"Sufi Safir" is Bahrams second album released by Blue Flame Records. The Songs on this album were born in India and developed further in Holland and Denmark.

Working with Danish DJ Mashti, this album is a special combination between the ancient and traditional, connecting it with the modern and technical. If asked, Bahram says about the origin of his music: "It is simply spontaneous and comes from the heart, it develops out of the moment."

The second part of the album title "Safir" has the Persian meaning of "traveller". Thus the album, translated, carries the title "a Sufi, always travelling." which is leaning onto Bahrams own life as a Sufi. His journeys also gave inspirations for this album. Influences from ancient, traditional Sufi melodies as well as Kurdish and Indian sounds are found on the album. The multi-layers of Bahrams music reflects itself also in the texts about wisdoms and experiences, which go back to old Persian mystics and poets such as Saadi, Rumi, Attar or Hafez.

The album transports an unbelievable strength and energy. It is somewhat magical. Most tracks are led by a slow, very deep, driving and almost hypnotic bass line. These beats are important to Bahram. "Beats symbolize the rhythm of life, the rhythm of the body, the heart", he says. The deep tones are embedded into wonderfully percussive elements and are accompanied by the charming sounding Santoor (string instrument) and the Ney (flute). Through this, a second level is opened in the songs, which create an unbelievable listening experience.

Bahram would like to dedicate this work to his good friend Kiritji. It was he who brought Bahram to Ibiza in the year 2003 and introduced him to all musicians and friends. From this time on, much began to develop: The acquaintances with DJ's, live performances and finally the various influences on Bahrams music. His traditional way mixed itself with Ethno, Chill and Ambient. Through this circumstance, music as recorded on this album, is the result.』

『I have used this CD both at HeadStart and in Kindergarten classes in Boston Public Schools. It has been a great tool to engage the kids. The kids come from different backgrounds, but all enjoy the varying songs and moves. It is amazing to see 20+ kids settle into the routines and move from energetic lion roars to peaceful tree movements. The songs are catchy and easy to remember. Try out the CD, you won't be disappointed!』

『This CD has been one of my best purchases both professionally and personally; in fact I recently purchased a second for those occasional times I misplace the first. I am an occupational therapist practicing in both pediatric and adult-rehab. settings as well as a mother of two theatrical little girls ages 4 and 2.
The CD itself is fun to look at and the downloadable lyrics and pictured poses are a wonderful tool. I printed, laminated, and placed them in a binder which makes it such an easy reference guide. This also allows the students and my children to look through the pages to choose particular songs as well as become more familiar with the postures. Depending on the setting or the individual need of the child at the time of our session, I can choose songs that either awaken or calm as well as choose a song that will promote a specific muscle/joint movement that we are trying to achieve. I have found that each song is individual in composition yet each provides the opportunity for the child to achieve and maintain a posture. The Reflection and Namaste songs are beautiful; those two songs and the remaining instrumental songs are great for breathing/chanting exercises, preparing the body for yoga, and for cool down/relaxation.
I have worked with children that cannot follow 2-step directions yet can complete multiple yoga sequences to this beautiful music....AMAZING!! Non-verbal children who are now making sounds, chanting, or even expressing phrases.....INSPIRING! I can go on and on...
Personally, I love using this at home just for fun, to get my girls to cool down, or even to just get them started for the day. My oldest loves #8 The butterfly, and my youngest loves #7 Jungle Adventure. Some evenings my husband will walk through the door and my two year old is running up to him yelling "Yogi Daddy" and he too joins in. I have found that even doing one song in the morning with my 4 year old will help organize her to get ready on school days. As for me, I am more flexible and coordinated than ever. I am now able to do tricks I haven't done since high school such as cartwheels, backbends.... Also, I had varying degrees of back pain almost daily since my 2nd child and basically have been pain free for months. Best Part, without any other change in my exercise routine other than incorporating the yoga into my practice and home life, I am back to my pre-baby weight!! Thank you for this C.D.!!!!!』

I find that I have to keep referring to the pictures of the routines rather than just following the musical instuctions. 『I am a children's yoga instructor and am always on the lookout for great music to use in my classes. I was very excited about this cd. I popped it into my car cd player and was almost put to sleep after the first song. They are very slow, the music is a little weird...as though they are trying way to hard to "jazz" it up. Kids have LOTS of energy and want to move. These songs are too slow. HOWEVER, I have been able to use a few of the songs at the end of my classes during their rest time and before class as the kids are entering the room.』

