IPhone 3G used's review (Pointedly Pro) 『As a child, I grew up with this movie. I still have an old VHS copy, although the first viewing I can remember came on Public Broadcasting. Harry Nilsson's "The Point" frequently takes me back to my younger years, sitting with my mother on the couch and loving the tale of Oblio and Arrow seeking true meaning in a world in which they have become outcasts.
While the animation pales into comparison to today's slick digital tomes, I almost prefer the point because you can see the artistic vision coming through in all of its watercolor beauty. Some of the images also are a bit dated, but the impact is not lost.
For anyone who claims to be a fan of Nilsson's, this is a must have. For anyone who enjoys a simple, modern fairy tale, this is a good buy.』
(I have a Point) 『There are many fine reviews of this feature cartoon so I won't add a repeat of all the others to the list. However I would like to make a few points of my own. How many of us noticed the anarchist with a bomb, the artists smoking pot, Orichs skull from Hamlet I believe, or the very Beatlesque walrus? They all reinforce the main theme of the whole film which everyone has interpreted for themselves.I do believe this was the authors intent, not just to portray an individual in a "do as your told" society but to help support the individual in our society, when he or she stands up and says that they arn't going to play the game any more. I like the first version with Dustin Hoffman the best and I am one of the lucky few to have recorded it off of tv many years ago. I have just shown it to a bunch of middle school kids and was facinated by which parts of the video seemed to interest them the most. The Count's kid, the whole triangle toss incident with picking players, and all the parts with arrow and Oblio interacting were their favorites. I thought the kids who were the thoughtful independent types sat in front and paid the most attention to the story. This behavior seemed to reinforce my opinion and the video seemed to give these kids spiritual support : as the film went on they seemed to sit up taller in their chairs. This is a wonderful video for the family if you have one to show it to and, if not, watch it with a friend, or a whole class as I did.』
(Does There Need to Be a Point?) 『This is a great TV Special (when TV specials were highly anticipated and very very special!) created by Harry Nielsen with Ringo Starr. A boy where everyone has a point is born without a point. After waiting a few years, he still doesn't seem to have a point so is sent out into the world alone with his dog because he doesn't fit in. The boy tries to find a point including the vanishing point but to no avail. What's the point? :)』
(The Point) 『"The Point" narrated by Ringo Starr has been a favorite of mine since I watched it with my Gandson in the 80's. It has a wonderful way of delivering a message of good will and tolerance for any age.』
(Believeable1) 『An excellent, and genuine story for both young and old. Very colorful and easy to follow from start to finish.』 『Harry Nilsson wrote the entirely hummable songs (including the hit, "Me and My Arrow") for this charming, 1971 animation feature about a boy with a round head who is banished from the land of pointy-headed people. An allegory about nonconformism presented in a delightful way, this is a treat for everybody. I was right!! I didn't expect the DVD to be able to match the electric passion felt at a live concert but I was pleasantly surprised, and dare I say "electrified!" by the masterful way in which this show conveys all the magic of seeing Chayanne in person. The only thing missing is the smell!
This concert celebrates Chayanne's 30-year career as an entertainer and he delivers each song with the skills and passion of an experienced performer who loves what he does. Chayanne enthusiastically uses his experience to connect with his audience in a way that is almost mystical. He is playful, sincere, achingly sweet and divinely wicked. His music and dancing will draw you in but it is his charisma that will hold you captive for a two full hours that goes by in blink.
