
Second, it is an actual movie with total run time of 70 minutes. This is wonderful for those parents who might need a few minutes of peace and quiet every now&then. I hate buying a feature and it turns out to be 4-30 minute TV episodes, which actually translates to be 4-23 minute episodes. My daughter loses interest after the first episode and never fully returns to enjoy the entire thing. This feature offers a warm story line based on bravery, loveable characters, and good quality graphics.
And finally, I loved the price. I bought it on Amazon.com for under $10 which now a days is just as rare as Spanish. I always regret paying full price of $19.99 for a brand new DVD only to find my 2 year-old using the new DVD as her new play toy. It's kind of hard to take away baby's new Barbie movie from baby or teach them why scratches are bad for playability. (I hope you parents out there understand what I'm trying to say.) In conclusion, this is a great movie for a great price.』

(My girls love it!) 『My girls, ages 4 and 2, really like this movie. They find the Fungi (the "bad guys") a little scary. They also point out that Laverna is really mean. The Fungi are gross-looking (in my opinion) and kind of creepy. Other than that, the movie has a good message about doing what is right, and about being unselfish.

However, if you believe a good film is something that REQUIRES all those components, then dont even watch CHRISTMAS ON MARS. You'd be confused, disappointed, and bored. However, if you loved CLERKS, for being a $30,000 self financed film, or ERAISERHEAD for Lynch's near 7 year effort to see it completed , or 200 MOTELS for being a rock band film that tried to be bizarre for its own artistic sake, then go ahead and buy this film. You'd enjoy it, even if you never HEARD of the Flaming Lips. Because this film rests on the D.I.Y concept behind Eraiserhead, Clerks and 200 Motels. You dont need to be graduate of Film school, to make a film. Just a lot of Moxie, and imagination, and this movie has plenty of both.
Actually, its safe to say that, like much of the LIPS music, the influences for the film are a strange combination of the surreal, the punk-adelic, and high concept "ART" music, or here, arty concept cinema. CHRISTMAS ON MARS takes a huge influence from Lynch, Krubrick's 2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY, as well as from no-budget scifi 60s films like SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARSIANS. The film's 2001 SPACE ODYSSEY parody gets underscored by everything from the SPACE BABY, to Steven Drozd's role of some type of psychologist,(HAL) observing an isolated space station, spouting philosophy and failed attempts to analyse his own, and the crews' hallucinations. (If you want a taste of the dialogue, just read ANY of the FLAMING LIPS liner notes on their albums, or Wayne's interviews about his work. Its filled with the same acid head philosophy, and dry, hippie-punk humor.) The movie is mostly in black and white. When it comes time to show us the alien, and how he travels thru space, its accomplished with cheap, tho well imagined, makeup and costumes, along with ultra psychedelic color saturated video effects, and LOUD freak out music. HALUCINATION becomes literal space travel for the Alien. These freak out TECHNICOLOR scenes, coupled with feedback electronics also represent the Mars space station workers hallucinations. The mind of the people, and the station, deteriorates, and only the space alien Santa, and the birth of a baby on Christmas Eve, can save the station. That's the plot, more or less. How much the Space Baby in 2001, or Eraserhead's baby, is a jumping off point for CHRISTMAS ON MARS, and how much is an homage to the meaning of Christmas, who can say? Does it matter? The film is too much fun on its own terms.
This XMAS SCIFI film succeeds for the same reasons good, low budget community theater succeeds. The imagination of the audience is required, to make the whole thing work. The FLAMING LIPS D.I.Y. punk esthetic allows the film to be successful on its own standards. This is why MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR didnt work for the Beatles. They already had a very professional film esthetic developed, when they made a very experimental non professional film. It was not what people expected from the Beatles. This film, however, is exactly what you might expect from THE FLAMING LIPS. They have been working on it for 7 years, and many thought it would NEVER be released. If you enjoyed the way SCIFI comedy was approached by MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000, mixed with wierd band films like 200 MOTELS by Zappa, this film's "concept" will not be lost on you. The most funny, freaky "monster" in scifi history, has to be the space alien Santa Claus. The real monster is THE HALUCINATION BABY carried by some "genital headed" man in a space suit. It's not as scary as Lynch's ERAISERHEAD baby, but its at least as wierd. The SPACE BABY is the theme of the film. The obvious message of a "space" baby born on Christmas Eve, which might save humanity thru hope, is about as subtle as a brick to the head. But , its nice to be reminded of Humanitys need to have hope, and feel faith there's a meaning of the universe. Whats enigmatic, or at least confusing, is that there are TWO babies in the film. What the interaction is between the hallucination monster baby, and the SPACEBABY in the plastic bubble, born on Christmas Eve, who knows. Justaposistion of outer opjective reality and inner, psychic meaning may be part of this film's thematic continity.
Fans of the band will love the film, especially if they enjoy their "YOSHIMI" period. Beyond that, I think fans of experimental, low budget film with a freaky conceptual basis, would enjoy the film as well. Some of the sets have a sort of "FOUND ART" beauty in them. Visually, the film looks as tho a lot more money was spent on sets and scifi experimental gadgets, than was actually spent. If you liked the artwork for the YOSHIMI album, and CD singles, then you'll like the visual feel of this film. There's lot of extras on the DVD, including interviews with all the band members, and a nice segment where Wayne shows you his storyboards, and visual concepts, behind the development of this project. Personally, this is a film you either really like, or hate. I love SCIFI, i love the band's sound, and i love this type of "positive attitude" hipster philosophy, and i love the D.I.Y. look of the film, so I think the whole thing is great.』

