(Yoga s Journal Step by Step vol. 2)
『I really like this Yoga video. It flows vey nice and Natasha has such a soothing way and voice. Highly recommend.』

(A little fast)
『I have Yoga Step by Step Vol. 1 and 2. I love them both! Natasha moves a little fast though. I like the fact that Jason is on there for those who can't get into some positions. I've been doing yoga for years now and I enjoy these videos.』

(Excellant instruction)
『I have been suffering from back pain for the past year or so and back bends have been very helpful in taking some of that pain away. The instruction on this dvd is superb. After watching the dvd once I realized that I wasnt doing the asanas perfectly. Just one session of the yoga practice on the dvd made me feel far better that I had in months. Natasha takes great care to explain alignment, breath and modifications for each of the asanas covered. There are many very useful features on this including chalk talk, and watching a beginner practice the asanas which were especially useful. Truly an excellant video.』

(Another great instructional workout from Yoga Journal)
『This DVD, the second in the Step by Step series by Yoga Journal, has the same great features that the third had: an instructional portion going over all of the postures it covers in detail, followed by a "flowing" workout to use once you've mastered the instruction. Also included is an option to follow along with Jason, one of the assistants, in case you need to modify for most of the workout.

Based on what I've read on other sites, I think this is going to be the most popular of the three releases. First, it's that "just right" level of challenge- not as basic as the first (not that there is anything wrong with basic) but not as daunting as the arm balances in the third. Second, the fact that it's promoted as increasing flexibility, which most people associate with yoga, probably contributes to its popularity.

This release covers back bends, twists and forward bends. Included are Ujjayi Breathing, Half Sun Salutation, Sun Salutation A, Cat/Cow, Hero, Downward Dog, Plank, Locust, Cobra, Upward Facing Dog, Camel, Bridge, Wheel/Upward Facing Bow, Easy Seated Pose, Easy Seated Twist, Half Lord of the Fish, Staff, Head to Knee and Seated Forward Bend. All of this is followed by a peaceful (but short) relaxation in Corpse for 2 minutes.

Although there are a few postures that might scare beginners off (Camel and Wheel come to mind), the tips and modifications included should allow most people to feel comfortable attempting the postures. As in the other releases, the instructor also shows and discusses some of the common alignment errors, paying special attention to protecting the low back.

Although it is included as part of a set, I think this practice is very complete and someone could feel good about using this as a regular part of their routine without feeling like they were getting an unbalanced workout. The fact that the flowing practice takes 20 minutes (and the extended instruction is still only 35 minutes) is a bonus.』

(Hatha Yoga for Flexibility)
『According to a recent study, 15 million people in America are now practicing yoga. 8.7 million are beginning students and 7 million practice yoga at home.

If you love Yoga, then you might want to experience the Yoga Journal's Step by Step series. This is for students of yoga who have mastered the first instructional session in Yoga Step by Step Session 1. Natasha Rizopoulos leads you through backbends, twists and forward bends.

Yoga can help you fully relax and prepare for meditation or just feel more relaxed while reading or cooking. Your mind will be cleansed and while the world surges around you in all directions, there will be an inner calm you can carry with you all day.

I'd consider myself to be intermediate and the workout on this DVD seemed to be an intermediate workout with some challenging bending and twisting poses. It is a healing workout that may be enjoyed by intermediate yoga students who are looking for challenging backbends and twists.

Natasha Rizopoulos has a beautiful teaching style that allows you to fully experience the body mind connection. She encourages you to experience yoga in order to balance your life. After watching her Yoga demonstration you may start to think of Yoga as an art form and not just an exercise routine. She turns yoga into ballet and her upper body strength is astounding. Upper body strength will be especially important in this DVD.

I'd "highly" recommend buying two beveled foam yoga blocks (if you have yet to buy them) and a yoga strap along with this DVD. Modifying the balancing poses with props is advised.

