The video is very good given the age of the material, too bad more footage was not preserved to re-cut the show. Audio is flawless.
Commentary is entertaining, although best watched as subtitles (available in several languages), since the music is very quiet between the comments which are rather sparse.

Other people b**** because somey artists are missing from the package, failing to realize that just by purchasing this product they are a helping hand part of a far bigger picture. It was the late '80 with many televised technical difficulties, and it was never Geldof's intention to record the event. Even with that said 9 hours of one of the largest donational collaborations -- promoted by some of the most insane artists of all time -- was able to be salvaged. Some of the artist were past their prime (The Beatles), others hailed the time when MTV actually played music (Sting), and a few just looked downright insulting (Bono), but all made you remember when we rock n roll was just rock n roll.』

Queen was recently able to acquire the rights to this film and they have overseen its complete top-to-bottom overhaul. The original film elements, shot on 70mm film for the highest quality image, have been completely cleaned, color corrected and restored, re-edited, and the original 24 track audio has been completely remastered and remixed to the band's exacting standards. This means you get a film that has never looked better and never sounded better. The image is gorgeous and looked amazing on my 50" HD TV, with great detail, deep blacks and beautiful vivid color courtesy of the band's bold on stage lighting rig. The beginning half is fairly cute, but Belle does a horrible job at singing the songs. The second half of the movie is very dark and the organ character is too much. The "Don't Fall in Love" song by the organ is absolutely horrible and dumb. I don't think the movie stayed true to the beast's character either. They made him a little too angry this time. He throws Belle in the dungeon and tells her that she will rot there forever. I still gave this three stars because my daughter was entertained, but I don't really like her watching it. I don't recommend buying this movie.』

Since computer-animated fare have taken over the theatre staples, Disney has turned toward the direct-to-video market, and unfortunately, knocked off some rather lame sequels to their classic animated films. If you want a great film, then stick to the original "Beauty and the Beast". Belle is still trying to win over the Beast and decides that bringing Christmas to the castle will be the way to do it. IPhone 3G used's review (Incredible time-travel romance that rivals Somewhere in Time) 『Growing up with Somewhere in Time (Collector's Edition), I was intrigued by Hallmark Hall of Fame's Love Letter, based on a haunting 1959 short story by Jack Finney. Scott Corrigan is a Civil War buff who designs Civil War simulation games (check out the 1998 computer graphics!). One day as he and his fiancee Debra are shopping for a vintage wedding gown, he discovers an antique desk and it's love at first sight, even though he can't really afford it. Scott's also a restorer in his spare time, so when he tries to polish the desk, he discovers the (common Civil War) feature of a hidden compartment that contains a small bottle of ink, a fountain pen, and some blank stationary addressed "Elizabeth Whitcomb." He also finds a sensual, romantic letter to the imaginary man of Elizabeth's dreams, and Scott actually drafts a response using Elizabeth's pen and stationary. Scott's free spirit mother Beatrice is excited about the prospect, and finds vintage 1-cent stamps. Feeling crazy, Scott mails the letter from an Antebellum post office.
And here's where the story takes a magical turn: hoping against hope, Scott opens the secret compartment to find a response, and he and Lizzie begin a romantic correspondence across time. The film does a beautiful job with the Civil War-era furnishings and costuming, and Jennifer Jason Leigh is positively radiant as Lizzie, although she is clearly older than Lizzie, whose age is given as 29. Campbell Scott is riveting as a man coming to grips with the fact that he's essentially in love with a ghost; just as in his later performance in Follow The Stars Home, he's a master at using glances and body language to convey emotion without overacting.
Fans of Somewhere in Time will likely be drawn to Love Letter, but both stories are unique. I would have to say that Love Letter is much more bittersweet, but no less enjoyable. The DVD also features a "making of" feature.』

Scotty, who buys an antique desk complete with old love letters from the 1860's. Jennifer Jason Leigh was lovely as Elizabeth Whitcomb, and you feel for her character all the way. When she stops on the stairs and feels Scotty's present (more than 100 years away from her in distance in the future), I cried. It was so bittersweet.
Estelle Parsons was great as Scotty's mom, always nice to see her. She's such a natural actress. Daphne Ashbrook was also excellent as Scotty's fiancé, who unfortunately gets hurt as the growing relationship between Scotty and Elizabeth develops. She shows a real vulnerability here and doesn't behave revengefully. Nice to see for a change!
If I would change anything I would have had the film end with the grave scene and not with the girl and her dog, to do otherwise is to suggest that Scotty won't be as faithful to Elizabeth as she was to him.

I agree that it should be released on DVD; the prices for VHS are too high for a medium that tears up easily. The storyline, about a singing star who escapes back to the area she came from to get away from showbiz, is cute but it's Dolly who makes the part. The kids are adorable and I personally think that John Ritter has the best small part he ever played. He just shines (and amuses you) as a judge. I'd watch the show for that alone. The witch is good, too, in a corny sort of way. When she eats the pie and Dolly says, "Goodnight, Irene" I always laugh. The songs are pretty good, too. Give it a try!』

The movie is a loose interpretation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs -- with a Christmas twist. I have loved this movie since I first discovered it in the video store in the 80s. I would rent it every year from high school, when I came home from college, when I got my own place. Eventually, I bought a copy off eBay and it was one of the best investments I've ever made. I just wish it were offered on DVD as my VHS is wearing out!』
