『Kimberly Wilson was my first yoga instructor. I love all her work, I am familiar with her practice, voice, style etc, so I really enjoy doing yoga with both her CD's when I am away or when I do not feel like going to the studio. I am not sure though that this is the right CD for an absolute "newbee" who is not familiar with yoga or with Kimberly's yoga. If it were a DVD it might be more suitable. Otherwise, the CD is exactly "as much yoga" as anyone would need -both spiritually and physically. I strongly recommend it.』

(Good Yoga Session -- But not for "Newbies")
『I have been doing yoga at Kimberly Wilson's studio in DC for a number of years, and I picked up this CD to have something to use at home. It is a very good vinyasa yoga session. However, I would definitely not recommend this to those who have never done yoga before. The pace is pretty fast (in fact faster than the pace in the studio's Level 1 classes), and it seems to assume that the person has practiced yoga before. I would recommend going to around 10 classes before trying this at home -- otherwise, I think it would be pretty frustrating. That said, it goes through a good sequence of asanas. Downsides are (1) it is a little fast paced on a few of the sequences, and (2) I didn't think the music was all that great, especially in the beginning (mostly background piano music). But if you want a good vinyasa practice CD, this fits the bill! Kimberly Wilson is a very good teacher.』

『Perhaps I should have known from the title - "Basics Step by Step," right? I figured this would be a complete workout, and I was wrong. This entire thing is just an instructional video to demonstrate the basic yoga poses. Disappointing in that regard. If you've never done yoga and you just want to understand how to properly align your body and understand the fundamentals than you will probably like this. If you are looking for a complete yoga workout (like I was) you will be disappointed.』

『I just received this tape and I watched it all the way through before trying it. I watched it and said to myself this doesn't seem to hard. But, it was hard for me but not in a bad way. I was pleasantly suprised that the moves did what Bryan Kest said they would do -- which is work all my muscles while giving me an aerobic workout. I am so new to exercise that I don't have a lot of stamina yet so I was pausing, like he suggests, during some of the strecthes. But, I am determined to keep up with this. Bryan Kest is an encouraging and more importantly clear teacher. I have never felt before that I was doing the moves properly with other exercise tapes I have bought amongst them TaeBo, pilates, Slim at Six, etc. Also, I want to address the issue of his voice -- he has a speech impediment. It isn't distracting to what he is trying to teach and he is clearly understandable. He clearly knows what he is talking about. I also appreciate the fact that this was a secular tape with no Eastern religion overtones.』

(An Excellent Introduction To Power Yoga/ Vinyasa Flow)
『I've been a big fan of Bryan's original three tape video series (Energize/Tone/Sweat) for some time now. I've been doing yoga daily for close to 8 years now, study with a wonderful teacher and have well over 70 yoga videos in my collection that I rotate with (though I certainly have my favorite practices that get more time than others) so I've got some experience with these types of programs.

Bryan Kest is one of my favorite Yoga teachers because has a really down to earth teaching style and he's very knowledgeable and sincere. He always stresses that the breathing and equanimity are the most important aspects of Yoga. He also stresses listening to your body and modifying when needed.

I was glad to see that he came out with this Power Basics video because it gives folks who have never done Yoga before (or Power Yoga in particular)an excellent starting point.

This program primarily consists of the Sun Salutations (A and B) which he breaks down very methodically so that you can really get comfortable with each movement. After going thru the A Salutation very slowly he then moves through a faster flow of it. Then he does the same thing with the B Salutation.

The Sun Salutations contain the basics for anything else you might do in yoga and give tremendous benefits in and of themselves. Plus, they build heat in the body which makes the muscles supple. Another important facet of Sun Salutations is that they are breath led movements which work as a moving meditation.

He follows these with a seated forward bend and a lying twist before moving into relaxation pose.

Throughout the program he has one student who modifies the entire routine which is helpful to new students who may not know how to do this.

Though I am experienced with yoga I still enjoyed this program because I was pretty tired this morning and wasn't up for a really intense routine. I found this program gave me just what I needed this morning without overtaxing me.

Also, the length of the video is only about 27 or so minutes after the introduction. I like his introduction because I think he really helps you understand where he's coming from as a teacher and what he feels should be emphasized. I usually use intro's on yoga videos to do some light floor stretches before getting into the actual program, plus it helps me get into the mindset of the practice to come.

Anyway, I would highly recommend this video or any of Bryan's work. He is definitely the real deal!