This DVD has interesting menu options. There are really two main parts:

A 35 minute tutorial - You explore the postures in depth
20 minutes of uninterrupted flowing practice - a vigorous vinyasa flow sequence

You can follow the Instruction Menu, Practice Menu, go straight to the Yoga Chalk Talk (a great way to explore the poses) or Medical Commentary. The Practice menu has four sections:

Begin Practice (Different from Begin Instruction)

Follow Jason Crandell - This is an excellent option if you want to use props like blocks. Jason demonstrates modifications for those who have less flexibility.

Practice with Medical Commentary
Practice without Music

This is the second DVD in a series of three high-quality yoga packages. You will need blocks and a mat. Even after years of yoga practice, it is exciting to find out there is so much more to learn. This is a must-have series for anyone who is interested in yoga. I personally think this is intermediate or can be done by individuals with good upper body strength and balance.

Natasha Rizopoulos teaches at Yoga Works in Santa Monica, CA and have studied with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India. She teaches at conferences and has appeared in YOGA, a photography book featuring the country's top yoga teachers.

(Great workout)
『This is a 70 minutes workout, it's actually a re-release of the"hot yoga"series , I bought level 2 because I've read it's more advanced than level 3 which I haven't tried. It is a little bit challenging and reminds me his"soul of strength"video except there are 50 minutes of standing poses!
Some reviewers said this is a bad quality video which is not quite true, but I agree it's not the best production, the music is a little bit chessy but if youre focusing in your practice it's shouldn't bother you!』

(Too much chit-chat)
『All I could think about during this video was"Is he ever going to be quiet and why does he repeat everything he says twice?"Verbal instruction is good, but at times Baron sounded corny and very"fitness"motivated. If you are just looking for a workout, then I guess this wouldn't be bad, but if you are searching for a video that goes beyond a workout then don't look here. Don't get me wrong, I admire Baron's attempts to bring yoga to the mainstream, but this video doesn't stand out and doesn't offer anything different than the other"Power Yoga"videos out there. In fact, during the middle of the video I began to wonder if I was in a Bikram class! The balancing sequence was exactly the same, pose for pose. So in the end, if you asked me if I would recommend this video the answer would be no. But what do I know? Try it for yourself and then you be the judge.』

(Body tightening work out)
『This tape definately had me sweating. It felt great to have all the tension released from my muscles. A very throrough and enjoyable workout.』

(A Great Yoga Journey)
『This is the longest of the three-part Baptiste"Power Yoga"series, and the most challenging. It starts with a warming flow series, moves into some twisting, balancing and lunging poses and ends with some core power and relaxation work. It is fairly intense, but not quite as leg-burning as Bryan Kest's tapes. There is more emphasis on balancing poses rather than muscle power poses, but it will still work your entire body thoroughly. The tape may feel long to some people, especially those new to yoga, but this is a great tape and a joy to practice.』

(advanced)
『this is a good yoga tape if you are ready for a challenge. There are alot of poses that are pretty challenging..but it does do what it promises , you will be sweating a lot! The first time I did this tape, I could not finish it, I was getting frustrated..but I will return to it and practice till I get it.』

『The DVD had two sessions - backbends and forward bends. Some of the poses in the forward bends session are very difficult. The really unfortunate aspect of this DVD is that there's no menu selection that allows you to immediately start a session. You either have to sit through the opening dialog for each session or keep hitting the next button. The DVD should have at least three sessions, minimize the opening dialog, and provide better verbal instruction through each pose.』

(Not for the short of breath!)
『Distraught after wearing out my VHS copy of this workout...I was pleased to find it here @ Amazon.com!

When I started this workout I thought "Yeah right!" However after a few months of dedicated practice I mastered about 80% of the poses. I'm still being challenged by it. I usually do these yoga practices AFTER and intense cardio session when my muscles are warm and there's no food in my tummy. Have plenty of water handy and PACE YOURSELF! Don't do anything you are not ready to do.

If you like a challenge try Yoga for Feeling Stronger Everyday. Starring: Marlon Braccia.』

(My first Yoga DVD)
『Watching Patricia Walden in the amazing introduction gave me goosebumps. I was a little scared that she was going to make me try it with her. This was a gift to me from a friend. I was very hesitant to even try Yoga, because of my Christian background. My friend sent two DVDs on Yoga to me because of my horrible battle with degenerative arthritis. She said that it would help, and it has.

