It's true...don't listen to it when you drive because it will put you to sleep in a matter of minutes! I have a very hard time getting to sleep and this is the only thing I have found that really works. The first track is a guided relaxation&the 2nd is just the sound. Works with your body's own natural rhythm, starting out at a fast pace and then slowing down as your body relaxes. Also great for when you wake up in the middle of the night&can't get back to sleep. The Soothing Pulse is designed for adults and adolescents and consists of:
A continuous, pulsating beat designed to synchronize--or entrain--the left&right brain hemispheres.
Two interlacing drones. A bass drone (i.e., continuous, meditative sound) intended to ground us, and a light, melodic drone designed to quiet our thinking mind, helping to create a sense of peace and flow.
A rhythmic, guided entrainment script that escorts the listener through a progressively deepening state of relaxation. The tempo begins at an up-beat, lively pace then gradually descends to a tranquil, soothing cadence.A series of thought stopping, meditative affirmations that emphasize restful breathing, flowing, and letting go.

If you are without a television, buy it now. If you can program tracks on your CD player, this CD is especially helpful. The 14 or so tracks include opening meditation, pranayama, warm-ups and various poses such as the goddess, the eagle and a spinal twist. The vinyasa-flow is perfect for a morning stretch. Ken's voice is clear, precise and gentle. Be sure to check out volume one, as well as Ken's meditation CD.』 『Selected "Editor's Choice" byYoga Journalmagazine (October 2000),Sadhana: The Daily Practice of Yoga, Volume 2offers a technically solid hatha yoga practice grounded in the heart-opening tradition of Kripalu Yoga. The CD follows the same presentation style used on the best-selling Volume 1. Instruction is clear and precise, easy-to-follow, providing details of alignment and inspiration for the postures. The emphasis is on self-acceptance and the inner experience of the practice rather than on achieving perfect form.
The core practice of 22 postures is a carefully designed sequence of three backbends, four forward bends, one side bend, four spinal rotations, two inversions, and two balancing postures. One track features a flowing vinyasana of standing warrior postures. The overall result is an energizing, balanced, solid daily practice that is accessible to beginners as well as challenging for more advanced students.
The CD is fully programmable, allowing for the design of multiple customized sequences. This perfectly produced CD can be used every day to create a fun, well-rounded, "feel good" experience.』
IPhone 3G used's review (Not what I expected) 『I am an intermediate level Pilates practioner who has taken a few classes. The description on the cover of this tape led me to expect a fast-moving, challenging intermediate level workout. Instead, this tape turned out to be a relatively slow-moving Pilates practice which would be more appropriate for beginners. Many of the exercises are modified versions of the classic Pilates moves, but those brand-new to Pilates might have difficulties following along, as there is only limited instruction given by Moira Stott to her two students. This workout would be best suited to advanced beginners who want a workout that moves at a steady pace and can be completed in under 30 minutes.』
(Stott Power Mat Workout) 『Excellent next step after mastering the intermediate tape - two students show clearly how to modify each excercise for your level and body type. If you are already doing the advanced tape this will not be a challenge for you.』 『For those who have mastered the essential level exercises or are familiar with pilates, the Stott Pilates Power Matwork from Video Action Sports is a dynamic and energizing way to work out.』