(Great ADVANCED yoga dvd yet again from Wai Lana)
『I had trouble finding this&barely knew she had this advanced "fun challenge series" dvd.
There are more reviews on her vhs version&this DVD suggest you master her 3 dvd beginner "easy"&3 dvd intermediate "hello fitness" series first.
From other reviews on her other DVDs, you know she has a soothing voice with an accent that I didn't have trouble understanding, the views are gorgeous&she always tells you great info about body placement, even chinese medicine/martial arts/qi gong terms. She also tells you what organs or parts or systems of the body each pose works on as you do it to keep you going. Her soft speaking never intrudes your concentration. The music is light new age, mostly dominated by piano or string instruments.
The poses done are: wide arrow (balance on butt, legs spread), seated spinal twist (beginner level), supine side leg stretch (beginner), Dynamic Combo Rolls (plow, roll up to boat, then down to seated straight leg fwd bend in one fluid motion *easier then sounds&invigorating*), camel (beginner), child's pose (beginner), toes/palm side stretch (holding weight on 1 hand&1 foot with other arm reaching ceiling *need some arm strength*), patient crow (modified crow *modified handstand*), full split (1 leg fwd, 1 back, not Russian *just do your best, good stretch, use hands to hold weight up*), scorpion (handstand using wall), chin lock plow, shoulderstand (beginner), karnapidasana (shoulderstand w/knees into shoulder (adv.), double angle pose (standing fwd bend with arms held out (beginner), wheel (int.), 1 leg in air wheel (adv.), cross leg relaxation (beginner *resting pose*), bulldog stretch (standing legs wide&arms on ground stretching in front of legs&behind, beginner), half lotus stand (stand w/1 foot on inner groin same hand reaches around to grab toes&other hand reaches into sky *easy, just need balance*)&ends in her usual cute dance chant.
Reviewer's only complaint is too much makeup&colorful outfits. Some had trouble with her accent, but I who usually do, did not.

『This video was really well rounded. There were a variety of postures and each posture was followed with a counter pose. This is not a flow video so anyone who is looking for a vinyasa based practice this might not be for you. The video ends with chanting and a relaxed dance that is really quite fun.』

『A while ago my sister gave me some of the Wai Lana Yoga tapes from the Easy Series and I fell in love. I've worked my way up to this Burn Off tape which is more advanced, but challenges me in ways that I like. My body is relaxed and and stronger now and my friends tell me that I look good. I really think it's because of these tapes. I especially like the Burn Off tape because it pushes me in ways I would have never pushed myself, and Wai Lana's voice is soothing and relaxing which makes the total experience a pleasure. I give this video a very good recommendation.』

『I've tried many different workouts for years, but none of them have had such rapid results like pilates! I have even tried Callanetics, (which has many moves from pilates) that was supposed to have fast results, but between that&Pilates, there is no comparison (unless I was doing the poses wrong..).

I used the Pilates Method, Precision Pilates dvd before this one,&I love them both! It's a faster pace&I believe a little less reps than Precision Pilates, but still effective. I only dock this one star, bc I wish there were a few more workouts for the abs section.

I enjoy working out with Jennifer Kries in her dvds. She shows her personality, but is calm&relaxing in the workouts (Unlike some videos, where the instructor is bouncing off the walls with a high screechy voice..). She takes the time to explain the poses&you can hear her breathing, which helps you learn how to breath properly for each workout.

All-in-all, great dvd!』

『I had this workout on VHS maybe 5 or 6 years ago. I recently wanted to get back into Pilates, etc and went through 2 others before I realized I needed to find this one on DVD.

Jennifer does a great job leading the workout. She encourages beginners to continue with the excercises to work up to their abilities. And for the more experienced, the workout contains challenging pieces. It is a fun workout to do and I feel great afterwards.

