『I pop in the You Can Do Yoga DVD after one of Leslie Sansone's Walk DVDs, and I find that the yoga DVD is excellent for stretching after one of Leslie's walks. My flexibility has already begun improving after only two weeks, and I don't feel nearly as tight just after a walk. I'm also much more relaxed since I incorporated the yoga DVD in my exercise routine. Give the You Can Do Yoga DVD a try.』

(Okay yoga DVD from a great teacher)
『I am a big Leslie fan and feel that she can always make the exercises simple enough for everyone to participate. The DVD is divided into an introduction, showing the poses, some of them for an advanced beginner. There is no explanation of props as aids until later, introduced in the second half, true work out. The first half could have been left out for me. The second half is the actual session. Again, Leslie encourages work at your pace etc, but talks so much she does not cue you when to stop the pose, especially if you are twisted around and can't see the screen. The variety of poses are good though and I would do the second half to augment my own practice. Overall, a B- experience.』

(Simple but not easy enough)
『I'm a big fan of Leslie's WATP workouts so I had high hopes for this one too. Unfortunately, I didn't think this is one of her best. The music is strangely upbeat for a yoga workout and she misses a number of cues (and when you're twisted around, not looking at your tv that's a problem).

I am an inflexible person and new to yoga. There are VERY few modifications shown. She'll say something like, "If you can't reach, use a chair" but she never shows how to use the chair.

I'm sure that this is a decent starter workout, but I expected better from Ms. Sansone.』

『I have tried numerous yoga videos and this is the best one I have found so far. I suffer from Fibromyalgia and by no means am I flexible. This is the only video that didn't have me twisting into a pretzel and in pain the next day. Leslie includes a section where she explains all the poses (name and how to do it) and then another one for the entire routine (explaining modifications along the way). She is also easy and enjoyable to follow (no group of people with her) and I feel wonderful after doing the routine.』

(Not bad but NOT for beginners!)
『This video is NOT for beginners, it's been 3 days and my neck is still in pain from this video. It's been about 6 months since I've performed any yoga so I decided to round out my exercise/health by trying this tape.

I am of average weight and fitness, and have taken over 40 hours worth of hatha yoga through nightschool classes over the past 5 years and have never felt any pain during or after the classes. So I already have a pretty good understanding of all the poses within this video as I have done the majority of them before, however, the poses did not feel comfortable/relaxing, in this tape as I felt they were geared towards intermediates or advanced students, not beginners.

My neck muscles are extremely sore and I am just beginning to be able to bend my head forward and look slightly right and left again, but still with some pain 3 days later. I believe the problem lies in the instructor transitioning from pose to pose to quickly, especially since this misleadingly is aimed at beginners. She also did not give any tips, such as has always been done in the instructor-led beginner classes I have taken, such as "if this pose feels uncomfortable, you could try this modified pose", etc. I know it is up to me as well to listen to my own body, but because of the transitioning so fast I was focused on "keeping up". There needed to be more pauses and slow transitions if this is going to be for "beginners".

Had this tape been listed for intermediates or advanced, then I would give it a higher rating, but considering the pain it has caused (the reverse effect of it's goal to relax) I am giving it a low rating. I feel sorry for any people who have done this tape and have had no prior experience, as this tape will likely lead to them feeling they have done something wrong causing pain. The producers/marketers of this tape should take more care in appropriately labeling their products.』


(One of my all-time favorite yoga practices)
『PM Yoga is an excellent practice for winding down, relaxing, and stretching. It begins with a short focus on breathing, encouraging you to turn your attention inward "where it's quiet." The practice moves from a seated to a kneeling position (love the gate pose!) and also includes traditional standing poses such as a warrior and lunges. This is a great end-of-day workout, and at 24 minutes, it's also a nice quick practice to fit in anytime you need to relax. Patricia Walden provides very good voiceover instruction in a tone that is calm and relaxing. Finally, although this is a very doable program for beginners, all of the Yoga Journal videos assume some basic prior knowledge of the poses (using their Yoga Practice for Beginners video is a good place to start). Although I now consider myself to be at an intermediate level, I still really enjoy this video and use it often; highly recommended.』