IPhone 3G used's review (DVD version is called Yoga for Radiant Health&Well Being - Beginners *Slow Yin Yoga Pace*) 『This DVD looks to be from a VHS several years before his "Samphoorna Hatha Yoga: Level 1" since here he is only a little bald&tiny bit of gray hair where the other he's very bald&much more gray hair. There is no menu, it starts with old graphic text about being careful. The video shows him on an old wooden dock, but you can only see exotic beautiful plants around him. The video looks like decent home video. The camera does zoom in/out as needed&changes angle. The sound is fine&he does instruction via voice over. The music is always a slow, beautiful flute. The pace of this video overall is verrrry slow&very relaxed like you have all the time in the world. He tells you the English&Sanskrit name of all the poses&how they benefit the body&it's organs except for the sun breathing/salutations. Breathing/Relax - 8 min - him in corpse pose telling you how to relax&to be aware of your body. There is more basic text once in a while about loose clothing, that this is a beginners tape,&to go for a more instructional if you need more details on the poses, etc. He also chants OM 3x long&relaxed while sitting. He teaches paranayama/breathing is the count of 3 slow. Sun salutations - 9 min - he does them very fast from the get-go like power yoga pose, slow single breathe for each pose/movement. He's mountain pose backbends are amazing, he goes from mountain, standing fwd bend, lunge, plank, down to knees to upward facing dog, downward facing dog, lunge, standing fwd bend&back to mountain 5x. He gives only breath teaching&pose name, no other details. You rest&feel body as standing&then repeat sun salutations 2x more. Lay down&relax. Strengthening - 8 min - raise single leg w/o use of arms to stretch fast several times&then hold pose w/ankle rotations/turns, then knee to chest stretches, double leg lifts/lowers, knee to chest stretch, rocking on spine&rest for 2 min. Inversions - 5 min - shoulder stand sustained w/1 leg lowered to head&plow for 3 min w/few second break in between. Rest for 1 full minute, fish folding for about a min&rest for a minute. Spinal Stretch - 10 min - sitting fwd bend to both straight legs several times for a second&then sustained for a full minute. Cobra is next for a full minute with a break in between&full 2 min rest. Next is locust 1 leg at a time then both (he can go VERY high) for 2 min, then bow for a min. Sitting Spinal Twists - 7 min - first sitting kind to the side of your thighs, bend sideways, then basic spinal twists almost all yoga classes do, rest in a deep squat, then crow (very advanced), triangle (his looks like a basic standing side stretch *though his are deep* legs are facing fwd, legs not far apart, but felt good just the same)&standing fwd bend. Rest/Meditation - 11 min - corpse pose&he tells you to tense&relax body parts&to focus your thoughts.
I found this video relaxing after doing the sun salutations, at first I was bored with the pace. I didn't feel energized or spiritually relaxed other then nicely stretched out that any decent yoga dvd could give. I do like slow pace yoga videos with the right teachers. I was also not happy that he didn't give any teaching of doing the poses better, though happy he does tell you how your body benefits from the poses. He is not woo-woo as some very logical "I only do yoga to burn calories¬ get arthritis" would be afraid of. He is to the point in his speaking. I still like his "Sampoorna Hatha Yoga at Home With Yogi Hari: Level 1" more which I wrote a quick review of. Because of the lack of teaching, I wouldn't really recommend this as a 1st yoga video unless you were very aware of your body&know how far to go&when to back off. Take off 1-2 stars if you don't like slow pace or minimal instruction.

(The Best Yoga Tape for Beginners) 『Yoga taught by a real Indian Yogi (Yogi Hari) really makes a difference! I've tried many yoga tapes by several American exercise instructors, and none of them come close to this tape.
If you're totally out-of-shape and want to try yoga, this is the tape for you. There are so many things this tape has that others don't: He gives you plenty of time to rest and relax between poses, he gives you a great warm up, stretching&toning exercises before doing yoga postures, he tells you exactly when to breathe in and when to breathe out without fail throughout the entire tape and explains the importance of breath in yoga, he tells you which parts of the body (including organs and endocrine glands) are stimulated by each posture, he tells you the Indian name of the posture as well as the English name, his voice is peaceful and the background music is very relaxing. The postures you do make you feel great and relax your muscles as well as toning them. I love how he has you chant"OM"with him before you begin the workout and again at the end of the workout. It's such a nice touch.
