(just fun)
『This is a fun romp with Fred and Barney. Love to watch it every year. By the way your editors description is wrong. Santa is not stranded at the North Pole with a sprained ankle. He is stranded at Fred's house!!!』

(Light-hearted and fun!)
『Despite the objections of the rather odd reviewers who slandered this tape, I encourage anyone who likes the Flintstones and loves Christmas to get it. It's adorable, fun, very Christmas-y, and I watch it every year. A family classic. Basically you will know if you like it beforehand; there is nothing particularly offensive about these episodes, so as I said, if you liked both this television show and cute holiday specials, this is a good buy.

As for the accusation of every person who likes this being a communist....I don't think that even merits a response. Perhaps it was a joke.』

(beutiful)
『anouther hanna barbera christmas cartoon so hart worming do not listen to the ones that didnt like this thes are proper christmas cartoons times i never miss it when its on boomerang.』

(Comercialism run amok...)
『Hmmm, if memory serves, the whole point of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Christ. The gifts and other accesories (Including Santa props) are somewhat secondary. So how in god's name can there be a CHRISTmas going on in the stone age if Christ hasnt been born? True this is a cartoon where stone age men shave with clams so realism isnt really a priority here. But this tape is just another example of the type of comercialism that has burried the real meaning of the holyday under mall propaganda. Do yourself a favor and put the money you were going to use for buying this tape into a charity. Do something nice or somebody else. That's what the holyday is, sharing the joy of the religious event, not the invented secular cuasi-pagan one.』

『More excrutiating than the russian roulette scene in deer hunter. Worst movie ever. Only a communist sympathiser would like this movie, so if you hear someone singing its praises, please consult authorities. It is the communists not so subtel attempt to destroy what they see as a bastion of capitalism, Christmas. (The best 'Pirates' version I've ever seen, for television)
『There was much controversy over the release and re-broadcast of this version, with Ronstadt playing Mabel. While the rest of the title cast (Kline, Rose, Smith, etc.) were marvelous, Ronstadt was selected to play Mabel for her "star" status at the time - and the raw outlook, that she was a country-western singer, NOT an opera or classical voice. Apparently she had worked for many weeks prior to shooting Pirates in order to enhance and "ready" the soprano she needed to portray Mabel. Not an easy feat, as she is no classical soprano. Through most of the chorus songs, and her solos, her lyrics are quite muddy, and you will notice during the round of 'Poor Wandering One' her inevitable country 'twang' seeps in, but is ALMOST rescued by a genuine sweeping soprano lyric.

However, her redemption at the ending of 'Poor' really gives you chills, a well done orchestrated coloratura she nails - as I've never heard ANY prior or latter version out do what she was required to accomplish as Mabel. Those incredible 'licks' she "teases" with the piccolo, and up to the encore high F at the very end.

As everyone else has previously commented, Kevin Kline was masterful as the bumbling Pirate King. Kline agreed to fulfill this role in his essence of once again returning to the Broadway stage in effort to create something broad, comical, and physical in humor. And that feat he certainly accomplished. Especially the musical scene in 'It Really Doesn't Matter'. His facial expressions, and running out of breath as he "faints"....priceless. Lansbury was equally wonderful as the long-repressed Ruth, secretly in love with her 'ward' Frederick....alas.

The huge disappointment with the CD release....it is not Lansbury's voice you hear as Ruth, but actress Estelle Parsons, whom Lansbury replaced for the film version. Her lyrics are even muddier than Ronstadt's and not nearly as delightful as Lansbury's voice.

