(Video is GREAT, bands STINK!)
『I absolutely love this video. The exercises really work your muscles, and the added squats/lunges really make a difference. I have been working out with weights for years, and have seen better results with these, and less irritation to my joints (particularly my wrists). The music and instruction are non-obtrusive and so is the instruction, so you won't get irritated, which is nice. However, the bands themselves STINK! The bands can be interchanged with handles, but they slip out of the handles CONSTANTLY. I actually had one snap out and crack me pretty hard on my back, leaving a huge red welt. Also, the bands cannot be interchanged quickly, so you have to stop your workout to do that and it brings your workout to a complete stop. I therefore purchased new bands that are easier to work with and interchange faster (from Amazon, called "Exercise bands super system by Bodylastics - Basic tension"), and it comes with it's own video which is okay...I think this video is better for a quick but thorough workout (it lasts about 20-25 minutes).』

(crap)
『One of the worst yoga videos I've ever seen. You would have thought they had to catch a plane judging by the speed they go through the poses. By the time you get into one pose, they are into the next one.』

(Become One with Yoga for Two!)
『My husband and I have just begun to practice yoga together in the past month. I find the quality of Gaiam/Yoga Journal productions to be top notch, so I was looking forward to receiving this video. We LOVE it! Our only 'complaint' is we enjoyed it so much, we wish the practice was longer! Rodney Yee and his wife lead us thru a gentle and beautiful 'dance' of yoga. The gorgeous setting on a beach helps set a serene frame of mind. The married couple coach us to assist each other thru the poses, which we found very helpful. I especially like the sequences where we are directed to take turns assisting each other thru one side of a pose, then together with our right feet touching each other, we both go into the pose for the other side together. Lovely bonding time! Namaste. :)』

(2 complaints)
『The video was OK, but not as good as we hoped it would be. My husband and I are athletic, however, we felt rushed and un-coordinated while trying to follow this video.

First, there is not much time between different poses, so we constantly had to pause the video and figure out how to position our arms and legs correctly so we can feel that we are actually doing yoga (and not aerobics). It has improved slightly when we followed the video a few times, but it is still rather fast paced. And second, this video requires lots of floor space, so don't buy it unless you have at least 20 square feet of practice space.

I feel that my husband and I bond better while doing yoga moves independently than following this couple-oriented video.』

(good one)
『Yoga-THE UNION OF HUMAN SOUL TO SUPREME SOUL』
『"LetYoga for Twohelp you let go of your isolation and spend some precious time together," invites expert instructor Rodney Yee. Yoga doesn't have to be a solitary practice. In this 20-minute video, Yee and his wife Donna Fone demonstrate yoga moves that a couple can do together.Yoga for Twois designed like a dance, the moves sometimes intertwining, sometimes mirroring each other. Sometimes one person does the posture while the partner helps adjust the other's form. Sometimes they do different, complementary moves, like one partner crouched in the child's pose while the other is draped over him or her in a supported backbend. You learn not only yoga, but how to communicate with your partner gently, in the spirit of yoga practice, and how to flow with another person. The cueing is exceptional, giving clear instructions and alignment tips. Fone demonstrates some modifications. Everything about this video is beautiful: the grace of the couple; the elegance of the postures; the sun-washed, golden beach, waves sparkling in the background.--Joan Price

(Not one of Rodney/s best)
『I have several Rodney Yee videos (6) and I have enjoyed them all from his power yoga for beginners series to to yoga burn. But this one misses the mark. There is not real flow just a set of posture grouped together. Missing is that trademark Rodney Yee dynamic flow. Nothing about this felt helpful. This one won't join my regular rotation of Yee videos in my practice』

(Good Video to Structure a Session, but NOT a Complete Session)
『Many have found this video to be a fairly advanced yoga workout, but for those who are familiar with a Vinyasa Flow or Ashtanga practice which generally last for 100+ intense minutes a session, you may find this to be of only moderate difficulty.

