IPhone 3G used's review (Good design; perplexing directions) 『I am posting this review after helping a friend with this pattern. It is a well-drafted, well-written pattern. I do think, however, that the directions for cutting out the pattern are unnecessarily confusing. The pattern piece for the main pant tells you to "cut one piece printed side up, cut one piece printed side down." I'm not sure why the designer thought it necessary to add an extra step. All you need to do is fold the fabric right sides together and cut out two pieces at once (as most patterns have you do). The added bonus is that you don't even need to move the pieces after cutting--the first step has you sew them just as they are.
It's not a huge deal, of course, but I think for a beginning sewer (who I do believe is the target audience) this could be unnecessarily confusing.』
(Love these pants!!) 『This is a wonderful pattern. So easy to make since the instructions are wonderful and easy to follow! I have made so many of these for my boys and will make more as gifts for the holidays and upcoming birthdays!』
(The cutest baby pants!!) 『This pattern is so easy to sew and makes the cutest pants for babies and toddlers! Easy to follow instructions and I like the fact that the pattern is not printed on filmy paper that most commercial patterns are on. It's on regular paper like a Kwik Sew pattern so it is easy to trace each size and not worry about tearing the original. These pants look so cute on my toddler--everyone comments on them!』
(CMYP are Perfect!) 『This pattern is expertly drafted and the directions are very easy to follow! The optional crescent moon booty allows ample room for cloth diapers and serves as an excellent canvas for embellishment. The fitting is straight forward and the pattern lends itself to simple modifications (from lean and lanky to chubby monkey bellies). A wonderful wardrobe staple for any tot!』
(GREAT Pattern!!!) 『I would have given it 10 stars... but that wasn't an option! I just LOVE this pattern! I just can't say enough about it! I am sure that anyone who tries it out will love it. My little princess has several pairs with the booty for over her cloth diapers! The pants are super duper cute and very versatile and can be worn for going out, or for bed time!』 『Crescent Moon Yoga Pant can be sewn entirely on a regular sewing machine, or with a serger, instructions for both are included.』

It starts with an invocative chant to honor the source and follows with a lot of rootsy Hindi music which follows the sequence of your yoga flow. The third track is a delight. It sounds like a village of children singing their hearts out in a very upbeat heartlifting joyful song. Jai Utall is featured in the backbend portion. The second to last song is piano with what sounds like an old yogi softly speaking and the last song is a Hindi woman sounding a namaskara chant. The last two tracks are very raw and for some may seem wierd at first but relax and let go. Let it take you to a quiet place. Peace to you, me and this crazy world.』
(Wow) 『My current yoga cd's are boring compared to this one. The first time I played it in class, just about all of my students made positive comments. It's hot!!』

(Very good, But ...) 『The instrumental music is fantastic, Jai Uttal's chanting really detracts from the album. It's as if it doesnt really fit into the music. If one could edit the annoying chanting off it would be a 5 star album.』
(Hypnotic, sensual, seamless, mesmerizing) 『I purchased this CD after searching high and low for music to listen to while practicing yoga. I recognized this music instantly upon sampling it on Amazon as works that a favorite yoga teacher of mine has used in the past. Each piece is very distinctive which is why I recognized it.
I like many things about this album. First, the pieces are generally long, particularly the first piece. This is nice when meditating or doing flow yoga. Secondly, while they do mesmerize and have a low bass beat, there are transitions within each song that are so brilliantly and seamlessly done that it is almost like having two or three melodies in one piece along with different soothing chanting. As a result, the pieces do not ramble given their length; rather, they lengthen out, change, and evolve while still keeping a steady recognizable beat.
A great album for chilling out, doing yoga, yin or flow.』
(Beautiful album...) 『"Music for Yoga and Other Joys" is a beautiful album and I certainly recommend it, even if what follows seems like a somewhat mixed review.
First and foremost on this album is the music - a kind of jazzy, rock fusion, put in service to the chants. There is a patience in allowing themes and emotional ground to form. It is clearly a case where the journey is the important part, not some imagined destination. Anyway, the destination is the devotion embodied in these Hindu chants. If you submit to the journey, you will know the devotion throughout.
As one who chants vedas, as well as devotional chants, I found the Sanskrit, in spots, leaves something to be desired. Hindi-ization of Sanskrit is the frequent practice in many modern chant albums and it occurs to some degree in this album, as well. Additionally, the final piece, a series of sun salutations, loses some of its power due to the almost total swallowing of the OM which begins each salutation. This seems a pity, as the conception of the piece has the potential to be very focusing and humbling. I also had a great deal of trouble hearing the actual words clearly in this piece.