But overall, I highly recommend this movie for ANYONE. Ronstadt and Smith have undeniable romantic chemistry together, and George Rose and Kevin Kline play marvelously off each other during the Major General song.』

(Pirates VHS)
『No problems with delivery, arrived quickly and in good time. Sender was very helpful and willing to assist with or correct any possible problems. I'd buy from them again anytime.』

(Hurrah for the Pirate King!)
『I love Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, and most of all, The Pirates of Penzance. This rendition captures all the comic enthusiasm G&S could ask for. The sets keep the stage performance feel, with a wider scope. Of course the main glory of this production is the fabulous performances, especially that of Kevin Kline, who is the perfect Pirate King. Linda Ronstadt proves her abilities in the difficult singing role of Mabel, and Rex Smith is a charming young Frederick, balancing his innocence and sense of duty. George Rose is a marvelous major general and Angela Lansbury does quite well as the deceptive nurse-turned-pirate Ruth. All in all, it is completely entertaining. The singing is wonderful, the scenes are lovely, and the little liberties taken with the plot (such as the storming of the theatre playing another G&S production) only add the the fun. This VHS version is far superior in sound and filming to the stage film available on DVD. It should definitely be put on DVD.』

(BE WARNED: NOT THE DVD ADVERTISED)
『Potential buyers should be warned that this is not a DVD version of the made-for-film production that includes Angela Landsbury in the cast, though her name certainly appears on the box cover in the advertisement, the product description, and the reviews. It appears that none of the reviewers actually own a DVD copy of this film, and are therefore commenting on a different production than the one being sold (which I already own). As I remember, the production being sold here has sound issues, and the volume fades in and out. Nonetheless, "Hyacinth Bucket" gives a very strong performance as the foolish nursery maid, and the production has other appealing features to collectors.』

(Avoid confusion with this title)
『There is a lot of confusion in the reviews of this movie, and the reason is simple, there are 2 films with he same name and almost the same cast. There is a version which is the film of the broadway stage show, which I have not seen, but lots of people who have say its pretty horrible (the film and sound, not the actual broadway production which most people think was excellent). Then there is another version which is made on a soundstage with simple sets. The later version is, in my opinion, excellent. The singing is great, the acting is great (in this style), and the cast looks like there are having a great time. So there you have it, if you see a bad review, it is probably the film of the stageshow, and if you see a great review, it is probably a review of the soundstage version.

Now for the down side, the good verion (which you can pick by the fact it has Angela Lansbury playing Ruth), is at the time of writing this review not availbale on DVD. So, if you get a DVD it will be the crappy version. You can get the good version on VHS.』

『When New York theatrical producer Joseph Papp decided to bring Gilbert and Sullivan to Broadway, he added typically broad, bold strokes to make their singular operetta format meaningful to 1980s audiences. InThe Pirates of Penzance, Papp had a story that offered a mixture of potential action and comedy that was less arcane than other G&S chestnuts, which Papp's production underlined by playing up its antic conflict between its hapless, titular pirates and the citizens of Penzance, the Cornish town targeted for plunder. Adding to the new production's mainstream allure was the theatrical debut for erstwhile country-rock siren Linda Ronstadt as the virginal Mabel, along with a plum role for another putative pop heartthrob, Rex Smith, as the "good" pirate, Frederic.

Naturally, such amendments piqued complaints from self-appointed G&S purists, for whom the duo's original satirical edge and theatrical innovation were obscured (if not ossified) by their canon's patina of respectability. Happily, for the rest of us, Papp's cheeky revisions are generally on the money, and this 1983 film version preserves them with unusual fidelity. Instead of opening up his production with location shooting or intricate editing, director Wilford Leach savors the artifice of its stage sets and hokey, colorful costuming, celebrating the genre's proud theatrical legacy.

