(Good frame for a good price) 『I've just started getting into bigger prints, trying to make the most out of my new DSLR. I don't believe photo frames should be expensive, unless you're framing up some exotic and really expensive art piece. With that rationale, I decided to give MCS Plastic Format Frame a try. If it turned out to be shoddy work then at least it wouldn't be such an expensive mistake.
But it lived up to its expectations; maybe even exceeded them. This frame is front loading, so you push the glass out from the front. It's fast and easy. Perhaps some will be worried that the glass (yes, not plastic) will fall out, but the catches are pretty sturdy and I haven't had any problems.
On the back, there are holes on the cross-frame structure for you to hang on the wall, either by landscape or portrait orientation. This 11x14 doesn't come with a stand to make it a table-top frame, but the smaller MCS frames do. Overall, I'm really pleased with this product and will buy many more in the future to frame up any nice prints.』

(I Love This Film and Watch It Over and Again -- A CLASSIC) 『This is an excellent film. Nonconformists and those who like to look at things differently than the "regular consensus" might appreciate this film the most.
Yet it is not strange or uncommon. It is brilliantly honest and truthful in a way few films are. It is (somewhat) based on a portion of the life of Charles Bukowski who wrote the screenplay and claimed not to feel the film portrayed what he was really like. It actually probably flattered him a bit much, as Rourke was incredibly attractive somehow in this role. Cinematic magic indeed. Faye Dunaway was also par excellence in her role as an over-the-hill female drunk barfly.
However this movie is WAY too expensive no matter how good it is. Therefore it really needs to be re-released. With the release of the DVD of this film in 2002 the company that released it make way too few copies. They did not realize what a TRUE CLASSIC they have on their hands. They need to realize this and re-release it so that the common folk can afford to buy a copy too. You can sign an online petition to this effect by Googling "barfly dvd petition." That will take you there. Please do sign it. I did!
By the way, I did not list all the reasons I love this movie. Kind of running short on time but believe me I could go on and on for QUITE a while about all the reasons I LOVE this film. ESPECIALLY for the "thinking wo/man."』
(Bukowski's Only Screenplay is a Masterpiece) 『Anyway who criticizes Mickey Rourke's performance in BARFLY has never really been really drunk. Even if Bukowski himself never wanted Mickey Rourke to play the role, it doesn't mean much. Bukowski would of hated anyone who played the role of his alter ego Hank Chinaski. I don't think he would of cared much for Matt Dillon in that role either.
The Charles Bukowski novel "Hollywood" chronicles the disastrous making-of this film as well as the haphazard screen writing assignment of BARFLY. The novel Hollywood is indeed as another reviewer described a must read after or prior to watching the film. Not to spoil the book "Hollywood" but in the end even Bukowski comes around to Rourke. Describing him as the only Stand-up guy involved in the film at the end of the day.
The film was produced by the same producer of DEATH WISH 4 which should give you an idea of what the director and cast had to deal with to make this film.
BARFLY is a testament to the times when you realize that the real drunks and real writers who had populated the outskirts of the Hollywood landscape are all gone. Leaving us with only posers like Sean Penn who ride the coat tails of genuine artists like Charles Bukowski.』
(20 Years Later: Not nearly as good as I remember.) 『Barfly (Barbet Schroeder, 1987)
When I was a young poet, like most people who became young poets in the seventies and eighties, one of my idols was Charles Bukowski. So when Barfly came out, I rushed to see it, and was awed. I've carried the nostalgia for it around for twenty years, and finally decided to see it again. Somewhat to my surprise, I found I'd been looking at it through rather rose-colored glasses all this time.
Watching it now, the biggest problem with the movie is Mickey Rourke, whose hipster-wannabe portrayal of Bukowski's alter ego Henry Chinaski draws far more from Arthur Fonzarelli than the Beats (not that Bukowski ever identified with the Beats). When he's on his game, Rourke is a fantastic actor, but here he overacts the role to death, creating a thoroughly unbelievable character.
While critics of the film during its original release were quick to point out that it mirrors Bukowski's writings ("depressing and pointless", my mother's favorite radio talk show host called it), and I took that at face value twenty years ago, I'm not so sure it's the case now. While the atmosphere is certainly close enough for jazz, and all the little quirks that make Bukowski's life filmable pop up, the major contradictions of which those quirks were symptomatic don't put in much of an appearance. People in the film address the central concept that Buk was, in fact, a whole lot smarter than everyone around him, but Rourke's portrayal never brings that to light. A lot of people ask why he chooses to live as a bum, but neither Rourke nor Schroeder is quick to offer an answer. To be fair, Buk might not have had one, but his writings and interviews from the period during which he wrote the screenplay would suggest otherwise. I think the film was meant as an answer, and it simply didn't come through.
As usual where nostalgia is concerned, the product doesn't match the memory of the product. **』
(I fell in love with it...) 『Very few movies have that certain something that just makes them so endearing that a viewer can just keep coming back and watching the movie maybe 100 some odd times and never tire of it. For me, Barfly is one of those few. I was a big fan of Bukowski's writings long before I saw this movie, and while Bukowski himself may not have liked this film, I would remind those that agree with him that Bukowski didn't like any movies, so naturally he's going to be inclined to hate one that he wrote most of all. Don't listen to the drones that will tell you this movie is bad because it romanticises alcoholism... they're just pansies. Just as Bukowski said himself, "anything can be an art," I will say that romance can exist in anything as well.』 『The script for this movie was written by outrageous poet-author-alcoholic Charles Bukowski. But director Barbet Schroeder makes it into an oddly amusing story of a pugnacious drunk writer (Mickey Rourke) based on Bukowski himself. Rourke spends almost all of his time at the bar, struggling with sobriety (he's against it) and, occasionally, having fistfights with the bartender (Frank Stallone). He meets another souse, a formerly attractive woman (Faye Dunaway), and gets involved with her, which means they drink copious amounts of liquor and try to have sex. The best that can be said for this movie is that their hearts were in the right place, and the scenery is gorgeous. Plus they did cast Iron Eyes Cody as one of the leads. The lead actress, however, can't really act, and whoever cast Alex Cord as Grayeagle should have their head examined. He is an adequate actor in Western roles but at the time this movie was made there were some American Indian actors perfectly capable of playing this role. Vies with Winterhawk for worst '70's picture in this vein.』
(Great Cinematography/Confusing Plot) 『This late-seventies movie had lovely cinematography and haunting music, but beyond that there's little to hold the viewer's interest. The film lacked direction and important plot details were sketchy or entirely missing. The transition of the girl from kidnap victim to grateful granddaughter was hazy; it took a couple rewinds for us to figure out what the heck the old man's relationship to her was, and we're no slackers when it comes to following a storyline. There just seemed to be no discernible direction; it felt like a vignette rather than an honest film. Grayeagle came across as an ambitious movie that overreached itself and fell flat. Its political correctness made it even less palatable. The acting was fine on the part of Alex Cord and Ben Johnson, as well as many of the Indians, but the girl was awful, unable to evoke much from the viewer except annoyance or pity. The only reason we watched it is we're big Alex Cord fans, but felt like this movie was a waste of his talent and our time. It did have hints of romance but went absolutely nowhere in that area, either, leaving us puzzled instead of edified. Recommended only to huge fans of Alex Cord or Ben Johnson.』
(Lovely) 『I was awaken to the music/soundtrack from this movie. I had never heard of Alex Cord until the music peaked my interest. This is a very well written narrative. The Depiction of the loving High Cheyenne Warrior towards the great elderly dying Cheyenne Indian chief, Running Wolf, was very touching. The means he went through to make this great chiefs dream come true was realistic of the dedication some nationalities have towards their elderly. Americans toss aside their elderly as if they are of no value to society after a certain age. However this movie shows the Indian heritage as truly realizing the value of the wisdom our ancestors and seniors provide.
I have enjoyed this movie each time I have viewed it. I love the scenes of gentleness Greyeagle demonstrates so subtly towards Lana Wood as Beth Coulter and observing the tenderness between the young Running Wolf and the beautiful actress who protrays Ida Coulter, Beth's mother.
Alex Cord is fantastic as Greyeagle. A striking, strong portrayal of an Indian Warrior. What woman would not be amazed at this man's features and demonstration of strength with regards to his dedication to a cause.
It would be well worth anyones time to view the truly sweet, innocent and thought provoking movie. Rarely do you find a movie so sweet with no vulgarity at all.』