The voice of Jai Uttal and also of Nubia Teixeira in the last piece, "Surya," are excellent for these pieces. The instrumental work is both well crafted and, at the same time, creatively free to explore the meaning of each chant.
Again, this is a really beautiful album to listen to, even with the caveats above.』
(Relaxing music for yoga and/or meditation) 『I've really enjoyed this CD. Initially I bought it for home practice of yoga, but I'm having a hard time practicing yoga by myself (and without a DVD). However, I very much enjoy this CD just in my every day activities. It is a great way to wake up in the morning, instead of listening to the news and making yourself sad about the day's events. It is also good for just hanging around the house, reading, or to relax yourself in the evening. I like to put on my lavender eye pillow and listen to relax at night! Anyhoo, kudos to the musicians and arrangers.』 『Music for yoga is such a cliché that you could slap that moniker on a Barry Manilow CD and have it sold as a soundtrack for Downward Facing Dog pose. Yoga music has become a made-to-order commodity, and rarely attains the level of art. The titleMusic for Yoga and Other Joysdoesn't bode well, but then, it has Jai Uttal, a veteran of world fusion going back 15 years and a devotee of kirtan singing teaming up with multi-instrumentalist Ben Leinbach for a series of extended improvisations. Leinbach creates a shifting back drop of chilled, Indian-derived grooves and textures like liquid mercury dipped in a fractal swirl. It's a perfect modal backdrop for Uttal, who improvises freely on an Indian stringed instrument called the dotar, electric guitar, and even banjo. Pieces like the 26-minute "Govinda" extend in a free fall until a rhythm loop drops in. Uttal swaps to a fuzzed out electric guitar solo that eventually merges into an improvised kirtan, his voice coiling in note-bending spirals like soul singing from the east. This may be music for yoga, but it's the other joys that will keep you coming back. --John Diliberto』 『Jai Uttalpremier world music composer and 2003 Grammy® nomineeoffers a moving mix of melody, rhythms, and chants with Music for Yoga and Other Joys. Known for his eclectic blend of East-meets-West sound, Jai offers listeners his first album created especially for yoga practice. More than 60 minutes of sensual music featuring dotar, electric guitar, and slide tamboura, all complemented by Jai's full, golden-toned voice. Produced in collaboration with Ben Leinbach. Also an excellent choice for meditating, gardening, driving, and bodywork.』

(Great for relaxation, a few selections work for yoga.) 『This is a very good CD for relaxation and chilling out at home after a long day at the office. All 7 of the recording artists who perform the 12 selections on the CD are in top form and the music varies from chants or flute solo, to synthesized space music. However, I don't think it is the right CD for meditative yoga. For example, Randy Armstrong's two selections were a bit too influenced by jazz and improvisation and this made them less appropriate for quite meditation. I found 5 selections that would work for meditative yoga practice but many of the others were a bit too vocal or too jazzy to enduce meditation and quiet. The five selections I think were right for meditation were Air Oil by Peas, Opening and Devotion by Stephen DeRuby and Plant and Misty by Kitaro.』

IPhone 3G used's review (Awful) 『This moved way too fast for a beginner who knows virtually nothing about yoga. I completely disagree with another reviewer who said the instructor took time to fully explain the poses. Using the warrior pose as an example, I heard nothing about the correct positioning of the feet and would have done it wrong if it hadn't been for ALan Finger explaining the form correctly on another DVD.
Strangely, the woman who was doing the more advanced version of the exercises appeared...failing a politically correct way to say this and coming from someone who does NOT enjoy looking at supermodels in a workout, heavy-set and undefined enough to make me take notice, - an oddly unmotivating choice for a DVD supposedly focused on weight loss. Other issues - there was a great deal of bending forward which I found completely unsuitable for a bad back.
I fast forwarded to the bonus section which, though I haven't tried yet, seemed like it should have come first.
I also have YogaZone's Beginning Yoga DVD by Alan Finger, which is vastly superior to this.』
(great for not so limber people) 『I like this video because is shows the right way to do a pose then the modified say to do a pose. It is easy and there is only 2 people to watch doing the poses and a man talking. I would reccomend this DVD to beginners.』
(Don't do this video if you have bad knees!) 『I LOVE Yoga Zone videos, and I own many. I do NOT like this video. It was one of the first that I bought 4 or 5 years ago, when I first began yoga practice. It hurt me, and I thought that I just wasn't strong enough, so I set it aside until I got stronger. Well, I got better at all of my other videos, except for this one. I truly believe that there is not enough warmup for someone whose knees are not really strong. It hurts the entire time I am doing the video, and then my knees ache for days afterward. I also do not like the repetition of a few poses over... and over... and OVER... then it ends! And there is very little emphasis on the midsection (belly!), which I think most people interested in weight loss are usually very concerned about. This workout is mostly for your trunk.