The cast, meanwhile, tears into the farcical plot with elan, led by Kevin Kline as the Pirate King, a role perfect for his skill at lampooning masculine bravado (not to mention his underexposed, generally strong singing). Broadway veteran George Rose proves the very model of the modern Major-General Stanley, and Angela Lansbury, added to the film's cast for marquee value, again shows her mettle as the ditzy maid, Ruth. Ronstadt justifies Papp's gamble, having trained rigorously to meet Sullivan's acrobatic melodies--indeed, this project marked her commitment to grow beyond rock, confirmed with her subsequent exploration of classic pop with arranger-conductor Nelson Riddle.--Sam Sutherland

(Disney's Sing-A-Long Songs - Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah)
『I don't know what all the fuss is about! I am not a politically correct person. I am a grandmother trying to show my grandsons what wonderful songs came out of such great movies produced by Disney. All I know is that Disney should re-release such awsome movies so that future generations can admire and enjoy what they're parents grew up with. I have most, if not all, of the sing along songs made by Disney on VHS and I would like them on DVD. My children are successful in their careers and by no means did these movies do them any harm. It taught them to enjoy beautiful music. I agree with Mr. Willert, there are alot of unappropriate movies out there that should be banned but it seems that the most innocent, patriotic, no violence, no sex and certainly spiritual movies are the ones that are criticize the most. And us as consumers, a majority, don't have a leg to stand on because of all the politically correct people, a minority, who have the power to decide what we should hear, see and believe. So please go ahead and re-release all the sing along songs on DVD and believe me you'll have a alot of devoted customers for life (including me).』

(Song of the South: a GREAT Disney film)
『I'm heartened by all the reviews I read that are practically begging Disney TO BRING BACK Song of the South. It is one of the
cheeriest, most uplifting old films we have, despite the hyper-myopic views of a tiny minority that sees hate in everything. I know of what I speak: for forty years I've been a college history professor, and for most of that time I've had to put up with the hate-seeking, eternally angry, political correctness bunch. They villify Song of the South, and in their left-wing neo-McCarthyism they seek to destroy anyone who likes it (or any other wholesome film). I am especially grieved that the people at Disney have surrendered to these Neanderthals. Uncle Walt would never have permitted it.』

(Song of the South-Zip A Dee Doo Dah)
『All I heard on the reviews was stuff about Song of the South being banned. Nobody got down to the songs. Those are supposed to be confiscated (the reviews about Song of the South being banned). Here are the songs:

"The Mickey Mouse Club March"-The Mickey Mouse Club
"Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah"-Song of the South
"Following the Leader"-Peter Pan
"It's a Small World"-Disneyland
"The Unbirthday Song"-Alice in Wonderland
"Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo"-Cinderella
"Casey Junior"-Dumbo
"The Ballad of Davy Crockett"-Davy Crockett movies
"Give a Little Whistle"-Pinocchio
"Whistle While You Work"-Snow White

Don't blame me, I've seen the video, I just think such words shouldn't be there. Parents, just buy this if you think you like it. Nothing good will come of it anyway.』

(Show respect?)
『If it is required that a movie show respect to people of any color then why not also ban every movie that has ever shown white people in a bad light?
This movie shows how it really was at one time in our history, it does not say it was right or wrong. If we hide all of these examples of how things shouldn't have been will African Americans quit bitching about how things were - at some time in the future no white will know what you're talking about if you hide it well enough.』

(Singing Song Of The South Sensation)
『This may be volume two of the Disney Sing Alongs collection in the US, but it was the first one released in the UK where I bought it. It was a Christmas present and I was so excited to get it. In truth, I wanted it to see the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo sequence from Cinderella and wasn't bothered about Zip A Dee Doo Dah, but I enjoyed that too. This video also featured rarer songs such as Mickey Mouse Club March, It's A Small World and The Ballad Of Davy Crockett. Other songs included were Following The Leader from Peter Pan (released several times on different sing along songs videos), The Unbirthday Song from Alice In Wonderland, Casy Junior from Dumbo and Whistle While You Work from Snow White.

