Up until I bought this thing for her my cat's mouse-go-round was her favorite toy. She loves the kong but the squeaker broke within a 1/2 an hour. Once she gave up on trying to make it squeak she loved it. She is a bit of a chewer and has gone through most of my cat nip toys. The kong has so far held up to her chewing. She loves for me to slap he with a few times and then throw it.』

IPhone 3G used's review (Super Effects at a Great Price) 『With a major Cub Scout campfire coming up, I started researching how to produce colored flame. The standard searches came up with a lot of references to the subject, and in no time I had a list of the chemicals I'd need to produce the various colors. Then I started searching for the chemicals I'd need. Most were available for purchase, but were not cheap. There was really no hassle to ordering a kilogram or more of some of these chemicals, but I was amazed--and put off--by what I thought were exorbitat prices.
Then I typed "color flame" into Amazon.com and up came this stuff. Not having any experience with colored flame before, I purchased this product, along with Rainbow Flame Crystals for the Cub Scout campfire. Some modest prior experimentation in the charcoal grill at home showed that the stuff works just as advertised.
At the campfire this product produced some very nice blue, green and every so often purple flame, which both the kids and the adults found very enjoyable (hint: don't tell them that you're using this stuff, especially the kids). The effects lingered for some time, about five minutes per heaping tablespoon of product. I found that a larger amount--maybe a half cup--was the best way to apply the product to a large fire.
Also, it's better to sprinkle the product throughout the fire, rather than pour it in so it piles in a single location. Dispersing the crystals troughout the fire will create an instant and thorough color flame effect, while pouring will get you an instant effect in a single location, with a pile of crystals that becomes somewhat self-insulating. Once a log falls or you stir the coals, and that pile of crystals is disturbed you will get another burst of color, which actually is a pretty cool effect, giving you shots of color hours after you've applied the crystals.
Once that big campfire was going, I simply tossed an entire package or two directly into the fire. Using the pour or sprinkle settings on top of the package (just like your home spice containers) isn't practical for a large fire, and as described above, the effect can be quite good.
The best thing about this product is its price. Given what I'd discovered about ordering colored flame-producing chemicals, the price for this item, already prepared and ready to go, is simply outstanding. In fact, the low price had me buying more than one.
Bottom line: This is a simple product which delivers exactly as promised. I've got more scout camping and campfires coming up this summer, and this product will figure prominently in those activities.』

(wonderful but presents an idealized world) 『This really is a wonderful DVD that hits all the basics of preschool education such as discriminating between colors and shapes, learning to count, recognizing letters, etc. My one criticism is that it presents a world so idealized that few children will be able to relate to it. No one except Baby Bop for a few seconds has a problem, no one stops smiling. It's relentlessly cheerful to the point that you wonder if the producers have ever read any child psychology that discusses that huge and immense fears and aggressive urges that children have to learn to master. Fairy tales like Grimms have captivated children for centuries--why do the producers of this Barney video think that they must extract all negativity to only present the sunny side of life. I'm not saying I want a gloomy Barney but this video is so over the top happy that it is essentially a fantasy world not having much connection to any school its child viewers will ever encounter. Nevertheless, I give it 5 stars because despite this flaw, it has a lot going for it, and when viewed in the context of other DVDs like Mr. Rogers (who definitely deals with anger, fear, etc.) it all balances out. Nevertheless, if you're going to go with Barney, I would recommend the Rhyme Time DVD, which, by the way, also includes a section of numbers and the alphabet.』