If you want a good all-over conditioning video (really challenging, but not too hard for beginners), try Yoga Zone's Flexibility and Stress Release. The meditation at the end is fantastic, too.
That said, I must clarify that I do like the 20 minute bonus session on this Weight Loss video. It is short and thorough, and not stressful to any part of my body.』
(basic but challenging!) 『This was my second DVD following Suzanne Deason's Yoga Conditioning for Weightloss, which was a great place to start. I wanted a little more and am glad I found this one. It is challenging for a beginner but very accessible and it is really fun to see what you used to think impossible, very do-able after a couple weeks. The chair and plank poses used to kill me but now I find I look forward to them. Seems the thigh muscles and abs are quick to improve, which is very rewarding in itself! I have come to really enjoy Al Bingham's very encouraging and thorough style. I even look forward to his words near the end of the video "you've done a great job today...really, really good..." Completing this workout, I feel like I have indeed and like to hear someone appreciating it!
The length is just right for me, with a good warm up, nice cool down and challenging center, coming in at about 30 minutes. There is also the bonus 20 minute session which nicely explains basic alignment and ways to challenge yourself as you grow stronger.
I've got a fairly extensive library of videos now and I still find myself reaching for this one, both to make sure I can still do it, the length is right and because I simply enjoy it!』
(YOU CAN DO YOGA!) 『I had this on VHS&it quickly became my favorite Yoga Workout. So I was happy to see it on DVD. I love the people at Yoga Zone&of the male instructors I particularly like Al Bingham. Why? He is encouraging ("You CAN do Yoga! Even if you can't bend forward to touch your toes, you CAN do Yoga.")&very detailed in his instructions. Let's face it, when you're alone in your living room, there is no one there to tell you if you are doing it properly. Al shows you-through his female assistant(s) (In this case, Lisa Bennett Madken, Jean Kerner&Laura Sedome) how NOT to perform each pose&why. There are two sessions-a regular session&a Bonus session. I especially like the Bonus Session. It isn't too terribly taxing, but it is effective. Yoga, in general, stretches you in such a way that makes your blood feel energized. There are no special props, but a Yoga Mat is definitely recommended to avoid slipping. At the end, you do feel heated. Al explains the way this heat can actually help to burn calories. I believe that Yoga is a Holistic form of exercise, taking in Mind as well as Body&teaching us to be mindful of our whole self as Spiritual Beings. In this way we can lose weight&live a healthier lifestyle. I also love the Jamaican beach settings Yoga Zone uses.

IPhone 3G used's review (Good toning workout) 『This workout is execllent for toning. If a person is trying to lose weight, I would recommend to combine it with aerobics and weight training exercises. One important thing to keep in mind is that this dvd is not for beginners or people who are new to yoga. Sarah Ivanhoe is one of my favorite instructer, and her cueing is perfect. After sometime you don't need to look at the tv screen..』
(You will sweat and still feel relaxed!) 『Its a very good video to follow and has enough exercises. The instructions are easy and you can follow without looking at the video. Along with the main instructor there is an additional instructor who does the workout in a less strenuous manner.
Just do this 40 minute workout everyday and you will see results quickly.
I would recommend it strongly! Thank you Sarah Ivanhoe!』
(Not what I expected) 『I have been a fat, fat person. But through walking and eating right, I have lost over a hundred pounds, but still, I was needing flexibility and conditioning. I was afraid to try a fat burning video for fear I could not keep up. I rented the Candlelight Yoga video from Netflix and loved it. I bought this video too, but was still intimidated, maybe I could not do it. I finally tried it and love it. The pace is just right. The poses are not impossible, in fact they incorporate options for any person's conditioning level. And the music is nice. There is no religious aspect to this video, and I like that. This one is one I will enjoy for a long time. You can check out my progress at http://just-a-mom-thats-more-than-enough.blogspot.com/』
(OK workout for the casual user) 『I have used this video many times over the 6 years that I've owned it and, while I will agree with the reviewers that state this is not a pure yoga practice, it is a decent workout for beginners or those of us that may not be as focused on technical correctness. While I do tend to vary widely in my own fitness level, for the most part even at the times that I'm most out of shape, it is do-able. Yes, the instructor does chatter on a bit, but that seems a positive to me as well--it helps me make sure my form is correct.