The real highlight though was Zip A Dee Doo Dah and the unadvertised Song Of The South from SONG OF THE SOUTH. And here's my sidenote: Now in America, there seems to be some issues regarding the release of the film Song Of The South because of its slavery connotations. In fact, the movie is set after the slavery period. However Michael Eisner as head of The Walt Disney Company has chosen not to release it in case it could fuel racial hatred. Obviously for fans of Song Of The South, that seems ridiculous, but what fans don't know is that Disney have received protests from some celebrities who say they will seriously make some noise if Song Of The South is ever released. By the way, Song Of The South was available on video in the UK years ago- no riots! (And if you really wanna get a copy pirate versions are available in New York) There is a light at the end of the tunnel though- there is a rumor that Disney will release Song Of The South in 2005 or 2006- fingers crossed. They should just get Leonard Maltin to do an introduction about Song Of The South in its historical context. You know what, I think everyone should get over themselves. Song Of The South is a family film after all.

Back to the review. This is one of the more special sing along videos since it really set the bar. Just ignore the Song Of The South argument. You and your kinds will really enjoy this early Disney Sing Along Songs video sensation.』

『Purchasers of Disney's "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah," the second volume of the company'sSing Along Songsseries, may discover that not everything is as "satisfactchull" as it could be with this tape--it all depends on why you're buying it. If you've sought out the video because of a sentimental devotion to the musical the title tune is taken from,Song of the South, then you're bound to be disappointed. Disney's undying efforts to make nice have spilled into this segment (the first of a nine-song package), and all is sanitized so that the original film's disconcerting depictions of then-de rigueur racial inequality cause no modern-day discomfort. But that's not to say the scene of Uncle Remis strolling a hummingbird- and butterfly-lined road and singing his song isn't a sure-fire mood-lifter, or that it doesn't succeed in its mission, which is to jog joyful childhood memories. And it is the only way to see any of the film on video; Disney has no plans to ever release the controversial film. In fact each of this collection's numbers (all ingrained collectively on a generation now raising its own kids), aims to knead adult viewers' nostalgic sides (presumably part of a strategy to perpetuate Disney die-hards). Especially effective areCinderella's"Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo," the Davy Crockett series' "The Ballad of Davy Crockett," andSnow White's"Whistle While You Work."--Tammy La Gorce

(Good while it lasted)
『Pro: Cannot burn you. Not cool by touch but not super hot either. Heat the water pretty fast.
Con: Lid design is not well thought off. Doesn't open up. Instead front part goes up while back goes down. So it's not convenient to put the water in. Also gave up after 2 years of light use. I'm not buying it anymore.』

(I love it.)
『This electric kettle has been great. It's all stainless steel on the inside, except up where the lid is, and the hot water doesn't touch those parts. It was important to me that I not get plastic, rubbery parts in my boiling water, and all of the other stainless steel kettles I looked at had something questionable touching my water. Not so on this one.

It doesn't take up much space on my counter top. It doesn't heat up my house. It doesn't leak unless I overfill it. The only issue I have with this kettle is that the fill line is on the wrong side, where you can't really see it unless you detach the lid (you don't want to do that). I can sort of see the line, but not easily. And, you can really only fill it about 1/2 way. I don't mind though. It's a small price to pay for everything else. I would recommend it.』

(Plastic still touches the hot water!)
『Does noboy notice that the underside of the lid is all plastic? Also, that black shadowing in the photo near the "spout" on top of the lid is not shadowing or light reflection. It's plastic! Worse yet, there is no way to pour out your water without it flowing along all that plastic at the spout unless you completly remove the lid before heating the water! I'm sending this back and asking for my shipping fees credited to me as well. This is a misrepresented product!』

(Metal liner, cool outside, good balance - best combo of features)
『Most importantly, my wife loves it, and she is a gadget-phobe. I just bought a second one for my mother.

We have been using it for two months now, and no problems so far.

After my usual exhaustive search, I selected this tea kettle because it had the best combination of features.