We all love his writing - his stories are usually quite dark and yet offer a lot of humor, warmth and love as well. James and the Giant Peach is a wonderful story and well worth reading with your children. Mind you, there is the usual dose of Dahl meanness and nastiness but it is great story with many wonderful characters, budding relationships, and ultimately a very happy ending.
I was thus incredibly disappointed when we borrowed this DVD from our local library. The screenwriter took far too much liberty in changing things. I found it crude and insulting to the memory of Roald Dahl. If you have read the book, you know, for example, that the two horrible aunts are "disposed of" by the peach quite early in the story. In this movie, the aunts live on and actually follow poor James and his friends to New York City. Unbelievable.
Do read or listen to James and the Giant Peach (along with Matilda, the BFG, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) but skip this movie. If you do want to see a Roald Dahl movie, you would be much better off with either Matilda or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Mind you, neither of these is as good as the books they portray, particularly the latter, but they are still pretty good movies.』

(Roald Dahl and Tim Burton) 『When I first heard Tim Burton was making a film of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, I knew the mesh of styles was a very natural fit. The same thing applies here.
However, I believe this was based on a short story. So the folks responsible for this film padded it with musical numbers -- I hate singing in my movies -- and still wound up with only 80 minutes.
And that is the ONLY reason I dropped this down to three stars. Everything works, and quite well. 』

(The Odyssey) 『This is a beautiful three hour film version of Homer's 'Odyssey'. The film captures the essence of Odysseus's adventures and misadventures following the end of the Trojan War. I enjoyed watching it with my four and a half year old grandson who loved every moment of it. We have watched the film several times, discussed it and have now begun to read the book.』

(A Big Disappointment) 『I teach Homer's "The Odyssey" to high school students, and I also teach at Rutgers University in the Modern Greek Studies Program. Using this movie as a teaching aid to the reading of Homer's epic story is frustrating. There are countless errors between the epic and the movie. Apparently, those that worked on the script of this film thought they could improve upon an epic piece of literature that has stood the test of time for 3000 years. What arrogance! I used this film to have discussions with my students about why they thought the film makers changed so many things from the book. It is appalling to see how erroneous this film is from Homer's glorious epic. For example, Anticleia, the mother of Odysseus, is depicted as committing suicide in the film. The book says she died from her sorrow of waiting for Odysseus' return. The scene with Telemachos, Odysseus' son, visiting King Menelaos in Sparta in the film has Menelaos telling Telemachos that his father is dead and that he should go home. In the book, Telemachos finds out from Menelaos that his father is alive and held as a prisoner on Calypso's island. Telemachos also does not go home from Sparta until the goddess Athena goes to Sparta to tell him to go home in Book 15. In the slaughter of the suitors scene in the film, Telemachos kills the suitor Antinoos first. No! Odysseus kills Antinoos first. Also, during the slaughter of the suitors, Penelope is upstairs sleeping in the book, but in the film she is awake waiting in another room. These are just four examples of many from a film that deviates blatantly from the original. Anyone who gives this film a high rating simply does not know the Odyssey epic well enough to realize just how horrendously inaccurate this movie is. It is a shame that with all the special effects and the talented actors and actresses in this film (including the great Irene Papas) that the film fails so miserably.』

The story is not the core of the film but the music and dancing makes up for any small discrepancies with the script. If you like musicals you'll love this. I intend to play this every Christmas in the same way as I play the original version of "A Christmas Carol".』

(Mrs. Santa Claus -- absolutely delightful!) 『Mrs. Santa Claus is absolutely delightful. It's styled like an old time Broadway Musical and perfect for all ages. My 90 year old mother-in-law and my 2.5 year old granddaughter adored it. It was actually written by a Jewish guy and the words&music were written by another Jewish guy (Jerry Herman who wrote the scores to Mame, Hello Dolly and La Cage aux folles). In addition to the wonderful score, it has Rob Marshall's choreography. The guy who plays the stable keeper is now playing Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys. It also features a young version of the daughter from Grounded For Life who has a fantastic voice. If you have kids, you may recognize Michael Jeter (Arvo) who plays Mr. Noodle on Elmo's World. Angela Lansbury plays Mrs. Santa Claus. There's a lot of talent and good entertainment there. It's now on my list of Christmas movies to watch each year. However, my granddaughter won't let me put it away just yet.