I found that Patricia Walden was very pleasant. The sessions were not easy. The fact that I have been working out for many years made it a little easier for me, but I still had a week of very sore muscles. I thought I was flexible, until I saw Patricia. The advise I give anyone who is new to working out is that you need to respect and honor your limitations. I love to feel the sensation of going a little past my comfort zone, but I never will be able to do every move exactly like Patricia. I cannot put my bottom on my feet. My knee joint is not good, but I adjust my poses to honor my body. (Brian Krest said it this way, "There is no perfect pose. Just find a place of sensation and hang out with it". I personally have an easier time with the backbend session than the forward bend session. I found out that my hamstrings and hip flexors are tight.

This is a really good DVD. I don't use it as often as some of the newer ones, but I still do like it. It never makes me feel uncomfortable as far as my Christian convictions go.』

(Awesome)
『This tape has more depth than any other tape in this genre. Yes, it is challenging, but so is life.

However, I agree with the other reviewers that it is not for beginners; I would recommend it for the intermediate level student as well as the advanced.

The student simply needs to have some good body alignment and correct muscle usage before embarking on this quest.』

(Not for beginners!!!!)
『I am glad to see that the dvd is not touted as a beginners workout like the vhs was. I also really do not recommend practicing yoga without taking classes, if classes are not available to you then read as many books as you can on the subject particulary paying attention to alignment principles. You will eventually injure yourself if you do not fully understand how to do the asanas. Look for an Iyengar teacher as they are excellent in teaching alignment. Use this dvd as a complement to your classes.
This workout has two sections, forward bending and backbends, as they are complementary to each other. The forward bending workout is more attainable for beginners, and Patricia Walden provides excellent instruction. The backbending workout is more challenging and if you do not have sufficient strength it will be impossible. I would recommend doing bridge pose instead of upward bow until your strength is improved. Also Patricia instructs you to "step your feet in" Once you are up in upward bow to shorten the distance between hands and feet to intensify the backbend. This is pretty advanced and most people won't be able to do this. My yoga instructor has not taught us to do this yet as a lot of people in my class just have a hard time getting into the pose. So don't do this until you are totally comfortable in the original position!
Another reviewer said that the workout didn't provide enough warm-up before the difficult part and I like to do some sun salutations from Shiva Rea's excellent dvd Yoga Shakti before doing this workout. I still do build a lot of heat by really focusing on the preliminary poses in this dvd though.
I would give this dvd five stars, but because it is not stated as a more advanced workout and could be misleading, I gave it four. I really love this dvd, I believe I get the best workout in the shortest amount of time of any dvd I own. I love the instruction, and the length of time the poses are held. You really get acqainted with the asana! For me, this is the next best thing to my classes.』

『One of yoga's most powerful attributes is its focus on flexibility. Stretching and developing greater flexibility benefits both the mind and body in many ways. In Flexibility Yoga internationally renowned yoga teacher Patricia Walden guides a dynamic two-part yoga workout that can help you increase flexibility range of motion and overall well-being. With her easy-to-use instruction you learn simple yoga techniques to open the back calm and lengthen tense muscles and restore youthful flexibility in every part of the body. This gentle revitalizing yoga-stretch workout for beginners of any age or fitness level will help you feel more fluid and agile throughout every day while helping to prevent injury. Whether you're an athlete or just want to feel more flexible this yoga practice will improve your quality of life.System Requirements:Running Time 85 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: HEALTH/FITNESS UPC: 029956011809 Manufacturer No: 120-1304』
Yoga Journal's more advanced offering of yoga stretching exercises presents two routines for flexibility: back stretches and front stretches. Each routine begins with a short warm up, though if one is not already well practiced in yoga stretching techniques, not to mention already flexible, some of these stretches should not be attempted. Even the so-called "moderate" poses for those with less strength and flexibility are difficult to achieve. Patricia Walden encourages the viewer to practice often and work toward the stretching goals, and conscientiously demonstrates the stretches in a methodical manner. The principles of balance and strength in all parts of the body (achieved by practicing both front and back stretches) is a lofty goal for many, but one to work toward in small increments. The two distinct routines in this video are conveniently presented separately so that they can be combined or practiced alternately. (If you're not already on your way to yogic flexibility, in the beginning you may be sitting out a good part of this video.) The production value, like the otherYoga Journalofferings, is consistently good and even. Certain stretches require props such as yoga blocks, but chairs and phone books are a good substitute for the home user.--Gilia Angell