(Keeping the body in balance)
『Paricia's tape will serve as a guide for those new to Hatha Yoga as taught in the Iyengar tradition. It is a video that teaches you to do the Yoga asanas (poses) correctly, keeping your body aligned properly. It encourages you to reclaim your vitality by correcting postural imperfections brought on by wrong living (computers, television and hours of sitting behind the wheel of automobiles). If you follow Patricia's guidance you will not only learn to do the poses correctly but will become more strong and flexible and begin to feel more energetic. The title, Living Yoga: P.M. Yoga for Beginners, is really the key to this video. It is an invitation to make room in your daily life for nurturing the body in a kind and loving way through Hatha Yoga. 『This is a quick 20-minute yoga workout. Great for those who have limited time to exercise! The relaxing music, narration, and beautiful scenery of California's Death Valley will calm your mind. While the challenging yoga routine will release tension in your muscles. Patricia Walden's yoga routine mainly consists of lunges and balancing poses focusing on stretching the legs and back muscles. Other yoga postures include child's pose, dog pose, proud warrior, and forward bends. The balancing poses are difficult and challenging, and I was struggling to maintain my balance. But I feel energized and more relaxed after I complete this routine.

My only COMPLAINT with this video is that she does not hold the poses very long for a thorough stretch and the routine seems a bit rushed. In a yoga class, you would normally hold a pose for 2-3 minutes. However, this video is advertised as a brief yoga workout. If you want to simulate or replace yoga class with a video, this is NO replacement. However, it is a great video for people with hectic lives because it is easier to make the time for a 20-minute video versus a 50-minute video.

DISCLAIMER: After reading a few other reviews, I think there is some confusion about what a "beginners" video should entail. If you are excessively overweight, obese, or have any serious health problems--you should consult your doctor before beginning any new exercise regime. Even though this tape says for "beginners" on the box, your health will determine your ability to complete any fitness program. Please be advised that blocks are recommended if you are not flexible, and this video adequately demonstrates alternative poses with the use of blocks.

Moreover, the routine is challenging and easy to integrate into my daily schedule. After three weeks of practicing this routine, I want to continue exercising after I complete this video. For me, P.M Yoga was the perfect starting-place!!』

『I have been doing yoga regularly and I am not very happy with this cassette. As pointed out by the other reviews the poses are few and they are not held for long or it moves too slowly. I was particularly disappointed with the sun salutations as I felt they were not repeated enough.This might be good for beginners and people who have already practiced yoga may want to go for something more intense.』

(What is different)
『is the fact that a good, long portion of this tape involves breathing before the beginning of asana, and a lengthy relaxation period at the end. Most yoga that one finds on video/dvd these days really neglects these vital aspects. I very much appreciate sitting in meditation, practicing deep breathing before beginning asana, and the lengthy rest in corpse pose is wonderful. The asana portion is manageable for anyone in decent shape, with some yoga experience. Not for a true beginner. For that try Total Yoga Earth.』

(Good vinyasa yoga)
『This hatha vinyasa practice will make a yoga novice sweat more. The warm-up consists of different sets of sun salutations that stretch and wake up the body before engaging in continuous standing and sitting poses. The approach is clinical and straightforward with full focus on the physical instructions. Unlike Alan Finger's videos, there is no constant reminder that the student should not exert beyond what s/he can do. It is assumed from the start that the viewer will not push her/himself beyond what s/he can. However, Tracey Rich and Ganga White provide options to both the flexible and not-so-flexible. As the video title states, this is a flow of postures that awaken the body, resulting to more refreshed and strengthened muscles all over. The savasana portion is also great; the video allows for around ten minutes of entire relaxation with only the soothing background music accompanying it. If you're a beginner looking for a mid-level hatha yoga practice, this is good.』

(Flowing, Balanced, Perfection !!!!!)
『This is my second review of this wonderful program. Now that I've gotten to live with it for a while I have even more appreciation for just how incredible it is!

After 7 years of daily practice, with Yoga video/DVD programs being an integral part of my home practice (I also take weekly classes), I have more gratitude than ever for the level of quality Tracy Rich and Ganga White provide here.

The Flow series as a set is one of the best and most complete series out there. As a 44 year old man who has sustained many back and neck injuries over the years, I find that the"Earth"and"Water"programs in particular have a truly healing affect on my body (as well as my mind and spirit).

They are both in-depth practices without being exhausting, and I feel energized and light when I do either of these programs.

The"Fire"program is also excellent but not one I can do often because of its length and intensity. If you want something really challenging give that one a try. I reserve that program for those days when I want to really push myself! :)

In both the"Earth"and"Water"series, all of the poses should be possible by anyone in reasonably good health (remember that you can modify any pose, so being able to achieve a so called"perfect"form is not the goal here or any true Yoga practice).

