『Yoga Nidra is a form of meditative self-inquiry that, while relaxing the body, opens the mind to greater discernment and self-awareness, and the heart to love and acceptance of what is. It is a powerful tool for clearing away your limiting beliefs and emotions and for living from a more balanced (satvic) state of mind. Practiced regularly, it can be a pathway to awakening. When we find ourselves constricting in anger or grief, the practice of Yoga Nidra can immediately dissolve the constriction and progressively change our established mental patterns, so that when strong emotion does arise, we may begin to witness and welcome it, inquiring into its antecedents, without the need to react.』

(Nice quick practice for focusing on your midsection)
『This video is part of Baron's Live! series: each video was filmed during a large, live class. Core Power is a shorter, more concentrated version of Baron's more lengthy practices such as Soul of Strength. Given that it is a power yoga workout, the practice moves along at a brisk pace, although Baron also builds in time for restoration throughout.

The practice begins with several sun salutations to warm up; each downward dog is held for several breaths. Following this, Baron skips standing poses and moves directly to the floor to focus on poses which engage the entire core area, particlarly the abdominals. Baron alternates between postures to stretch and lengthen the abs--e.g., bow, camel, bridge--and those that are designed to build strength, including crunches. At times, Baron moves quickly from pose to pose, but he uses postures like boat to provide longer, isometric contractions. The practice ends with a brief svasana, but since the music continues as the credits role, you could easily hold this relaxation pose for a longer period.

I really enjoy Baron's teaching style, which I find to be very accessible for all levels (although absolute beginners to yoga will want to learn the poses elsewhere). At 23 minutes, this is an excellent short practice for days when you have less time and/or when you want to focus specially on core work.』

(ABsolutely ABmazing!)
『Please forgive the "pun" in the Title of this review, but I couldn't resist :).

This "Core Power Live" tape by Baron Baptiste certainly lives up to it's title. It will really challenge your abs in a thorough and balanced way. He also counters the ab work with back bends which stretches out and opens the front part of the body while releasing and strengthing the back body.

While the primary focus of this tape is Abs, Baron starts w/ Sun Salutations so you are fully warmed up throughout your entire body before focusing on the core. He also ends w/ Foward bends, a lying twist and savasana (relaxation pose). The music continues long after the credits which is a nice touch if you decide to spend some extra time in savasana.

I highly recommend this tape for those who want a full body Yoga practice that is short enough to fit into anyones schedule and intense enough to challenge you.

Just one note.... regarding the criticism by another reviewer about the production being a mess..... I don't know what this person was looking for but I think this tapes production is perfect and captures the essence of the practice. It really feels like Baron is in the room with you leading you through the practice.

In fact I really love the live class setting which I find inspiring (and Baron shines more than ever in this setting) and his verbal cues are very easy to follow. I also like that Baron brings attention to different modifications of the various poses, which are demonstrated by various students during the class. An extra added feature is the music of Krishna Das which sets a great atmosphere to practice with.

By the way, check out Baron's other live tapes as well as his book "Journey Into Power". I easily lost about 17 pounds (all I needed to lose) at a safe but steady since using his cleansing diet and have learned a ton from the information in that book.

Also, check out Baron's sister Sherri Baptiste Freeman's Video "Baptiste Power Of Yoga" (see my detailed interview on amazon for more info). It is a wonderful, deep and unique approach on an intermediate level and Sherri's a wonderful teacher.

Namaste』

(Waste of talent.)
『This tape is only 25 minutes long and cost 20 bucks. I think Baron is a talented teacher but should find someone else to direct and produce his videos. I,ve never seen a bigger production mess.』

(Meet your abs!)
『This is a great little intermediate yoga workout. It is 23 minutes long and really focuses on core strength. It contains ab focused power yoga work, some traditional ab work, and some backbends. It will really get your abs in shape like nothing else and has helped my lower back pain as well but I can only speak for myself. Baron is wonderful as usual and there is nothing but good to say.』

(BETTER THAN A HUNDRED SIT-UPS!)
『Between this tape and the"living arts Pilates"tapes my abs are flatter and stronger than ever! This tape clocks in at about 20 minutes and it never lets up! From the first sun salute to the spinal twist your work the abs or"core"an streeeetch out the back. I would say this is best for intermediate yogis. Some poses are tough. Just breathe. And, you will feel it the next day. This is great to supplement a program, say combined with cardio. Also, it's great to give to those people who say you can't get a"workout"through yoga.』
『The Baron Baptiste Live! Series inspires, encourages and challenges beginning and experienced students through Baron's powerful yoga process of sculpting your ideal body and freeing your true self. This special-edition DVD includes 3 diverse yoga practices designed for any age, weight, or fitness level. Core Power (30 minutes)Abs, Back&Bliss. You'll tone the muscles of your mind and you'll alternate abdominal sculpting with simple back strengthening and lengthening postures to create a more toned, balanced and strong center.