But, now I consider myself at a high intermediate level, I pulled this one out of the collection, and the weights, and the push-ups, and the lower body work are too short and are not a challenge, the aerobics will make you break a sweat, and raise your heart rate. But not much of a challenge. So overally this video is for beginners only, if you are not a begginer, but want weight work, try Jane Fonda's Toning and Shaping/Workout with Weights video, and alternate it with a video with more challenging aerobics such as the Lean Routine, which has an hour of aerobics with the option of High or Low impact or the New workout, which has 12/16 minutes of aerobics that is very very high impact.』

(Good Workout Great Value) 『This is a really good workout for your lighter days, but do not be mistaken it is still a challenge. This video has a weights segment, aerobics segment, toning and streching. I have read other reviews that said this video was not a good workout. They are wrong! You simply have to take your personal intensity up a notch. For example use hand weights in the aerobic section, and increase your speed while jumping higher. There are two groups in the class a slower pace group and faster pace group. Follow the group that best suits you. This is a great all around workout that lasts about an hour. I would do the whole video to get a better burn. And take the costumes and music with a grain of salt. I would rather do a video with average looking people in dated clothes than some of these newer videos with uber fit perfect people in them. Give this video a chance it is worth it.』

Yes, it is more lightweight compared to programs like Taebo, so it's great for those just starting out who want to get in shape, and those who aren't looking to kill themselves doing their daily workout. I'm trying to lose my extra 10 pregnancy pounds, and this video has the perfect intensity level to suit my purpose. If you're like a fitness fanatic looking to get all buff and muscley with the veins popping out everywhere, this one's not for you obviously.
This video has three distinct segments: aerobic, floor exercise, and light weight-lifting (not counting the warmup and the cooldown segments). The aerobics are very jazzy, lots of cute dance steps, very feminine. It has a celtic-themed routine, 60's inspired bobbysoxer-type dances, and some are even a little silly, with moves like 'the monkey' coupled with exaggerated grunting. But for the most part, it's not so goofy to where I'd be too embarrassed to do the workout in front of other people, even my husband. :-)
The floor exercises are pretty tough for me since I'm a wuss when it comes to pushups and situps, but it seems very well-rounded and thorough. The weight-lifting is similar in intensity, it's fairly tame compared to some other regimens but it's definitely effective for the average person.
All in all, this is a fabulous video that you will probably become very very attached to. I bought it during my first year of college, and here I am five years later still using it! :-)』