This DVD will leave the seasoned fans newly enchanted while seducing new fans into a wonderfully energizing Latin experience; everyone gets off this ride and heads to the back of the line so they can go again and again and again! 』

(AN UNIQUE LIFETIME EXPERIENCE-The First Chayanne Live Show Recorded) 『This guy is amazing. After selling 20million records came with an impressive change, the album SINCERO-2003, USA Grammy 2004 award nominee, plenty of beautiful ballads, crazy rythms an a magical superb catchy cumbia turns into steady-rock written by one of the best spaniard young songwriters of nowadays, Juan Mogica(the guy, now living between NYC, Madrid and Miami-I've searching his live-is a sort of crazy Nomad guy that has been written many of the greatest pop songs of the lately 10 years for the best latin artists and himself), and the album had an state-of-the-art production by Luis Ochoa, Rene Toledo(The producer of the best Julio Iglesias albums)and a couple of guys of his 90's era. After that amazing album that have sold more than one million records, Chayanne release a couple of personal and interesting as himself albums with great success. But now, this is a real musical revolution, maybe more for the latin audience, but I think that an artist that wait 30 years to release his first Live Cd-DVD looking for the perfection or is God or is too close.Only Peter Gabriel has that kind of artistic contemplation.
Chayanne is a very smart guy.And it's an unique artist. One between a million.I have bought and enjoy a lot of live albums and Dvd shows, but this is an unique one in a lifetime experience.

IPhone 3G used's review (Classic story done to perfection) 『Zefferelli has brought this classic love story by Shakespeare to the screen. He makes it so simple, the language, and highlights this with an exeptional cast. With Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting, both young newcomers at the time, in the leads, you become entranced with their love story and conflicts. This is Shakepseare at it's best. Although Henry V, Othello and Hamlet were all good films, this one is breathtaking to watch. Zefferelli followed this with Burton and Taylor in The Taming of the Shrew, also excellent. Hats off to Zefferelli.』
(Romeo&Juliet 1968) 『It was a very nice product and it is such a beautiful movie....the company sent the product fast and secure....thanx...Rosalyn』
(Romeo&Juliet) 『Just as I remembered this movie as a youth - awesome story - movie is true to the original Shakespere writing. Great teaching tool. Love it!』
(Romeo and Juliet) 『The acting in this film is wonderful. The drama lines are delivered as one would expect, with class. The action scenes are played out well, though there was no as much blood as a sword thrust to the heart might actually cause, but this is family television. It is a very good introduction to Shakespeare, and the cast all realizes they are first and foremost Shakespearian actors.
This version far surpasses any other production of Romeo and Juliet. The veiwer gets the sense of the frustration, the romance, the hopes that hings might change, and the let down of realizing the tragedy involved in this in inevitable. Love conquers hearts but it can't change other people's attitudes towards something as personal as a blood feud. This movie hits home the depth of Shakespeare's stage play and is one of the better movies of the 1960s.』
(Romeo&Juliet) 『Great classic and still good today. Just wish they could have improved the sound when they put it on DVD. Still worth it though. Thanks for the good price.』 『Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 adaptation of Shakespeare'sRomeo and Julietwas unique in its day for casting kids in the play's pivotal roles of, well, kids. Seventeen-year-old Leonard Whiting and 15-year-old Olivia Hussey play the titular pair, the Bard's star-crossed lovers who defy a running feud between their families in order to be together in love. Typically played on stage and in previous film productions by adult actors, the innocent look and rawness of Whiting and Hussey resonated at the time with a burgeoning youth movement from San Francisco to Prague. The tragic romance at the center of the story also clicked with anti-authority sentiments, but even without that, Zeffirelli scores points by validating the ideals and passions of strong-willed adolescents. Less successful are scenes requiring the actors to have a fuller grasp of the text, though the best thing going remains the unambiguous duel between Romeo and Tybalt (Michael York). Lavishly photographed by Pasquale de Santis on location in Italy, thisRomeo and Julietbrought a different tone and dimension to a story that had become tiresome in reverential presentations.--Tom Keogh』
IPhone 3G used's review (An element of transformation) 『I remember watching this movie with my little brother, or should I say, when my brother was little.
Overall, this is a fun and enjoyable movie. I love the chemistry and interaction between the characters of Phoebe Cates(Elizabeth) and Rik Mayall(Drop Dead Fred).