(Yoga Zone with flaws..)
『Unfortunately I have to agree with the other reviewers who already mentioned the flaws in this DVD. I'm a huge Yoga Zone fan but this one isn't much used in my rotation; unfortunately! The stretches and poses are great, if only they wouldn't be messed up the way they are!..』

(Yoga Zone DVD Total Body Conditioning)
『Yoga Zone DVD's are a great way to get started with yoga. Simple, direct&life altering for beter health of body&mind. I highly recommend them! Jill from NY *****』

(There are better Yoga Zones....)
『Total Body Conditioning is another Yoga Zone video that is split into 2-20 minute sessions. The first session is led by Lisa Bennett who is joined by Charles Matkin. They are sitting on a beach at the Grand Lido San Souci resort in Jamaica, the scenery is rather nice in this segment.

Session 1 starts in a simple seated twist with legs extended out in front of you, then you lift your arms up and twist to one side then the other holding each briefly. Then you will move into chin to knee pose, crossing one leg over the other then leaning forward, then repeating on other side. After this you will do table pose, scale pose, and bound angular which Lisa calls a serenity pose. Then you will stand and do a series of poses starting with triangle pose leaning over the front leg first, then the back leg. From here you will move into warrior 2 pose then right angle with arm extended up, then you will do reverse right angle while adding a twist, with the option to leave your knee on the ground. You will return to standing (mountain pose) and repeat this series on the other side. To finish out this segment you will go into childs pose, then lie on your back and moving into a spinal twist with knees to one side then the other, then it's the final relaxation pose.

Session 2 is led by Charles, with Lisa assisting this time. You begin with a Sun Salutation on your knees, raising your arms up and side then rising up onto your knees later adding a forward bend at the middle. Then you will do a kneeling spine stretch, then a seated hip opener with your heels together and hands behind you. Next you will move into downward facing dog, then lunge pose on the right pose, unfortunately the left side is completely missed so you will need to stop or rewind the program if you want to do lunge on the left. Then you will stretch out in seal pose before moving in side lunges, right then left. Then you will do a seated spine stretch with legs extended out and hands behind you. Following this you will see table pose, scale pose, another seated stretch with one knee in and the other leg extended out where you will reach you opposite arm to the extended leg. Then you will move into plank pose, done on the knees or the toes, then moving into downward facing dog and combining the two for a vinyasa. More planks follow this time while moving into chatarangas, then you will finish out this segment with a mini cobra, locust pose, childs pose, extended bound angular and final relaxation pose.

Overall I liked the first session better, session 2 is okay there is a rather big error with the lunge pose being completely missed on one side. Session 2 is also the identical program as session 1 on Yoga Zone's Gentle Yoga DVD. There are better Yoga Zone videos, such as Evening Stress Release and Strengthen&Tone. This one wasn't terrible, just okay for me.』

(Yoga Zone is Great)
『You just can't go wrong with Yoga Zone. I love the fact that this is split into two 20 minute workouts. Do the 1st one in the morning before work or do the whole thing after work. The guy featured in the workout was kinda dorky but other than that really liked this dvd. Challenging but doable.』

(total body awareness)
『Lisa Bennett and Charles Matkin work as a team in this 40 minute video. The location: Grand Lido San Souci, Jamaica. Lisa leads the first 20 minute program, and Charles follows her. They are at the beach. The rest of the videos take place at the duck pond.

The strengths of the first program lie in its emphasis on posture, breathing, alignment and focus. As she and Charles move between postures, she persistently reminds the viewers to become aware of the connections between the mind and the body, as she details the interrelatedness of posture, breath, circulation, strength and flexibility.