The video contains 2 "discreet" sessions with variations in vinyasa sun salutations that build up gradually in intensity. The sessions are short at 16 minutes for the first vinayasa series and about 20 minutes for the second, but Rodney is quick to point out that for a more vigorous practice, one should repeat the various sequences as desired or throw in additional postures as you see fit.

This personal modification would be necessary for those familiar with doing the full 10 Surya Namaskara A and B sun salutations, and means using the video as a fluid complete session is not really intended or possible as you would have to pause the video while the repeats are performed.

A couple postures from the Standing Fundamental Asanas are thrown in namely the Triangle pose and Utthita Parsvakonasana...but no real direction on how to do the postures properly is given. This means that some familiarity or formal instruction is beneficial so the postures are done correctly with proper alignment.

The end of the first session concludes with some relaxation poses, but not a complete finishing or Shavasana sequence.

The second session includes additional variants to the sun salutations, and then gets into some balance work with the tree posture, some moderate inversion and arm balance work using the side plank and Warrior 3.

There is a challenging session using a bent arm Downward Dog, and an extended Downward Dog held for 2 minutes. These are good elements to build into a personal practice and Rodney states that with time the postures can be held for 5 minutes and up, indicating again that the video is meant to be used for practice "ideas" rather than as a complete practice itself.

Rodney also includes some shoulder stand work and plow position(Halasana) work modified using a chair and straps. These are some standard postures from the Ashtanga finishing sequence. Rodney states that the shoulder stand postures can be held for up to 10 minutes as desired as strength increases.

He concludes the second session and the video itself with a discussion that the final postures are very challenging and are something to build up to. The crane posture used first is probably the first introduction most students get to arm balances and he guides the student into this posture in a fairly clear manner. The posture is challenging, but is one that is regularly practiced in my studio's Level 1-2 Ashtanga class so not something that is considered overly advanced.

The final posture referred to as the Pendulum posture has been criticized by many reviewers here as being impossible, but again, with yoga, the postures exist to challenge the practitioner. Rodney explains that using blocks will help the user get into this position, and while difficult, to those familiar with an Ashtanga style practice will recognize the Pendulum posture as the fundamental building block to performing the pass through vinyasas from downward dog to sitting...a sequence that is performed numerous times throughout an Ashtanga practice.

I would recommend this video to those who are reasonably familiar with a yoga practice and have some formal instruction so as to be able to get into the postures correctly with proper alignment.

The shortness of the sessions and moderate level of difficulty allow access to beginner practitioners, but the lack of instruction on adjustments and how to do the postures properly means that beginners will likely develop bad habits fast.

The sessions are good to use as building blocks for a personal practice and for variety in mixing-up one's repetition with the traditional Surya Namaskara A and B sequences, but given the shortness of the sessions, they can't really be used as a complete practice.

The practices done in series if you keep doing the practice without stopping at the conclusion of the first session creates a reasonable length session at about an hour...but is a bit clunky as finishing postures are included at what would be the middle mark of the combined session.

Again, a good video to be incorporated into an existing practice while finding less utility as a complete practice itself.』

(A remarkable practice)
『I don't recall where I got this video but from the beginning I loved it. I refer many of my students to this video. The only complaint I have is that I have not been able to find it on DVD.

This is a great video for beginners and intermediates and is wonderful for an easy practice for those intermediates who just need something slow and calming.

Gatlianne』

(Excellent but challenging)
『I started Yoga about 8 months ago at our local community college. I have purchased several DVDs to supplement my class. Rodney Yee has a calm and soothing voice. The inverted poses are a challenge for a beginner like my but I just go at my own pace and do my best.』

(Well-timed, excellent for beginners)
『Review: Strength Building Yoga by Rodney Yee

Challenging workout for beginners and intermediates who don't like to go to fast with power yoga. As others have mentioned, there are challenging poses at the end to work up to. For me, it was challenging enough to do the poses with form as beautiful as Rodney's. (I am new to Vinyasa, and have been doing gentle hatha for ten years.)