There are no poses that require"Gumby-like"flexibility or superhuman feats of strength or balance. Even a challenging pose like"Warrior 3"(one of the more challenging poses on the"Water"tape), can be modified to work with your individual body and/or level of experience.

For example, Two ways you can modify"Warrior 3"are by placing your arms by your sides (palms against the outside of your thighs), or by bringing you arms out like airplane wings ( which makes it considerably easier to balance) rather than straight out in front of you (which you can work up to eventually.... or not, you still get the same benefits:) ).

The reason I grouped the"Earth"and"Water"programs together here is that the"Water"program is basically the"Earth"program with the addition of more poses (many of which are a bit on the more challenging side without being too advanced by any means).

I would suggest using the"Earth"program if you are a beginner, or a more advanced student who is in need of a more gentle practice. The extra poses (as well as full Sun Salutation"A"series) makes the"Water"program more of an intermediate practice than"Earth".

The programs flow at a pace that keeps you moving without feeling rushed. The sequencing is absolute perfection and each pose builds into the next safely and effectively.

『I was looking for something a little more intense, however, this is a perfect beginners workout. In fact, there are a few poses that were difficult for me as I am fairly new in the yoga experience. This artist is extremely knowledgeable and a good choice for those of us who are beginners or past the "spring chicken" phase of life. 『Great video. I first discovered the video at my library but it's great as a reintroduction after a few weeks off and as a variation to maintaining my practice when I'm consistent.

I do think Baron could do a better job with holding sides for the equal amount of time which doesn't always happen, but that's what the pause button is for.

『In order to understand this set, one must know the origins of how Baron Baptiste developed this classic hatha/power yoga fusion. There is no randomness in this sequence. Realize, Baron studied under Bikram Choudhury, the man who has set up "hot yoga" centers across America. The exact sequence of 26 poses Bikram uses came from his teacher, Bishnu Ghosh, the younger brother of Paramahausa Yogananda (author of "Autobiography of a Yogi"). In classic hatha yoga, there is a theory of perfecting the diamond body in order to perfect the clarity of the mind. What Baptiste did was take the Bikram system and link it to vinyasa in order to give it fluidity. In the Bikram system there is an emphasis on will, focus, and concentration which occurs through the mastering of the single leg standing poses. There is also a theory that these poses should be done twice to be effective. Baptiste precedes this sequence with three A salutations and four B (using a crescent lunge) to generate strength and heat before the classic hot yoga set begins. He also modifies the sitting poses by adding crunches and wheel. Somehow he knows intuitively how to pace a workout. Whereas his "Long and Lean" or "Journey into Power" DVD's are slower, more suited to power yoga poses, this tape moves quickly to fuse an aerobic quality to an emphasis on pure concentration and focus. What is amazing about this workout are the results. My endurance and ability to handle all or any daily pressure or activity is amazingly increased. Instead of merely pumping the body with hard lunge combinations or anti-gravity poses, strength is being simultaneously enhanced while the mind must focus on balance and maintaining proper form. Bikram understood the power of this in his set, but only Baron Baptiste evolved this principle with the fluidity of the Astanga style vinyasa to make this the most unique and significant DVD money can buy. Aesthetics aside, this is truly a magical sequence.』

『I am a personal trainer and owner of a fitness studio who has tried many yoga classes and dvd's, and I love Baron Baptiste's style of teaching more than any class or dvd I have tried. This is definitely not a beginner level workout, and it's not going to give you the "new age zen yoga experience" that many do. But if you are a "type A" exerciser like myself and many of my clients, and you love a hard workout that makes you sweat, such as kickboxing, running, or weight training, Baron's style will appeal to you more than other teacher's styles. Yes, he does talk thru the video, however, he is giving excellent form and cueing advice that is necessary to achieving correct alignment and form. I recently purchased a yoga video by Shiva Rea, who came highly recommended to me by several yoga instructors, and was quite disappointed, as I felt the workout wasn't quite athletic enough and too "zen" for me and she did not give enough instruction and moved thru the posed quickly. Baron's workout level 2 and level 3, which is the primary series of ashtanga yoga, move at a good pace, are challenging, but do not include arm balances and several of the more difficult poses that one finds in an ashtanga workout. Beryl Bender Birch, for example, has a wonderful ashtanga power yoga dvd, but it moves at a fast pace, without as much instruction, and includes very challenging arm balances and headstands, which are definitely for the advanced yoga practitioner. This is a great workout for those who have done beginning yoga and are looking for a great stretch, and the next step in power yoga. I use power level 2 as a workout on my off days from running and weight training, as it provides a great stretch for my muscles and joints.』