Another bonus to this workout is that it is divided into 4 parts focusing on different areas. You can do the full 1 hour workout or break it into 2 30 minute workouts.』

『A lot of her stuff is repetative. 2nd, She takes at least 2 -3 minutes of the beginning of all 15 min with breathing and explanation. 3rd, the HIPS and THIGHS works outs are almost exaclty the same.And also the excercises in these 2 are almost ALL Ballet.A lot of ballet.
This video is from 2001 too. I'd try something more up to date.
I didnt feel the abs work out did much, i felt like i was doing an 80's jazzercise class. The only good thing is the ARMS routine.』

『I bought this DVD after my VHS wore out. It is a mixture of pilates, yoga and ballet. 15 minute sections that target different areas. Perfect. She is an amazing instructor! Going at just the right pace, she uses techniques that are challenging enough to actually do something for you and easy enough that everyone can participate. I have hip and back problems, and my mother has had multiple back surgeries and these excersizes are gentle enough for us both yet effective enough that after three weeks I had compliments from coworkers who inquired if I had been working out! I have never had a excersize program (or even gym memberships!) that did that. This has an EXCELLENT program for slimming hips and thighs that WORKS!! The ONLY excersizes I have ever done that has actually slimmed my hips, and I am a fairly athletic person (swimming, softball, volleyball, basketball, etc). I highly recommend this to everyone! The music is actually kinda nice too, not annoying at all- a plus for a excersize video anyway!』

(Three well-designed 20-minute yoga practices)
『Yoga Journal's Yoga for Well-Being offers three short (20 minutes each) yoga sequences, each with a different area of focus. The practices are led by yoga instructor and Yoga Journal contributing editor Jason Crandell, who provides instruction via voiceover while model Kathryn Budig demonstrates the postures. Each sequence begins with a very brief introduction by Crandell and then flows right into the practice, which features Budig alone in a studio with gentle, non-obtrusive music playing in the background. Although Crandell cues all of the poses in English, both the English and the Sanskrit names appear on screen briefly at the start of each new posture.

The Main Menu of the DVD allows you to select each practice individually or to choose a "Play All" option. I have described each sequence in greater detail below:

Mental Clarity.
Crandell states that the emphasis for this practice is on standing forward bends, balancing postures, and twists. Certainly the practice includes plenty of poses in the first two categories, although few in the last two. The session begins in down dog, moving into standing forward bend and then the first balance posture, tree pose. Next comes a standing series which includes triangle, side angle, and wide-legged standing forward bend; standing forward bend is practiced between each of these postures. This series is followed by the only other balance pose, eagle. The practice then moves to the floor for down dog, child's pose, and the only twisting posture, sage 3 pose. After bridge pose and knees to chest, the practice ends in a very brief (<1 minute savasana)--the only practice on this DVD to end in relaxation pose.

Greater Energy.
The focus for this sequence is supposed to be on standing poses and shoulder openers to revive energy. Crandell begins with sun salutations: first half salutes, then lunge salutes, then sun salutation series A. The initial series of standing postures includes warrior 2, side angle, and triangle pose, first performed all on one side, then repeated on the other side. A second standing series alternates warrior 1 with pyramid pose. There is then one final sun salutation to transition to the floor, where the practice ends in a seated position. Although this was a nice sequence overall, I wasn't sure where the shoulder openers were supposed to be--that is, unless Crandell was considering the arm movements in the standing postures to be shoulder-opening work.

Restful Sleep.
In his introduction, Crandell states that this practice features hip openers, forward bends, and gentle twists (the DVD case also notes the inclusion of restorative postures, but as you will see from my description below, there are no restorative posses included in this sequence). The practice opens with a series of a seated shoulder openers which includes eagle arms. A series of hip-opening forward-bending postures follows, with cross-legged forward bend (also performed to each side), cobbler's pose, and wide-legged seated forward bend. Next comes a lunge series which includes low lunge, lizard pose, and pigeon. There are also a couple of standing forward bends (traditional and wide-legged), and then another series of seated forward bends featuring forward bending in cobbler's pose and in a wide-legged twisting position. This practice ends in child's pose with the suggestion to continue in savasana if desired.

Overall, these are three well-done, well-designed practices, although I didn't quite feel that the sequences matched their stated goals (e.g., I would've liked to see restorative postures in the sleep practice). Crandell does a nice job with the voiceover instruction, providing good cueing and alignment pointers and generally allowing enough time for transitions between the postures (although the start of the sleep practice felt a bit rushed to me). As stated on the DVD case, these practices would be appropriate for beginning and intermediate students; I would actually recommend these sequences to all but those brand-new to yoga, as Crandell assumes a basic prior familiarity with the postures. The DVD offers a short (3-minute) bonus interview in which Crandell describes his own history with back injury, anxiety, and insomnia. He makes the case that while 60-90 minutes of yoga per day is ideal, not everyone has time for this, and so he emphasizes that even 10-20 minutes of yoga per day can provide excellent benefits. This is a valid point, and so for those who are looking to fit shorter sessions of yoga into their day, this DVD might be a great place to start.』

『I've had this DVD workout now for a few years, and I have to say I really love it! I know some find Denise's chirpy style annoying, but I don't think she's like that at all in this DVD.. and I must say I've never heard her say 'Yea yoga' - and I've done this DVD hundreds of times! perhaps its in the intro??