(Just okay...)
『I had heard so much about Jivamukti! I really liked the book, and I was excitedly awaiting this video. I thought it started off with a bang and was great for about the first 10 minutes. After which, the poses were not that imaginative and I noticed that the sequencing was slightly off (ie; the verbal instruction did not match the movement). I didn't feel like I got a great yogic workout after this video. The song during Savasana was a totally cheesy instrumental bad folk song. I think this dvd is not worth the asking price. If you get it, buy it used...』

(SO COOL!!!)
『David and Sharron have been such a HUGE inspiration to me as a teacher and as a student! I LOVE this dvd. Not just because of the wonderful instruction, but it is so COOL! They have the musicians right there in the room with them. And the studio looks like a great loft right out of New York! They are are an amazing pair. I have no clue how old they are now, but I know they've been around a very long time and they STILL have such an amazing practice and wonderful spirit! You've also got to check out their practice with Michael Franti (an amazing artist!). TAMARA'S YOGA FUSION』

(Transform Yourself with Jivamukti Yoga)
『David Life and Sharon Gannon are true Masters of Yoga. This is the first video I have seen that the couple have not produced themselves through their Jivamukti ownership. It is a bit shorter than their usual CD/DVD's and a little less vigorous, but offers enough challenge for all levels. The ambiance is beautiful with kirtan players, wooden spiralling pillars draped in soft cloth, soft moving camera work and an option to have Sharon or David direct the asanas. I liked the home-grown feel of their first series, complete with cat siddi appearances, but this DVD is also inspiring and uplifting and, as usual, sends a message of Yoga that goes far beyond the mat. Shanthi.』

(nice change of pace)
『I greatly enjoyed practicing to this DVD because - unlike a lot of videos made by the beach, or on rocks, or on what look like desert islands or the moon (Shiva Rea's), this one had a very real sense of being in a live yoga classroom, such as one would find at Kripalu Institute (with the wonderful musicians). For those who find the music annoying, I believe there are music choices available. The poses are done slowly, and with beauty - David does the more challenging version, Sharon the more beginner or intermediate. It is not a difficult program if you are already familiar with the poses and terms. I was also caught up short a bit with the cowboy song during shavasana (and I think that - for a commercial DVD they should have chosen something more vanilla) but I let myself go into it&had a great time feeling that I was settling down by a fire on the trail out West, with a tin mug of warm drink, under the stars, with the cattle&horses all settled in the night. By keeping an open mind, I ended up being delighted. THis might have been someone's idea of a Krishna like life surprise!』

(Beware of the song during savasana!)
『I don't understand why, during savasana, the soundtrack includes a guy strumming an acoustic guitar and singing a song containing rather vapid lyrics. I find it completely disruptive. All the rest of this practice is accompanied by instrumental music played on Indian classical instruments, with NO SINGING, and it works fine as a backdrop to the instruction. Why introduce some folky singer-songwriter at the end, when it's necessary to "pacify the sense organs?" The whiney singing does absolutely the opposite for me. And yes, I could just mute the television, but there are cues from the instructors that happen afterwards, and it would be counterproductive to keep my eye on the clock (DURING SAVASANA) to know when the song is over and it's safe to un-mute the TV. I think it's a poor choice of music for that part of the practice, and if I'd read about that in a review beforehand, I definitely would not have put it on my xmas wishlist!』

『As a long time student of Taoism, Chi-Kung, and yoga, I was very interested in this DVD. This being my first Paul Grilley exposure, I was skeptial. I found that he is very knowledgeble and is a very good teacher as he breaks complex concepts down to easily understandable bits. The DVD is well done, professional and is an excellent purchase for the serious student of the energy arts. At the end he ties in the Charakas with the qigong meridians. I learned a great deal from this video and would have had to read quite a few books to gleen this much kowledge in just 4 hours with the DVD.』

(Well done, Paul Grilley)
『I was curious as to how Paul Grilley would handle this subject, wondering if it would be as matter of fact as his others. It is well done, and he does use the familiar, down-to-earth, matter of fact manner. Very nicely done.