"Vagina" is the subliminal message to this film and against a weak story. Not to mention the horrible acting and too much unnecessary cussing. Where is the music? Where is the psychedelia? Where are The Flaming Lips' music? Bleak and a waste of two hours!!!』
(What you'd expect from the flaming lips...) 『This is a difficult movie to review. While watching it I couldn't decide whether or not I liked it or if it was meeting my expectations. However, I felt myself being drawn into Wayne's strange and eerie but kinda warm imagination as the movie went along. There is more to the story then what I had heard through other people that had already seen it. In no way is this just some random story with a weak plot and trippy visuals. I rather enjoyed the story and think they did a great job capturing the human psyche and heart. Humans are a resilient bunch of living things and can overcome quite a bit but what the movie really gets at is how humans are not supposed to live in space, at least not with a little help from something supernatural. A good human story in that if you can get past the sometimes week acting and low budget filming you can really enjoy what these guys have tried to do. The reason I give this four stars is not because of the weak acting and low budget filming. I was hoping to see a little more flaming lips music in this movie rather then just backround music the whole time. I see what they were trying to do but maybe if they make another movie it could be more flaming lips music that we all know and love mixed with some random scenes and visuals that only could come out of Wayne's endless imagination. Purchase it and come into it with an open mind. Give it a real chance all the way through to the end and if nothing else you should at least be touched (that is if you are human).』

One of them was when we had field day and I refused to participate because the games that they had were stupid and for babies. I didn't tell anybody that a couple a games were for babies except for my mom and my older sister another time. The day my teacher a note home to my family about me not doing field day and I was grounded as a result.』
(Showstopping Disney Sing Along Songs video) 『Of all the Disney Sing Along Songs on video, this is my favorite. As fans of Disney Sing Along Songs on DVD will know, there is a new intro for the DVDs featuring Sebastian the crab and a new theme song. Well on the early VHS versions the theme song featured Mr Owl. Sing Along Songs: Friend Like Me was the first video to revamp the original theme song, and it does such a great job, upping the music tempo and really getting you excited for this latest offering.
The showstopping Disney Sing Along Songs video hosted by Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio starts off with the showstopper "Friend Like Me" from what was the new big animated feature Aladdin. From here we get the classic song "Best Of Friends" from The Fox&The Hound and "Something There" from Beauty&The Beast. Next we have "How Do You" from the as yet unreleased on video or DVD- Song Of The South. Following this is a new high octane version of the classic song "Friendship", sung this time by Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Donald Duck. "Harmony" from the television series of The Little Mermaid featuring the beautiful voice of Jodi Benson as Ariel is next. Afterwards we're back to the classics with "Let's Get Together" from the original version of The Parent Trap and "That's What Friend's Are For" from The Jungle Book. Finally, we get to sing along with "A Whole New World" from Aladdin, as well as having the opportunity to sing Friend Like Me once more.