(Outstanding Yoga Training for Athletes&Not Really Annoying)
『I must respectfully disagree with the other reviewers about the impact of the music and Baron's teaching and cuing on this disc. The music is a little cheesy as indicated, particularly at the beginning and end of the session but the routine itself is excellent. The music during the session doesn't bother me at all. It should also be said that men usually do Yoga without a shirt, so it's not as if Baron is showing off by walking around in his white cotton shorts (nor does he wear a speedo or spandex shorts like David Swenson does). It is also important to note that Baron's"chattering"is essential to the quality of the session, since he instructs on the details of the pose, reminds and cues you to breathe, and tries to bring you back to your original intentions in doing the class (relaxation, calming the mind, etc.). Without the cuing, it would be harder to do the poses correctly, easier to forget to breathe deeply and fluidly, and easier to get tense and agitated during a challenging workout. I think the cuing is just fine, and continues to be useful for intermediate students.
The routine itself is the most challenging of all Baron's video presentations, and presents one of the very best video sessions available to those who are seeking the power yoga experience to develop strength, balance, cardiovascular capacity, flexibility and calmness in a single workout. Some of the poses have been changed slightly to focus more on areas of stiffness or weakness common to traditional athletes, and the routine includes several other balance and strength exercises or poses not usually found in yoga routines. It also seems that those poses which place more stress on the joints have been changed or left out to make the session more appropriate for practicing athletes. If you are a conditioned athlete, an intermediate yoga student, or anyone else looking the power yoga experience, this is a great session for you. It includes excellent strength work, hip opening, balancing poses, joint stabilizing and strengthening, abdominal work and breathing exercises. This disc is the one that should be called"Power Yoga for Athletic Performance".』

『I am an advanced beginner and just love yoga. I borrowed this from a friend and I thought it was great! It was a bit over an hour, it allowed me to push myself to the edge, and most importantly, covered a lot of poses that will help me to the next level. My weaknesses are the standing balancing poses and I was very glad to see a segement on this. Yes, I would much rather watch him doing it rather than the students, but I did find his talking actually helped me with proper form and to maintain the form. Just like they do in a real class. There is no doubt you will build your strength on this one. To me that is important so I can progress.』

『I liked the flow of the routine of the dvd. Jennifer is a good instructor with clear direction. The woman is flexible like a rubberband!! She is very inspiring. The only problem with the production was the breaks in between the segments was way too long and you can't fast forward through it. Also I must have gotten a bad dvd because it keeps freezing for 10 seconds or longer at a time. It didn't do that at first but I used it for the third time the other night and I have a feeling the problem will get worse as it keeps getting used.』

『I really enjoyed this practice, it was a great flow. I liked Jennifer's voice and teaching manners. She seems to be down to earth. I was expecting though that the beginners flow was outdoors, but instead it was indoors in a studio. Jennifer shows the sequence with one more person. The beginners, I would say it's more like an beginners/intermediate level. It was perfect for me! This one has become one of my favorite yoga dvds!!

『I'm sure Jennifer Lynn is an accomplished practitioner and teacher, but for me her enthusiasm is so excessive that I can't even listen to her instruction. I tried to do this dvd several times and just couldn't stand her. So if there is anyone else out there who feels this way, you aren't alone. I bought this dvd because of all the glowing reviews and I finally threw it out because it actually put me in a terrible mood by section three. It is the first dvd I have tossed into the trash.』

『I've been using Baron Baptiste's videos for years and like them, but I wanted something new. Jennifer Lynn's routines have opened my eyes to improving my postures and getting more out of the workout. I nearly abandoned the DVD early on because it begins with a lecture about how to have a good life, healing, etc., which I found a huge turn-off. I wasn't interested in Ms. Lynn's views on such matters, only as they pertain to yoga. I can connect my own dots.

When it comes to explaining yoga and energy within that moment, she is clear, insightful, and purposeful. I felt like I'd been to the chiropractor after the beginner session, as if all my bones were in the right place. The intermediate routine was challenging and fun.』