However, the really enjoyable part of the movie for me came when Elizabeth was able to travel to her past and free her little girl version. Thus she was able to transform a part of her that was stuck for a long time.
This movie is definately a little gem. 』
(Doesn't live up to the blurb - is better) 『Drop Dead Fred is one of those movies you pick up on the off chance it might actually be good. It was cheap, and I've got a little bit of a thing for Rik Mayall, he's funny, and he knows how to make you laugh. I only really knew Phoebe Cates from Gremlins, but thought why not?
What I didn't think I would be feeling, upon finishing watching Drop Dead Fred, was sad. It was actually a really sad film, and I didn't expect to feel sad after it finished. Yes, it has it's funny moments, but oh my god, it was sad.
The story goes that when Lizzie finds herself separated from her cheating rat of a husband (cut it off, that will teach him), and living back home with her ever so slightly controlling mother, she brings back her imaginary childhood friend - Fred, a zany guy, who does everything he can to make her look and sound strange to her friends and her mother. Leads for some very funny moments, but also some very sad moments, when Lizzie realises that she wants to get back with her husband (idiot) and tries to stop Fred being there so much.
I think I perhaps would have felt differently about it if I had seen it many years ago, when it originally was out. I think it can be seen differently through the eyes of an adult and a child. A child will see the zany goofiness, the adult will see and understand the controlling atmosphere that Lizzie had to put up with, and why she brings back Fred.
The finale was the saddest part for me, with it being almost set up for a sequel, something tells me though it wouldn't have worked, and the absolute sad although predictable, ending. Yes, you can see it coming. You know exactly what's going to happen, in fact it's regularly used for this kind of film.
Drop Dead Fred is something that needs to be picked up for cheap, and watched immediately. Although Rik is more toned down than he is for example in Bottom, he's still hilarious, with the zany faces, and funny clothes. He makes this film, cos without him, it just would not have worked.』
(Rik Mayal at his best!) 『Any movie that has a charachter who catches cornflakes-disease on the way to Venus is a blast. Zany and original.』
(Unsatisfied) 『Cancelled order due to lost in shipping and no way of tracking it. Was not able to send replacement, was out of stock.』
(She Love's It) 『Just as funny as i remember great find here as it was not easy anywhere else!』 『This not-quite-black comedy was probably a laugh riot on paper. The translation almost works, but the execution is flawed. Phoebe Cates is a recently separated young woman who suddenly begins to see her supposedly imagined childhood friend (Drop Dead Fred) after moving back into her mother's home. Is he a manifestation of her secret desires to ditch the boorish spouse? Or was he real all along? Rik Mayall is a limber, carrot-topped Brit with the lamentable assignment of trying to make us laugh with vulgar, sophomoric trickery. He is supposedly the repository of Cates's fastidious repression but is more annoying than cathartic.--Rochelle O'Gorman』
IPhone 3G used's review (Peter Pan (Mary Martin)) 『I was five years old when this program was shown live on television in 1955 and I can remember watching it. From then on I have loved all things "Peter Pan." I was despairing of ever finding this movie, so I was so grateful to discover it for sale on Amazon.com. I now nostalgically watch this movie with my six grandchildren and we all delight in "clapping to save Tinkerbell"! A wonderful, wonderful film!!!』
(Classic TV needs to be back in print.) 『Like many from my generation...and my parents' generation, I grew up with this classic TV production of Peter Pan. The cheap sets, shoddy special effects, and over-the-top acting didn't matter when I was seven, and they don't matter now. The production is still fun to watch, with its classic songs and Mary Martin's legendary performance.