IPhone 3G used's review (Zero to hero.) 『Disney released its 35th full-length film in early 1997 and much like all Disney films be prepared for musical numbers to tell the story.....but they are done by Alan Menken....so it isn't all that bad. The plot is set early in the film: Hades wishes to over-throw Mt. Olympus and imprison the legendary gods that live atop the mystical mountain. So Hades summons the sisters of fate to predict the outcome - their forecast is anything but reassuring. A child will be born on Olympus that will defeat Hades' plot - if Hercules fights Hades will lose. So Hades sends his to loyal henchmen, Pain and Panic, to steal the baby from Zeus and feed him an elixir that will remove the young Hercules' godhood and allow Hades to kill the newborn. Well, in typical style, Pain and Panic, botch the assignment and Hercules retains his godly strength. This is a key event in the movie....since it is Hercules' strength the makes him an outcast among the mortals.....and during his teenage years he heads toward the Temple of Zeus looking for answers. This is when the young Herc learns of his true heritage....but before he can join his father on Olympus, Hercules must become a true hero. To aide him, Zeus returns his companion Pegasus, a flying white steed and tells him to find Philoctetes.
After receiving these instructions, Hercules seeks out the guidance of Philoctetes - the trainer of heroes. Shortly after his departure, Hercules finds a satyr spying on two wood nymphs - wouldn't you know it, this peeping Phil is the goatman he's been looking for. After a little encouragement from Zeus, Phil accepts the young student as his pupil - this is no small task, however, Hercules may have monstrous strength, but he's as coordinated as a dancer with two left feet. After Hercs' training we meet another key character in the film, Megara, who made a deal with Hades that allows him to keep her soul. Stumbling upon the River Guardian, Herc takes it upon himself to rescue this damsel in distress. We soon learn that this was no chance meeting.....Hades has made another deal with Meg - if she can manipulate Herc...Hades will release her soul - but this path soon finds a fork in the road when Meg and Herc fall in love.....this becomes a major problem since the deadline to attack Olympus is drawing near. This sets up the next key event in the movie....Hades schemes up a dubious plot that uses Meg's own life as bait to force Hercules to relinquish his strength for twenty four hours. The two strike the deal but with one stipulation: if Meg gets hurt Hercules will regain his strength. I don't think I'll go any further...I don't want to spoil the film for those who haven't seen it....and if your anticipation levels are high, the rest of the film promises to raise them even more. Will Meg get hurt and allow Hercules to regain his strength? Will Hades defeat the twelve gods of Olympus? Will the film end with a happily ever after?』
(Good Entertainment For Older Kids) 『This movie is entertaining and has a wonderful moral lesson in the end. I bought it for my toddlers, and although it contains stimulating animation, they did not enjoy all the battles Hercules had to endure. It is a movie based on the mythical hero, but completely incorrect from an historic point of view. Maybe my kiddos will like it a bit more in a couple of years.』
(Not so accurate....) 『Though this movie is great for an hour and forty five minutes of entertainment its accuracy is something from another planet. If your looking to educate your children about the gods this isn't the right movie. However, if you want a little play-off on the gods and goddesses this is perfect. Its packed with humor and adventure, perfect for any ages. If you want some fun stories to read to your child I would recomend the D'AULAIRES book of greek myths.

The continual peppering of in-jokes and cultural references becomes less irksome on video. That there's no majesty or awe invested in the beloved Greek legends also seems less of an error. Also on the plus side is the bounciest Alan Menken music sinceLittle Shop of Horrors. With Zeus's blood in his veins, young Hercules's amazing strength makes him an outcast (sorry, that still doesn't fly), so he trains with a satyr named Phil to become a hero. Along the way Herc meets Meg, a common mortal who falls hard for him. They're both against the jocular Hades, who has to destroy Hercules to take over Olympus. The hydra is the computer-animated set piece for this little number, a no-chance attempt to beat that wildebeest herd fromThe Lion King.--Keith Simanton』

(One of the Best in Disneydom) 『Woefully underrated, 'Pete's Dragon' surpasses many other Disney classics because the plotline and characters are completely original, and every single song (10 in all) is terrific. I can still sing them all. (Compare them with some of the inane ballads in 'Pocahontas' and 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame.')
The story follows the escape of an orphan, Pete, from his abusive adoptive "family," aided by the dragon who has arrived, seemingly from nowhere, to rescue him. Elliot is childlike, cheery, and bumbling (or so it seems); however, the sheer physical size and flaming breath that make him a formidable protector also make him a social handicap when Pete tries to blend in in the coastal town of Passamaquoddy. (The invisible dragon stumbles through wet cement, obliviously takes down fences and other structures with his tail, etc., making Pete the bane of the town.)
If you or your child has extremely delicate sensibilities, you may want to preview this movie or bypass it altogether. Lampie is a drunk. In the same tradition as Lemony Snicket, Harry Potter, and the Roald Dahl books, 'Pete's Dragon' features cruel, uncaring parent figures and other adults with intent to harm. Even the schoolteacher seems to hate kids. I'm not sure if it was legal in the early 1900s to purchase an orphan, but that's the premise here. Two of the songs include graphic descriptions of physical violence--the Gogan family sing about beating Pete when they reclaim custody, and the evil Doctor Terminus and his sidekick sing about cutting up Elliot to make potions out of his parts--that could upset some very protective parents. The songs are NOT gratuitous, though, and serve to underscore the danger these characters are in.
Their cruelty IS offset by the two caring, capable adults, Lampie and Nora. (My favorite scene is Nora putting herself between Pete and the Gogans, who have come to town in pursuit of their purchase, the "bill of sale" in hand.)
The cast is flawless, and the movie is consistently engaging from beginning to end. Morals and themes include standing up for others, accepting others' differences, making room for newcomers, and having faith in discouraging circumstances.』 『Disney loved to mix live action with animation (Mary Poppins,Bedknobs and Broomsticks), but this 1977 effort falls on its face. The turn-of-the-century story concerns an orphaned boy whose only friend is a cartoon monster.