There's only one posture on the tape I can't do that I don't feel is for beginners, but everything else I can do. After I've done the workout, I feel like I'm walking on clouds. It really, really does something to make you and your body feel great. I'm addicted to doing yoga with Yogi Hari everyday now, and look forward to trying his Intermediate tape soon. I highly recommend it for beginners.』

(ok-but too fast and stylized) 『Everyone loves this DVD because of the production values, but I found the set and sweaty women a little intimidating. The yoga teachers had wonderful form, but it felt as if they were saying look what we can do and look what you cannot do. I have other yoga DVDs with wonderful instructors dressed similarly, but for some reason I felt like I was watching soft porn during this DVD. Maybe these teachers and Bryan Kest can get together and do a soft porn yoga DVD. The class itself moves too fast and the cueing is awful. It also has a weird sequencing to the poses. If you are looking for a more advanced DVD, you probably will like this one because there are many difficult poses, and if you are a guy who wants to see beautiful, hot, sweaty women bending over backwards, you should also give this DVD a try.』
(Yogarobics) 『This DVD does yoga poses at an aerobics pace. If you can't keep up you will miss a pose or two, or three. Part of the flow-pace issue is with the instruction. For instance, the instructor will tell you a sequence of two or three moves and then the girl in the video will do them, so it takes some time to get your own flow-pace set so that you are neither too far ahead or behind. Also, the amount of instruction is lacking. For example, you will get a set of instructions for one side and then "repeat on second side" is all you get on the second. Also, if you don't already have a good foundation of yoga poses and what they are called you will not be able to follow this DVD as there is not enough time to watch the video and then do it yourself before they have moved into a new pose.
The Spring and summer sections are as I have described above, very fast. The Autumn focuses on balance so it is slowed down a bit. Winter also is a bit slower, but this is usually where I start getting interrupted by my five year old, so if you don't have a five year old this may not apply. The Lunar sequence, as it is intended to be done before bed, is very slow, so slow in fact I got bored and stopped.
With all of that said, this DVD is challenging and that makes it fun. Its biggest downfall is the lack of verbal instruction which makes it difficult to follow even after doing it several times. 』
(Great yoga dvd but poor cueing) 『Lovely cinematography, I enjoy the practice itself and feel fantastic at the end and I also appreciate some of the more challenging moves introduced here.
However the cueing is out of time and poses are somewhat rushed in places. I also find that some of the stretching in the lunar sequence is not held long enough to give you any real benefit.
I reccommend this dvd for someone who would like some fresh ideas for their practice and a bit of a challenge but be prepared to be dissatisfied with the cueing and find the need to rewind or pause the dvd.』
(My favorite) 『This DVD has helped me take it to the next level. I really enjoy this workout and it helps me feel challenged. I also like that there are still moves to strive for on this workout!
My only small complaint is that there are a couple of moves I'd start from a different position, they seem a little awarkward the way they were "choreographed". The main ones are Bird of Paradise and the first time we come into Cresent Moon. I just come into it the way I'm used to doing it in my class at the gym. It's nothing major, I just make my little adjustment and the workout continues to be fabulous.
The 4 seasons are a nice touch and you can easily break up the workout if you are short on time. Spring is the warmup and gets you flowing, Summer is the strengthening/power yoga part, Autumn has nice balancing poses and wraps up with Winter and shoulder stands, plow and backbends and shavasana. It is almost 50 mins, total.
I always finish the workout feeling amazing! I recommend this if you are an intermediate level practioner. Other good workouts are Yogatopia, Shiva Rea's workouts, Rainbeau Mars Pure Power and Rodney Yee's Intermediate Yoga.』 『Yoga Radiance Engage your mind and spirit! This DVD is amazing! All those years of gym-style cardio hasn't changed my body for the better as much as these 20-minute sessions 3-4 times a week has. I'm leaner, stronger, more flexible, destressed, and happier (so is my husband!). This is a great DVD for anyone. Thank you to the Young Survival Coalition!』
(Easy workout for beginners who know poses, good breath connection) 『This is set outside with a wonderful view that have been on other Self dvds&2 women backup, one showing modifications, all in good shape. The production values are professional. The music starts with a good beat, though a little too like other fitness music, but it changes with the workout&gets lighter with more Asian&then meditative music which was wonderful. Stephanie Culen does well telling you when to breath almost at all times when she's not giving pointers on how to do the poses right. She doesn't have time to give full explanations, only the usual reminders. Her voice was not soothing to me, not irritating, but it sounded a little stressed/stiff possibly from nervousness. Intro about workout: 3 min Active Sequence: 21 min mountain with arms moved to breath, mountain w/side bends, wide angle standing w/arms moved to breath, standing wide angle bend, warrior 2 on each side, , warrior 1&2, repeat on other