Well-timed. Poses are held enough to build strength, also to work on improving form and consciousness of that form. It will help the viewer to build form and strength in preparation for faster, more challenging workouts like Power Yoga Total Body Workout DVD.

The production value was excellent. (Package says filmed in inspiring Maui, but it actually took place in a dramatically lit interior space. That was the only mistake with the packaging.) The camera work and set design are excellent, very professional.

Namaste&thank you Rodney for a thoughtful challenging workout.』

『In the first 10 minutes of this 75-minute video, expert yoga teacher Rodney Yee performs a truly stunning flow series that will motivate you and leave your muscles itching to work. The lesson begins with variations of sun salutations and poses such as the dog pose, triangle pose, and others. In the second, more intense sequence, Yee leads the bridge, shoulder stand, warrior, and balancing poses, his narration soothing and his technique inspiring. Very difficult poses, such as the crane pose and pendulum pose, comprise the end of the set. This session is not recommended for those new to yoga because it is quite strenuous; students should first be familiar with the vinyasas to ensure that the poses are reached and held correctly.Yoga Journal's Yoga Practice for Strengthis an exceptional workout that will build stamina, power, and confidence.--Jhana Bach

(Once again Patricia delivers a renewal experience for mind, body and soul. Just LOVE IT!!!)
『Every time I do this DVD I end up feeling totally uplifted and grateful with life!!! Totally a MUST HAVE!!!』

(My Favorite New Workout)
『This workout has gradually become my favorite. I have to force myself to do others to maintain some variety. The production is outstanding, the music is perfect, the cueing is great and Patricia Moreno is just cool. Her energy is very positive and you finish the workout feeling good. I've done many other yoga and fusion workouts but this one is unique in a very creative way. Others have complained that it is repetitive. This is true but there is reason why: the moves are repeated and they build on the previous ones so that at the end of the workout, it is combined into a single graceful yoga flow. Because of the repetition, you can complete the whole thing competently and gracefully. Buy this DVD - you won't be sorry.』

(Very effective)
『I think Patricia Moreno is a great instructor. There's not much dance here actually, but particularly the 30 minute "express workout" is really quite good: works especially butt and hamstrings. I also really love the music.』

(BORING!!)
『I've been practicing yoga for 2 years at a yoga studio. I've moved away and decided to try some videos. This was way too slow and boring for me - my mind wandered, I kept yawning. It was awful. I can see it being very good for an absolutely new beginner. Patricia Moreno explains every move in excruciating detail for someone with experience. And you can have a drinking game with the number of times she says "gratitude".』

(If I hear gratitude one more time.....)
『This DVD looked promising as one that would combine dance&yoga for "more flow". The flow was just too slow (and I was looking for something gently) - to the point of being boring.
Also, Patricia just kept repeating the same phrases over and over - "give gratitude for what you are able to do", "an expression of gratitude". I am grateful that I can't do this stuff, but I don't want to keep hearing it for over 1.5 hours....
The moves themselves are OK, with some nice combinations and flow, but I wish it would speed up a little.』

『One of the biggest complaints about cardio routines is that they are boring or become repetitive over time. There s no risk of that happening with this exciting program that merges the cardio benefits of dance with sculpting and toning yoga routines designed to work together for the ultimate fun workout. (Not for the supremely out of shape)
『I'm surprised no one has mentioned that this DVD is pretty HARD. Just as one example, in the "Positive Outlook" practice under the Beginners menu, there is a downward dog segment in which we hold DD for a minute and a half (which is really pretty long for us beginners), immediately followed by a segment with a slow flow from downward dog to plank to upward dog to chaturanga and back--repeated twice! This is another four and a half minutes of intensive arm and core work. Thank heavens for a rest in child's pose, but wait! you're not done yet; the next segment has you doing FOUR MORE upward dogs. I tell you, this sequence hasn't improved my outlook yet. There are several other practices that have similarly difficult sections.

Not that there's anything wrong with challenging work---it's just that I have this image of overweight and out-of-shape people grabbing this DVD in search of some positive change and then feeling completely overwhelmed by the seeming impossibility of some of this stuff. It seems like there could be a little more encouragement from the instructor and recognition that most beginners are not going to be able to whip right through these poses without rests and/or modifications.