PRO:
- All metal: stainless steel liner and no exposed heating element to accumulate scale buildup. The lid is plastic but it doesn't come into contact with the water. I really didn't like the idea of boiling water in contact with plastic.
- Cool touch exterior for safety and also it insulates the water inside, keeping it hotter after the kettle shuts off upon boiling.
- Nice balance for the handle - I find the electric kettles with the handle on the top to be much more difficult to lift and pour. This one has the handle on the side - much better.
- Wide mouth top is easy to fill and clean. The lid pivots in the middle - too hard to describe so I added a clip from the user manual. Easy to remove lid to clean, though as others mentioned it does get in the way a bit when you're filling the kettle.
- As with many other kettles, it is cordless -- the kettle lifts easily off and on from the corded base, and you can hide any extra power cord inside the base.

CON (none of these matter to me or my wife):
- No water level indication, but then if there were you would probably have connections that could leak over time and potentially plastic parts in contact with water.
- Water temperature is not adjustable.』

(funky lid, no water level indicator, does heat water as advertised)
『Well this is a good pot with it's own unique characteristics. First is the lid. It rotates from a closed position to a 90 degree angle. Doesn't sound bad, but in practice the lid is still in the way when you try to fill the pot. Keep the lid clean because the water you add is going to come in contact with that surface.

Second, for a hot water pot, it is unusual to NOT have a water level indicator. Even if you never check it, you have no option here. That means opening the lid to check how much water is in it.

It does boil water rather quickly and that is it's main function at my house. I have noticed that it doesn't hold as much water as other kettles we've had. So it gets refilled often. Then that lid comes into play again.』

『Hamilton Beach Brushed Stainless Finish Cool touch tea kettle - has 8 cup capacity, and cordless base for easy pouring&safe operation. Concealed heating element&thumb activated lid for easy filling. Automatic shut off when water boils. On - Off light&mineral deposit filter .』

(These guys ROCK!!!)
『Nobody playing today rocks as hard as The Black Keys! I stood in a jam packed crowd earlier this year to see these guys... and it was great. They generally mix in a couple of lower key songs... but mostly they rip and roar.

Nothing beats the real thing. If The Black Keys come to your town... go see them. But, this DVD can hold you over until then.

If you have the first live DVD... the presentation is about the same... but the song list is different, of course.』

(Worth Every Penny, and More!)
『If you're a fan of The Black Keys in any capacity, you must own this DVD. It captures their stage presence perfectly and showcases what's become one of the best up-and-coming bands around. Lead singer and guitarist Dan Auerbach's gritty voice and effortless riffs combine in perfect unison with drummer Patrick Carney's impeccable timing and rabid pace.
This is a must-buy for any serious rock or blues fan - and in my opinion for any serious music fan. This band will prove to be an important evolution in the world of music and every opportunity should be taken to see them whenever, wherever possible.』

『The Black Keys' new concert DVD reflects the no-frills genius of the drums-and-guitar duo's studio sound: It's a refreshingly straightforward, beautifully rendered, high-definition video document of their April 4, 2008 sold-out gig at Portland, Oregon's Crystal Ballroom, featuring seventeen songs culled from all five of the pair's albums.』

『For those who can't get enough of those Barney songs, here's a made-for-video show packed full of song and dance. The story line is oh-so thin as Barney and his friends sing 27 songs in only 56 minutes, so Barney is usually singing or introducing a new song. For anyone who has been watching the decade that Barney has been on the airwaves, most of the songs are Barney standards: "Mr. Sun," "The Airplane Song," "Baby Bop Hop," and "I Love You." They are mixed in with all-time favorites "Itsy Bitsy Spider," "A Camping We Will Go," and the like. Many of Barney's original kid friends return looking much older and wiser. No big landmark production here, just a "greatest hits" of Barney tunes that should have fans singing and dancing around the tube for nearly an hour.--Doug Thomas

(Paul is the king!!!!)
『touching performance, the band is great, excellent repertoir, anythong you need in a godd dvd!』