The first 10 minutes present a flowing series of stretches that target, more than anything, the spinal column. She guides her audience to heal sore or tense areas by directing their flow of breath to it. At first, that seems very odd, but she is actually teaching a very relevant, therapeutic, corner of Yoga. In this age of heavily marketed miracle drugs and sensational therapies, Lisa's gentle honesty is a welcome alternative.

For all the fitness buffs: This is not a cardio, but rather a dynamic stretching workout. The title of this program is a bit of a misnomer because it implies a more intense routine. It unfortunately neglects the program's true strength that lies in its pedagogical focus. I would have called it ''total body awareness'' rather than ''total body conditioning.''

The positions featured include, but are not limited to, the mountain pose, the warrior pose, the child's pose, the triangle pose, and the corpse pose. The positions featured in this program generally alternate between action and surrender, and help develop balance, concentration and flexibility. She offers suggestions on how to perform the postures correctly, letting the participants know where they should, and shouldn't feel muscular tension.

She concludes the program explaining that Yoga is about balance, as Charles demonstrates a reclined posture, called a bent-leg supine twist. She explains that this position helps stretch the torso and open up the lungs. She is right.

Charles leads the second segment, and Lisa follows. Throughout the program, he emphasizes an ethic that asserts self-discipline, without perfectionism. He restates it later, as ''willful determination but non-concern for results.''

He builds on Lisa's fundamentals, weaving controlled breathing, flexibility, and awareness into the routine. Parallel to the psychological dynamics, he broadens the physiological scope. His target areas are the loosening of the spine and the shoulders. Throughout the segment, he reminds his audience to keep the shoulders away from the ears.

His routine seeks to correct a common postural defect, as most of us carry our tension in our shoulders, which we habitually keep raised when they should be relaxed. This sequence of postures opens and closes, arches the shoulders, and rounds them. He broadens these dynamics, explicitly shifting between non-aggression/surrender, and action.

His is a good addition of the earlier program, and turns the total time into a 40 minute workout, if you are up to it. The beginner might choose one section or the other. However, if you do both sequences, they flow together seamlessly. He further develops many of the postures presented the first workout. The exercises, both mental and physical, are highly effective. They will help with balance, strength, (both emotional and physical) as well as coordination and flexibility.

『Set in the beautiful landscapes of Jamaica, Yoga Zone'sTotal Body Conditioningdelivers the intensive mind and body experience that has made Yoga Zone so popular. Divided into two distinct 20-minute workouts, the programs can be done individually for the time-pressed exerciser or together for an extended challenge. The first of these contains an informal approach to breathing and lengthening exercises. Isometric abdominal work is coupled with pelvic tilts and meditation. Some familiar postures are seen within this first session, with warrior, triangle, and mountain poses. The second session includes some deeper lunges and forward bends with the same focus on body alignment and posture.Total Body Conditioningillustrates a plausible beginning format because of its practical and approachable postures with a minimal risk of injury. In fact, programs like this can actually lengthen and strengthen the core muscles, which may aid in injury prevention. Meditation closes out both sessions and mats are necessary throughout all phases of this workout. The instruction and content here are so solid that beginners and intermediates alike will feel at home.--Olivia Voigts

『i've tried several teachers/styles of yoga, and i like nancy's best. she's really down to earth (which can be rare sometimes in the yoga world) and very descriptive in the correct postures for each pose. in her classes she would stress not locking your knees in the poses, but in the video, she didn't use this reminder which is the only thing i would recommend changing. (i ended up having knee aches, and then remembered what she had said previous in class). i really am grateful for her instruction. it has helped me reverse a lot of damage from car accidents in a gentle way.』

(Beautiful DVD)
『I love this DVD. Seane takes you through each pose with precision. You can do the entire DVD or pick certain chapters. It doesn't feel like a workout but the next day you do feel that your body had a workout. What I like about the DVD is Seane explains as your doing the poses that yoga isn't just physcial. It works on releasing your emotions that are deep in your tissues. Yoga releases the trapped emotions and helps you work with them. The DVD explains and demonstrates yoga is for the mind, body and spirit. Spirit is when you reconize (re-member) that we are all one in spirit. Sometimes you have to slow down on your practice and give precision of alignment a chance and the result will come much more than a rigid yoga exercise routine.』