There is really some excellent alignment instruction here, but the issues above, coupled with the instructor's odd delivery and the insufficient time provided for setting up between segments, are what make me rate this at three stars only.

(NIce Intro to Yoga)
『This is a nice, slow practice for learning yoga and progressing on to more challenging levels. I have tried other DVDs that are way to fast and are hard to follow. This one is very clear and will still build up a sweat! The teacher is very encouraging and warm.』

(What's in a title?)
『The only think I don't like about this DVD is the title. I almost didn't buy it -- I don't want to lose weight. And I think it's a misnomer, unless you count an intention adjustment.

That aside, this is great Iyengar istruction. And there's very little for-real Iyengar available on DVD. I have the B.K.S. Iyengar Estes Park series but that's more history in the making and this is actual follow-along-with practice. Mary Pappas-Sandonas has a crisp and clear Iyengar practice and teaches at the prestigious Unity Woods yoga studio -- I'd love to take a class with her someday.

The structure of the DVD is nicely described in previous reviews so I won't even try. The Body Wisdom modular unit schtick works just fine here. In particular I like the Challenging Core (toughest core focus I've seen on any video) and Fatigue Fighter. I had to love this restorative sequence that includes a 2 min. (more or less) downward dog.

My one other quibble (besides the title) is the music. It's pretty nondescript. I would have preferred a music-off option so I could play my own selections or just enjoy silence.

I have over a hundred yoga videos -- even more if you count my Pilates, strength training collections...(yoga is definitely my focus though). I've maintained a daily practice for over 10 years, have done an alignment-centered teacher training and teach now and then. I (mostly) burned out on vinyasa/"power yoga" several years ago.

This DVD is defintely suitable for sharing shelf space with Barbara Benagh and Mr. Alignment from Within, Erich Schiffmann.

(So glad I found this.)
『Clawing my way out of yet another bout of clinical depression, I've been trying to make small positive changes in my life. Things like getting up in the morning, making the bed, and doing yoga sound simple on paper, but anyone with depression knows they can take every ounce of energy when you're in the depths.

I believe in serendipity, and I'm grateful this DVD found its way into my hands. I've been using it for a little more than a month, and I find that it has become an essential part of my life. With varied session times and several different areas of focus, this DVD is easy to fit into my day, and it allows me to choose the intensity or discipline to match the day's tone. I've never seen a yoga or fitness DVD like it.

This is, as noted, an Iyengar practice, which makes it perfect for me, because the constant insistence on paying attention to each nuance of a pose allows me to go deeper inside myself, at the same time allowing me to move outside myself to become an observer.

I don't have easy access to a yoga teacher or class, and I find that the Iyengar method -- combined with a mirror and this DVD's unique menus that make it possible to tailor the session to meet the day's needs -- is as good a substitute as I'm likely to find.

I consider myself an advanced beginner, and I have not yet become bored by the beginner routines -- haven't yet done them all, in fact. I'm finding that this DVD offers me more opportunities to move deeper into poses I thought I had "mastered."

I do need to lose weight, but that wasn't the main reason for purchasing this DVD. If you believe, as I do, that yoga allows one to develop both awareness and acceptance of oneself, then it naturally follows that with regular practice you'd reach a balance and begin to take better care of your body and spirit. I've found this to be true, and I'm losing weight slowly as an indirect result of a more wholistic awareness.

As noted by other reviewers, rather than leading a hard calorie-burning workout, the instructor focuses on poses that affect the body's hormonal balance and organs. My energy level has heightened as a result, and I often find myself heading outside after my yoga session for snowshoeing or some other healthy activity.

The one negative has transformed into something more positive, as well. At first I found the instructor's voice a bit irritating, as was the endless loop of the soundtrack. As I've continued working with the DVD, I've begun to hear compassion and comfort instead.