Having said that, it is definitely not a spirit-renewing sort of practice. At completion, I feel that I've done a decent job of moving my body, but I do not feel trance-like as I would after a David Swenson practice.
I would consider it an intro for a person interested in beginning yoga...you will get an indication of what the poses are like physically, but you may not experience the delightful mental and emotional side-effects of a true yoga practice.
Lastly, Crunch videos are always of good quality--no distractions from poor sound or videography.』
(Good for Quick Workout) 『This is a good, quick workout if you're new to yoga or if you're not looking for a full yogic workout. This is more of an intro to vinyasa or for someone wanting a cardio workout without a lot of holding or flexibility practice. My heart rate was definitely up and I broke a bit of a sweat, but I'm spoiled by a typical 90 minute class with lots of poses and challenges. This a good "teaser" when you don't have time for a full 90 minute session.』 『Welcome to CRUNCH Fitness! Combine an ancient discipline with an ancient problem and what do you get? A current solution? Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Creepy) 『I watched for 10 minutes and I had to stop. They make you chant at the beginning as a part of the workout and it's really creepy. I was looking for a nice workout, not an introduction to a new religion.』
(Helpful exercises drowned in silliness) 『I was looking forward to a gentle challenge for my last month of pregnancy when I popped this video into the VCR (It was a hand-me-down tape from a friend). After losing my patience with the turban and muu-muu wearing instructor's long monologue that opens the tape I fast-forwarded until I saw the typical exercise-video setup.
This was the beginning of the end for me. I resisted completely turning off the tape but couldn't help laughing as I watched some of the overly-enthusiastic participants writhing around while the instructor croons "Your baaaaby loves to mooooove this waaaay." It made me feel ridiculous.
The reason I gave it two stars is that there are a few truly useful exercises that can be learned if you can ignore the instructor, participants, and music to get to them. If you're interested in trying this video, see if you can borrow it from the local library before you spend any money on it.』
(A very easy exercise) 『I was at my 16 weeks when I started to use this DVD. This is my first pregnancy. I enjoy exercising and before I got pregnant, I go to the gym at least once a week. I enjoy challenging lower-body toning exercises, bodycombat (high-cardio) classes, machine-weights to tone my upper body. I have done beginner to intermediate yoga classes and do not have a very flexible body. I now swim twice a week (20 minutes) and exercise to this DVD every other day.
The instructor is not pregnant in this video and looks very "zen-ish" with her head dress (a white turban looking thing). The video starts out with a 10-15 minute clip of her talking about how yoga is good for the mother and the baby.
During the next 5 minutes or so, she instructs the class to sit in an upright cross-legged position, with eyes closed and chant to a language I do not understand. Apparently, it means "I bow to the divine power in myself" or something to that effect. I find this section disturbing and do not like the sound of it at all, so I typically fast forward to the point where the lesson proper begins.
The class has a live band playing at the back of the room. Music is okay. The venue looks rather old-fashioned. However, lighting was okay. You will see some camera man moving behind the flowers and pillars once in a while. The women were dressed in big T-shirts and tights, others in full body suits. They have make-up on, and some look quite pretty and attractive. Nothing fanciful or appealing about the set, in general.
The next 30-minute section has very good exercises to help a pregnant woman stretch and relax her body. Gentle stretches and exercises that are only enough to get my heartbeat up by a little. However, even though the exercises are simple, I feel very good after at the end of it. I feel good to have stretched the thighs, arms, toes, calves, lower and upper back, neck, kegel muscle. All in all, if you are looking for a non-strenuous and gentle stretching exercise to help you to remain flexible and to relief stiff joints and aches, this would be the DVD. One thing to note, the instructor in this video emphasizes a lot on "feeling" the movements in the body and to release all inhibitions.
This is not the DVD if you are looking to tone those hips, butts and thighs and sweat it all out.
The video ends with another session of chanting (which I skip). Apparently, the words are supposed to heal and give you strength or something like that. And after that, we all lie down and close our eyes to relax, as with all yoga classes.
I am still waiting for two DVDs to arrive: 1) The Perfect Pregnancy Workout 2) Shiva Rea Prenatal Yoga』
(Great for labor prep) 『Kinda silly looking as I guess it's "look" is quite outdated now. But this video is wonderful. It's very gentle and easy but felt great when I was 7 months and beyond during my pregnancy. I feel it's focus is much more towards preparing and opening a woman's body for birth rather than a typical yoga workout.