I find this a fantastic all over workout that is surprisingly effective in toning up given I'm generally a cardio workout lover.. I always feel so incredibly energised by this workout. I actually feel healthier and more alive at the end of it! seriously!

This is NOT however a spiritual type yoga DVD - it's a little faster paced than that and doesn't have that kind of yoga music that those type of DVDs do.. but I don't mind that, I see this as somewhere between a workout and yoga - and I really like that..

It's also fab for doing during that time of the month, rather than a full on cardio workout - as it's nurturing as well as energising and strenuous.

The only caution I would give is about the move which involves putting one foot up above the other knee and then sitting back. I pulled my back on this move and I'd never had a back problem before, so I'd warn people to be very very careful on that move - and also the big toe stretch which also seems to pull on that same lower back muscle that I pulled. Maybe that's specific to me - but just be careful. I just do the chair pose while she's doing these ones. It's only a minute or so, so it doesn't affect the overall workout at all.

You will need a yoga/pilates ball though for the third section, and ideally also a yoga mat. Though I did it on the carpet for quite a while before I got a mat and it was fine..

I feel this workout has really stood the test of time for me. I keep coming back to it, and really enjoy the workout.

『I got this disc on sale, and it was my first of Denise Austin. I like Denise's style, and had never done yoga before using this disc. I like the workouts, I feel like I taking it kind of easy, but still getting a good work out if i do the first segment alone. On a really good day I go through all the segments, however there are a couple moves in the strength section that I will never be able to do and there are some movements in the ball section that i dont have room for in my living room. I had no problems catching on to the workout; since i got the disc i've taken several yoga classes at my gym and still use this workout at home.』

『I've practised on the Black&Purple Lite mats and this mat is right up there with the rest of them. The Black mat's too heavy for me as I travel frequently, and I find even the Purple Lite too heavy for shorter trips like hauling to&from the yoga studio. This Eko Lite's great for transporting/ travelling but still retains its heavy feel.

After a week of practice I can safely say it doesn't buckle like the other thin 3mm mats do. It sometimes looks as if the mat is uneven and doesn't sit flat on the floor smoothly, but when you're practicing you don't even feel it - it feels like a flat and solid mat. I practice in a heated room and after warming up, you do need a towel or yogitoes coz it gets slippery when wet (like most other rubber/ PVC mats too). But it grips well when doing a regular not-too-sweaty practice.

『I was so glad to get this new mat--it's light and easy to transport (because it's thin you can roll OR fold it into a suitcase). The smell is strong but goes away-- you can lay it outside for an hour or 2 to reduce it significantly. Best not to leave it rolled up at first, but let it breathe and the smell goes away. I got the sand color and it's a nice gold... It does wrinkle a little bit in practice, but it's worth it for the lightness and the low enviro-impact.』

『I have the Manduka thick black mat. It is the greatest but it is hard to transport and it's not eco-friendly. All of the other thin mats I've used buckle. I've used a lot of mats and have done yoga for a long time. This is an amazing transportable mat and it's eco-friendly. After 3 days leaving it unrolled, the smell on my blue mat is FINE. The quality and sustainability of this product should make it a no-brainer. I love it. If I didn't already own a non-eko black mat (that will survive me- and my kids), I would get the 5 mm eKO mat.

『I really liked the mat when it arrived - but on opening I saw a 2 inch long deep gash on the smooth side of it - the rubber had not filled properly on that spot. I'm inclined to think it was a quality issue on that particular mat. There are some spots where the rubber seems to have not filled smoothly which I think is how you can make things with natural rubber? - Really dont know. But the deep one made me return the mat, since I thought it might tear at that point given it is only 3mm thick. But I really liked the mat's look and feel. I'm going to buy the 5mm version since it might not be affected by the irregular filling scenario.』