If you are interested only in a "power" yoga workout, you won't find it here. If you want only a spiritual/aesthetic experience, this isn't it. But if you want to learn more about yourself, your body and how it relates to your spirit, and to move deeper into various poses, this is the DVD for you.

The varied workouts at three different levels of difficulty promise to keep me engaged for years to come. And that's what I want and need.』

(Yoga Complete for Weight Loss)
『I, too, found this DVD a bit boring. The instruction for each pose took forever, even in the challenging workouts. While in-depth explanation is useful for beginner or even intermediate practices, I didn't feel it was necessary for the challenging sequence. Also, I did not feel as if there was any flow to this DVD.』

(travel yoga mat)
『This serves the purpose. I put it over top of the mats in classes. In New York City the yoga classes are very populated. It is good to have your own mat. My nice thick mat is just too heavy to lug around especially when I have groceries or other things plus a yoga mat to carry up and down subway stairs etc..

This mat is light and serves the purpose. It curls up at the end a bit when it is unfurled, but I just put it a yoga block or towel on the end. Now I leave my thick mat at home and take this nice light one on the go.

The price is right and it serves the purpose well. I wouldn't use it without a carpet, rug, grass or other mat under it though. You would need more cushioning for the knees.』

『This yoga mat is ideal for the traveling yoga who wants a high quality mat that is lightweight and rolls to a compact size. The mat features a smooth, slip-free surface, that is mildly tacky to the touch. The mat is made of a durable, dense foam that holds up well over time. Available colors are black and blue. Mat measures 68" long by 24" wide.

(Excellent yoga shorts)
『These are my favorite yoga shorts. They feel like natural fiber, breath and conform better than any other short I've tried.』

(perfect for the task)
『This short is minimalistic. Just what you need if you are doing Yoga. Grips the leg, does not show what you do not what to show. I use black underpants under them, as they are a bit too minimalistic without. I think they are a bit overpriced, but I have not found as good a short for less (low demand?).』

(My favorite yoga shorts!)
『The Mantra short by Prana is my favorite short for yoga. I practice Ashtanga, which is a very active form of yoga, so my body is twisting and turning a lot. The Mantra short is a great length - not too short, but not too long. It fits my leg well, too - it hugs it without being too ungodly tight. I recommend it!』
『Designed specifically for yoga practice, this snug-fitting, high-performance short stretches to move with your body in any direction. This short hugs the leg and finishes a few inches above the knee. A favorite classic short of many yoga practitioners! 90% Organic Cotton / 10% Lycra. Available in black.』

(A wide range of classical pieces.)
『This is a wonderful group of pieces that moves from classical to romantic to baroque to contemporary to impressionist. Peter Davison, who also composed some of the music, performs the flute with a lovely warm tone and the violin, cello and piano are just beautiful. Since the compositional styles go so many places, one can leave this on without it becoming predictable. We listen to this CD a lot.』

(LOVE IT! This CD is always on my computer - work&at home)
『I really like the way Peter Davison has chosen and arranged these compositions by great composers like Debussey, Bach, Ravel, Beethoven, etc. Peter Davison has also composed several of the pieces himself The CD has so many styles of music that I don't notice it has started over. I can just leave it on and it makes a pleasant musical background for my life!』

(Not a winner at all. The least of all the Adagio series.)
『Puts you to sleep, I don't mean relaxation, but sleep』
『This collection of tranquil selections of classical music from flutist Peter Davison and pianist Scott Hiltzik makes for familiar and soothing sounds by which to engage in yoga postures. We hear mostly from Ravel, Debussy, and Bach with some of their most recognizable works: "Pavane," "Arabesque," and "Siciliano," respectively. Davison and Hiltzik's renditions are soft and dreamy, forming a serene backdrop for the slow art of yoga stretching. Davison's originals--though lacking in the timeless melodies of great composers--are lovely, too, fitting well with the melancholy repertoire. With quiet classical standards played by a small, relaxed ensemble, this isn't a CD that will shake up the world, but it does succeed in centering the soul.--Karen K. Hugg