(Great instructional class setting)
『As a fan of Seane Corn I may be a bit bias, however, I think this is a great workout with detailed instruction. It is in a class setting and challenging. I would suggest mastering her 2 other DVD's before doing this one.』

(perhaps in person.....)
『Vinyasa flow was never so disjointed as this overly talkative, poorly timed DVD portrays via Seane Corn. Her uneven approach largely tinged with an enormous ego, we find little sincerity in her dramatic vocals. If you are looking for something to enhance home practice, borrow this DVD from the library, a mere example of Vinyasa session, not a technique teaching tool. We found her voice grating, the camera follows Corne rather than narrowing in on positions and flow. How any of these followers managed to meditate with the endless ramblings of Corn is beyond our patience. Try Kundalini with Ana Brett for excellent music, active Yoga, breathing techniques, wondrous meditation......』

(Seane is great.)
『Seane is great, I have had her many times at conferences, so this was just like being there.』

(Good sequence and intention)
『I, like one of the above reviewers, had not experienced a Seane Corn video or class prior to purchasing this one. I was surprised at how different her style is than I'd expected. I found her instruction helpful and the meaning she gives to each movement, each breath, inspiring. However, because I am accustomed to practicing in a very meditative way, I found her style of delivery and tone of voice to be somewhat intense, and therefore, distracting. I suppose I am better suited to a Kripalu-style class and instructor. (I did not, however, have the same reaction to the Baron Baptiste or the Shiva Rae classes in this series. I found their voices and delivery very conducive to my meditative practice, even where poses and sequences got relatively vigorous.) I am sure that my reaction to Ms. Corn's delivery is peculiar to me, and that most people will find her and this video inspiring and helpful.』

(A MUST HAVE)
『The reason I ordered this DVD is because I saw Kathleen Kastner teaching Molly Sims yoga on a podcast. I noticed what a wonderful teacher she was. I could tell Kathleen loves people and yoga and I had to have her DVD! A wonderful intructional DVD for both beginners and intermediates. The program is made up of Kathleen teaching breathing exercises, instruction for 16 key poses, a 55-minute power yoga class, a section on diet and fitness. I love this DVD and love that Kathleen shared her love of yoga with us! Kathleen, could you do more yoga DVDs?!』

(Great for All Ages!)
『I use this with my seven-year-old. It's a great introduction into the world of Yoga. I highly reccomend it for kids, teens&adults!』

(Fantastic Yoga Content!)
『This video is upbeat, professional, and super fun. Kathleen is very informative about what is needed to start a practice as a teen. She is well-experienced and precise, which is just what teens need to get them into yoga. Enjoy every minute!』

(MUST BUY)
『I love this DVD, I've been able to take Kathleen's class and the DVD makes me feel like I'm in her class. If you've done yoga DVD;s before you probably know the usual sun salutations. It's like all DVD's are the same. NOT THIS ONE. It's a vinyasa flow with ashtanga yoga poses. It's easy enough for beginners but hard enough to keep you working up to an advanced level if you want to go there. Very well rounded...and FUN!』

(a great daily yoga dvd)
『I brought this DVD directly from Kathleen Kastner after taking her yoga class in Los Angeles, which was great by the way. I wanted a DVD that I could use at home when I couldn't make it to a yoga class. This is perfect, it's an hour long compared to the usual yoga class which 1 1/2hrs long and so frees up more time for other things. There is detailed instruction on all the poses in the DVD to get you started. Kathleen is very informative about how to do the poses properly and to your level. I am not a teen but an adult, but I would recommend this DVD to anyone who wants to start a yoga practice to build strength and flexibilty. I have noticed a great improvement in my own strength and flexibility after doing this class for only a few weeks. It does seem a little challenging at first but I think thats good, as thats the only way we get stronger. I have especially noticed that my abs and arms feel stronger from the postures which I really need. This DVD works the whole body and develops a great sense of self confidence and inner calm which is wonderful at any age, but especially for teens. I am sending this DVD to my nieces and nephews to use.』

(Great workout for beginners)
『This pilates video is great. It has three different levels of difficulty and two different lengths for each level so you can start slow and build up.
The moves seems easy but if done correctly they can really challenge you and create smooth muscles. I recommend this to pilates beginners and people with joint problems. It works!』

(Completely boring and slow paced...)
『This DVD is WAY to slow paced and will probably be useless to everyone but COMPLETE beginners or people completely out of shape. I am a 25 year old male, so I'm probably not the target demographic of home exercise DVDs, but I bought this DVD as a beginner to pilates (and I wasn't in very good shape at all) and it was even boring then.