side, warrior 2, 1, 2, repeat on other side, standing wide angle bend, warrior 2, revolved warrior, triangle, side angle, crescent w/prayer twist, 1 leg hamstring stretch, down dog, standing fwd bend, mountain, repeat on other side. Sequence again on both sides with poses only held for 1 breath each. Cat/cow stretch, hands/knees 1 arm/1 leg up balance, child's pose held several breaths. Locust, bridge, reclined butterfly. Restorative Sequence: 20 min Reclined butterfly, in that position, mild sit-ups a bit, knees to chest stretch, pilates ab exercise bicycle elbows to knees, pilates reclined single straight leg lifts/downs, knee to chest stretch, reclined w/straight legs up with flexed feet to stretch legs upward. Reclined single straight leg stretch to head, figure 4 knee to chest stretch, reclined crossed leg spinal twist, fish, sitting fwd bend, legs in figure 4, go into table top position to strengthen legs, single leg sitting fwd bend, single wide leg fwd bend, single leg wide angle bend, butterfly, seated side torso stretch, easy seated spinal twist, seated, normal, slow, deep breathing Final relaxation/Savasana: 1 min
I like Stephanie's importance of breath, but I did not feel the poses felt right, most felt like they should be reverse to open up better. I am picky about body awareness. I also did not like the repetitiveness of the warrior 2s in the beginning nor the pilates workout for something titled "de-stressing." I can see how others would like it though. Since she does not have time for full explanations on doing the poses correctly, this may not be best for newbies as one of the backup girls did the warrior 2 incorrectly by allowing her knee to go past her toes.

(Good, non-intimidating stretch) 『You don't have to be a yoga pro to do this DVD. Stephanie Culen cues well and gives modifications if you need to make the poses a little easier. She encourages you to work at your own pace and listen to your body. The standing section starts out with side stretches and warrior poses. Stephanie builds on the basics and it becomes a nice, flowing routine. The floor routine is a little strange at first with the abdominal exercises. You hold the stretches a little longer in this section. I like both workouts. You get a thorough stretch and it's not intimidating if you're not that flexible.』
(Great instructor) 『This is a good workout with a great instructor--she is very businesslike in the sense of getting right down to the workout without extra chit-chat (religious or otherwise), but does so in a very calm fashion. I only noticed a couple of areas near the end of the first workout where she seemed to rush things a bit (the twists) to where you were not quite in position to get a couple of breaths in before you were already getting out of it and going on to the next position. However, since there is always a bit of lag time when you're following along anyway, this is something you can adjust for.
Whether you're a beginner or more advanced, you will get a very soothing workout. The scenery is beautiful. I hope Ms. Culen does some more yoga DVDs soon.』
(Great DVD for Beginners) 『Having done a Yoga class at my local YMCA and enjoying it, I decided to pick up a yoga video for home. I grabbed this one and am so glad that I did. As the other reviewers have stated this DVD is made up of 2 routines that both last 20 minutes. The DVD allows you to select either one or the other. If you choose to do the first routine (standing yoga) it will flow into the second routine (floor yoga). The video was well done with enough repetition so that even the most green beginner would be able to pick up the poses. The instructor was very clear and offered several different variations as to levels of poses. The day after doing this yoga dvd (even though I typically do at least 45 minutes cardio and weight training at my gym several times a week) I had some muscle soreness. This is a great workout for those who are looking for a low impact workout. I would highly recommend it.』 『Studio: Koch International Release Date: 10/09/2007 Run time: 48 minutes』

IPhone 3G used's review (Great mat!) 『This mat is wonderful! Color was exactly as pictured, and I don't slip off of it like I did with my old mat.』
(Great Mat) 『I had a hard time deciding on which mat to purchase, as I really wanted a sticky mat. This isn't super sticky yet, but I am sure it will be soon, once it's more broken in (I've used it about 3-4 times). The thickness is great for me and I love the gold color I got. If you're looking for a quality mat that will be sticky, go with this one. I have a few micro tears in mine already too, hence the 4/5 stars. I would purchase the same mat again.』
(Too slippy) 『I have found this mat to be very slippy which makes holding postions difficult. I'm hoping with use that it will wear in but after six uses there's not much improvement.』
(Good basic mat if you have dry hands and feet) 『I initially purchased this mat when first starting yoga (Iyengar) 3 years ago--however, I've found that even with multiple washings, it is just not sticky enough for me for many poses. I must have sweatier feet and hands than others who have used this mat! I am waiting to receive Harmony's rubber mat--this one is used in the yoga studio I go to and seems quite sticky.』
(Two Sides to All Yoga Mats; Know Which Side is Up) 『Yoga mats come in three basic thicknesses. At 1/8" this mat is of average thickness. At 24" x 68" it is also the standard width and length. Mats that are about half a thick as this one are good for travel or placing under a thicker mat to provide more traction. The thick mats (3/16") are about 50% thicker than this one and are designed for those who need or want extra cushion.