『I've been doing yoga every day for almost 9 years and have amassed over 80 Yoga Videos and DVD's in my home library. Yoga Zone's videos have become an essential staple that has helped me cultivate my asana practice. I've just recently purchased "Strengthen and Tone", and there is no doubt that it will become a regular part of the rotation in my own home practice.

The first program focuses on lower body, lots of lunge type movements that will really work your legs and hips. The second program stresses the upper body, though both routines are holistic in the sense that they utilizes the whole body synergistically in most of the postures. This is something Yoga Zone always seems to strive for (and yoga in general), whole body integration while being able to focus on a particular area of the body.

If you alternate the first and second routine every two days you should see quite profound results in your strength, flexibility and overall well being. Of course, you could also do both sessions without stopping which would give you a very in depth whole body workout in about 40 minutes.

The teachers (Jeanne and Jen) are wonderful as always, they are easy to follow and also show modifications for those who are building strength and/or flexibility, or for those who are simply having a low energy day. Alan Finger,the head of Yoga Zone, always designs the sequences and once again has put together a fabulous series.

In General, Yoga Zone is the best value available. Most of the programs contain two self contained twenty minute routines. They are easy to fit into most anyone's schedule which makes it easy to have a consistent practice.

My experience with these programs is that even though they are only twenty minutes long, if you do them several times a week,incredible results will follow. Of course if you can do it every day then that will be even better :)

Yoga Zone also has programs that are much longer and are also quite excellent with some that are very challenging.

『I am new to yoga as a practice and I now do it 5-6 days a week. It is my primary exercise so I prefer the power yoga type routine. I have been doing Bryan Kest routines and i love them. I wanted something to rotate in so that I could work on different poses. I purchased this and have no regrets. This one gets me very warm and i broke a sweat but it was also challenging in a good way. I enjoyed it immensely. The movement flowed, the cueing was great and it kept me on track with my breathing. That in itself is great. Hope this helps.』

『I know I am the only person, so far, who is not entranced with this DVD. I bought it because it had such a plethora of glowing reviews. I am not happy I did.
What drew me to yoga, after decades of long distance swimming, was the philosophical component of the practice. Yes, I love a strong work-out, and I do one every day (Ashtanga Primary Series, Hatha Vinyasa, or Yin-Yang), but I don't want my yoga to feel like an aerobics class. If that's what you're after then buy this DVD; but, if you want something with a bit more yogic depth I would recommend Shiva Rea's Solar DVD. (It may be sold as the Solar Lunar practice. I am partial to the Solar practice and the meditations on the Lunar disc.)
The other thing I was not happy with when doing this DVD was the lack of music. Again, if you like your yoga sans music this may be the DVD for you.』

『This dvd is absolutely spectacular. I do this particular dvd when I know that this will be the major exercise of my day. It is challenging, and as another reviewer mentioned earlier, it is one of the few dvds that includes headstand in its routine. As an "intermediate-beginner" to "advanced-beginner" I consider this dvd to be at the top of my ability level. I do have other dvds that are more difficult, but I tend to modify the poses somewhat when I do them. With this dvd I am able to do all of the poses (as Tracey does them, not the more advanced way that Ganga shows) including headstand (without being near a wall). Most of the time I cannot do a headstand the same amount of time that Tracey and Ganga do, but it has given me the confidence to know that I can make slow steady advances with yoga. This dvd will get your heart pumping, and your legs will feel rubbery once you're done, but you will feel so relaxed afterward that you will be glad that you did this routine. I own all of the other dvds in the series (the original, earth, and water) and I would reccommend this set to anybody who wants to make progress with yoga or to have a variety to work on depending on your mood. I would put the original dvd (purple cover) to be just below fire as far as difficulty goes, and then obviously earth and water beneath that one. Again, there are days that I don't feel like doing the most difficult dvds that I have but I still want to do a yoga routine, and it is at these times that I normally get the earth or water out. Water is another one of my personal favorites in my collection. Earth is very conservative throughout the whole routine, but it is a great dvd to help you concentrate on the poses to make sure that you're getting them right instead of flying through them (like an ashtanga yoga class). If you want a complete series that will do just about everything, then get this dvd set. Another thing that I like about this series is that Tracey and Ganga don't "shy" away from any weaknesses. The only pose that I don't remember them doing is eagle pose. Throughout the whole series they do just about every one of the basic poses, so that they (unlike other dvds I own) aren't taking poses out of the routine that they can't do. All of the poses are in there. If you enjoy this series half as much as I do, then you will love it.』