As he works through the theory it got more difficult for me, so I watched it by sub-section at a time. That worked like a charm, and the information 'stuck' with me. It's a great introduction to Chakra Theory and Meditation indeed.』

(Outstanding)
『I just received today and have watched the entire DVD! Paul Grilley presents the Chakra theory clearly and his presentation, as usual, is great. I highly recommend to anyone searching for more information on chakras and meditation.』
『Join internationally acclaimed yoga teacher and scholar Paul Grilley for an extraordinary presentation on the chakras and the yogic path of the spirit. Never before has this knowledge and these priceless practices been presented with such clarity, brilliance and accessibility. This DVD is destined to become a seminal guide to spiritual development. Along with nearly 4 hours of in-depth theoretical presentation of these concepts, Paul offers specific physical and energetic practices to develop awareness of the chakras, and describes the karma that is associated with each one. This is followed by meditation techniques that aspiring yogis may use to purify the karma that operates through each chakra, achieving a deeper understanding and appreciation for the powerful role these elements play in our lives.』

(Depends on what you're looking for...)
『I exercise regularly and eat a pretty healthy diet (85% vegan with occasional dairy), I'm a 37-year-old mother, and I'm fighting the battle of the bulge. I got this because it was only a 30-minute workout, which is something I can squeeze into my schedule. This workout moves pretty fast and it took me a couple of times to get the actual moves. You have to have some aerobic experience to pick up on the routine and the form. There are moderate levels of intensity, which the instructor demonstrates and you can follow other exercisers behind her. I never really got to mastering the video because I sort of gave up, opting for simpler routines.

It depends on what you're looking for and what type of exercise you enjoy. If I don't enjoy it and look forward to it, I won't continue to do it. I struggled with this a little and I also felt it was too 'young' for me. I'm not looking for a 'hard-core' body. I just wanted some variety. I still pull this out once or twice a month for a change in my routine.

I was sore after each time I did this. I got the 4-pound ball and found it challenging enough for me. It was great for getting my heart rate up, and I still use the ball in other routines. I really felt muscle soreness in my thighs and shoulders, and it was strenuous on my back, but you can avoid back strain if you maintain proper spinal alingment (with the butt tucked and squeezed.)

I gave this a 3 only because it isn't a workout that I look forward to doing and, to be honest, it's difficult in that it's probably geard toward someone at a higher fitness level than me, or perhaps someone used to going to aerobic classes. My primary exercise all summer was walking/jogging with a jogging stroller at intervals, about 3 to 5 miles a day 5 days a week. The workout in and of itself would probably be a great workout if you're looking for an advanced workout at a higher intensity. It probably isn't for a beginner.』

(Good quick workout!)
『This is a good workout for when you are crunched for time. It's not exactly for beginners. I consider myself to be in pretty good shape, and it still made me sore. I'll keep using this DVD for sure!』

(The Firm Sculpting Ball 6lb workout)
『I own the 6lb ball, and let me tell you-I've been working out with The Firm videos since 1996! And it just dawned on me that this is the ONLY ball workout ever made??? LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this workout!! It's EASY to follow, goes very SMOOTHLY, doesn't make you drastically weak-but for me as an advanced excerciser-this was challanging (next I'll have to get the 8lb one). The ball is really so much fun to use!!! It's rather VERY affective. And because I am known to love weights more than cardio-I could do this workout everyday!! Another thing I just love is that she uses the ball continuously-you don't ever put it down-in which I was glad because I felt 30 min is too short to not be able to use the ball. I didn't think you could use a 6lb ball for cardio-but it makes it so much fun! My ONLY complaint about this workout is that I wish there was so many more them and that the Firm can make more workouts using the 4, 6, or 8lb ball. I hope that's not the last one I see from them-LOVE this workout! If you watch the video-you may think, "ohh its so low impact"..but when you actually do it with the heavier poundage (6 or 8)-it is challanging-and I feel sore the next day!! yeah! A++++++++++++++++++++』