Retrospectively, it was this video and all the yogic philosophy that goes along with it that allowed me to birth naturally.』
(Not What I Was Looking For in a Yoga DVD) 『I have been practicing yoga for over seven years now with a studio, through various classes, and using home DVDs when my schedule is hectic. I did a fair bit of reading about prenatal yoga once I found out we were pregnant, and I knew my body would be very happy to have the yoga continue to help my back and my poor sciatic wonky-hip pain. My yoga studio has a prenatal class, but the schedule does not work with mine so I thought I would get a DVD to supplement until I could make it to classes again.
This was not the right video for me. There was too much discussion, too much commentary, and not enough actual yoga going on for my taste. I did not appreciate this woman attempting to facilitate my relationship with my "bay-bay" (hug your bay-bay, dance with your bay-bay, your bay-bay loves it when you do this move, etc). I have my own special time 24/7 with this beeb in my belly, and I did not get this dvd to inform me of the fact that I'm supposed to hug and love my belly. I needed some quiet time (she never stops talking) with some gentle moves to keep my back happy, my body moving, and my mind at ease. This DVD is currently sitting by the door as I will not use it again.
I'm not sure why I didn't just go with the Gaiam dvd... it is now on order.』 『Relaxing, strengthening, and allowing oneself to feel rather than think have long been associated with ancient yoga practice. Instructor Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa expertly ties this essential combination of physical experiences together in a gentle exercise video for pregnant women of all fitness levels. Prior to the 45-minute routine, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa discusses the role of yoga in helping with pregnancy; the calm and security that develop through guided breathing and gentle movement are transferred from the mother's body to her growing baby. The nonimpact routine itself provides ample warm-up, toning, and conditioning portions, as well as a deep, head-to-toe relaxation and visualization segment. Ten pregnant students (all pleasantly unrehearsed) stretch, bend, and learn along with the viewer, to the peaceful sounds of a live band consisting of wood flute, bass, quiet drum, and shimmering bells. The "matrix" system allows for endlessly new practices. If one day I feel I need to do some forward bends, I'll throw them in, or if I want to work on shoulder stand, I simply select that portion! It's fantastic! If I'm feeling energetic, I simply love the "Dancing Warriors."
The setting is lovely, and the background music is PERFECT. This DVD changed the way I did yoga. As someone who has practiced with this DVD for over a year - I can say confidently, you WILL enjoy this practice.
I would call myself a beginner-intermediate, and I'm not sure if this would be good for a beginner. Although, Shiva does provide cues for modified poses through-out and there is a "Basic" level to follow for those not familiar with flow yoga.
I would give this DVD 10 stars if I could.』
(LOVE IT!) 『The other reviewer took the words right out of my mouth. The instructor is on a beach in India. You sweat your butt off to thee coolest music and sounds of ocean waves and rain. YOU WILL MOST CERTAINLY SWEAT! I am intermediate and she actually taught me QUITE A FWE new moves I have never seen before on my MANY MANY other yoga dvds! Yet at the same time it is not rushed and it's very soothing and relaxing! I LOVE IT! LOVE IT! I only paid eleven bucks. Best yoga dvd ever and I got it cheaply I am so thrilled. My new favorite!』
(Advanced beginners/intermediate practitioners) 『This DVD set was recommended by one of my yoga teachers, and I have had no regrets in making the purchase. I have a number of yoga DVDs to guide my practice at home, and I find myself going back to this DVD (as well as EVa Barash's Living Room Yoga) more often than others.
The practice DVD has 4 basic practices, but it also has a matrix that allows you to mix various segments to make your own practice sequence. It is difficult to get tired of the DVD because of this feature.
Whether you follow the set sequences in the DVD or make your own, your practice will be quiet, meditative, soothing, relaxing. This is primarily due to Shiva Rea's approach, soothing voice and choice of location, background music and asanas/poses. I love the meditation and the shavana (resting pose) segments. There is no rushing into anything. That said, the practices will make you work out a sweat!
The set also includes a "bonus" DVD containing an interview with Shiva Rea as well as other practitioners, additional (very useful and insightful) instructions and clips from India.
If you are a beginner, I will not recommend this until you have been practicing regularly for months. To the advanced beginners and intermediate practitioners who are looking for a suitable DVD, I highly recommend this. I give this 6 STARS!