『Wow this yoga got my heart pumping. I really found it fun and it was challaging for me.If you are fairly a begginer at yoga you might want to try a lower level in the series because I think this one is level three and they do some head stands that I am unable to do yet but plan on working at it. It is also over an hour all the way through so you are looking at spending some time. Good DVD not my absolute favorite but still very good, I have just been getting into yoga so I want to try a few more tapes just to add to my collection of videos. The only complaint I have, which is a small one at that, is the woman's voice who is doing the narrating is not as soothing as I would hope, but before I got this DVD I was using another DVD where the narrators voice was very melodic so it might just have been what I got used to and you may not even notice it. I enjoy yoga because although it is challanging at the same time it is relaxing and I guess I was just a little dissapointed that the voice was so instructional , but like I said that is minor and I still give it 4 stars!:)』

(What I always wanted in a yoga mat.)
『I'm in my early sixty's and have been doing yoga for most of my adult life. Teaching bring a lot of students with a wide variety of yoga mats. Over the years I've tried them all. I haven't bought myself a new mat in years because there was nothing out there that was anything special. I read a couple of very good reviews about the Jade mat. I went on line to find out more. I saw the price. I had to talk myself into buying the mat by saying that this is an investment in my passion. I had to let it air out for a couple of days to get rid of the rubber odor. I took it to class. The mat was great. I felt very secure and sure footed. I put my other mats away. I went to an all day Iyengar workshop. Everyone wanted to work with me on my mat or use it when I wasn't using it. Great mat. Well worth the extra cost. I hope I feel the same way after a year or two?』

『When you first get this mat, the eau de rubber is overpowering. Eventually, it does subside, but for me it never went away. Perhaps because the mat itself only lasted about three months. Indeed it was quite sticky, for a few practices. After about a month, the traction tapered off and it started to pill and crumble. A few months later, it was at the curb, er, I mean, recycling plant. Go with the Manduka. It's not great either, but WAY better than this.』

The dark blue color is ideal for kids, and because it is dark, will show less discoloration as it is used over time. At 6.2mm, our extra thick kid's yoga mat is a full 1/4" thick, and is one of the thickest mats on the market. When shopping around for a yoga mat, note that what many other companies call a 1/4" mat is actually 4.5 - 5.2 mm in thickness -- considerably thinner than this mat. Mat measures 60" x 24" x 1/4".

(Perfect for Unwinding After Work!)
『This video has been a godsend to me for unwinding after work. The exercises target the places where we all feel tight after sitting at a desk all day: the neck, shoulders, and upper and lower back. Yee's videos always feel as much like meditation as yoga. His soothing voice and slow pace is so relaxing, along with the peaceful locations (this one is filmed on a grassy hill in Maui, overlooking the ocean). This video contains lots of"down dog"and"upward dog"moves, along with a few backbends and even some leg stretches to balance out all the upper body work. And don't be afraid of the backbends! He starts slow with moves that will prepare your back for this!』

(Beginner?)
『I have mixed feelings about this and other tapes in the Living Arts/Gaiam series. I feel that they offer good workouts, but are NOT for beginners.

I'm familiar with yoga postures, having had a daily practice over 10 years ago. But Rodney Yee never offers modifications for the postures or ways to build up to being able to do them.

A backbend? I haven't managed a full backbend that easily since I was 12. He doesn't offer ANY tips on how to build the strength to get there.

He has the student go into a"push-up"position, which requires a great deal of tricep strength and no way to build to that point. (The way to build to it would be to start in plank pose and slowly lower down.)

If you are a true beginner with little strength or flexibility, stick with Yoga Zone or Linda Arkin until you are stronger.』

『First of all, several reviewers have mentioned that this tape is not for beginners, but it is important to remember that ALL of the videos in the Living Arts series recommend that you start with "Yoga Practice for Beginners" if you are not familiar with yoga poses. That being said, this is a relatively fast-paced tape that can be a little hard to follow at first, so I'd highly recommend watching the tape before attempting to follow along.

I consider myself to be a yoga beginner with limited flexibility, but I was able to perform the majority of the poses on this tape. The first time I tried it, I thought that there was no way I would EVER be able to lift myself into a backbend, but on my second time through, I was able to briefly raise myself off the ground. This video is definitely challenging, especially given the fast pace, and I would recommend being well-rested before giving it a try. However, with some practice, it is certainly doable for beginners, and I highly recommend Rodney Yee for motivating, expert instruction.』