(just right)
『I actually now have 4, 6, and 8 pound sculpting balls. The 6 pound is just right for most workouts. Sometimes the 8 pound is a good challenge, but often it makes my technique not as good. The workout dvd the ball comes with is doable with the 8 pound ball if you are an intermediate to advanced exerciser. But there are better ball workouts available, like David Kirsch's Ultimate New York Body Plan, that the 6 pound ball works better for. Great Firm product for great price. Adds a fun dimension to exercising. Get one, you'll be looking for more workouts to do with it just like I am!』

(Love that it's quick, not so crazy about holding the ball for so long)
『Ok, here's the deal. I really like that it is only 30 minutes, so it is great to do with my 2 year old son next to me and also for days you don't have 45 minutes - an hour to devote to working out.
I like the concept of using a ball and it is not your typical hand weight workout. It sounded interesting so I gave it a try.
It is ok, I will say that. For me, it gets really old holding the ball. I got the medium weighted one, the 6 pounder. It just feels very awkward and heavy holding the ball in my hands for that long. There are hardly any breaks when you are NOT holding it, so it really gets annoying. Maybe it would be fine for people with bigger hands that can get a good grip on the ball, but not me.

I still do this tape, mind you. It is not so bad that I refuse to do the tape. I still love that it is 30 minutes and you do feel it in your arms for sure. If you don't mind dealing with a tiny bit of awkwardness by the end, no problem! You may not even notice the hand thing as I do. It may feel completely fine.

I like the instructor and I like the other people in the tape, too, if that matters to anyone.』

『The Firm Sculpting Ball is a great add-on tool to enhance your regular exercise routine. The soft, pliable ball is easy to grip and a safe and simple alternative to clunky and unruly dumbbells. Each Sculpting Ball package comes with a thirty-minute video to get you started on your home workouts. Color-coded by weight, this pink ball weighs four pounds.

About The Firm
It all began in 1979 when The Firm Studio opened in South Carolina. By combining cardio and weight training, The Firm recognized that people could burn fat, build muscle, and get the bodies they wanted safely, effectively, and quickly. This cardio-plus-body-sculpting fitness hybrid--called Synergy Training--formed the basis for The Firm method then and is still central to The Firm philosophy today. It didn't take long for fitness enthusiasts to catch on, and The Firm was off and running.

When The Firm decided to share their successful method with people who were unable to travel to the Studio, the at-home workout series was born. The Firm received glowing reviews and top professional awards from the very start. Since then, The Firm has sold more than ten million workouts. Today, The Firm mission is to continue researching and creating superior fitness techniques and products for reshaping and toning the body.

『For years I've been searching for Yoga Art that is both decorative and depicts the postures in ways that honor and respect the forms of classic asana. I originally stumbled onto this collection while doing research on the physical postures. Surfing the web with the key words "inverted staff pose", I came to the website of The Chicago Yoga Center. They had asked one of their yoga instructors, accomplished artist Nancy Van Kanegan, to provide illustrations for the postures on their site. Immediately, I knew this was the work I had been hoping to find.Nancy tells me that she originally came to yoga by way of studying art. She says that, "As art functions to integrate the various aspects of culture, so yoga integrates the diversity of the human being, "yoking" the physical, mental and spiritual self." Both art and yoga, according to Nancy, " are concerned with accessing inner intelligences that are not often recognized by our modern world. In each teaching situation, a sense of delight fills the space, as this discovery happens. The impressions, sensations and images I absorb, while teaching, continue to feed my artistic projects."And now they can feed us too. Each print is on acid free, 100 pound cover stock and should retain it's beauty for many years.』

(A Review by Jim Brenholts)
『"Morning in the Forest" is another remarkable CD in the "Tranquility Series" from Suzanne Doucet and Chuck Plaisance. This disc is perfect for relaxation or for curling up with a good book. With discs of this type, the sound design is critical. Suzanne and Chuck have demonstrated -- repeatedly -- that they are at or near the top in that respect. This is, again, an essential among essentials! ~