(The Next best thing to seeing him in person)
『I have to admit Paul has never been my favorite Beatle. Paul however is the last of the Beatles who wrote music.
I do enjoy many songs Paul has written with the Beatles, with Wings and as a solo performer.
What you have here is history. Paul McCartney and John Lennon are the two greatest composers/writers of the last century.
This is a chance to see one of the Masters displaying why he is so popular and fameous.
Paul opens the show with Hello, Goodbye and it just goes uphill from there.
Another thing that was cool was how he ended a song with Foxy Lady, the old Jimi Hendrix tune.
He does Beatles classics like Got to get you into my life and Penny Lane, among others.
To me the hightlight of the show was when he did Jenny Wren and English Tea for the current album.
He also closes the show with Yesterday and other big hits from the Beatles days.
This is not as good as seeing him in person, but it is the next best thing.』

(The space to fill)
『Paul's peformance during this tour is still strong. The tracklist of the concerts are mainly beatles songs and they sound pretty good.
The edition of this DVD is not what real fans wait: not a complete concert set (again). I wonder why Macca keeps on doing this; doesn't he know there are special features sections in order to insert all that stuff he likes to add?
The band is Ok, though I particulary don't like the 'show-man' drumer at all.

(Paul sounds pretty good)
『The DVD is good, but I only want to see and hear the Beatles stuff. The rest is filler.』

(Good to Mediocre Production)
『On the whole I like this DVD of McCartney's tour. HOWEVER, I have to wonder what the %$#@ was going through the mind of the film editor (and eventually Sir Paul himself) when the brilliantly stupid decision was made to use the LET IT BE track as BACKGROUND MUSIC for various insipid comments about the "power of music". How could anyone--especially Paul--even consider that his fans would have loved to listen to LET IT BE as barely auduble background music for trite and ultimately uselss comments! Furthermore, how could anyone on the production team have agreed to even list LET IT BE as one of the cuts on this DVD, when it is NOT included in its entire UNADULTERATED form?! Beyond this obvious GIGANTIC GAFFE, there is also the fact that at least 4 songs that probably no one has ever heard were included in the show! What about NORWEGIAN WOOD, VENUS&MARS, LET 'EM IN, BLACKBIRD, UNCLE ALBERT....and scores of more popular songs than some of the ones on this DVD.』
『The eternal fascination with all things Beatle pretty much guarantees an audience for any offering from the group and its respective members, and that will likely be the case withPaul McCartney: The Space Within US, a documentary recorded during his 2005 world tour (and broadcast in truncated form by A&E). Not that it's by any means bad. McCartney and his crack four-piece band are seen performing a variety of Fabs faves, from the delightful trifle that is "I'll Follow the Sun" to the genuine masterpiece that is "For No One" (the latter is a solo job, as are "I Will," "Yesterday," and others); as Apple computer poo-bah Steve Jobs, one of the many talking heads on hand to sing Macca's praises, points out, just hearing these classics played and sung by the guy who wrote (or co-wrote) 'em is a treat, and the great sound and high-definition video certainly don't hurt. On the minus side, the camera spends a lot of time in the audience, capturing their rapturous and often quite touching responses to the music. There are also bits focusing on a Beatles-obsessed family from Columbus, Ohio, all three generations of which are excited, to put it mildly, when Sir Paul pays them a brief visit before going onstage, and on two astronauts on board the International Space Station, for whom McCartney plays "English Tea" (from his 2005 CDChaos and Creation in the Backyard) through a live feed from his Anaheim, California gig. These tangents may be distracting to fans who just want to watch McCartney and company at work, but considering that this was dubbed "the Us Tour," they should hardly come as a surprise. Same goes for the disparate line-up of celebs and others, ranging from Bill Clinton and various academic types to Tony Bennett and Eddie Vedder, whose comments punctuate (and occasionally interrupt) the music. Bottom line: there are better McCartney concert videos (likeLive in Red Square), but this is a Beatle we're talking about here. For many, that will be more than enough.--Sam Graham