There are two sides to this and nearly all yoga mats. Look carefully at the 'bumps' on each side of the mat. The larger bumps are designed to face upwards to cushion your hands, feet, and knees during poses while keeping your body from dangerously slipping out of alignment. The smaller bumps are designed to face downwards to grip the floor and keep the yoga mat from sliding. Many mats have a label on one end with the name of the brand. This is typically, but not always, located on the 'up' side. The bumps will tell you for sure.
This yoga mat will increase in softness and stickiness with use. (So do most mats.) They start out mildly sticky and increase in stickiness the more they are used. You will want to wash your mat when it first arrives so as to remove the thin film they get on their surface during the manufacturing process. Instructions for washing the mat are included. Once you've washed and dried your mat you're ready to begin! After using it for a while, if you find the mat decreasing in stickiness each time you pull it out, this is the typical sign that a light coating of dust or too much body sweat has accumulated on your mat and it needs a light hand washing with very diluted soap and water. After washing, roll your mat in a thick towel to squeeze out the excess water, otherwise it will take forever to dry in the air. Then, air dry your mat unrolled, inside, and away from sunlight. (Hanging over the shower bar works nicely.)
When you first unroll your mat you will find one end to be a bit curled. Simply alternate the direction you roll your mat (top outside once, then bottom outside next) or the end you start from (curled end once, flat end next time) and you'll find it straightening out more or less over time.
I recommend buying your own yoga mat even if your yoga studio or gym provides them for you. I've worked in many studios and gyms over the years. Sometimes management has mats cleaned often, sometimes not. If you bring your own mat you always know where it's been. :o) Plus, owning your own mat may encourage you to begin valuable practice at home.
For my students who have trouble with their knees in some of the poses requiring the body weight to rest on a knee, I recommend temporarily folding over one end of the mat to get double cushion under the knee while still leaving one layer under the rest of the body. This saves you having to haul more than one mat out each time you practice which can be discouraging especially to the beginner.』 『The Original Tapas Mat with its stable, non-slip surface provides you with all the comfort and security that most yogis need to meet their practice needs. Let me say that I've probably owned this book 4 times, but it continually disappears and I have to buy it again. I am a pediatric occupational therapist, so I do a lot of Yoga with children with disabilities. I've used this book with kids ages 3 through 18 that have varying levels of disability. The colorful pictures truly grab children's attention. The pictures are basic enough that children can look at the picture and attempt to imitate the pose. The yoga is 'watered down' enough that I can adapt these poses to most any child, not only those with special needs. My own daughter loves to look at this book with me! You do not need a high knowledge base about Yoga to make this book effective and practical. I've purchased many other kids yoga activities, and this is the one that I use daily in my professional practice.』
(Good foundation for kids' fitness) 『This book is well-written, and approaches yoga at a good level for kids.
The authors have selected a good variety of movements, and presented them in a format that make them accessible to kids. There is a mixture of easy and not-so-easy positions, and instructions for how to start simple and get more advanced as the child progresses.
There is also ample instruction for the adult who is overseeing their practice. I haven't had a lot of exposure to yoga myself, but I got enough information from the book that (with a little preparatory work on my part) I felt confident in knowing how to get them in the right position while watching out for any problems.