There is WAY too much time between each exercise. In the full version of the video, she explains all three modifications which takes forever. The DVD has the option of watching the easiest or second easiest modifications alone (which is slightly faster, although she still takes way too long between each exercise), but you can only view the full, non-modified exercises along with the other two. This seems odd, because the more advanced you are at pilates, the more emphasis you should put on flow between exercises... so why isn't there a third option for viewing the non-modified exercises on their own?

The flow of the exercises is further hindered by the odd order of the exercises... Traditional pilates is done in a specific order (to encourage flow and work muscles groups in the most efficient way).

I recently did this video, because I've been doing pilates for a while now and I thought that I might enjoy the video more. With pilates, you are constantly learning how to better engage your powerhouse and make each exercise more focused and effective, so I assumed that maybe I would enjoy it more now that I could really get the most out of each exercise. Not the case...

Unless you are REALLY out of shape or just really want a workout that goes at a snail's pace, this video will probably bore you to tears. Ana Caban and Jillian Hessel both have beginner's pilate dvds that are much better. I would suggest looking into those instead.』

(my favorite)
『This video is great for all levels of pilates practioners- there are good modifications for beginners, great explanation of the poses and the pace is slow enough to really hold the poses properly. The workout is also the only one that is long enough to approximate the workout I would get in my pilates class. I have tred a few other videos, but this one is the best I have found so far.』

(Shameless advertizing)
『The workout is OK, but I hate being forced to watch advertizing every time I put the DVD on. It can't be turned off, the player has to play it through till the main manu opens. This seems to be a standard business practice with Gaiam, I also own their Yoga Conditioning DVD, and the ads there are even longer. This is not a free product, I paid money for it, what do I have to be forced to watch what I don't want?』

(Good learning tool)
『If you're looking to learn how to perform pilates moves properly this is a great video. It is also very relaxing with beautiful waterfall and ocean scenery in the background.
I did not, however, find this to be an intense workout (not that Pilates should be intense, but I would like to feel like I'm doing something). She generally only does 6 repetitions of a move, which I don't find to be enough to really work the various muscle groups. She also spends a lot of time going through instructions for the various levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced), unless you choose the workout designed specifically for beginner or intermediate (which means you can't vary between levels on the different moves).
I don't mind doing this workout to cool off from a long stressful day, but if I'm really looking to tone, or "loose weight" as this video proclaims, I go elsewhere.』

(Good yoga mat)
『I really appreciate this extra wide mat. It has just the right "stickiness" to help me hold my yoga poses. It is not very thick, so don't buy it if you're looking for cushion.』

(Pleased Novice)
『I really like this matt. It's cushy and wide. I may not know alot about yoga (since I am just learning) but I do know that it's more comfortable than anything else I've tried. Thanks』

(It is what what the manufactuer says it is.)
『In my opinion its still not thick enough. I use it to do sit up's on, so I just fold it in half. I guess it would be fine for yoga, but doing sit ups on a ab roller type machine without it folded in once still hurts my lower back.』
『This mat is a full 3 feet, or 36", wide! That's 50% wide than standard yoga mats, which are 24" wide. The mat is a thick, dense mat that not only provides adequate padding, but holds up extremely well over time. At 6.2mm, our extra wide yoga mat is a full 1/4" thick, and is one of the thickest mats on the market. When shopping around for a yoga mat, note that what many other companies call a 1/4" mat is actually 4.5 - 5.2 mm in thickness -- considerably thinner than this mat. The extra long mat is available in dark blue or black and measures 72" x 36" x 1/4".

(Feels good on my back!)
『Love coming home from work and being able to stretch out on it. Feels great and relaxing.』

(Not very good material its made of)
『I had this ball for quite a while, it seems smaller then the one of same size I already had before, but was old and I needed to replace it.. it smelled pretty bad, now it is better, but I don't think it is good quality material, very smelly and sticky, I don't use it too much because I don't like it. I am gonna replace it in future with some good brand name...』