However, it's been several years since this movie's been in print in any format. I'm fortunate enough to own a bootleg DVD copied from a VHS tape, but whoever owns the rights to the video and DVD releases of Peter Pan needs to bring it back into print, digitally restored and remastered for optimal video and audio quality, with a few nice bonus materials. Not everyone knows someone who can get them a bootleg, nor does everyone have $100+ for a used copy, or the equiupment and knowledge required to make their own homemade DVD from their video copies. This classic NEEDS to be available to the masses. Maybe even in a 2-Disc set with the kinescope version of the 1957 broadcast on disc 2, making this a true Special Edition.
If you can track down a copy for cheap or get your hands on a bootleg, go for it. This is classic TV, and a great production. Please, bring this back in print!』
(Watch out for bootlegs!) 『The original release of this DVD from goodtimes is in a cardboard snapcase. Many sellers sell copies in a plastic case - this is a cheap copy and is worthless. Make sure it's in a cardboard snap-case before paying!!!』
(Memories I passed to my kids and now grandchildren...) 『I saw this version on TV when I was 7 years old and every year after that! My children (ages 32-17) all know this version and know ALL of the songs by heart (as well most of the dialoge)! We watch it once a year as a family and now with our grandkids, sing and laugh the whole way through!! It's the best! I hope they digitally master this for the generations to come! It may seem corney to some, but it's a classic! We love it!』
(Mary Martin's Peter Pan) 『Musical comedy star Mary Martin may have not been as well-known to many of us if she hadn't appeared in a television version of the famous "Peter Pan" story on March 7, 1955. After achieving great success on Broadway, and limited success in Hollywood (in generally disappointing film roles), Martin joined Australian actor Cyril Ritchard in an outstanding adaptation of Sir James Barrie's classic tale of boys who would not grow up.
All of the elements of the story were incorporated in the NBC compatible color telecast, including the use of a woman in playing Peter Pan. Mary Martin was slender and cut her hair short; with the use of make-up, she was able to achieve the effect of portraying an adolescent boy who refuses to grow up. Peter lives on an uncharted island with other boys who don't want to become adults.
One of the amazing things about Peter, however, is that he has the ability to fly. (The effect was done through the use of special wires.) During one of his nighttime flights, he spies on a family in London and, eventually, persuades the children to come to his island. This includes the daughter, Wendy, who becomes a virtual mother to the boys. Soon, however, they are battling pirates and Indians. Peter Pan has considerable imagination in dealing with the threats, but there are numerous dangers, particularly from the pirates led by the notorious Captain Hook (wonderfully portrayed by Cyril Ritchard, who also plays the father of the English children).
Interwoven into this delightful adaptation are some memorable songs that became extremely popular. The original live telecast was so popular that NBC telecast it again in compatible color on January 9, 1956. Unfortunately, videotape was still being perfected and neither telecasts were taped. Eventually, as videotape became more practical, NBC was able to reunite Martin and Ritchard for a color taping of the musical in 1960.
Typical of early color telecasts, the color range is more limited than today's color, but it is still quite impressive and one can enjoy the fine performances by Martin and Ritchard and the top-notch supporting cast. Yes, the sets are somewhat limited compared to today's television productions, but that is not a big factor in enjoying this production.
It is wonderful that NBC was able to preserve one of the more enjoyable television productions from the "golden age" of early television. This is a story, too, that can appeal to both children and adults and is a reminder of a more innocent time when spectacular effects, sex, and violence were not as important (or even allowed).』 『An entire generation of baby boomers grew up with this stagy but magical production, which originated on Broadway but was broadcast several times on TV. They may not know Mary Martin or Cyril Ritchard--two staples of the commercial theater in their time--for any other reason, but they'll always be able to name them as Peter Pan and Captain Hook. The story of the boy who wouldn't grow up includes a classic score with songs that can bring a tear of nostalgia to the eye of the middle-aged--like "I Won't Grow Up," "I've Gotta Crow," and "Neverland." The flying, the goofy comedy--it's all there in this video version of the classic TV broadcast. It's hard to know what sophisticated modern youngsters would make of it, but their parents will gladly sit and watch with them.--Marshall Fine』
